MASS WORSHIP AID GATHERING RITE
Gloria Refrain: Glory to God. Glory to God. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heav’nly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand, the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
Amen. Amen.

Be my rock, my constant refuge, a mighty stronghold to save me, for you are my rock, my stronghold. My God, free me from the hand of the wicked. Refrain
It is you, O Lord who are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. On you I have leaned from my birth; from my mother’s womb, you have been my help. Refrain

Connecting... If someone from your parish stood up this weekend, walked to the ambo, read this gospel, and told you they were the second coming of Christ, what would you do? Is there any situation in which you would believe your neighbor if they imitated Jesus in this week’s gospel?

The Lord’s Prayer
Connecting... What does it mean that love never fails? People die, war continues, greed perseveres, and yet this isn’t a failure of love. Is it love’s absence? Do we simply reject love?
Creed Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? What fuels your !re to move (particularly in these frigidly cold January days)? What motivates you? What makes you tick?
If you’ve spent time in a Catholic, Jesuit environment like I have, or perhaps even if you haven’t, you most likely have been introduced to this quotation from the 28th Superior General of the Jesuits, Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J.:
“Nothing is more practical than !nding God, That is, than falling in love in a quite absolute, !nal way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the mornings, What you will do with your evenings, How you spend your weekends, What you read, Who you know, What breaks your heart, And what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.”
In the essence of this quotation from Arrupe, is the idea that once we !nd God and begin to understand His love that is so eloquently mapped out in today’s reading from Corinthians — it affects everything. At our welcome, God’s love becomes the heartbeat to our lives, and a life of faith is born into everything we do.
In my !rst month here at St. Anthony on the Lake as the new Director of Communications and Stewardship, I have had the privilege of observing the heartbeat of this parish and school community. In a particular way, I see what makes this parish community tick through the organization of the third annual Signature Event taking place on Sat., Feb. 26!
I have jumped right into the planning of the highly anticipated event, giving me a front row seat to how this community comes together to fuel the !re of faith. Appropriately, the theme of this year’s event is “Hearts on Fire,” and as each committee member, sponsor, staff member and parishioner steps forward to fuel the !re with their expertise, generosity and creativity, I’ve been able to see what moves this community.
The “Hearts on Fire” theme nods to the moment the disciples on the road to Emmaus realized that they had been talking with the Risen Christ. “Were our hearts not burning within us?” they noted. And once they realized that not only had they been with Christ, but what that meant for His victory over death, they could not help themselves; they were fueled to run to Jerusalem and tell everyone.
That same kind of contagiously motivating fuel is paralleled in all the hands and generous sponsors who are coming together to bring about the third Annual Signature Event in support of St. Anthony on the Lake’s school, faith formation programs and parish ministries. It’s the kind of fuel that is so strong, that it pushes people to action for something they believe in. Thank you to this community for sharing that burning need to take something you are passionate about and allow it to move you to generosity and action. This is a beautiful witness of faith, hope and love.
Arrupe also has a prayer that begins, “Grant me, O Lord, to see everything now with new eyes...” As a newbie, I lend you all my “new eyes” to St. Anthony on the Lake. This line reminds us to take a step back and remember Who is in charge by pushing away anything that distracts us from God. In reverence to God, it is our duty to stay vigilant of where and how God is working and how we can be plugged in to the work of building the Kingdom. My “new eyes” to this parish see a great love for God and desire to continue to fuel the !re of our Catholic faith community.
How does the Signature Event remind us all of what fuel we are bringing to the !re? What moves us? What sets our “Hearts on Fire?” These are meaningful questions for this event and beyond.
If you are looking to get involved in this year’s Signature Event, there are still a limited number of tickets available via registration on the St. Anthony on the Lake website. Whether you are purchasing tickets to attend the event or not, you can be a part of it through volunteering at the event, the silent auction online, becoming a sponsor, donating an auction item or participating in the Cash Raffle. Find all the details at www.stanthony.cc/signature-event.

4K Teacher Our 4K class has been spending time learning about different objects and their characteristics. We have been measuring the length and height of things around the classroom using our eyes, cubes, and even marshmallows. We have learned what a scientific hypothesis is and demonstrated our understanding of that through our study of magnets. We explored several objects by first making a hypothesis of whether an object was magnetic or not and then tested that out with magnets. The children had so much fun figuring out all the things in our classroom that are magnetic. In 4K we continue to grow our minds and learn new things through hands on activities.
