Mission Statement
We, the former student body of Princess Anne County
Training School/Union Kempsville Highi Schiool, come
togetfier to pay tribute to thie parents who had the vision
to give their children u/hat segregation had denied them:
an education. They raised money to fulfill their dreams
and through their dedication and commitment they
purchased the land for whence "a school of their own"
was built. Later, the school evolved into a larger school,
Union Kempsville High School.
We also come together one last time in remembrance of
our school, and to take "The Last Walk" down the halls
of our alma mater to revisit the time spent in a building
that had little but gave much! Though the building will
no longer be a visible reminder, it is our mission to keep
these grounds hallowed forever!!
"Too much is given; much is required."

"t £\ "1 "t By 1911, Princess Anne County already had
JL ^ A. A. three high schools that sen'ed the white
population. As late as 1933, the County had
no educational facility for the Colored children beyond the sev-
enth grade.
"1Q ^C Princess Anne County Training has a place in
M. ^jUkJ the local history of Virginia Beach. It is the
first and only school to provide higher educa-
tion for African Americans in Princess Anne County and Vir-
ginia Beach. The school was also a community center, reaching
out into neighborhoods inspiring indi\'iduals toward self
improvement through education for adults and children.
The history of Princess Anne Count}' Training School
dates back to the evening of October 26, 1925 at Mt. OUve Bap-
tist Church in Seatack. Colored parents, teachers, and ministers
came together in a mass meeting to discuss a daring proposal-
to build a Training School in Princess Anne County for Colored
children. It was voted and the Princess Anne County Training
School Association was be formed to rise the funds to accom-
plish their dream. The Association raised money by holding
contests, bake sales, excursions and other communit}' activi-
ties. Monthly meeting were held and reports of money was re-
ceived from churches, school leagues, and lodges sponsored
money-making bazaars.

MESSAGE FROM A TEACHER:
Shakespeare said in his play, "As You Like It",
All the worlds a stage.
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances:
And one man in his time ploys many parts.
We have played many parts in life: students, teachers, doctors, lawyers,
entrepreneurs, writers, business people, and many other activities. Today we are
ending the love of our connection to Princess P\nne County Training School/
Union Kempsville High School, and the beginning of our connection and love for the
replica to remind us of yesterday.
May I extend greetings to all of you: teachers, students, and guests of
PACTS/U.K. High School. I want you to know that the road to where we are today
did not come easy until the school board realized that something needed to be done
to commemorate the early existence of the only black high school in Princess Anne
County. Though it was small, we enjoyed and learned there. As we recognize the
success of our former graduates, we are proud and overjoyed at their successes.
The former teachers of PACTS/U.K. High School can pat themselves on the back,
celebrating the beautiful job we did for our former students.
Enjoy your day and be proud of our heritage!
Love you all.

A Note of Thanks.
The "The Last Walk" Planning Committee would like to take the opportunity to salute our teacher, our
informant, our commandeering chief and Godfather, Mr. William J. Watson, for his command. It was his
idea to have this event so that the former students would meet as one student body one last time in our
school. Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School.
We wish to recognize all former faculty members in attendance. This bittersweet and historic event
would not have been complete without your attendance and for this we are grateful. We love you. we
appreciate you, and most of all, we thank you for instilling in us a sound educational foundation and a
heritage of which we are proud. We celebrate you!
To "The Last Walk" Committee, we would like to thank you for all the efforts you put into making this
occasion a momentous and successful event. You gave many hours of planning and reaching out to
ensure that this would be an event to remember. The outpouring of passion for the school was always
evident during the planning. No task was too large or too small and we cannot thank you enough for all
of your dedication and willingness to make this occasion one to remember. We applaud you and your
support groups. Go Tigers. ...go!!
In addition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the former students who came from far
and near to share in this occasion. Without your presence, this event would not have been a success.
This day is dedicated to you! Mr. Watson wanted to make sure that you were the stars in the "final
curtain call." We will always remember from whence we came! Although the building will be gone,
PACTS/UK will never be forgotten!
Finally, a "very special thank you" to Yolanda Jones- Howell, for her passion and dedication in seeing
this project through, ..and last but certainly not least, to Mrs. Ruby Allen for her directorship of the
alumni choir.
To all. "thank you" and keep the Tiger Spirit

From the Program Committee
The day which we have planned and looked forward to is finally here: "The Last Walk"
of the Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School
(PACTS/UKHS).
It is indeed an honor to be a former student and committee member of "The Last
Walk," a historic event. As the Program Committee Chairman, it has been a
rewarding experience.
Through the committee's researching of school alumni, the excitement of getting
reacquainted with classmates, preparing a program, recognizing achievements and
accomplishments, we found PACTS/UKHS former students in every field of expertise
imaginable. They include doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors, judges, ministers,
military, entrepreneurs, state/federal/city employees, and professional athletes, to name
just a few. A feeling of pride and excitement was renewed each time we met, and as
we talked with old schoolmates and remembered the great yesterdays, it was indeed a
pleasurable experience.
We would like to say thank you to the exceptional staff of administrators, teachers,
counselors and support staff who provided us with a safe and comfortable
environment in which to learn and prosper.
Thank you to those parents who had the vision to purchase land to build a school
to educate their children. Their vision is a reality today in you!

Class of 1964The Class of 1 964 is honored and privileged to have been a part of
UNION KEMPSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL history. We are greatly
appreciative to our principals, teachers, and advisors for their many years of
love, patience, and sacrifice. The students' best interest was always a priority.
Although the physical building will be gone, our memories cannot be destroyed or forgotten.

Thanks to the many people

The time has come...
let it be known, that on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the occasion of, "The Last Walk," the Union
Kempsville Class of 1966, give honor to those faculty members who made sure that we were given the
opportunity to enter into our next level as productive citizens armored with sound basic knowledge
and skills to convey to ourfuture endeavors.
It is with the utmost respect, as we turn hack the pages of time, we recognize our class sponsors for
without their untiring dedication, commitment, sharing, standards, and love, we would have been a
lost generation. Their efforts were timeless, their motives pure and simple but their consciousnessfar
exceeded our expectations. They had the insight on where we should go and took us as far as they
could before releasing us to let us spread our wings. We, the class of '66 are eternally gratefulfor all
that you gave and uHll forever be indebted to you. WE LOVEAND HONOR YOU... MANY THANKSTO OUR SPONSORS:
Louise H. Carter (deceased)
Hattie L Goodman (deceased)
Emily E. Morgan (deceased)
Bemadine A. Rasberry (deceased)
William]. Watson
Inez C. Wilson
On this same day, we must also take the time to give honor to our Fallen Classmates, who havefought
the good fight of life and gone on to a higher ground. We willforever hold them dear to our hearts and
their names will always be synonymous with the Class of '66. The camaraderie that was established
during those years spent at UK are precious and can never be replaced, theirfriendships ivill linger on.
At our reunions, there are pictures of them, their names are apart of the conversations about our
"school days," and we always take out time to commemorate their absence. CLASSMATES, WE MISS
YOU DEARLY...MAY YOU REST IN PEACE!

KEEPING MEMORIES ALIVE
lo loving memory of my husband and soul mate, Harris O. Jennings.
Seven years have passed and I still feel your
presence in my conversation and prayers. Youwere always fiill of life and kept things lively in
your own way. When all of the former students
march around Princess Anne County Training
School for the last time; I'm sure you will be
singing in your baritone voice watching from
above. I haven't forgotten that you served as
President of the senior class when we graduated
in 1948. Still missing you daily as 1 try to keep

As we remember our parents, we know that because they loved us, wefound new joys that were not ours before; new stars brightened our sky
with glories growing more and more. We know, because they loved us,
we could rise to the heights of fame and realms of power; because they
loved us, we learned the highest use of every hour; and yes, because they
loved us, our lives are still circled with unquestioned rest for a greater
education tomorrow. We learned the lessons you taught us. You madeour days beautiful.

Gift of Friendship
In memory of:
Anna Lee Wiggins Briley
The gift of friendship was truly afforded to us when
you came into our lives. Never would two little girls,
who along with you became the "threesome", would
have experienced the value of such precious components
of sharing, caring, trusting, goodwill spirit,
dedication, poise, concern, and commitment without
you as our very best friend.
On the day that you left us, our hearts were truly
saddened, for our beloved link had been physically
broken. It's been a year now. we still are hurting, we
feel our loss every day in everything we do. and there
are always constant reminders of you in our daily lives.
Even though we miss you, our sister, our buddy, our
beloved friend, we know there was a higher power
calling your name and you had to go! We will forever
hold you dear to our hearts, and the memory of you
will never fade. We love you still and we always will.

CLASS OF 1956
I am blessed and honored to be a
part of the PACT/UK class of 1956. MySrandfather, Deacon James Davis (a

May God richly bless the teachers,
principals, and classmates of the Princess

t5n is with a heart filled with gratitude and awesome respect that I submit these few words. I
don't believe I could ever adequately convey what my high school years meant to me. There
are so many warm and wonderfiol mcmoncs. . . the making of life long friendships and the
bonding of teacher/student relationships; some of which remain today.
iLTOrty-four years ago when I graduated from this school, I was prepared and equipped by
some of the most dedicated and concerned academicians in the world. It was an era whenteachers took a personal interest in you and encouraged vou to succeed. I pause now to
once again say "Thank You" to those who are yet with us; and honor the memory of those
who have transitioned to a well deserved rest from their labor.
vr was the author of our class song, and those lyrics mean as much to me today as they did
then. In spite of the fact the "sacred halls of UK" will no longer exist in realit)-, they will
always have a special place in my memor)-. My church family join me in saying "ITiank's for
the Memories."
