Sydney Sixers Day Coincides with Charity/Ladies Day The Sydney Sixers approached the Randy Petes early in the season to host a Sixers Day at Coogee Oval during the season. The club jumped at the chance as it fitted the bill to promote cricket in our community. The day fell on Sunday 18 October 2015 and was an unprecedented success with the Sixers stating that out of the 3 Sixers Days held the largest attendance was at Coogee with over 200 kids participating in Milo Cricket during the lunch break. Sixers Ladies Lisa Sthalekar and Alyssa Healy were on hand to coach the kids in partnership with our lower graders. The day coincided with the Randy Pete’s Charity and Ladies Day in support of Bears of Hope (supporting families) and Soldier On (supporting returned servicemen and women from the armed forces and emergency services suffering PTSD). The day was a success with the club raising over $1000 for both charities.
2015-16 RANDY PETES CHARITY PARTNERS
Randy Petes Sixers The success of the 1st Grade side in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 and the consistent performers of key players saw Adam Semple (2nd year) and Daniel Sams, Anthony Sams and Soumil Chhibber (pictured) being named in the Sydney Sixers Academy team for the first time. Each played in the Triforce Sports Cup against the Thunder Academy, Darren Lehmann Academy (where Barry McCarthy represented) and the Triforce side at Drummoyne Oval. Chhibber went one better this year being rewarded for his form in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup signing a Community Rookie contract with the Sixers. Congratulations are also extended from the club to Henry Thornton who was similarly rewarded with a Melbourne Stars Rookie contract.

Irish Cricket Connections - Barry McCarthy and Peter Chase
In 2015-16 the Randy Petes welcomed the first recipient of the Official Overseas Scholarship
Programme – Barry John McCarthy. Discussions between the Committee and Richard
Holdsworth and John Bracewell at Cricket Ireland facilitated by John Stewart, initially centred
on the possibility of a top/ middle order batsman.
Within a month Barry McCarthy was earmarked as the possible player to join the Randy Petes.
A medium pace bowler and lower order batsman with Durham CCC, he made his Championship
debut v Nottinghamshire a month before his expected arrival in Sydney.
Peter Devlin and Bill Anderson made enquiries with former Ireland Captain Trent Johnston
about Baz, and with a positive report to hand, signed off his stay with the Randy Petes. In parallel
with Barry’s arrival, fellow Irishman Dale McDonough, had earlier contacted the club about the
possibility of playing while working as a groundsman with Green Options, and had informed us
of Baz’ abilities as an all-rounder. (Dale and fellow Irishman Paul Lawson strengthened the Irish
connection at the Randy Petes this season – with both playing in the Metro Gold side)
Baz quickly settled into the Randy Petes and showed his professionalism with his enthusiasm at training a day after landing.
Never one to miss training, he was one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave and took it upon himself to make friends
with all players from 1s to Metro and to assist players improving their game.
He debuted in 2nd Grade v Sydney University in Round 3 at Coogee returning match figures of 2-41 and scoring 38. Another 4
matches in 2s with 10 more wickets under his belt resulted in an early Christmas present being 1st Grade capped player 103 v
Penrith at Howell Oval.
He was also quickly elevated to the T20 squad and showed his professionalism running the water before debuting in T20 cricket
for the Randy Petes in the Grand Final of the Kingsgrove Sports Cup at Coogee Oval.
Baz and Chaser team mates and flatmates reunited again
Baz was also able to work on his game, training with the Blues
under the eye of Trent Johnston and was also called into the
Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy with other County players
against the Big Bash Sixers and Thunder Academy sides at
Drummoyne Oval.
He also participated in a batting academy with the Global Cricket
School headed by Sachin Bajaj resulting in 223 runs including a
top score of 51 v Sutherland and a couple of lusty blows.
Prior to the New Year’s Test he was a net bowler against the
Windies and was able to reunite with Phil Simmons and Carlos
Braithwaite – a former overseas Pro in Ireland.
Of his stay at the Randy Petes Baz said of the experience that, “It
was an amazing experience to play for the Randy Petes. I was slightly nervous heading over … (but) it didn’t take long to adapt to the lifestyle
and it helped that everyone at the club was extremely welcoming. I knew going over that the trip was going to be a good opportunity to play
in different conditions and I am very glad I have done so. Reflecting on the experience I feel it was very beneficial for both myself individually
and for my cricket. Playing throughout my off season will no doubt have me one step ahead of where I have been at this stage of any previous
pre-season. I certainly feel my cricket has benefited from my time with Randwick Petersham and would jump at the opportunity to return”.
Unexpectedly towards the backend of the season Cricket Ireland requested if Peter Chase could join the Randy Petes and
participate in the club’s training program while recovering from injury. Having not bowled since the 2015 Cricket World Cup of
which he was a squad member, “Chaser” arrived and participated in 1s and 2s pre-match warm ups, worked with Bowling Coach
Nick Warren and trained with the Grade players on Tuesday and Thursday as well as TJ and the NSW Blues. Of his stay Peter
said “It’s been a great 4 weeks at the Randy Petes. Big thanks to everyone at the Club for looking after me so well and allowing
me to be part of a fantastic club with a great bunch of people. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to come out here and would
jump at the chance to come back again. I would like to wish everyone at the Club the very best in the future.”
NEWS FLASH: In June 2016 Barry made his International debut for Ireland playing Sri Lanka at Dublin in an ODI. He took 2-
69 off 9 overs in a match won by Sri Lanka 303 to 216. Two days later again v Sri Lanka he took 2/52 off 8 overs.
Randwick Petersham 15th Annual Report 2015 - 1640
Jason Sangha
Jason Jaskirat Singh Sangha was born on 8 September 1999 at Randwick Hospital. He attended Coogee Public School and played his first game of cricket for Randwick Gold Juniors as a nine year old. In 2009 the family moved to Newcastle. Jason attended Biddabah Public School and three years later commenced year 7 at Hunter Sports High. Jason represented Newcastle in the various age representative cricket teams with distinction and under the guidance of former Randwick Petersham batsman Brett Jackson his development moved at such pace that on 26 January 2013 aged 13, Jason made his 1st Grade debut for Wallsend. From this point his prodigious talent shone through. Jason was selected in the NSW Under 15 All Schools team to compete in the National Championships in Darwin and from there he made the Under 16 Australian team. He was then chosen in the NSW Open Schoolboys Cricket team to tour UK. Next came selection in the NSW Under 17s and the Australian Under 17s, followed by selection in the Cricket Australia team to compete at the National Under 19s carnival in Adelaide. His performances were such that he was then selected in the Australian Under 19 ICC World Cup squad, still at 16 years of age! Jason travelled to Dubai for the Under 19 Tri Series against New Zealand and Pakistan, scoring a century in his international debut against Pakistan. On returning to Australia, Jason and his family decided Sydney beckoned and never forgot his original place of residence....Coogee. Since his first game with Randwick Petersham on 13 February 2016 Jason has been selected in the NSW 2nd X1 (at 16 years and 155 days the youngest player since Archie Jackson in 1925), received a NSW rookie contract (the youngest ever), attended the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence, received a Sydney Thunder rookie contract (the youngest ever), played in the NSW All Schools Carnival and was selected in the All Schools team to play Queensland later this year. Jason is a stylish and graceful player but powerful beyond his years. He has a significant list of achievements already for one so young. His natural talent is supported by a strong work ethic, mature approach, passion for the game and humble nature. A quote attributed to Greg Chappell best sums up Jason's talent..." Jason is a very talented cricketer, he is an elegant strokemaker with a touch of class which is the hallmark of the very best players. His drives are picturesque, his defence solid and his footwork quick and nimble". What more needs to be said!

The Randy Petes Gold Metropolitan Cup team had a very successful season finishing as Finalists. A stable playing nucleus, blending
youth and experience, was a revelation as it taught the youngsters’ fresh from juniors how to mix it with the adults. Adding three
overseas players from England and Ireland added another cricket perspective and certainly increased the enthusiasm and skill set
that has been lacking in Metros for a while. As Captain it was rewarding to bring a mixture of players and personalities together
and build a rock-solid camaraderie and team spirit that was evident on and off the field. These characteristics, coupled with the
player’s cricketing skills and exemplary commitment to training (first to arrive and last to leave each week) and club events, was
rewarded with a second place finish and a spot in the Grand Final.
The season began lethargically with a washout in Round 1 and a Bye in Round 2 (gifting Gold a maximum of 8 points). As the team
gelled, we were provided two wake up calls by the students of Sydney and UNSW Gold who dished up defeats against us in the
following two rounds. But the boys didn’t once drop their heads. Instead they began to exhibit the guts and determination that
continued throughout the season.
In Round 5 (Nov 7), a match affected by the weather, the Gold started a winning streak that ended in Round 13 (7 wins and 2
draws), with a 51 run win over Gordon. It was a God-send that the Irish duo (self-titled Strauss and Cook 2.0) were reunited for
this match and thrived in the wet conditions, turning Gordon’s joy at winning the toss into despair with an opening stand of 79 in
9 overs, setting up a comprehensive victory. (It was pleasing to read in the Gordon Skipper’s match report that “Gordon won the
toss on a very juicy wicket. The Randy Petes captain apologised to his team mates. We set ourselves the target of bowling them
out for under 100.”) Having McDonough and Lawson in the team (Paul to Round 13 and Dale to Round 15) was paramount in the
team lifting in every match. In previous Metro seasons running had been a particularly poor aspect but both taught every player
of the importance of aggressive cricket and running and in turn putting pressure back on the opposition. Both also added to the
spin department with Paul returning best figures of 3/60 and Dale 5/8. Dale also finished the regular season as the leading batsman
in the competition with 372 runs. Importantly, they also acted as surrogate brothers to the younger players in particular ‘The Fox.’
With the ball Englishman Sam Boyns provided an “X” factor. He took a few matches to find his feet in Australian conditions as he
became carried away with the pace and bounce. This resulted in him going wicket less at David Phillips. In the Round 6 match v
Mosman he found his length and after Gold declared late in the day at 8-322 “Spesh” bowled with pace putting the openers on
the backfoot from ball 1. Luckily the opener got his gloves up just in time as a bouncer reared at pace. The following week he
returned with pace and an awkward bounce broke Jastrzab’s thumb prematurely ending his season. He finished the season with
three 5 wicket hauls with a best of 6-35 v Sydney where he broke them early after they won the toss and batted. He certainly
shook up a number of batsmen in all teams we faced and it lifted the team to see a nervous top order batsman walking to the
crease. To finish with the second best ever tally in Metro for the club (42 wickets at 15.61) and the best in the competition
highlights his skills as a strike bowler. We hope to see “Spesh” back in 2016-17 adding to his wicket tally and tales away from the
cricket field.
Under the captaincy of Dale McDonough in Round 9 Gold had the distinction of being the only team to defeat Penrith during the
regular season. Batting first McDonough led the way with 66 out of 168 and Spesh used the “English” conditions to blast out the
Panthers for 136 finishing with 5-17 from his 10. A great team effort showing character against the red-hot first place side who
were sitting on 55 points at the time.
Early in the season there was a thought amongst the senior players that we would have to contribute to the bulk of the runs and
wickets but as each match passed, especially from Round 8 onwards, the youngsters of the team began to step up and oozed
confidence and certainly did not back down against the older players they faced. Among the dominating wins (including dismissing
Sydney for 58 in Round 10 and Hawkesbury for 66 in Round 12) the humbling of Gordon was very satisfying. We dismissed the
Stags for 88 in 30.5 overs and chased the total with 8 wickets in hand in 23 overs - grabbing two bonus points in the process. But
what stood out was that every bowler maintained pressure and the fielding was on song.
Liam O’Loughlin received limited opportunities to bowl his spinners post HSC but in the Metro Derby he made an important
breakthrough and was unstoppable from thereon and in a tight finish to the Round 13 match v Georges River batted for 52
minutes, with E-Young 0 runs in 21 mins) and hit the winning runs with a slog over mid-off. He also finished with 18 wickets at
20.38 which placed him as the 13th best bowler in the competition.

THE KEN DEVLIN AWARDSKen Devlin is a member of Randwick Petersham “Legends”. He is husband to Madge and father of Steve and Peter, all of whom have been involvedwith the club as they were with Randwick for over 30 years. Ken first presented these awards at Randwick in 1983.
MOST RUNS: Nathan Price—1,074 RunsAlthough Nathan Price has been the leading 1st Grade batsman for the past three years this is the first time
he has taken out this award. And he has won it in style with a total of 1,074 runs, comprised of 822 in the
Belvidere Cup and 252 in the Twenty20 Cup. Nathan hit four centuries (equalling record with Usman
Khawaja) and three half-centuries in this total with his best being 162 against Sutherland, 148* playing
Manly, 123*against Hawkesbury while against Sydney in the Twenty20 Cup he hit an amazing 101 off just
51 balls with nine sixes! And he almost added another three figure score to his tally when he was caught
behind for 99 playing Campbelltown-Camden. He also had scores of 56 against Sydney University and 63
playing Sydney. Between rounds 5 and 11 his five innings produced 466 runs (which included three
centuries) at the almost unbelievable average of 155.33!
With 1,074 runs Nathan is only the third player behind Usman and Richard CheeQuee to pass the 1,000
runs mark in a season. Apart from being a solid first-drop batsman he is also a dasher with no less than 22
sixes included in his 822 total. He also smashed 13 sixes in the Twenty20 competition where he opens the
batting. And while he captained NSW in the Indigenous National Cricket Championships the mystery for his
army of admiring fans is why a NSW Sheffield Shield team has not as yet contained the name Nathan Price.
MOST WICKETS:
Grade matches: Daniel Sams-- 48 wicketsThe spearhead of the 1st Grade attack Daniel Sams had a magnificent season with the ball taking the most
wickets by a 1st grader since Jon Lewis took 52 in 2003-04. His consistency was outstanding and he took
at least one wicket in 20 of the 24 innings in which he bowled. He took two wickets on 13 occasions and
three five times. His best performance was his 6-60 off 18 overs against Sutherland at Petersham Oval. His
48 wickets comprised 38 in the combined Belvidere Cup / Limited Overs competition while in the
Twenty20 Cup he took 10 including a superb 3-18 off the maximum four overs against Newcastle. His
performance went a long way towards his team securing the Twenty20 Cup for the third time. His overall
total of 48 was second only to his bowling partner of last season Nathan Ellis who took 50 for his new club
St George. Daniel also passed the 100 wickets in 1st Grade milestone to finish with 138. He also had a
great summer with the bat hitting a career best century of 121 against Gordon at Petersham Oval in a
season total of 379.
Metro Cup matches: Samuel Boyns-- 42 WicketsSamuel Boyns, a native of Maidstone, Kent arrived at the Randy Petes via a former UK teammate of Neale
Anderson. Known as “Spesh” he understood that he wouldn’t be graded because of the limits on overseas
players and took to Metro and the club with great enthusiasm and commitment. Coming off a successful
UK season with 74 wickets at 15.60 he began his Aussie Summer with 3-67 against Sydney Uni. before
going wicketless against UNSW Gold. He then found his line and length and with his eyes set on the Metro
bowling record, he became the teams’ premier strike bowler. Many a Gold victory was on the back of his
bowling, blowing away the top orders of most teams, many of whom were intimidated by his pace and
bounce - something rarely experienced in Metro. Throughout the season he claimed three 5 wicket hauls
with a best of 6-35 against Sydney while his 5-17 was paramount in defeating eventual premiers Penrith
at Kensington. With 42 wickets at 15.61 he also had the honour of being the leading bowler in the
Metropolitan Cup competition. We look forward to welcoming back “Spesh” next season.

THE PETER ROLLS AWARDPeter Rolls is a Life Member of the club and a former 1st Grade player with Petersham-Marrickville.
Thomas McKenzie: Twenty year old Tom McKenzie joined us from Western Suburbs this season and
impressed keen judges with many persistent performances at the bowling crease. A right-arm pace man
he was an important part of the 2nd Grade attack finishing with 16 wickets. His best return was 4-36 off
15 overs against St George. His 2-10 off 6 overs playing Manly and 2-47 from 14 were also performances
which indicated the best is yet to come. An enthusiastic cricketer his development will be followed with
interest in the seasons ahead.
THE DUNCAN SCOTT-GLASSOCK MEMORIAL AWARDDuncan Scott-Glassock was a former 1st Grade seam bowler with Randwick in the 1970’s who died in 2006 aged just
57. This award continues in his name through the generosity of his wife Penny and family.Ashley Burton: Ash Burton is a right hand bat who has come through the A W Green Shield system. He
has featured in the lower grades for the last few seasons and played finals cricket in 5th Grade two seasons
ago. Last season was a breakthrough season for “Burto” who cemented his spot in the 3rd Grade middle
order. His attendance and efforts at training caught the eye of many and he was viewed as a man not keen
to give his wicket away cheaply as evidenced by some winning partnerships in 3s. A zippy left hand bowler
he has real potential as an all-rounder in coming years. A quality young player on the way up.
THE WAYNE MULHERIN AWARDWayne Mulherin is a Life Member of the club and former President of Petersham-Marrickville who played Sheffield Shieldcricket for NSW.
Tyzac Bailey: While school commitments limited Tyzac’s game time, when he did pull on the green and
gold his performances showed what a bright future he has in the game. An aggressive
wicketkeeper/batsman, Tyzac displays maturity beyond his 17 years, the prime example being his innings
of 94 in 121 minutes with 9 fours and 2 sixes against Mosman in 4 th Grade in Round 10. His glovework
behind the stumps was also classy, picking up seven catches and a stumping in three games. We look
forward to getting Tyzac on deck full time once school commitments are completed as he is one of the
most promising players in the club.
THE JOHN CONNELL AWARDJohn Connell has been a manager of many club teams including a number which have won premierships.
Kel Mullins: Kel Mullins was a member of the Green Shield and Metro Gold teams playing Finals cricket and performing strongly
in both. In Green Shield he played well as a keeper/batsman scoring 33 runs and effecting 11 dismissals
with the highlight being his lower order innings of 22 v UNSW to set a defendable total of 191. For Metro
Gold he scored 162 at 20.25 with a mature innings of 79 against Blacktown lasting over three hours. As a
backup ‘keeper to Sidney his fielding in the ring was mostly impenetrable. His potential was recognised
with a call up to 4th Grade late in the season and he stood tall against UNSW topping the innings with 13
as more senior players fell around him.
THE MIKE WHITNEY AWARDMike Whitney is the President of the club, a Life Member and former Australian and NSW left hand fast bowler whoplayed for Randwick between 1976 and 1994.
Mac Jenkins: Another Green Shield and Metro Gold player Mac Jenkins at only
13 years of age showed his potential in spades. His small stature defies his heart as was shown batting at
4 in Metro against Blacktown where they persistently bounced him. Unfazed Mac batted for 151 minutes
scoring 47 and hooked with ease. In Green Shield his lower order 22 against Saints resulted in a match
winning total of 168 and featured in two of the best tail end partnerships for the team, the other being
against eventual Premiers Mosman. As a left-arm orthodox bowler he has the ability to apply and
maintain great amounts of pressure restricting many a free-flowing batsman with his accuracy and flight.
His potential was rewarded in round 15 with selection in 4s scoring 7 and taking 3-38 from his 10.

Socialby Karl Schubert & Nigil Singh
This year we again had an enjoyable social calendar which helped bond us for our on-field exploits. The main club events were:
Post-training BBQs
New this year were a handful of highly over catered but exceptionally enjoyable post training BBQs. With Snape Park, Coogee Oval
and Sydney Boys High all playing host to a great excuse for a feed and a chat after an intense net session.
Christmas and New Year’s Drinks
Thanks to a new sponsor this year the Randy Petes Christmas party was held at the Randwick Bowling Club. Around 50 players
and supporters enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon barefoot roll, a kebab and sausage and of course the bowlo’s hospitality! With
plenty of laughs on offer with some appalling bowls action it was a great way to unwind after the first half of the season.
End of Season Drinks
With the thirsty 3ds and our Metro Gold sides the only teams to reach the finals this year the end of season drinks wasn’t as festive
an occasion as it has been in the past. However, our new sponsors the Randwick Bowling Club were great hosts for the night.
With plenty of laughs and grand tales of success and failure, drinks were enjoyed until the sound of a circuit called.
The President’s LuncheonThe annual President’s lunch featured two very funny men – Australian cricket legend Merv Hughes and evergreen comedian Paul
Martell. The lunch was compered by the king of Master of Ceremonies, Randwick Petersham’s very own Graeme Hughes.
Club President Mike Whitney introduced the event, thanking sponsors and telling a few stories of his own against Big Merv – who
roomed together a few times on tour.
The Randy Pete’s President’s Luncheon is one of the premium events on the cricket calendar. The event draws sponsors, club
members and business people - who bring along their clients and suppliers. President Whitney thanked the event organisers,
especially Chris Sullivan. The auction was a great success through the efforts of our very own auctioneer Steven Smith.

Junior Development ReportBy Eddie Otto
Randwick Petersham players and coaches were again active this season in the area of Junior Development. The aim being to tap
into our vast junior areas covering the Inner West and South East by helping schools and clubs and promoting the game of cricket.
Before the start of the season Randwick Petersham sought expressions of interest from clubs in our region that would be
interested in having the club help them out in any capacity. This was to be achieved in various ways such as training sessions,
attendance at functions or providing a coach for the whole or part of the season.
A number of players and coaches in our club came on board and helped provide assistance throughout a rewarding year. David
Skuthorpe was a pillar of strength as usual working with the Marrickville Cricket Club as well as the Canterbury Wests under 12s
side which made the semi-finals. He was ably assisted by Nathan Stares. Tom McKenzie and Simon Gould were heavily involved
in helping Ashfield Cricket Club this season and brought a number of their talented players to our A W Green Shield trials. Glen
Standing, a tireless contributor to SECJA over the years coached the under 10s SECJA Rep side which made the Grand Final.
At the SCG Indoor Centre Eddie Otto, Max Moran and Jack Preddey were involved in plenty of one-on-one coaching with kids from
a number of schools. Schools included Cranbrook, Scots College, Waverley College, Coogee Public, Randwick Boys and a number
of others in the area.
The very successful Steve Waugh Academy was launched last season and included two camps at Snape Park. The club’s Head
Coach Greg Small played a huge role in these camps and the outstanding number of players that attended the January camp were
a testament to his hard work. Simon Gould and Alex Kemp were also heavily involved in the successful running of the camps which
used the club’s facilities and helped promote cricket in our area.
The club was also proud to have tables at the Randwick Juniors Annual Fundraising Dinner in February at The Doncaster Hotel.
Club captain Adam Semple was in attendance along with senior figures Alan Wright, Aden Nawaz, Eddie Otto and Metros captain
John Stewert. Attending Marrickville Cricket Clubs’ annual awards night were Adam Semple and Anthony Sams along with David
Skuthorpe.
There is no doubt we would like to do more in terms of junior development as a club. Off-season meetings with Randwick Juniors,
Canterbury Wests and Marrickville cricket club were positive. This can hopefully help establish some exciting programs in regards
to junior development in in 2016-17.
