E I’ve never had any experience with aUFO, but I know a person who has seenthem.
My friend Graham has an interesting story. He was walking home with three other boyswhen they heard a strange whistling noise inthe sky. They didn’t know what it was, but itgot louder and louder and they all suddenlyfelt frightened. The noise seemed to stopwhen it was over their heads. It was very quietand they had the feeling that there was adark shape just above them. Then thewhistling started again, and it slowly movedaway. Graham said it was a really weirdexperience.
I woke up late one night and found that astrange green light was shining in my room. When I looked through the window I saw asmall figure in the garden. Its eyes and earswere very large, but it didn’t have a nose or amouth and its arms were longer than its legs.It moved quickly across the garden anddisappeared. My parents say it was a dream, but I know it was real.
These are things that people have eitherimagined or invented. Some people believe thatthey’ve seen a UFO, but there’s nothing tosupport their stories. Other people tell lies –it’s a way of making money. They know they cansell their stories to newspapers andmagazines, because their readers love amystery and want to believe these silly stories.

Usually scientists can explain the shapes andlights that people see in the sky – they may bemeteorites, clouds, aeroplanes or weatherballoons. However, it’s impossible to find ananswer for things that some people havereported – for example, professional pilots andastronauts who have followed unknown objectstravelling at amazing speeds. It’s possible thatthere’s life on other planets – I don’t know.
Two years ago I was driving in the countrysidewith my mum late at night. We saw three verybright lights in the sky and they seemed tofollow the car for a few kilometres. When westopped, the lights went past us and thenthey disappeared. Since then we haven’t seenanything unusual on that road. I don’t knowwhat the lights were, but they were strange, and I’m sure they weren’t aeroplanes.

Dear Rita
Our teachers have organized a winter camp in the
mountains this year and most students in my class are
going. We’re going to learn skiing and snowboarding
and I think it will be fantastic. I’ve already been to
two school camps and they were really good.
But I’m feeling bad because my best friend Simon
can’t come. He’s never been to a school camp, and I
know he’d love to come this year, but his parents
haven’t got enough money to pay for it. If I had more
money, I’d lend him some, but that’s impossible. I’ve
told Simon that he should talk to the teachers about
the problem, but he’s too embarrassed. I know he’s
unhappy. Is there anything I can do to help? Please
give me some advice.
Yours,
Sam
Dear Sam
I think you should have a quiet talk with
the teacher who is organizing the camp.
The school may have money to help people
like Simon. So, he might not have to pay
for the whole cost of the camp. I’m sure
the school will help if they can, but
unless someone tells them about the
problem, nothing will be done.
Best wishes,
Rita
Dear RitaWe’ve had a lot of trouble in our localarea recently. A few weeks ago thesupermarket was robbed and the thievesescaped with a lot of money. They alsobroke into the school and took three ofthe computers that we use in class. LastFriday they stole some money from thecinema, and a man was hurt when hetried to stop them.I’m sure I know who the thieves are. Iwas walking past the cinema on Fridayand I recognized two men who ran outand drove away in a car. Now I don’tknow what to do. Maybe I should tellthe police, but they might not believeme, and I don’t really want to get intotrouble. What should I do?Jenny
Dear Jenny
I can understand why you feel nervous, but
you really have to tell someone about these
people. Talk to your mother and father –
they can phone the police and give them
the information. If the police want to
interview you, they will send someone to
your house, and it won’t take long. The
police won’t catch these thieves unless
other people help and tell the truth.
Best wishes
Rita
