Rules of transliteration
Transliteration is the technique that changes Arabicwriting into a Latin substitute. Since there aremany letters in Arabic which have no Latinequivalent, either the combination of two letters, orspecial qualities are added to normal Latin letters.To the newcomer to Arabic, the transliterations can
appear confusing, but it is an excellent system ofboth recapturing Arabic writing, as well as helpingwith your pronunciation.Moreover, you should note that the pronunciation of normal letters is not necessarily identical to howyou utter things in your own language. Therefore,please read the following list carefully, you will notregret.

Grammar: The definite article
Dne of the things many should have noticed beforeembar$ing on learning the Arabic language, is thefrequent use of prefixes li$e 'Al' or '"l'. 'Al' and'"l' are the same two letters 'a' and 'l' puttogether, which indicate the definite article for anoun. %ut what is considered definite and what is
not, is often different from many esternlanguages. %riefly one could ma$e this as a rule4 fit is not particularly important to stress theindefinite form, the definite article should be used.%ut this is only a valid rule at your present stage inlearning Arabic.hen a noun is indefinite, no prefixes or suffixesare added, you simply use the core form of the
noun.Just to complicate things a bit here4 n Arabic thereare a group of 'sun letters', letters which standingfirst in a noun, eat the 'l' of the definite article.These are the following letters4
