Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce Newsletter August 2010

From The Desk Of The PresidentIt is indeed my pleasure and privilege to serve as your Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce Board President for 2010. If you read the article in the LO Review, my term started June 15, right as our Past President Dr. Dale Rhoney left for Germany to manage a clinic for the Army base in Ansbach.

The article title, “Jim Franceus Raring to Go as New Chamber President” embodies two different things in my mind. First of all I believe we have an amazing organization, focused on providing value to you our members, staffed by four (4) great employees, Jerry, Lori, Sandra and Sean, and backed by a “working board” of twenty-four (24) business and community leaders.

Secondly, I am raring to go, because the tasks of leadership are both challenging and exciting. Whether it is the economic development of our wonderful community, or being a resource in helping you more successfully market your business, the responsibilities of leadership require time, passion, and commitment.

And I am passionate about what we we’re doing. I’m sure that by now you’ve been introduced to EVAN, an acronym for Education, Visibility, Advocacy and Networking.

• We provide educational opportunities, such as Leadership Lake Oswego and the FORGE Summit and monthly luncheon series to make you and your business better.

• As “the face of business” in Lake Oswego we are visible to our community, with a new, friendly website, and tremendous events that give you sponsorship opportunities.

• Being the “face of business”, the City looks to us as the “voice of business” to address your concerns. Corporately we are a strong voice for economic development and that’s good for every business. Our door is always open to advocate in your behalf.

• We provide many activities and forums that give you and your business opportunities to build relationships, promote who you are, and what your business does for others. Friday Morning Networking, Business after Hours (BAH’s) and “Lunch with the Chamber” are examples.

I want to share with you my goals for the coming fi scal year. We are only as strong as our membership, and the more strong members we have, the stronger our ability to serve and the stronger the voice we’ll have.

My top goal is to return our membership roles back to where they were before the “great recession” began. The goal is 700 members by the end of our next fi scal year, 9/30/11. As of

June/July Calendar of Events

City/Chamber PartnerWith BusinessesTo Create Summer PromotionPart of the new economic development strategy for Lake Oswego was the creation and implementation of a 3 year marketing plan. To that end the marketing fi rm Finksinc. was hired to create the plan and to help the community implement it.

Originally scheduled to unveil in a holiday promotion, a stroke of good luck has allowed Lake Oswego to take advantage of an opportunity to partner with KGW & KINK Radio to drive visitors to Lake Oswego through the month of August.

Literally at the last minute $40,000 was raised between the City, the Chamber & Clackamas County Tourism, The Bank of Oswego, Prudential Northwest Properties and Lakeview Village. This investment has returned to the community over $100,000 worth of TV and radio advertising about Lake Oswego and its retail community. The ads drive traffi c to the KINK website where visitors fi nd out about the availability of the new KINK CD in selected retail outlets in LO. These businesses in turn are offering special promotions to take advantage of the increased traffi c.

The promotion is a win-win for Lake Oswego and its business community and is one more way the Chamber is providing value to its members and to the community. The ads were previewed at a VIP event for the sponsors, task force members, the City and additional dignitaries.

this moment we are very close to 600. We have embarked on a wonderful “Summer of Love” campaign giving discounts to new members. Let others know of this great opportunity to join at a discount. And we’re thanking our loyal current membership, too, by giving up to $100 in “chamber bucks” to spend on Chamber events and sponsorships. (Be watching for those at membership renewal time.)

took the invitation to become an Ambassador. I have come to the point where I wanted to be more involved and to contribute more.

I have now been an Ambassador for about two months. This is not enough time to become fully aware of all the services an Ambassador can, and should provide, but the foundation has been laid, and I have started down a rewarding pathway to helping an outstanding organization. So far I enjoy everything that I have seen and experienced. There is much involved in this position. I think, though, that if a person is a true believer, and supporter, the duties become obvious, because everything is dedicated to making the inner workings of the organization positive. I think the thing I enjoy in this position is meeting and greeting of all the members at meetings, and functions, but especially those who are new and need to know what this group does and how well it does it. New people need to understand the main function of the group is to encourage local businesses, therefore, bringing together the businesses and people of Lake Oswego, all for the betterment of everyone.

I hope I can be successful in performing the duties of the position of Ambassador. I think it will be easy, because I am a believer in the organization and what it stands for. GO LO Chamber!!

ALL DIRECTORY DISPLAY ADVERTISERS WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING:

The Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce is again partnering with the Lake Oswego Review to create Lake Oswego’s most complete and targeted business directories. These directories will be available in print and online enabling Oswegan’s to find the most comprehensive list of local businesses to trade with. To help local businesses get the most for their advertising dollars, the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Oswego Review have agreedto keep advertising rates the same as last year. The added benefit is that now display advertisers will also receive even more for their money with enhanced listings and in some cases, additional web ads running on either the online business directory site or on lakeoswegoreview.com.

Constant Exposure – MARKET-ING YOUR BUSINESS 24/7! Lakeoswegoreview.com is Lake Oswego’s most popular local news website with over 2,000 sessions per day. The site is updated daily with local Lake Oswego news and events. The site also benefits from the constant exposure thru the Lake Oswego Review and its ability to continuously market the website. This is an advantage that no other local website can compete with.

• Priority sorting above all regular directory listings on the Lake Oswego Review’s online business directory • Highlighted background behind web listing, including company logo, link to your website and email address
