This project focuses on those who shopping for small families, which is a trend especially in big cities. People in this group usually purchase relatively small amount of items, but tend to shop more frequently for freshness reasons.
Based on this focused group, series of reasearch are done in order to come up with a systematic design that will make the shopping experience more enjoyable.

• Move items from the cart to the counter (unorganized)
• Wait in line• Ask for assistance if error
appears or mistakenly click something - extra time
• Spend extra time walking around and see if there is anything need to buy but forget to put into the list
• Separate different items in different area of the cart (only if buy a lot)
• This action happened 10% of times based on survey
• Take time reorganize the shopping sequence to spend less time walking and searching
• Move bagged items from the cart to the car/ transportation serveices
• Move items from the counter to separated bags
• Move bagged items to the cart

• Might cause negative
emotions based on how
much time the consumer

• Want to finish the check out

• Often experience multiple

leave negative emotions
• Realize the sorting done

• Have to re-bag and move
everything again
• Feel better just because it is

FRESHEN Fridge / 2015.9 - 2015.11

FRESHENDue to space limitation, lack of awareness and
technology ... , most of the college students who
live on campus do not have a comprehensive
understanding about “Food Safety”.
My design goal is to create a unique experience for college students to build and maintain healthy food-related behaviors.
Fridge for College Student
Zhiyan Wang / Project Portfolio / Purdue University / 2016
FRESHEN Fridge / 2015.9 - 2015.11
OOPS! I TOTALLY FORGOT!How long do you usually keep your leftovers in your fridge? College students who cook or store food in fridge in their dorms usually cook a large amount of food each time and store those leftovers in their fridges for a long time concumption, which causes them forgeting what they stored and when they put certain food in.All these behaviors in most of the cases Food Poinsoning and other related health concerns.
Zhiyan Wang / Project Portfolio / Purdue University / 2016
FRESHEN Fridge / 2015.9 - 2015.11
FOOD POISONINGLeftovers kept for more than 3 days in the fridge, the risk of food poisoning increases. Food poisoning - also called foodborne illness, is caused by harmful organisms, such as bacteria in contaminated food. Because bacteria typically don’t change the taste, smell or look of food, you can’t tell whether a food is dangerous to eat. So if you’re in doubt about a food’s safety, it’s best to throw it out.

WHAT CAUSE FOOD POISONING AT COLLEGE?Among College StudentsFood poisoning is caused by food and water which has become infected by bacteria, or viruses, parasites or toxins. This results in different types of food poisoning although they share the same symptoms, for example abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Students Who Live On Campus and Cook By Themselves
“Sometimes I have stomachache, but I buy and prepare the food my own, the food SHOULD be fine.“
“I do make sure all the food are cooked before I eat it. But foodborne still happen to me. I DON’T know why.“
“Oh! Is it because of the fridge? Yeah, maybe I kept the food in fridge for too long, but it doesn’t smell bad at all and looks okay. DIDN’T pay attention to it though.“
“Right, it always happen to me, I FORGOT I even bought this and that before I do a complete check of my fridge every month or so.“

PERSONA
COLLEGE STUDENTS WANT: - CONVENIENCE - EASY TO ACCESS - SPEED - HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Jane has a very busy schedule during her junior year so she rarely cook. She tried very hard to keep slim because
she has several job interviews in the next few months. That’s the reason why she bike to classes everyday and try
to walk as often as possible. She has her academic life relatively organized, but sometimes she also experiences
procrastination. Her family is around middle class. But her parents let her fight for her own future and since the
first year at college, she started doing part-time jobs and saving money every month. Due to the busy schedule,
she usually brought dishes from resturant after work or bought microwavable food from super market.
She mentioned several times to her friends and parents that she really wants a balanced life that she can go
to yoga classes more often and cook fresh food more often, not just eat fast food or microwave food.
Now, even though there is a kitchen in her dorm that she can use, she usually cooks 1-2 times a month maximum.
“ I wish I had 48 hours/day so I can keep healthy and maintain academic performance at college.”

As Leica turns 100, Simon Garfield uncovers how the company has stood the test of time against its mega-giant rivals. Which may in fact be due to its tiny, yet remarkably distinctive, little Red Dot.
This red dot plays the main role in differing
Leica camera from other ones.
According to Leica’s 100 anniversary special
design, along with its packaging design, not to
mention Leica’s store design, it is obvious that the
Red Dot is a remarkably distinctive component in
representing Leica this legend brand.

Since early ages, Leica has already incoporate the red dot in its design, later on Red and Black became Leica’s brand identity through putting the Red Dot in a relatively Fixed Position. From 1980s, Leica started putting their logo, with a red rounded shape background, above the visual center lenses.
Old Time Luxury - LeatherLeica used to stand out based on its leather use. Few of the current products are still using this in a customizable way. Although the leather cover is still in the market, Leica has already started switching the use of this old luxurious hand-making process to a more modernized material use.
Current Luxury - Advanced MaterialSince middle 20 centry, Leica started discovering different metal/ paint/ texture replacing the previous leather design. The latest material uses are more reflecting and matte look than the
previous ones. Not just because Leica wants to focus on animal-friendly movement, but also the use of modern experience motif that Leica want to deliver to their customers.
