PRINCIPAL'S DESK
St. Xavier's College Mahuadanr primarily intends to nurture the latent potentials in students providing an
ideal platform to them to channelize their creative talents and lend expression to their thoughts and views
on various aspects in a serene manner.
St. Xavier's College which is affiliated to Nilamber Pitamber University, Medininagar, Palamu, Jharkhand,
India was established in the year 2011: It has completed 07 years and the 08th year is in progress. To date
four batches have passed out with flying colors.
I'm intensively grateful to the honorable Vice Chancellor and other officials of Nilamber Pitamber
University for extending their constant support to our college.
According to Tony Robbins: "Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible".
To bring forth this theme I am happy and pleased to release our college's first "NEWS BULLETIN" which
presents pithy highlights of major activities of the college which were held in 2017.
This year the college is working very hard for accrediting itself to NAAC (National Assessment and
Accreditation Council). The college has a clear "Vision-Mission", "Goals and Objectives" and to achieve
these goals, the administration of the college with the support of the staff is moving steadily forward. I am
grateful to the Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of the college for their hard work and dedication as the
entire staff of the college is working in unison to achieve these goals.
I congratulate the Staff, Students and the Publication Committee for helping to bring out this News
Bulletin. I hope everyone will find this News Bulletin exciting and interesting. We welcome suggestions and
feedbacks that will help us to improve further.

this event. The main purpose of
establishing the hostel is to
provide the residence facilities to
girls who come from distant
villages for their education as
well as for their security. The

Mr.Babulal Marandi the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand along with the
former Human Resource Development Minister Mr.Bandhu Tirkey visited
the college and assured their support for the college. They appreciated the
college management for providing excellent higher education to the less
privileged indigenous students of this remote area. Their visit was a
morale booster for the college.
Prof. Dr. Brain McCoy SJ, the Jesuit Provincial of Australia and Fr. Trung
SJ, the Mission Rector of Australia visited the college on 11th November
2017. They were given a traditional warm welcome by the Principal, staff
and students of the college. To mark of the event, a grand cultural program
was organised. They shared with the staff and students of the college their
rich experiences of working among the indigenous people of Australia
This has created a lot of curiosity among students and the staff to know
more about the indigenous people of Australia and their culture. It was a
great opportunity for our college to highlight the beauty of our culture and
tradition to our guests. Prior to this occasion we also cherished the proud
moment of the release of first college Magazine ''Xaverian Acme'' by Fr. McCoy SJ. Their appreciation and wishes
boosted everyone's spirit to stride forward and achieve the Vision and Mission of our college like the 'Acme'.

The University Inspection Team inspected the college on 9thJuly
2017, for extending the affiliation for the session 2017-2020. The
team members interacted with the staff and students, then
inspected the laboratories, libraries, computer lab and other
facilities made available in the college. They checked all the files
and documents minutely and prepared their report to the
University, and the file was submitted in the Higher Education
Department of MHRD, Ranchi.
Faculty Development Programs
New committees and clubs were formed by the Principal of the college
on 17thJuly 2017, with the purpose of each and every member of the
college gets an equal opportunity to contribute for the welfare of the
college. Each club is entrusted with a number of responsibilities so that
they may work in a team and blossom perfectly. The main purpose of
forming these committees / clubs is to organize various outreach
programs for the up-building of the students and to bring out the hidden
talents and abilities of the students.
Regular faculty meetings are held in the last week of every month to
enhance the academic development of the college. Important concerns of
the college are discussed to find out proper solutions for the efficient
functioning of the college. The staff also share their views and problems
regarding the same.

was conducted on 08-08-
2017 for the newly appointed staff to make them familiar with the
college atmosphere, environment, the institutional history, the vision-
mission, the culture of the area, the values that the college upholds,
the by-laws of the college, new methods of teaching, and the
importance of teachers' contribution for the development of the

Mr.Dileep Mangaraj, a senior officer, Vishal Technology,
Bhubaneswar was invited to conduct a seminar on
"Enhancement of the Internal Quality of the college" on 6th
September, 2017. During his interaction with the staff, he
gave various inspirational and thought provoking ideas on
'Value Based Education'.
A program on
the usage of fire

was organized for all the college staff and students on 23rdAugust,
2017. Mr.Ashok Kujur, the electrician of the college demonstrated how
to use the fire extinguisher in emergency situations. It brought general
awareness regarding fire accident and use of this equipment during such
emergency situations. Some of the staff had practical demonstrations.
A training program on effective use of ICT in teaching and learning
was organized on August 27th, 2017 by Mr. Ravindra Minj. He
explained the effective ways of operating a computer. He also
summarized the operating process of the projector, external hard
disk and pen drive etc.
A seminar on the
' Impor tance of
English Language'
was organized on 31stAugust 2017. As a guest lecturer, Sr. Lily, the
Principal of St. Michael's was invited to present her views on the
topic. Her informative Power Point presentation produced her
views lucidly clear which served to be motivational to all the faculty
members on how to communicate in English. Further, she
requested them to do the same among the students for the
development of English.
On 14/11/2017 Mr. Khursid Alam, from Adri Technos, Ranchi was invited as a resource person in the college to
organize one day workshop on e-learning for the teaching staff. During his presentation in various examples he
brought out the importance of e-learning in their day to day life with various examples.

Elocution Competition
A short seminar was organized for the staff of the college on the
topic ''Ethics and Excellence in Education'' by Fr. Savarimuthu,
Advocate, High Court, Ranchi. He emphasized on the ethics
which should be followed by every teacher as a responsibility
for creating good citizens for the country. He also brought out
awareness of excellence in education should be our priority.
Development Programs for
The new batch of 2017-2020 were cordially
welcomed to the College on 16th August 2017.
Orientation program was organized for them in the
college from 16th August to 19th August 2017.
They were introduced to the college culture and
were given tips to benefit from teaching sessions on
different outputs like Importance of English,
Rules and Regulations of the college, Women
Empowerment, Self- Hygiene, etc. Students
availed themselves the opportunities to grow better
in the future.
As per the directives of Nilamber Pitamber University, an Essay
Competition was held on 5th September, 2017. Students were
instructed to write an essay on "What can you do for cleanliness?"
Students participated actively and three essays were selected.
Videos on the same were prepared by the students and sent to the
University along with the selected essays.
The Department of English has organized an elocution competition on 19th September, 2017. 92 participants from
various Departments took part in this event. Deepanshu Minj from the Department of English and Pankaj Tirkey
from the Department of Physics excelled and secured the First place. Deepak Kujur from the Department of English
and Arpan Kujur from the Department of Botany secured the second place, & Hemant Minj from the Department of
English secured the third place. Indeed it was a thrilling experience for the entire college.

As per the directives of the University, four students and one program officer of St.
Xavier's college were selected and sent to NCC/NSS camp, organized by NCC 44
Battalion, Medininagar, to the National level in Neterhat. The program was
organized for the students from 30th October 2017 to 06th November 2017.
During this event, 300 candidates of Jharkhand and Goa participated actively in
two days Trekking, Parasailing and Rippling. They also entertained all with their
cultural programs, celebrated National Unity Day on 31st October and performed
other activities. They also gained a lot of experience and learned to be available
for the society at large. Their hard labour was rewarded with participation certificates.
Following the instructions of Nilamber Pitamber University, as a part of the
Election Olympiad, a Quiz Competition was held on the Current Affairs. It was
organized in the college premises on 23rd November 2017. 166 students
participated, among whom 10 pairs were selected for the final round. The
questionnaire on various current issues was prepared and the competition was
conducted with vigor. After the final round top 2 pairs were selected and their
names were sent further to the University. Names of finalists are as follows: 1.
Sureya Khatoon (Dept. of Physics), Hemant Minj (Dept. of English). 2. Deepak
Kujur (Dept. of English), Neeraj Kumar (Dept. of Chemistry).
Seminar was organized in the college on 22nd December, 2017 by IQAC, to
uphold "Promotion of Spiritual and Secular Values among the staff and
students". Sr. Reena Lakra addressed the gathering, focusing on the spiritual
and secular values illustrating them with appropriate examples. She evoked
God as one, whether we pray to Ram, Rahim or Jesus. She emphasized on
''Humanism". She explained whatever religion we follow, first we are humans
and we should respect each other's Religion. She added, every religion teaches
us to be on the path of truth and peace. We should follow the path of God
without any discrimination of caste, creed or religion.
On 06/12/2017 A demonstration program on paper craft was organised for the
students of the college. The resource person was Mr. Ashish from Delhi. He
showed them various paper cuttings and provided them the model booklet
which can make them understand the process of doing the craft. He also added
that this skill can be used by them as their profession in the future.These
decorative craft can be prepared by using waste papers which are a part of
waste management.

International Days
A seminar on wakefulness to Natural Disaster Reduction was
conducted on 07/09/2017 by Eco-Club of the college. The main
goal of the program was to create awareness among the staff and
students regarding unexpected natural calamities and how to
cope up with such situations. By caring for the mother earth and
our environment we can reduce such natural disasters to some
extent. The speakers on the occasion also stressed the need for
taking precautionary steps against natural disasters.
International Literacy Day was celebrated in the college on 8th
September 2017. The main purpose of celebrating the International
Literacy Day was to encourage awareness of literacy so much so that
everyone may become familiar with their social and individual
rights. A short video too was presented to bring out awareness
among students.
World first aid day
was celebrated in
the college premises on September 14, 2017, to promote the
importance of first aid and how to prevent injuries and take
immediate precaution to save life. Sr. Anima from Carmel
Hospital, Mahuadanr was invited to present her views on the
topic. She clarified the doubts of students regarding preliminary
treatments in case of injuries.
Eco club organized OZONE DAY celebration on 16th
September, 2017 as an educational initiative as well as a step to
prompt young minds to contribute their bit in nurturing our
'MOTHER EARTH'. It created awareness among the students
regarding the climate change and ozone depletion. They took an
active participation by making colorful posters and thought
provoking slogans like "Earth without ozone layer is like a
house without a roof '', "Ozone today, oxygen tomorrow".

On the occasion of World sight day, on 18/09/2017an "Eye Operation"
camp was organised in the Carmel Hospital, Mahuadanr in which the
students of the Department of Botany participated. The Students
watched live eye operations, and extended their helping hands by
giving medicines and taking care of the patients.
A seminar on United Nations
Day was conducted on 24th October, 2017. Assistant Professor Anil
Kumar Tete highlighted the importance of this day and the reasons to
celebrate it. Giving an overview of the UNO, he mentioned that after the
Second World War in 1945, the UNO was created to establish peace in the
world. At present there are 192 countries who are members of this
orgsnization and who are making their earnest effort to fulfill its objectives.
The theme for 2017 International Day of Peace was "Together for
Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All." To celebrate this theme
of oneness, on 16/11/2017, all the staff and students gathered
together in the conference hall. While presenting lecture on the
topic, examples of Mother Teresa and Yusuf Malala were
mentioned. Everyone took an oath of a violence free life and of
making every effort to promote peace and harmony in the society.
Awareness program on prevention of HIV/AIDS was organised in
the college on 1st December, 2017. The students of Science
Department delivered speeches and brought out awareness on HIV/AIDS and related issues, and also shared
concept of Red Ribbon Club (RRC) as a symbol of solidarity and support to the people who are affected by HIV. Quiz
competition was conducted for students of Science department in which 16 students participated with full
enthusiasm. The students of Botony Department won the competition. Students also highlighted the day with a skit,
provoking ideas why the victims and their children should not be condemned.

National Days
154th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was
celebrated on 12th January, 2017. On this occasion
speech competition was organised on the theme: "LIFE,
TEACHING AND WORKS OF VIVEKANANDA". Ms.
Najiya Parween (Dept. Of Mathematics), Mr. Lalit Minj
(Dept. Of English) and Ms. Lucy Manohar Kerketta (Dept.
Of Physics) acquired 1st, 2nd and 3rd position accordingly.
The teachings and ideas of Swami Vivekananda were
highlighted by speeches and portrayals. They were quite
enlightening.
Republic Day celebration was held in the college to mark the
67th Republic day of our country on 26th January, 2017. The
National Flag was hoisted by Fr. M. K. Jose SJ, the Principal of
the college. Inspiring speeches were delivered by the students
as well as the Principal, highlighting the importance of India as
a Republic Nation, the laws of the constitution and the sacrifices
of Freedom Fighters.

casting votes. They also took an initiative to bring
out awareness among our students regarding their

On 05/11/2017 a short program was organised in the college campus by NSS cadets of our college to celebrate the
NSS Day. They conducted an awareness program regarding cleanliness, literacy, women empowerment, promotion
of equality, liberty and fraternity,etc...They conducted some games too to make the day solemn.

National Service Scheme (NSS) Day Celebration

NSS camp was organized in the adopted Kala-kuro village from 27th to
31st December 2017 to create an awareness regarding environmental
pollution, cleanliness, living in healthy atmosphere, and keeping the
surroundings clean under the guidance of the Asst. Professors: Maxentius,
John Vinod, Keerti Minj and Anil Kumar Tete. The students visited every
house of this particular village and invited the villagers to join them.
Students and teachers had dialogues with the people regarding their
overall problems. College members also helped them in their farming, in
preparing meals together and sharing it. The inter-personal relationship of
students and villagers gave a great satisfaction to them.
2nd October is marked as the birth anniversary of
Mahatma Gandhi. This day is regarded as
International festival. Since we had our puja
vacation, we anticipated the same on 21st of
September, 2017. The day was dedicated to
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

A seminar was organised to celebrate Human Rights day on 10th
December, 2017. The Political Science department of the college took the
initiative to organise the event and to acknowledge the rights and duties of
every individual. They highlighted the history and the importance of
human rights day and its values.

A program was conducted on energy conservation on 14th
December, 2017 in the college. The emphasis was
basically on conservation of non-renewable energies and
effective use of renewable energy sources. It is stated that
solar energy, wind energy and hydra energy are the only
sources of energy left for the future. Therefore, we should
start using them immediately, even in this college.
Examples like rain water harvesting, solar plates and bio-
gas were exchanged to clear the doubts of the students.
Current affairs and Mathemetical Reasoning competition was organised in the college on 20th December,
2017 on the occasion of Mathemetics Day. Around 120 students participated in the competition. Happy
Kumari Jaiswal, from the Dept. of Maths, and Saurav Kumar from Dept. of Commerce first, Hemant Minj from
Dept. of English second, and Praween Nagesia from the Dept. of History and Ashish Kumar from the Dept. of
Physics stood third.
The Independence Day was celebrated on 15th
August, 2017 in the college. Fr. M. K. Jose SJ, the
Principal of the college hoisted the flag and paid
tribute to our Nation followed by the National
Anthem. On this special occasion, Asst.Professors
Abhinav Chauhan, Anil Kumar Tete and Rashmi
Kandulna brought into limelight the importance of
the day and the responsibility of every member of
the society by their valuable speeches. At the end of
the program, the Principal of the college concluded
with his insipirational talk by stating "Every Indian
needs to be loyal to the country and do
everything with responsibility".
Teachers' Day celebration was held on 5th September, 2017 in
honour of Dr. Sarvapalle Radhakrishnan, the 2nd President of
India. The student Council constituted a short program to
express their love for their teachers. As a token of their love, they
organised a competition between the male and female staffs and
awarded prizes to the winner.

The Department of Hindi organised a seminar on Hindi Diwas on 14th
September,2017. With Hindi as our mother tongue, the people from India
are able to migrate all over the World. It has not only become the National
language, but also an International language. Six of our students delivered
speeches highlighting the growing importance and influence of Hindi
language. They also performed a skit: "Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja",
through which students imbibed the message: 'A confused ruler can bring
the state to chaos'.
Sardar Vallabhai Patel's Jayanti which is also regarded as National
Unity Day was celebrated on 31st October, 2017 in the college. It also
paid homage to the 'Iron Man of India' by lighting the lamp. Admiring
this great personality and his sacrifices for the country, our Principal and
the staff brought out message of determination and creativity among
the students urging them to be responsible citizens and inspired them to
do something better for the country.

took place between our college
students and students of St.
Joseph's +2 school, Mahuadanr,
on 28/07/2017. The ground was
smooth, the weather also
happened to be bright, fit for such
a spectacular event. The game
was hilariously competitive.
On the same day a thrilling match was held between the staff of St. Xavier's
College and St. Joseph's +2 school, Mahuadanr. St. Xavier's college won
the match comfortably to grab the shield / trophy.

Inter departmental games like Badminton; Volley-ball, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho were held on 29thAugust, 2017 in the
college premises to boost students' interest towards games and sports. The entire college was there to cheer the
contestants during the match. The event promoted the interest of the students in sports and games.
A friendly Volleyball match was organized between the students and the staff of the college (Male & Female) on 24th
November 2017. Every participant was very much excited for the promotion of sports and games in the college. The
match was thrilling and exiting. It proved a great opportunity for the teams to put volleyball back into the map of the
college. They are optimistic for the future.

Inter departmental sports like Badminton, Kabaddi and Kho- Kho was held on August 29th, 2017 in the college
premises to boost student's interest towards games and sports. During the match both the participants and the
audience were excited. The ones who did not participate were so boosted up that later they came in to participate.
The entire college enjoyed and encouraged one another for the active participation in sports and games.

A well organised farewell program was
held in honour of Sr.Julie and Sr.Anna
on 29th April 2017. The Principal of the
college delivered the words of
appreciation and gratitude for their hard
work and selfless service rendered to the
entire college, and wished them the very
best for their future. We also bid farewell
to Part-III students by a variety
entertainment program.
The Loyola days as well as Fresher's
day of St. Xavier's College were
celebrated in our premises on 12th
August, 2017. We began our program
with lighting the lamp, which was
followed by a number of dynamic
and enriching programs along with
the life sketch of St.Ignatius Loyola.
We also highlighted the Fresher's day
of our college by conducting various
levels of competitions for all the
students of the college. They were
organised by Asst .Prof. Sanjay Bara
in order to elect Miss and Mr.Fresher
of the college. With knowledge based
and apt response of students Miss.

LOYOLA DAY AND FRESHER'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

A short program on Karam and Id-Ul-Zoha was organised on 1st September, 2017. Lots of preparations were done
to portray the way people of the locality celebrate this great event. With the traditional outfit of "Oraon"culture and
playing the role of "Pahaan", male students went to the Jungle, brought branches of karam tree in procession, female
students welcomed them with traditional songs, danced around it and finally placed them in the "Akhada" of college
campus. Asst.Professors - Pyari Kujur, Kirti Minj and Anil Kumar Tete highlighted the unique way of worshiping
nature, its importance and history. Asst. Professor Zafar Eqbal highlighted the celebration of Id-Ul-Zoha and its
importance. Principal too gave a message of brotherhood on this day. The block level competitions were held on
10th September, 2017 in Mahuadanr. Our college secured 3rd prize.
As a proud day for every Jharkhandi, we anticipated
the celebration of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jayanti

Political Science organised a short program
emphasizing this event by a speech and a skit on the
life, works and freedom struggle of Birsa Munda.

News Bulletin 2018
''Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of love and hospitality''. With
this inspiring thought on the ocassion of Christmas, the staff and students
of the college celebrated an inter-religious gathering on 22nd December
2017. A short enriching cultural program and a skit on the birth of Jesus
were presented by the students. On this special day, everyone in the
college was given a token to identify their own chris-friend as a symbol of
sharing the gift of love with one another. It was a moment of fervour. On
this day, the Principal, Fr. M. K. Jose SJ gave a message on the
importance of religious tolerance and respect for all religions.
On 21st November 2017 the
college organised a gathering of its
old students, Mahuadanr Old
Xaverian Association (MOXA). All
the old students were invited on the
occasion. A short cultural program
was organized for the occasion. The old students shared their experiences with the present students and enlightened
them with their innovative ideas. The staff of the college conducted an interesting game for them. The winners were
Arshad Ali Ansari, Shahid Akhtar, PreetiToppo and Pratima Kumari. Fr.Dr. MK Jose SJ, the Principal addressed
them and emphasized the need to stay connected to the college.
'A new academic year, a new team, much excitement, very little time'.My intent with this issue is to keep up-to-date with the activities going on in the college. As we are just getting ready
with our first News Bulletin, it was quite tough for us to decide how to start and where to go? But, we took it as a
challenge and did it. Now we have our first News Bulletin ready for publication.
We worked 'together as a team channeling our creative efforts to give our best for publication of this bulletin. I thank
all those who have contributed in bringing out the first issue of our college news bulletin.
