The EcoStar environmental achievement and
branding program provides educational forums
and support services that help organizations make
better use of resources in ways that can benefit
their bottom line. Our activities enable waste and
toxic use reduction, water and energy efficiency,
recycling, and the use of environmentally
preferable products, and other performance
improvements.
As an EcoStar member, you receive the
following benefits:
This Action Guide filled with information on
how to improve the environmental and
economic performance of your company or
organization.
Free enrollment in monthly workshops and
quarterly Roundtable sessions.
Dedicated technical assistance to help your
establishment make progress with an
environmental initiative.
Business to business networking and
partnering opportunities that reduce
operational costs and waste.
Public recognition for accomplishments.
Cost-savings from improved efficiencies
within your firm (energy and waste
management cost savings).
EcoStar is a voluntary program that is designed to
be non-prescriptive. As an EcoStar member you
are encouraged to identify and work toward
achieving the goals that are most relevant to your
organization. The Action Guide is designed to
help participants achieve the EcoStar Standards.
Members that make significant improvements in
their operational practices can earn the designation
of EcoStar Achiever. Achievers receive the right
to include the specially designed logo on their
marketing materials, which can enhance brand
distinction in the marketplace.
The following steps outline the process to earn the
designation of EcoStar Achiever:
1. Review the EcoStar Statement of Purpose.
The Statement of Purpose describes the
mission and values of the EcoStar program.
2. Review the checklist of Standards 1-25. To
become an EcoStar Achiever you must
complete 15 Standards. Standards 1-10 are
required and therefore it is a good idea to read
through these Standards carefully, paying
3. Choose five additional Standards. Select the
Standards among #11-25 that are most
relevant to your organization. Once you have
completed Standards 1-3, you will be in a
good position to determine which additional
Standards you will address. This workbook
and the information provided in EcoStar
workshops should provide you with all the
tools you need to achieve the Standards.
4. Work to achieve the required Standards 1-
10 and five additional Standards. Review
your strategy and goals with the EcoStar
program manager so that s/he will be able to
provide guidance and assistance throughout
the process.
5. Prepare your EcoStar Achievement report
(see instructions on Page 7) and submit it to
the EcoStar Program Director. Every effort
will be made to protect confidential business
information provided in the report.
