On August 21, 2019, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung visited the site of the Desertification Prevention Project in Haginor, Zhenglan Qi, Nei Mongol, China. He participated in the Hyundai Green Zone Project, which has been operating since 2008, with a volunteer group of local Chinese employees. Since 2014, Hyundai Motor Group has been working in Haginor, Zhenglan Qi, Nei Mongol, a leading source of harmful yellow dust, to restore the desolate salt desert to grasslands through shrub transplantation. Chairman Euisun Chung planted dry branches in the lake bed to secure the soil, examined seeds and sand mixed with soil being sown, and inspected an area of completed grassland. As of last year, around 2,650 volunteers have participated in the Hyundai Green Zone Project, which is Hyundai Motor Group’s representative local social contribution activity in China. Hyundai Motor Group also ranked first for three consecutive years in the Chinese automobile industry on the “Corporate Social Responsibility Development Index” as evaluated by the China Academy of Social Sciences.
Hyundai Motor Group attracted attention for the presentation of the H-Jump School at the BCCCC (Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship) international conference held in Dallas, Texas in May 2019. The H-Jump School, which was introduced at the session titled “Corporate Citizenship Activities from a Global Perspective,” is a talent fostering program operated by Hyundai Motor Group in cooperation with the private, public, and academic sectors. Through interaction between teenagers, university students, and mentors (Hyundai Motor Group employees) the program focuses on reducing social and economic inequality and providing equal education opportunities for all. Choi Jae-Ho, General Manager of Hyundai Motor Group, presented at the conference and stressed, “The employment rate of university students who participated in H-Jump School was 77.1%, which is 10 percentage points higher than other college students. Teenagers who participated in the program have become learning-oriented and have significantly improved their concentration, positivity (78.4%), and self-efficacy (74.7%).”

CSR Issues On June 26, 2019, Hyundai Motor Group announced the success of the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition at the UN Social Solidarity Economy (UN SSE) TF conference in Geneva, Switzerland. As a place to share the value and potential of the social economy, the UN SSE plays an important role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Hyundai Motor Group attended a special session and shared the social and economic outcomes of the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition, emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation between business, government, and civil society. Managing Director Lee Byung Hoon made a presentation and stated, “As a platform for discovering social innovators, the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition has contributed to revitalizing social enterprises for the past 9 years.”
Emphasizing the Importance of Multilateral Cooperation and Social Enterprise Revitalization at UN SSE
Hyundai Motor Group attended the SDGs Forum, held at the Seoul Grand Hyatt Hotel on September 18, 2019, to suggest “Collective Impact” as an effective solution for social issues. Lee Byung Hoon, Director of Hyundai Motor Group, stressed, “In order to overcome complex social issues, government, business, civic groups, academia, and agents with diverse abilities must find common goals, and “Collective Impact” is essential to achieving those goals.” Based on the mid- to long-term vision of a “Trustworthy Partner for Today and Tomorrow,” Hyundai Motor Group has been at the forefront of getting results with Collective Impact. Since 2012, Hyundai Motor Group has supported young entrepreneurs and created decent jobs through the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition. Also, since 2015, Hyundai Motor Group has directed the Youth Balsan Village project, an urban regeneration project which has helped revitalize the local economy of Gwangju, South Korea.
In 2019, Hyundai Motor Group realized its mid- to long-term vision of becoming a
“Trustworthy Partner for Today and Tomorrow” through 6 MOVEs and various social
contribution activities based on the UN SDGs. In particular, we attended various CSR
forums around the world to emphasize the importance of multilateral cooperation
between business, government, and civil society and received positive feedback by
introducing examples of Hyundai Motor Group’s “Collective Impact.”

The H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition, which began in 2012, is the representative young entrepreneur and job creation program in South Korea. The H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition selects 20 social enterprises each year and provides them with a start-up fund of 100 million won and business training, as well as consulting and expert mentoring. As of 2019, a total of 233 start-up teams have been selected and 1,917 jobs have been successfully created. Because the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition is where business, government, and society come together to strive to support young entrepreneurs and create quality jobs, it is known as a representation of “Collective Impact.” Business, government, and society have established cooperative relationships with the common goal of solving social issues, reflecting the spirit of “Collective Impact.” This is why the H-OnDream Social Enterprise Startup Audition was awarded a Presidential Award in 2016. In the future, Hyundai Motor Group will continue to discover social enterprises with great potential for growth to help them grow and develop and actively help them realize their ideas for social innovation.

Highlight 01Hyundai Dream CenterFostering Talented Automobile Maintenance Personnel for the Future
Hyundai Motor Group constructed and operates a vocational-technical school called the Hyundai Dream Center in cooperation with Plan Korea. The school teaches Hyundai Motor Group’s advanced automotive maintenance technology to low-income young adults in developing countries so that they can acquire their own skills. In 2013, after the establishment of the first Hyundai Dream Center in Ghana, Hyundai Motor Group established Hyundai Dream Centers in Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In 2018, Hyundai Motor Group established a vocational-technical school in the Philippines. Among the 131 graduates, 99 were employed by a local Hyundai dealership. In April 2019, the 6th Hyundai Dream Center was established in Peru. 63 low-income young adults (43 men, 20 women), who struggled to find quality local jobs, were selected and offered multidisciplinary education for six semesters over the course of three years. Hyundai Motor Group will continue to support the growth and independence of young adults in developing countries through Hyundai Dream Centers.

This project for underprivileged teenagers and university students trains participants to become social integration leaders. University students interested in education are selected and provided support for one year to act as teachers for underprivileged teenagers. H-Jump School provides an opportunity for university students and teenagers to grow. University students can learn the meaning of giving back while gaining the opportunity to develop liberal arts knowledge and participate in mentoring programs provided by Hyundai Motor Group employees and society members. Meanwhile, teenagers can receive education support without the burden of private education costs. As of 2019, a total of 862 university students have educated 3,116 teenagers. Another great achievement of the program has been a reduction in social costs of KRW 196 billion over seven years (KRW 14.6 billion in private education expenses for teenage students, KRW 2.5 billion to employ lecturers in local child care centers and schools, and KRW 2.5 billion for college student mentoring).

Highlight 03Green Light ProjectGreen Light, Lighting up Africa
The Green Light Project is a program that supports underdeveloped countries. It promotes education and healthcare rights and helps local communities achieve self-reliance. From 2012 to 2019, Kia Motors established vocational training centers, schools, healthcare centers, and environmental centers in 12 local communities throughout eight African countries and one Asian country. In addition, the project increases accessibility through services such as vehicle support and increases economic independence through the operation of self-reliance projects suitable for local businesses. Once the regions that will receive support have been determined, the Green Light Project identifies the needs of citizens first and then provides continuous support for the next three to five years in order to develop the region. This is the key difference between the Green Light Project and other support programs. As of 2019, local communities in Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique have completed the self-reliance support program and local community transfer. Domestic and overseas employees of Kia Motors are actively participating in the project every year in the form of local volunteering and 1:1 mentoring.

B.R.A.K.E.S. is a safe driving education program for teenagers officially sponsored by Kia Motors America (KMA) since 2012. Because teenage drivers are more likely to experience accidents due to a lack of experience and situational judgment compared to adult drivers, the training teaches the proper responses for various road conditions and emergencies. The training is for American teenagers aged 14 to 18 and their parents. It covers driving rules, such as not using a cell phone while driving, how to do an emergency stop using ABS, and practicing how to avoid slipping when accelerating. In 2019, KMA provided more than 50 vehicles to the B.R.A.K.E.S. program.

Highlight 01Hyundai Green Zone Creating a Green Forest in a Desolate Desert
The Hyundai Green Zone Project is a global ecological restoration project that Hyundai Motor Group has been carrying out since 2008. The first Hyundai Green Zone Project, which successfully transformed an alkaline salt desert into grasslands, was carried out from 2008 through 2013 and covered 50 million square meters in Chakanor, Apakachi, Inner Mongolia, which is a leading source of yellow dust in China. Since 2014, we have also been conducting activities to restore the Baoshaodainao Nur, Zhenglan Qi and Haginor regions to grasslands. Additionally, we are working together with university students from Tianjin and Beijing, Hyundai Motor Group staff volunteer groups, and other participants to continue activities that prevent desertification. In recognition of these contributions to Chinese society, the China Academy of Social Sciences CSR Research Center has ranked Hyundai first in the automotive industry sector on its Corporate Social Responsibility Index for four consecutive years. In addition, Hyundai also ranked fourth on the overall corporate ranking, up one notch from last year.

Coffee Grounds Recycling ProjectHyundai Steel is running a project to recycle coffee grounds in order to explore ways to utilize grounds that are usually thrown out as waste and take the lead in recycling them. Through multilateral public-private cooperation, including with the Ministry of Environment and the Incheon Metropolitan Government, we intend to create a model that goes beyond simple recycling and creates a closed cycle for local natural resources. Hyundai Steel is supporting the collection and transportation of coffee grounds, development of upcycling products, and resourcing of household waste, as well as supporting social enterprises and social ventures by conducting a contest to develop products and build business models.

Hyundai BNG Steel Steel Housing CharityHyundai BNG Steel Steel Housing Charity is a project to build “Steel Houses” for vulnerable people with poor living conditions in the community. Reflecting our character as a steel company, we provide solid and secure living spaces made of steel. Moreover, we are aiding underprivileged individuals who exist in the blind spots of housing welfare to solve their housing problems and promote their physical and mental stability in their new homes by conducting continuous housing improvement projects.
Love Coal SharingEvery year, Hyundai BNG Steel carries out Love Coal Sharing with Masan General Social Welfare Center, to ensure that underprivileged people can live in a warm environment during the winter. In 2019, employees of Hyundai BNG Steel and Myeonggok Volunteers Association delivered 12,000 briquettes to 50 households, including senior citizens living alone, people with disabilities, and low-income families in Masan.
Philanthropic ActivitiesHyundai BNG Steel conducts Philanthropic Activities in conjunction with local welfare centers in Masan to alleviate the problems of senior citizens living alone. We visited seniors to provide food during Lunar New Year, Parents Day, and Chuseok. We also regularly visit them to prevent other social issues, such as senior citizens who die alone.
Handcraft Lessons for Single MomsHyundai BNG Steel conducted a handicraft retail program in conjunction with Korea Welfare Services to support the self-reliance of low-income single mothers, who exist in the blind spots of social welfare. Invitation & Treatment of Child Patients from Iraq In October 2019, Hyundai E&C, in cooperation with the Korea Iraq Friendship Foundation, invited children with heart disease or eye injuries and their caretakers to South Korea. Free treatment was provided for the children, and after the treatment, HDEC held a full recovery event at Hyundai Motorstudios.
Global Social ContributionsSince 2011, Hyundai E&C has carried out 46 global social contribution activities in 20 different countries. Specifically, HDEC has conducted various support programs to help local residents achieve economic independence and growth. In 2019, HDEC carried out a variety of international development cooperation projects needed by local communities in countries such as Myanmar, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. The projects included renovation and maintenance of educational and public facilities, as well as the development of educational programs.
Safety Helmet (H-KIDIANS) ProjectHyundai E&C developed and is distributing Korea’s first children’s disaster prevention safety helmets to create a safe world for children. The disaster prevention safety helmets developed by HDEC are foldable to reduce volume, making them convenient to store. In addition, because they are easy to use, anyone can use them successfully during an emergency. In 2019, HDEC provided 3,000 helmets to eight elementary schools in Gyeongju and conducted disaster safety education and mock evacuation drills, including the “Earthquake Song,” which explains how to use the safety helmets and what to do in an emergency situation.

Through the project, we updated the buildings with modern necessities without destroying them or stripping them of their unique historical charm, leaving a new market atmosphere where traditional and modern meet. Bongpyeong Market Revitalization Project The Bongpyeong Market Revitalization Project started from the question of whether a traditional market can be revitalized without being modernized like large retail stores. We made changes to keep things in order to maintain the identity of the traditional market. For instance, store signs were designed with the theme of people in a market, various recipes were developed with local specialties, and resting areas and bathrooms were placed in empty spaces of the market.
CEO Plan ProgramThe CEO Plan Program, a Hyundai Card Hyundai Capital start-up support program, supports the 2nd life of retirees by serving as a model of a positive feedback loop for job creation. Hyundai Rotem Global CSRHyundai Rotem Global CSR consists of social contribution activities implemented near our overseas branches. In the Philippines, we renovated and repaired children’s centers, sponsored scholarships, funded rental and operation of school vehicles, and provided meals for after-school education. In India, we improved the educational environment and drinking water by renovating schools in low-income areas of Delhi.
Dream PlatformThis is a program that spreads joy and kindness by selecting neglected neighbors, such as the elderly, the blind and deaf, and abused children, who live near the end of Hyundai Rotem’s railway lines and connecting them with employee volunteers who conduct social contribution activities. The scope of the benefits has been gradually expanded in each period by discovering new beneficiaries. In 2019, activities such as providing funding for safety improvement products for senior citizens living alone and supporting psychological treatment for abused children were carried out.
3-Charity Office Worker’s Campaign3-Charity Office Worker’s Campaign is a social contribution project to support marginalized neighbors as well as employees and their families who have suffered from unexpected accidents. In 2019, we provided household supplies for summer to marginalized neighbors who are vulnerable to heat waves, such as children living with their grandparents and senior citizens living alone. We also donated to the Gyeongnam Community Chest of Korea to support rehabilitation of socially vulnerable groups and improve their environment.
45 Volunteer Corps and Regional Social ContributionThe 45 Volunteer Corps is engaged in various volunteer activities in conjunction with local welfare centers and underprivileged families. In addition, Hyundai Rotem is actively involved in various local social contribution projects, spreading love and kindness to our neighbors.

Barrier-free Application Development ContestThis is a contest to develop applications that help socially vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities or the elderly, to enjoy daily life without any barriers. In 2019, out of 43 undergraduate and graduate school teams from all over South Korea, 12 teams were selected and presented more concrete plans. Out of these, the “You Go, We Go” team, which came up with an anti-collision app to guarantee mobility rights for the blind, was chosen as the team with the best plan.
White Hacker Nurturing ProgramThe White Hacker Nurturing Program is the signature social contribution activity of Hyundai Autoever, reflecting the characteristics and capabilities of the company. Hacking competitions nurture the cyber security capabilities of low-income students attending specialized high schools. We are also supporting low-income students who want to become IT security experts by providing education and mentoring.
Volunteering Hyundai Autoever runs a monthly volunteering program for all employees. Various activities have been carried out to benefit socially disadvantaged people, such as delivering side dishes for lunchboxes, hanging wallpaper for vulnerable families, and organizing donations and livelihood support.
Hands-on Educational Experience of Smart MobilityUniversity student mentors provide coding education for elementary students from low-income families. Based on this training, we hold a “Smart Automobile Engineering Contest.” In 2019, elementary students participated in the contest after learning about automobile assembly, self-driving coding, and future mobility technology.

Innocean Mentoring CourseSince 2011, as part of our educational social contribution activities, Innocean Worldwide has been conducting the Innocean Mentoring Course to foster future marketing talent. In 2019, during phase 9 of the project, we carried out mentoring with the National Center for the Rights of the Child on the topic of preventing child abuse. The winning idea of this season received positive attention with a participatory campaign that teaches signs of child abuse in a fun and easy way through a game called “Finding Hidden Clues.”
Innocean BazaarThis year marks the 12th annual Innocean Bazaar employee charity fundraising event. At the 2019 event, more than 10,000 items were sold or auctioned off, including products for advertisements and personal collections donated by the employees themselves. The profits from the auction were used to cover medical expenses for children with cancer.
Innocean Tree Planting Innocean Worldwide’s employees and their families participated in Innocean Tree Planting hosted by the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement. We have been participating in this campaign since 2014, and it is part of “Creating 100 Forests.” As the 29th support group of the campaign, Innocean Worldwide has been working on the “INNOREST,” meaning Innocean+Forest, twice a year in the spring and fall for the past six years.
