It’s been hailed as the thinking man’s sportsbike, the bike for all seasons. It’s
21 years old this year and, as the GSX-R European Cup is proving once again, Suzuki’s GSX-R750 is just reaching its prime...
In 1985 it was pretty radical. By common consent, the fi rst true sportsbike of the modern era and it delivered real Superbike performance to the road.
Suzuki’s GSX-R750 was born from endurance racing, weighed 176gk and produced around 100bhp. Over the intervening years, the now iconic machine has been made more powerful and, despite putting on a few pounds in the early nineties, shed weight again following the introduction of the fi rst beam framed model in 1996.
The GSX-R750 took victories in World Superbike and won the World Endurance title no fewer than four times over a 12-year period from 1987 as its racing heritage continued to shine through.
Over the last ten years or so, 1000cc bikes have risen to the fore in Superbike and Superstock competitions around the world, prompting most of the major manufacturers to desert the 750cc category. Except Suzuki, of course, who sold almost 70,000 GSX-R750s around the world last year.
As Suzuki GB’s sales and marketing manager, Nick Palmer, told Motor Cycle News in a recent feature on the supersport icon: “Where other manufacturers have walked away from the 750 class, we continue to commit to a machine which offers the perfect balance of power and
agility. Instead of resting on our laurels without competition, our engineers in Japan continue to strive for perfection.
“The GSX-R750 is as important to Suzuki today as it was when it was launched 21 years ago,” he continued. “It has grown to iconic status and really encapsulates what Suzuki is all about.”
Nick Palmer’s sentiments refl ected those of Hiroshi Iio in the same MCN article. Iio has been a GSX-R750 project leader at Suzuki and worked for the company for almost 30 years.
“This is not just a bike,” he said, “it is a matter of pride to the engineers and all at Suzuki.”
And it’s not just Suzuki people who believe that the latest version of the 750 is just about as good as a sportsbike gets. The reviews following the launch of the K6 earlier this year at MotoGP and World SBK circuit Phillip Island in Australia, were just about as good as it gets as well.
Michael Neeves of MCN said in his launch report: “Polished and refi ned over more than
two decades since its launch in
1985, the
current GSX-R750 is one of the best-balanced sports bikes you can buy.”
But he didn’t stop there. “The K6 GSX-R750,” Neeves surmised, “is a blockbuster. Suzuki has started with one of the fastest, most user-friendly, best-balanced, most agile sports bikes ever built and made it smoother, punchier, more fl exible, sexier and even easier to ride fast.”
And he concluded: “What a way to celebrate the GSX-R750’s 21st birthday. Just like the 1985 original was the sports bike of choice for those in the know, the 2006 version carries on in exactly the same tradition.”
The technology may have changed signifi cantly since 1985 but, at the age of 21, Suzuki’s iconic Gixxer750 is still as radical as ever – not just because it’s the only 750cc sportsbike that’s still being made, with weight down to 163kg and power up to around 150 horsepower. It’s also got its own international race series.
By way of celebration, Suzuki launched the GSX-R European Cup in 2005 to mark the 750’s 20th anniversary. This followed the GSX-R Cup fi nal of the previous two seasons, when the top national Superstock riders from all over the world gathered for a winner-takes-all battle on the GSX-R1000.
The international fl avour to the competition took hold and last
season’s inaugural GSX-R European Cup was won by Hudson Kennaugh from South Africa, who is now
competing in the National Superstock championship that
supports British Superbikes.
For 2006, the GSX-R European Cup sees teams from Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic and, of course, the United Kingdom.
With six rounds taking place this season at Valencia, Monza, Silverstone, Misano, Lausitz and Magny-Cours, the competition is supporting the rejuvenated World Superbike championship with races taking place in front of enormous crowds of production
racing fans and getting valuable television coverage via Eurosport.
It is, of course, a perfect opportunity to spot potential stars of tomorrow,
who might otherwise struggle to get spotted on the international racing
7
scene. Strict age limits dictate that younger riders are encouraged to participate by individual Suzuki importers, although wildcard riders can be a little longer in the tooth.
Magnus Houston, from Inverness, is one of three riders in the Suzuki GB squad, having taken part in the 2005 series on the recommendation of one Niall Mackenzie. “It’s just a brilliant format,” says Magnus, who is also a regular in the British Superstock championship on a GSX-R1000. “It gives riders the chance to race against competitors from overseas on some of the most famous circuits in Europe.”
“It’s also about learning from some of the best riders in the world,” adds Rob Barber from Bury, another member of Team Suzuki GB also in his second season. “When we went to Monza earlier this season, it was the fi rst time that any of us had been there. So it was great to sit down with James Toseland for half an hour and get his take on the circuit.”
The third member of the squad this season is a young rookie but one that brings with him a remarkable pedigree of short circuit and real road racing. William Dunlop, 20, is the son of Robert, winner of fi ve TT races, and the nephew of TT legend and fi ve times Formula One world champion, the late but truly great Joey Dunlop.
William was born in the same year as the original GSX-R750 and joined the team on the recommendation of the Rizla Suzuki squad for whom he tested last season – ironically with Hudson Kennaugh, winner of the 2005 GSX-R Cup. His fi rst two outings at Valencia and Monza, however, ended in crashes as he learned new tracks and the new GSX-R750K6.
The GSX-R European Cup allows four wildcard entries for the host nation and former World Supersport front-runner, Fabrizio Pirovano, didn’t waste the opportunity to grab a spectacular victory at this year’s Monza round.
The diminutive Italian was similarly dominant at last season’s Misano round but the star of tomorrow surely has to be Belgium’s Xavier Simeon. The 16-year-old won the 2006 series opener at Valencia and, with wildcard’s not scoring championship points, he also took 25 points by fi nishing second to Pirovano at Monza.
Simeon is one of a new breed of young four-stroke riders and he is also contesting the Junior Superstock championship on a GSX-R600. As a member of Troy Corser’s Alstare Suzuki squad, you could be forgiven for assuming that he’s in with a good chance of success. And, with two victories in the fi rst two rounds of this series as well, a double title victory could be on the cards this season.
If Simeon is very lucky, his racing career might last as long as that of the machine that he rides in the GSX-R European Cup. And who would bet against a young upstart of his ilk racing this iconic and evergreen supersports machine in another 21 years from now?

Whether you are passionate about bike racing or simply love riding,
looking at or talking ‘all things bikes’ then Knockhill Racing Circuit is the No.1 place to be on Sunday 25th June.
The famous Fife track will combine rounds 7 & 8 of the Scottish Championship Bike Racing season with the second year of “BikeFair”, to create a full day of action and interest for anyone with even a passing interest in motorcycles.
On the racing front, Kirkcaldy & District Motor Club will present a fabulous day of sport with all the normal classes including F125’s, F400’s, 400 Production, SS600’s, Sports Production, Classics and the popular Sidecars.
Spectators can expect to witness some battle royals with competition white hot in some classes. The Supersport 600 class sees Pitscottie’s Bob Grant way out in front but the next 4 positions are being closely fought and should produce fi reworks.
Adding dynamite to this class will be some of the guys riding in the Virgin Mobile Yamaha Cup on the support programme to the British Superbikes, this meeting giving them a chance to try out the revised circuit before the big one on 15th & 16th July.
The F125’s too should be a hum-dinger with just 7 points separating the top 4
riders. Dalkeith’s Cameron Wilson arrives at Knockhill only one point ahead of Daniel Kinloch from Newton Mearns.
The 13 race action packed programme will start with warming up and qualifying sessions from 9am with races for the 125’s and F400’s in the morning before the lunch break followed by the remaining races.
Also on track but making a dramatically different impact on the expected record crowd will be two of the best known specialised chopper machines in the UK.
‘Preditor’ and ‘Bullet Proof’ will be making their fi rst appearance at the Fife Track and both will be carrying out demonstration runs as well as creating a stunning visual display of these cult motorcycles.
Kids are well catered for too at BikeFair with ‘arrive and ride’ motocross bikes available for 6 year olds and upwards including professional tuition and supervision plus a similar offer on mini-moto’s in the evening. There will be a mini moto race display with the Scottish King of these incredible little racers, Alan McIntosh on hand to advise on how to get involved in the sport and become a star of the future.
Sensational, fl at out quad bikes will throw up the dirt as they compete in the BikeFair trophy races while MotorFair crowd pleasers, the UK FMX guys, will be back to entertain the crowd the only way they know how........
spectacularly!! Watching Gary Taylor and his sidekick Danny Veal perform their airborne stunts is a sight to behold although some people can’t bear to watch as they attack the launch ramp with aplomb aplenty.
Away from all the action, fans can browse or buy at the special trade village with everything from new and used bikes, accessories, tuning equipment, after market exhausts, helmets and clothing suppliers all out to tempt.
One lucky visitor to BikeFair will win a Harley for the weekend courtesy of West Coast Harley simply by visiting their stand and entering the FREE prize draw. Win the bike – make their own easy rider movie!!
BikeFair show organiser Sasha Brunton told ‘Bike Trader’ “This is the second year of Knockhill’s BikeFair and like our sister MotorFair show it’s growing in stature and content each year”. Added Sasha “By 2007 we are looking to establish it as Scotland’s ‘must do’ combined interactive bike, stunt and racing spectacular as we want people to enjoy a fantastic day out”.
The BikeFair is open from 10.00am til 5.00pm with race qualifying from 9am. Adult admission is £12, concessions £6 with children up to 8 years FREE.

On its launch in 1997, Yamaha’s FZS600 set the standard for cost-effective two-
wheeled fun. Everyone from hard working couriers to hard-to-please road testers marveled at the machine’s masterly mix of comfort, reliability and speed. These enviable qualities, combined with style and economy, immediately made the Fazer a fi rm favourite and best seller. So, if it wasn’t broke, why fi x it?
Last year the EC introduced more stringent vehicle emissions regulations. The six-year-old Fazer’s returned Thundercat powerplant
– effi cient as it was – got caught in the crossfi re.
It would have been very easy for Yamaha to modifi y the engine, bolt it back in and have done with it. But instead of a relatively simple fi x-it job, the company’s engineers decided to develop a new generation of 600. This would build on the strengths of the old model and offer even higher levels of engine and chassis performance. It would also incorporate reduceded weight, increased versatility and more sophisticated styling.Press reviews of the 2004 Fazer confi rm that they have done just that. And judging by the looks of its stripped-down brother – the FZ6
– the engineers were enjoying themselves so much that they decided to be even more radical with the funky naked version. The FZ6 is a striking looking bike. At fi rst glance it appears to be sculpted from a single piece of silky smooth aluminium. From its surreal heart-shaped headlamp and muscular fuel tank, along the fl uid frame to its sexy underseat exhaust system, the bike oozes style. The powerful thrust of high technology charges it with 21st
century bladerunner vibes.
The techno-romance theme continues once aboard the bike, turn the key and the compact digital display fl ashes into life. Hit the starter and the dual pipes come on song. A blip of throttle provokes a crisp response as the LCD tacho bar shoots upwards on the main readout. Flick the sidestand up, click down the gearbox, ease out the clutch and you can immediately feel the a the new engine has been reworked. With barely a wisper of throttle the bike pulls away cleanly and such is the tractability of the motor that you can toe in another couple of gears straight away - with or without the clutch
- then simply ride it through town on the torque.
Yamaha’s aim was to take the traditionally manic R6 engine and retune it for maximum everyday enjoyment. This meant creating more low rev response and mid range grunt elements that 99 per cent of riders fi nd far more useful than outright top speed - without losing any of the aggressive donor bike such a blast to ride. And on my ride through Harrogate’s intricate on way system before heading cross-country to Leeds, I’d have to say they’ve succedded.
Apart from the motor, the wide bars and neutral handling make the machine extremely agile. Just a light twist of the wrist will fi re it’s slender form into pretty much any gap in the traffi c you can see. And thanks to the FZ6’s upright, yet focused seating position, you can see most of them.
In town, the bike is a relaxed and capable steed, it’s low pegs surefooted stance, comfortable ride and 70 degree lock-to-lock steering, effectively soothe the pain of gridlock, but don’t be fooled - this city clocker is also equally at home in the country.
On the B roads, a hooligan gene surfaces in the FZ6’s previously refi ned character, The R6 motor that was so well behaved in public now wants to show off and the rigid little two piece aluminium chassis and lightweight fi ve spoke wheels wearing sportsbike-sized rubber only serve to egg it on. Open the throttle and 98bhp literally shoves you down the road.
Maximising rear wheel drive was the prime aim in the FZ6 chassis and engine design - and the results speak for themselves. This is no R1, but on British roads, it is arguably even more fun. Change up through the precise R6 gearbox ratios and it keeps pushing all the way to an ambitious 14,000rpm red line. Hold any gear long enough and you will experience supersport-like top-end rush. Yet despite being curious to fi nd out whether the sound of the air intake at full chat has truly been tuned to harmonise with the exhaust note, as Yamaha claims, I tended to fi nd myself naturally short-shifting and driving through corners around the 8000rpm mark. The faultless smooeth group fuel injection and smart ECU making this task almost effortless.
At speed, the bike remains light and fl ickable with plenty of feeback through the frame. And the brakes - which might only have two pistons per caliper - are more than capable of hauling 180kgs of Yamaha to a stop faster than it accelerated. The riding position that had been comfortable in town remains so, but the dual seat also allows the rider to side forward into a more purposeful stance and your defi nitely feel central to the bike. Even through I am 6’ 2’’ and all legs, 1 found the ergonomically formed tank to be perfectly shaped, so that I could easily brace myself with my knees and still be delicate with the steering - even under hard braking. Even hitting a good old-fashioned Yorkshire pothole while cranked over failed to signifi cantly upset the forgiving suspension.
The bike I took on a ride had zero miles on the clock and brand new tyres, so I never even got close to exploring it’s full potential. I did however, defi nitely get the feeling there was plenty more to come from this stylish and spirited newcomer. It’s proud Fazer lineage was clearly evident,
but something new has been added.
With motorcycling becoming more popular amoung younger image conscious riders, the naked roadster marked is rapidy expanding to accommodate increasingly sophisticated
requirements. So, the fi nal test of any such bike is the pose factory. So, 1 will
admit that I found myself checking the bike’s refl ection in Leeds bountiful store windows as I cruised through town. And judging by the number of admiring stares that my test bike drew while parked outside a cafe bar, Yamaha seems to be riding the zeitgeist with the FZ6.

N e w m o d e l f o r 2 0 0 6Triumph motorcycles have long had a sense of
their own purpose and a sense of distinction and, against a mass of homogenous product, Triumph
motorcycles stand out as being unique. Simply put, they’re not like other bikes in look, feel and character. This is a planned evolutionary process that has become clearer over the last two years with bikes like the stunning Rocket III, iconic Speed Triple and breathtaking Sprint ST. These bikes are evidence of a real focus and desire from Triumph to build their bikes, their way. It’s a process that has gathered great success in terms of worldwide sales, press appreciation and brand identifi cation.
Which is why, from the very fi rst stages of planning, designing and building the revolutionary Daytona 675, Triumph decided to expand and build on that difference and one single word was chosen to inspire the whole project: ‘Incomparable’.
The Daytona 675 stands alone in the hotly contested sports bike arena and while others might compare it to a myriad of motorcycles, it’s very much a statement of how a pure Triumph sports bike should look and, just as importantly, feel. In one single stroke it has redefi ned just how a middleweight sports bike should perform, packing as it does a large amount of power and torque into a small, nimble package.
In the sports bike market many machines are seen almost as disposable by their owners and treated accordingly. In contrast Triumph’s wish for the 675 Daytona was to create an exciting bike that owners will never tire of looking at, cherishing and above all else, riding. Added to this was a desire not only to build the most exciting and useable sports bike that’s ever left the Hinckley factory, but also to steal the crown for the most beautiful sports bike in the market.
The fi rst three-cylinder middleweight, the Daytona 675 stands apart immediately with its inimitable, spine-tingling sound and feel. Integral to this is the triple’s inherent advantage of masses of bottom-end torque, linked to a heavy mid-range punch that’s topped with a searing burst of peak power.
Alongside the desire for a strong, torquey engine, a key part of the design brief for the brand new 675cc power plant was to make the water-cooled, three-cylinder, 12-valve unit extremely compact and narrow, contributing to the overall slimness of the bike. The stacked six-speed gearbox considerably shortens the engine and is the fi rst from Triumph to feature a truly close ratio set-up for all six speeds, maximising the engine’s power and torque perfectly. Bore and stroke is 74.0mm x 52.3mm and peak power of 125PS is delivered at 12,500rpm, with 72Nm torque at 11,750rpm.
A great deal of work went into refi ning the Daytona 675’s new engine without removing any of the triple’s innate character and while it may perform like a racing thoroughbred there’s typical Triumph toughness engineered into every part – this motor’s meant to be used, and used hard again and again.
The Daytona 675’s Keihin closed-loop fuel-injection system uses a trio of 44mm throttle bodies and three 12-point multi-spray injectors. Air is drawn from a port between the headlights and passes directly through the headstock to the airbox. An electronically controlled fl ap in the front of the airbox optimises both acoustics and performance at low, mid and high rpm ranges. The free-fl owing exhaust features an underseat silencer and also utilises a secondary valve to boost torque low down. The engine meets stringent Euro-3 emission regulations.
Designed around the Daytona 675’s engine the spars of the fabricated, open-back, aluminium cast frame wrap over the top of the motor, accentuating further the benefi ts of the narrow three-cylinder design. Rake is set at 23.5°, trail at 86.8mm trail with a wheelbase of 1392mm. The Kayaba 41mm upside down forks are fully adjustable for spring preload and rebound and compression damping, as is the Kayaba piggyback reservoir rear shock. The aluminium swingarm itself is a two-piece casting and measures 574mm from rear wheel spindle to pivot point, greatly improving suspension and rear wheel control. Dry weight is 165kg (363lbs).
The front brakes use a radial master cylinder as well as twin radial four-piston calipers and the fully fl oating 308mm front discs are matched by a 220mm rear. The new wheels are a lightweight fi ve-spoke design and wear super-sticky Pirelli Dragon Super Corsa Pro tyres. Front tyre size is 120/70 ZR17 while the rear is 180/55 ZR17.
The Daytona 675’s digital instrument console has the usual trip functions as well as displaying average fuel economy. Also featured is a 99-lap memory timer – useful for comparing successive laps on a circuit as well as average and maximum speed for each lap. Gear position and programmable gear change shift light indicators are also included. Stylish twin projector beam front headlights (one for dip and one for main beam) give an excellent spread of light and are matched with a lightweight LED (Light Emitting Diode) rear light unit.
Colour options for the Daytona 675 are Scorched Yellow, Tornado Red and Graphite Grey. A full range of accessories will be available for the 675 Daytona, including carbon fi bre front mudguard, infi lls, heel guards and silencer cover. A non-restrictive Triumph exhaust end-can will be available (for circuit use only) and racing specialists Arrow Exhausts are producing a full titanium system that saves over 6kg in weight and adds 5PS, again for circuit use only.
Also, while the Daytona 675 is very much a premium product with top quality components, exceptional attention to detail and high quality fi nish, its fi nal retail price has been deliberately pegged at an affordable level.
With the Daytona 675 Triumph aimed to create an exciting bike that owners will never tire of owning and, above all else, riding. It sits within a class of one, delivering an incredible performance with its exciting, powerful engine and intuitive, razor-sharp chassis. It also looks and sounds like nothing else. All quite deliberate and driven by that one solitary word; ‘incomparable’.
Very few motorcycles can be seen as mould-breaking but the Daytona 675 is defi nitely one of them.

Engineers and designers pull out all of the stops in keeping this award winner at the top of the class.
Few would have thought Kawasaki engineers would tamper with the success enjoyed by its NINJA® ZXTM-10R sportbike over the past two years. Having been named by Cycle World as the Best Superbike of both 2004 and 2005, it would have been easily accepted by the most hardcore of racetrack motorcyclists if Kawasaki had simply rested on its laurels. But, in a move intended to show the brand’s very serious and ongoing commitment to building the most potent motorcycles available, Kawasaki has taken it up another notch with the introduction of this latest version of the NINJA ZX-10R.
Designed for the rider who feels at home in racing leathers, the new liter-class Kawasaki is being brought to market with a complete engine, chassis and aerodynamic makeover, maintaining its top-of-class dominance, whether on the street or racetrack.
It features all new power characteristics, highlighted by a new fuel injection system featuring ultra-fi ne atomizing injectors to work with the 43mm throttle bodies and dual throttle valves. Providing a noticeable boost in mid-range power, the new ZX-10R’s power delivery is also more linear, and its off-corner acceleration capability will satisfy the most demanding of riders. Also contributing to the smoother power delivery is the addition of a heavier fl ywheel, and high-speed generator moved to the end of the crankshaft. Shifting gears while handling the bike’s awesome power output is simplifi ed by improvements to the shift linkage, resulting in smooth, almost effortless transitions.
By repositioning the ZX-10R’s center of gravity, Kawasaki engineers have bettered an already superb handling motorcycle. The new frame also features revised stiffness balance, new motor mounts, more centralized mass, and a relocated swingarm pivot, coupled with a racing-spec Öhlins steering damper. All told, a track-ready handler that is destined to surprise all who put it through its paces.
Combining a short wheelbase with a long swingarm gives the ZX-10R the type of track maneuverability that speaks to its nimble, yet stable handling performance. And even more to the liking of experienced racers, the tucked-in position made so comfortable by the NINJA’s concave tank top and the relationship between pegs, handlebar, and seat, only magnifi es its appropriateness for the track.
How to package all of this potency into a look that yells—virtually screams—aggressive race-readiness was a question Kawasaki’s design team approached seriously.
Aerodynamic performance quickly became the key to their search for a style befi tting this new ZX-10R. Possessing an abundance of power, handling, and performance characteristics, the “look” of the motorcycle need only compliment its core consumer values. The designers focused on a no-frills
approach to delivering an experience that signifi cantly improves aerodynamics with a new fairing, seat cowl, and dual under-seat exhaust system. While the most noticeable effect of this new look is found at the high end of the speedometer, it succeeds in appearing fast, even when sitting still.
DETAILING THE MAKINGS OF A CHAMPION..... Superior Cornering Performance: Finding the right mix of raw power, braking, and handling delivers what Kawasaki engineers recognize is the true meat of a racer’s success: corner exit speeds that dictate ultimate straightaway speeds. Working with the company’s test riders, they combined years of racing and superstock machine development to devise ways to improve this all-important facet of the motorcycle’s performance. The 10R’s chassis was scrutinized like no other, including measurements for both kinetic and static centers of gravity. The power curve was redesigned to deliver more in the mid-range as well as more linear power across the entire rpm spectrum.
TRACK-TUNED CHASSIS: - Repositioning the engine so the crankshaft is slightly higher and in tune with the frame modifi cations results in a higher center of gravity and improved mass centralization. In turn, the new center of gravity for the ZX-10R improves the roll response, particularly important when taking it through a series of esses or when returning it to a vertical position as the rider exits a corner.
- Raising the center of gravity necessitated changes to the engine, as well.
The cylinder bank angle has been reduced from 20? to 23?, the ACG moved from behind the cylinders to the crankshaft end, and the starter clutch moved from the left to the right side cover, while the starter is located behind the cylinders. This relocation allowed the engineers to avoid an increase in engine width, thus helping to maintain a very desirable 52? bank angle.
- The wheelbase is unchanged, despite moving the steering head forward and the change in frame geometry.
- This new frame employs new castings in the steering head area and uses rigid engine mounts—both positively affecting the frame’s stiffness balance.
- The new swingarm uses castings around the pivot area and pressings for the beams and stabilizer. Engineers raised
the swingarm pivot location and that change, combined with the use of a larger rear
tire (190/55ZR17) provides optimum traction coming out of corners.
- The ZX-10R has been outfi tted with adjustable steering damper Öhlins.
SMOOTH POWER DELIVERY: - First, second, and third gear torque output is key to ultimate performance, so controlling power delivery is of signifi cant paramount. The engineers increased the crankshaft’s fl ywheel mass to offer greater stability on corner entry. This increased mass and the ZX-10R’s slipper clutch aid the overall effect. Acceleration out of corners is also improved as the heavier fl ywheel helps resist natural wheelie inclinations in fi rst, second, and third gears.
- Corner exit acceleration also benefi ts from the increased linear power characteristics of the new engine and its stronger mid-range performance.
- A new, round throttle pulley reduces throttle load and combines with revised ECU mapping to provide smoother transitional power characteristics when the rider applies gas coming out of a turn. While this feature has specifi c application in a racing environment, it also works when normal street riding calls for variations in throttle application.
Impressive Power-to Weight Ratio: The new ZX-10R combines the strength of its engine output, a stronger mid-range, and improved aerodynamic effi ciency to deliver quicker acceleration off of turns as well as off the starting line.
MORE POWER, LESS WEIGHT - The NINJA ZX-10R’s liquid-cooled, DOHC 16-valve, 998cc engine benefi ts from new, ultra-fi ne atomizing injectors, as mentioned earlier.
Improved fuel atomization boosts combustion effi ciency for greater power output, more linear power delivery and a smooth, step-free torque curve.
- The new, lightweight Denso radiator has tightly packed cores for improved cooling.
- Weight is further reduced by using a new, die-cast, one-piece seat rail.
- The realignment of the engine, as mentioned earlier, provides a gain in power while reducing engine weight.
IMPROVED AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE:
When a rider ventures into the upper speed ranges in a track environment, aerodynamics can easily provide the difference in competitive lap times, or more directly, in a podium fi nish. Kawasaki engineers and designers determined to deliver a motorcycle for the rider seeking an all-business approach to victory. The ZX-10R shines in those upper speed ranges.

This really is an AJS, a name that older riders will immediately recognise, Fluff Brown bought the rights to AJS in 1974 and along with his son Nick still runs the business today.
Though still heavily involved in the classic off-road scene the company’s main business is the manufacturing of quality road bikes of which the Regal Raptor 125 is the best seller.
It’s easy to see why it’s their best seller, for a 125cc Custom Cruise it looks pretty good with classic black paintwork and silver fl ame decals it looks as mean and moody as a 125 can get, with acres of quality chrome to catch your eye, it really is a shiner.
Inspecting the bike a bit closer it was pleasing to note that the twin stacked exhausts were not just for show but were actually connected to a twin cylinder engine. A big advantage in a market dominated by a single cylinder custom and commuter bikes.
Both pillion and rider seats are heavily padded and thus very comfortable, with the pillion having the added luxury of a sissy bar fi tted as standard.
From the riders point of view the handle bar and good peg position feel very natural and whilst on the move offer a comfortable ride with a good view of the large centrally mounted speedo.
Though not the quickest revving motorbike it’s worth bearing in mind that this bike had less than 150 miles on the clock, so still needed to loosen up quite a bit.
The engine produces 11bhp. So a steady 55-60mph is a comfortable cruising speed. Although 65-70mph is possible but as any custom bike (not just the Raptor) with the upright riding position and lack of ground clearance, is there any need to go that fast around town and in traffi c?!
The Regal Raptor shows it’s real forte and is very easy to ride with
it’s low seat height and low centre of gravity, it is very manoeuvrable and nippy, making it an excellent commuter tool or fi rst bike.
The brakes offer plenty of stopping power and slow the bike progressively without fear of locking up either the front or back wheel. The soft suspension while on quicker roads may be a drawback, it soaks up the bumps and pot-holes of any town centre with ease.
Coming in at around £1555 on the road, the Regal Raptor 125 is excellent value for money. Combining good looks and excellent fuel economy 87mpg!! and a very comfortable ride. It easily undercuts the Suzuki Marauder by £600 and the Kawasaki Eliminator by £1000.
More surprisingly it is cheaper than the CG125 yet looks and feels like a much bigger better bike, all in all the Regal Raptor 125 appears to be a bike worthy of the AJS name.

stylish and easy to use all-rounder at a competitive price.
Its rugged styling has been inspired by the successful XT noticeably smaller than the more specialist DT125RE 2-stroke.

Its user-friendly character, compact dimensions and responsive 4-stroke engine also make the new XT125R a clear choice for customers of all ages who are new to two wheels.
Engine Powering the XT125R is a reliable 124cc air-cooled 4-stroke SOHC single cylinder engine that delivers plenty of smooth, controllable power.
Its ‘square’ bore and stroke dimensions of 54mm x 54mm give a responsive, free-revving engine character, making this new lightweight an extremely rider-friendly bike.

Established in 1999 Rumblurs Motorcycles Ltd is a must for bike enthusiasts of all ages. Situated in the St Clair Street Rail-way Goods Yard the former Station Masters Offi ces are home to an unexpectedly large selection of On and Off Road machines, a well stocked Stores and a value for money Workshop. The yard provides ample parking and an opportunity to test drive some machines.
Rumblurs success has been due in part to their early links with Fast Toys Limited. As the only offi cial Quadzilla dealer in Fife they offer this reliable and successful range of On and Off-Road Quads and bikes together with all the spares and expert back-up that go with buying from an authorised dealer. If you are looking for that extra special gift the Christmas Club operates all year round.
Don’t be misled into thinking that Rumblurs is for the Off-road rider only. One look into the well stocked showroom will show that when it comes to Road bikes this is the place to be. Imagine Harley Davidson look-alikes for the aspiring 16 year old rider and stunning Superbikes for the experienced rider then add every-thing in between and you’ll have some idea of what to expect.
Recent additions of the A.J.S Regal Raptor range and Dealership of the new TGB Scooter range together with a large stock of qual-ity used machines such as Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki mean there is something to suit every taste and every pocket. In the main Kirkcaldy shop there are more than 70 vehicles to choose from so you can be sure of fi nding the machine that’s right for you.
The engine of any Motorcycle shop is its Stores and Rumblurs has a great engine. Whatever your needs be it batteries or bulbs, tubes or lubes, plugs or chains, they’ll have it, or, at the very least, try to get for you, by the next day in many cases.
With between 50 and 100 helmets in stock at any one time, they can suit all ages and riding styles often at unbelievably low prices. A wide range of clothing and safety gear is always available. For the off-roader there’s the excellent Wulfsport range for children and adults. Rumblurs long standing relationship with the com-pany mean there are often unbeatable deals you’ll fi nd nowhere else locally. The on–road rider is also well represented with Akito, Weisse, Prexsport and the well priced RSR range. From jackets
and jeans to boots, goggles and gloves you’ll fi nd it here.Workshop prices are very reasonable, based as they are on a menu system. Basic services start at only £49 and with many permanent offers such as free oil and fi lter with most services your bill will often surprise you.
Whether you are 5 or 95 and looking for some Off-road fun or On-road transport they have the machine, spares and back-up to suit your needs and, with over 95 years biking experience between them, the friendly, knowledge-able staff have the expertise to help you make right choice. Rumblurs relaxed Biker Club atmosphere means you’ll be glad you came.

Krypton: Insurance Approved Alarms
Security is a major concern when riding and storing any motorbike or scooter. With a dramatic increase in hijackings and thefts throughout the country it is essential that the rider has good protection.
The Krypton alarm enables the rider to start the bike’s engine with the remote and, more importantly, to immobilise the bike’s engine in the event of an attempted hijacking (up to 200m range).
The alarm is designed for all motorcycles, especially those with lack of storage as it is compact in size. It offers some excellent features such as its’ low energy-saving draw, 125db siren, easy DIY installation with free technical support and a low direct price. Other good features include its’ voice warning system which will give a verbal warning to anyone touching your bike before the siren is sounded.
The alarm is insurance approved offering up to 25% discount on premiums and with its’ ISO9002 approved certifi cate you know it offers good build quality. Finally, you can’t beat the price! As Krypton is the main distributor, you can buy this quality alarm at the direct cost price of just £79.95+p&p.
