Lokasi penelitian termasuk dalam kawasan ijin usaha tambang PT.

Indominco Mandiri daerah Suka Rahmat, Kecamatan Teluk Pandan, Kabupaten

Kutai Timur, Proinsi Kalimantan Timur. Secara geogra!is daerah telitian terletak 

 pada koordinat "#$"%" m& ' "(("%" m& dan )(%%% m& ' )$%%% m& *TM +S

-( ona "%&.

Secara emor!ologi daerah penelitian dibagi atas satu bentuk asal /aitu bentuk asal struktural, kemudian dibagi menjadi bentuk lahan berupa perbukitan

homoklin 0S1)2 dan lembah homoklin 0S112. Pola pengaliran /ang berkembang pada

daerah telitian /aitu directional trellis, merupakan ubahan dari pola dasar trellis

karena pengaruh dari struktur lipatan. 3aerah telitian berada pada sa/ap lipatan

Runtu Sinklin.

Stratigra!i daerah telitian dibagi menjadi empat satuan, urutan satuan batuan

dari /ang paling tua adalah satuan batupasir Pulaubalang 0Miosen 4wal ' Miosen

Tengah2, satuan batulempung 5alikpapan 0Miosen Tengah ' Miosen 4khir2, satuan

 batugamping 5alikpapan 0Miosen 4khir2, dan satuan endapan aluial 06olosen2.

Lapisan pembawa batubara berada pada satuan batupasir Pulaubalang dan saatuan

 batulempung 5alikpapan.

Struktur geologi /ang berkembang adalah sesar mendatar kanan berarah

Timur Laut ' 5arat 3a/a. 3an kekar dengan arah umum 5arat Laut ' Tenggara.

5erdasarkan analisis dengan metode SMR dan perhitungan !aktor keamanan

dengan metode 5ishop simplified , maka direkomendasikan lereng tambang terbuka

dengan kemiringan sudut lereng keseluruhan (overall slope)  7%8. Lereng /ang

direkomendasikan pada lereng tunggal 0 single slope2 memiliki lebar jenjang ( meter 

dengan tinggi lereng $," meter dan sudut tiap lereng tunggal 9%8. Target dari seam

 batubara /ang akan ditambang /aitu seam :9 pada satuan batulempung 5alikpapan.

Litologi lereng didominasi oleh meterial lempung, untuk itu perlu dilakukan

analisis si!at kimia dari batulempung ini. Tujuann/a untuk mengetahui jenis minerallempung /ang terkandung dalam lereng tersebut, karena pada mineral lempung

tertentu akan mempengaruhi stabilitas dari lereng tambang. Perlu dilakukan

 pemboran geologi teknik pada lokasi lain /ang memiliki target seam batubara /ang

sama untuk mendapatkan hasil geometri lereng /ang lebih representati!.
