PURPOSE:The purpose of this club is to combat ignorance and create a safeenvironment for all students. At meetings, we'll have snacks, chat, maybe listen toa guest speaker or watch a movie and enjoy each other'scompany in a safe supportive environment.

PURPOSE:The fall play is an activity that will encourage you to express yourcreativity and collaborate with other classmates. As a participant,you will learn several aspects of theater arts. Cast size variesbased on production.

PURPOSE:Students will learn skills and organize events to allow them tocompete in business and computer competitions, leading topossible scholarships at many colleges. Students will developleadership skills beyond the classroom and build a career andsocial network through local, regional, and state meetings andconferences.

Meeting Schedule: FBLA meetings will either take place during flex, or before/afterschool. Plan on meeting twice a month. Other events are heldoutside of Red Land that some FBLA officers may need to attend.Competitive events also take place outside of Red Land but in thelocal area.

PURPOSE:Members learn how to debate and win in an argument with apredetermined topic. In addition, they also learn how to performdramatic poetry, shrink a play to under 10 minutes with only twopeople to play the parts, and convince the audience of manydifferent ways to think.  Debate is a great way to meetlike-minded people and sharpen your speaking and arguing skills.

PURPOSE:The JROTC club’s purpose is to motivate and lead youngAmericans to become better citizens through participation inJROTC extra-curricular activities. Color Guard and Drill Team willhave opportunities to perform at school and community events aswell as to compete in area meets. Raider team will prepare forarea and regional meets that are normally scheduled in thespring.  Additionally, all JROTC students are eligible to participatein the spring. Military Ball and parades (Veteran’s Day andMemorial Day.)

PURPOSE:The club helps create long-lasting friendships between studentswith intellectual, developmental and other disabilit ies with thosein the general education environment. Students are matched in amutually enriching one-to-one friendship and partake in variousactivities and events throughout the school year.

Major Events: Special Olympics (WSSD & Messiah) and Concortia Prom.

PURPOSE:This club competes in a yearly competition. This is a serious timecommitment but is very rewarding. You will be advised by andworking with real lawyers. This is a great introduction to law ifanyone is interested.

Major Event: Mock Trial Competition, trip to the courthouse

PURPOSE:Members of the Model United Nations participate in a simulatedUnited Nations conference, representing a particular country onserious global issues. Please see Mr. Fisher if you're interested injoining our Remind.

Major Event: The culminating event is the Penn State Harrisburg Model UNin February of each year.

PURPOSE:Four Diamonds Mini-THON® is an for students to be empoweredas leaders in the fight to conquer childhood cancer. Students gainwork ready skills in communication, critical thinking and problemsolving, while promoting teamwork, creativity and spirit withintheir schools.

Major Events: Powderpuff Football Game, Faculty Basketball Game, Mini-THON

PURPOSE:Key Club is a student-led organization whose goal is to encourageleadership through serving others. Key Club has four core values,leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness. The KeyClub Motto is “Caring – Our way of Life” and this motto isdemonstrated through Key Club's work in the home, school, andcommunity.

Annual Dues: As part of an International organization, dues must be paid to KeyClub International as well as the Pennsylvania district. Dues are$14.00 per year.  Major Events: Babysitting, Story time Nights, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteeringat Animal Shelters, Special Events at Elementary Schools,UNICEF, Kiss A Senior Goodbye, Movie Night, Key ClubConvention, CROP Walk, Rake 'n Run, Turkey Trot, Gift Wrapping,Bell Ringing, United Way's Youth Day of Caring.

PURPOSE:Students prepare to compete in events as indicated by NationalScience Olympiad specifications ranging from testing events tobuilding events.  If you finish in the top handful of teams atRegionals, you get to move on to State competition in April .   RLSO has done this for five consecutive years

PURPOSE:By managing the store, students will be able to promote schoolspirit and learn the principles of running a retail business.

Membership Requirements:  Upperclassman businessstudents will work over period 4 (lunches) to operate and maintainthe school store and perform daily operations. Students will assistby designing spirit wear and developing sales and promotionideas for the stores.

PURPOSE:To recognize scholarship, display character, serve the community,and develop leadership. Please see Mr. Fisher with questions. Members are then selected based oninvolvement in activities, character references, and theirapplication essay. It is important for underclassmen to beengaged in a variety of activities to earn membership into theNHS during Junior and Senior years.

Ongoing Requirement: Each members completes 40 hours of volunteer service peryear, maintains a wide array of activities, displays character at alltimes,and maintains their qualifying GPA.

PURPOSE:The stage crew will be responsible for setting up the soundequipment, l ights, and any other equipment for events in theauditorium. In addition, the stage crew will be responsible forbuilding the sets for the fall play, the spring musical, and othertheatrical events. See any music teacher for more informationabout getting resources to get involved and about stayinginformed for stage crew events during the school year.

PURPOSE:In this activity, students learn to work together, and individually,to tell a story with performance.  They will use costumes, danceand other interpretive movement, along with flags, sabers, mockrifles, and other equipment to do so. Color guard provides acompetitive and empowering environment for student growth.  Indoor color guards can be found in middle schools, high schools,universities and other independent organizations. We are a greatplace to start.

PURPOSE:To offer a comprehensive Big Band experience for the mostexperienced musicians. This would entail playing a wide range ofmusic within the Big Band genre, as well as exploringimprovisation.  This band will serve as ambassadors to our localcommunity through performances at jazz festivals, concerts, andother appropriate events.

PURPOSE:The West Shore Marching Band is recognized as one of the mostunique marching bands on the East Coast. The band wasestablished in 2015 when the Cedar Cliff & Red Land MarchingBands were merged. True to its predecessors, the WSMB is highlycompetitive, and successful, in local and national competitivecircuits. However, its main focus is to provide a cultureof hard work, commitment, excellence, and pride, along with asense of family, for West Shore students, parents, and staff. Theband is proud to be, not only an ambassador for both highschools, but also for our entire school district,and the greater community.

Meeting Schedule: Fall rehearsals are typically on Monday, (Tuesday-Color Guard),Thursday, and Saturday, along with attendance at all homefootball games on Friday nights.  Summer rehearsals are alsorequired. Summer dates are always TBD, per each season.
