A new outdoor classroom atPirongia Forest Park Lodge wasopened recently — a project thatmight never have got off theground had it not been for thecombination of some bramblesneeding to be dealt with and avision born out of the newlycreated cleared space.
The event was a chance tothank all of the amazing peoplewho had been involved with theproject and an opportunity tocelebrate a wonderful resourcefor the lodge that was designed, built and planted by people fromour local communities.
The story began about fiveyears ago when John McFallcleared the ground of bramblesand created a cleared area muchlarger than expected.
Dean Parr then had the visionof turning this amphitheatreshaped space into an outdoorclassroom and envisaged anarea with tables and seats thatcould be an area of learning.
“All I could see was mud andbrambles,” said Pirongia ForestPark Lodge warden Kate Parr inher speech to gathered guests atthe opening.
The Pirongia Forest ParkLodge committee were happy togo ahead with the idea andFonterra Grass Roots Fund waskeen to support the project.
Students from the WintecLandscape design Programmewere invited to submit designsand Pirongia and Te Pahuschools were approached to seeif they were interested in a jointcommunity project.
The school students wouldget to choose one of the Wintecstudent’s designs and then helprun their own fundraising pro-ject by writing to businesses andfamilies to ask for plantdonations.
With generous funding fromFonterra Grass Roots, JohnMcFall and a team of committeemembers started construction.
Over a period of time a seriesof planning and planting dateswere held where both schoolclasses met at the lodge groundsand worked together clearingareas and planting the donationsthat they had received.
With the installation of atable this year the classroom hasbeen completed and the plantsthat were tiny seedlings andsaplings are now firmly estab-lished.
“The classroom has already
been used over the last year,”explained Ms Parr.
“And with the help of AlanReilly, formerly educationfacilitator from the Te AwamutuMuseum, along with CatherineKirby and Robyn Irving from TeKauri-Waikuku Trust we havecome up with some of the manyprogrammes that we are nowdelivering from the classroom.”
Waipa District Mayor, JimMylchreest officially opened theoutdoor classroom while repre-
sentatives from Fonterra GrassRoots Fund, the Lodge Commit-tee, Waipa District Council andlocal participating schools werein attendance.
Zeta Hittmann, year eightstudent from Pirongia Schooland Laura Tosse, year eightstudent from Te Pahu Schoolrepresented their schools byholding the ribbon for MrMylchreest to cut.

Big Fling for art talent
TC201015SP01AMEMBERS of Kawhia Art Group working at the Te Puti Studio.
Kawhia artists will emerge fromtheir studios this weekend to con-verge at the seaside town of Kawhiawhere their artistic endeavours willbe on display during the annualSpring Fling Art Festival.
Originally the popular festivalwas an initiative by the Kawhia ArtGroup to promote works by Te PutiArt Studio students but this has nowexpanded to include other localartists, or those with strong ties tothe area.
All artwork will be on display inthe Kawhia Community Hall withthe majority available for purchase.
New Zealand artist Dr CaroleShepheard, and former Professor ofFine Arts at the University ofAuckland, runs Te Puti Art Studioand has been involved with thefestival since its inception. Theevent is now in its eighth year.
“For the first few years, art wasshown in local shops and businessesand while a good way to integrateart and retail, it quickly outgrewavailable spaces and a decision wasmade to use the Community Hall todisplay the diverse range of work,”she says.
“Each year there has been achildren’s art competition with afocus for the past three years beingphotographic. This has become awonderful record of life in Kawhiaseen through the eyes of ouryoungsters.”
Artist and festival committeemember Hinga Whiu says the popu-lar event will showcase a variety ofartistic mediums.
“From prints to paintings totextiles — whatever you can thinkof,” she says.
“The hall will be full of art for
sale. It’s an opportunity for us tocome together and display the workswe have been creating behind closeddoors for the year.”
Mrs Whiu uses flax paper for heracrylic paintings and prints.
“I’m inspired by Maori designs,”she says.
“It has to be something that I canrelate to and because I am Maori, thedesigns are my passion.”
Artists have decorated drinkscoasters to be sold during the eventwith proceeds assisting local chil-dren in the community to attend anarts and culture week in Te Puti ArtStudio in late January 2016.
Members from the KawhiaKarving Group will be demonstrat-ing carving techniques alongside thehall, with some pieces on display inthe exhibition and available for sale.
The event will be officiallylaunched on Friday 23 October witha private function and formallyopened by Te Kuiti lawyer RussellThomson and Otorohanga MayorMax Baxter.

Kapa haka a family way of life
TC201015SP01BHAUTURU School Kapa Haka at an event earlier this year. They aretaking part in this Saturday’s Kawhia Tangata Super 12 Kapa Haka.
For Kawhia couple Hinga andLloyd Whiu, kapa haka is theirpassion. It is also a passion that sawtheir eight children grow up onstage as the family travelled NewZealand, Hawai’i and Canada for 18years performing kapa haka inschools to promote smoke free life-styles for youth.
Now settled in Kawhia, thecouple are launching KawhiaTangata Super 12 Kapa Haka, a kapahaka competition for primary andintermediate students during theannual Kawhia Spring Fling ArtFestival.
Supported by the Kaiewe MaoriWomen’s Welfare League andKawhia Tourism Trust, the competi-tion will be held at Omiti ParkReserve with each group performingfor 12 minutes. Between each per-formance local singers will entertainthe crowds, and food stalls will beavailable. Mrs Whiu said the eventcombines her passion and skills.“Being able to encourage whanauand provide an opportunity fortalented youth to perform is special.Lloyd and I want to share our skillsand experiences performing across
New Zealand.“For some youth it’s a struggle to
get on stage and I want this event togive them confidence before anaudience. It’s difficult for someschools to get kapa haka tutors so Ihope this is an outlet for localtalented youth.”
Even though their children won’tbe under the stage lights themselveson the day, they have all been
allocated tasks to help out.“It’s great to keep the family
involved,” Mrs Whiu says. “Lloydand I are passionate about kapahaka but the bigger picture isalways that people participate.”

Maniapoto hui to address future of tribeManiapoto launches a nationwide consultation at the
end of the month to seek input from iwi members intothe future direction of the King Country-based tribe.
Maniapoto chairman Tiwha Bell said the consulta-tion — one of the largest ever undertaken by theManiapoto Maori Trust Board — was timely followingelections to the 15-member board in June.
“The new board understands how important it is tomeet with our Maniapoto Taurahere ropu from acrossthe country to seek their input into Maniapoto 2050 —our comprehensive communications and iwi engage-ment process which will guide our focus in the yearsahead.”
Maniapoto deputy chairman Keith Ikin said theconsultation will involve 10 Hui-a-iwi — five within theManiapoto rohe and five at other major centresthroughout Aotearoa where large numbers of Mania-poto iwi live.
Mr Ikin said the board wanted to meet with as manyiwi members as possible to help ensure the direction andfocus of the board aligned with the aspirations and needs
of all Maniapoto people.“The board understand the importance of hearing the
voices and needs of our people throughout the motu.We will ask our people: What would whanau, hapu,
iwi like Maniapoto to look like in 50 years’ time? What dowe need to do as an iwi to achieve this vision? What are iwiexpectations from a Treaty settlement for Maniapoto andhow do iwi think this could be achieved?
Maniapoto is one of the country’s largest iwi: 35,358affiliating to the iwi in the 2013 census from 148 hapu and57 marae. 90 per cent of tribal members live outsideManiapoto rohe.
Mr Ikin said it was important as many iwi membersas possible attend the hui, October 30 to December 6 inAuckland, Hamilton, Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, Taumaru-nui, Rereahu, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch.
“Maniapoto have made good progress in recentyears. We want to increase this momentum andcontinue to improve how we engage and operate, toensure we are best placed to meet the social, cultural andeconomic aspirations of our people.”

High-speed broadband onradar for rural communities
BARBARAKURIGER
Almost all Taranaki-King Countryresidents will have access to high-speed broadband within a decade aspart of the Government’s vision toboost rural connectivity.
Taranaki-King Country’s ruralcommunities will be the big winnersunder the new targets, which mark aten-fold increase on peak RuralBroadband Initiative speeds of 5Mbps.
By 2025 the Government aims tohave 99 per cent of New Zealandersable to access broadband at speeds ofat least 50 Mbps — up from 5 Mbpsunder RBI — and the remaining 1 percent able to access at least 10 Mbps (upfrom previously non-existent or dial-up speeds).
“These new targets will level out
the playing fieldwhen it comes torural broadbandconnections,” saysT a r a n a k i - K i n gCountry MP Bar-bara Kuriger.
“ O v e r t i m ethere’s been a dif-f e r e n c e i n t h econnections avail-able in town, andwhat’s availablefurther out of town.
That’s about to change significantly.“Conducting farm business online,
using cloud accounting software, andtracking stock movements using theNational Animal Identification andTracing (NAIT) scheme are just a few
things that will become far easierwith faster, more reliable internetconnections.
“We’ve made great strides in im-proving rural connectivity under theRBI and 4G networks, and it’s clearTaranaki-King Country is keen forfaster rural broadband,” says MrsKuriger.
The 2025 rural broadband targetsalign with the Government’s two-pronged approach to boostingeconomic growth across regional NewZealand through the Business GrowthAgenda and Regional Growth Pro-gramme.
The Government provided $360million in Budget 2015 to extend UFB(Ultra-Fast Broadband) and RBI, andto establish a Mobile Black Spot Fund.
Elderly missing out on power savingsOlder people in the com-
munity may be missing outon significant savings andpaying too much for theirpower without realising it –even though it is very simpleto change power companiesand benefit from those sav-ings.
Research shows thatpeople over the age of 60 arethe least likely to switchelectricity providers whileother consumers are shop-ping around and picking upcheaper deals.
If all eligible Kiwihouseholds had switched tothe cheaper deal last year,
they could have collectivelysaved $281 million or an aver-age annual saving of $162.
These are significantpotential savings and it’s im-portant that our older citizensare not missing out.
If you don’t have access tothe internet then you can goto the Citizen’s AdviceBureau in the Ray WhiteArcade in Te Awamutu andtrained staff will assist you infinding the best deal and helpyou switch over.
If you can use a computerthen you are encouraged to goto the What’s My Numberwebsite, where you can check
if you are on the best electric-ity deal, or you can call yoursupplier who will look intoyour plan for you.
Myths around changingpower companies:■ It’s too hard to switch – itcan be easily done online ordone with a phone call to yourexisting provider.■ The provider is unfamiliarto me so they might not be asgood – the electricity retailermakes no difference to thereliability of electricitysupply.■ My power might be cut offwhen I change – the newretailer takes of the switching
process.■ The payment terms will bethe same – many differentelectricity retailers offer dif-ferent payment options tomake it easier.■ They are all the same, sowhy bother checking – thereare 29 retail brands in NZ andall providers offer differentdeals.

Boat safety a mustfor long weekend
It is Safer Boating Weekand boaties are beingurged to maintain a tightfocus on safety ahead of thetraditionally busy LabourWeekend on the Waikatoregion’s waterways and offthe coast.
“If you’re heading outon the water over LabourWeekend or planning touse your boat over sum-mer, it’s important to staysafe,” says Waikato Re-gional Council’s maritimeservices team leader Rich-ard Barnett.
“Good communicationsare particularly import-ant,” says Mr Barnett.
“You need to be able tocontact someone quickly ifyou are in trouble.”
Mr Barnett reminds
skippers that they are re-sponsible for every lifeaboard the boat and musttake that responsibilityseriously and ensure thateveryone gets home safely.“Going easy on alcohol isparticularly important forskippers.”
Mr Barnett says thatcouncil harbourmasterswould be out and abouthelping to keep people safeover summer.
Top tips for making ithome safe are:■ make sure the marineweather and tide are goingto be good before headingout — that information isavailable atwww.metservice.com■ check your equipmentbefore heading out.
■ wear a correctly sizedlifejacket — if using aninflatable, check canistersand that the bladder is notpunctured (seeyoutube.com/boatsafetyinnz for adviceon how to do this).■ know all relevant boat-ing rules (www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/navigation).■ carry two forms of water-proof communicationsthat are right for the areaand which can be used tocontact someone duringthe entire trip.■ let someone else knowwhere you’re heading andwhat time you are expectedback.■ skippers should avoidalcohol.
Bar crossing is high risk
TC201015SP08ARAGLAN Bar.
Bar crossings can be veryhazardous, even for the mostexperienced of boaties andthe incredibly sad deaths onbars this past year are anavoidable reminder that barcrossings should only everbe tackled with the rightattitude, equipment, andknowledge.
With bar crossings con-tinuing to be one of thebiggest risk issues forboaties in the Waikato, theWaikato Regional Council’smaritime team is supportingthe upcoming round ofCoastguard bar crossingsafety courses in Raglan andKawhia next month.
The Raglan course is onSunday, November 1 and theKawhia course is onSunday, November 15.
“Raglan and Kawhia arewest coast bars with bad
reputations for a reason,”says Waikato RegionalCouncil maritime serviceteam leader, RichardBarnett.
“They can be very diffi-cult and if not done properlycan lead to capsizing andpossible fatalities andinjuries,” he says.
“We urge boatiesintending to cross these barsto join in on one of the bareducation days being offeredby Coastguard — the timeinvested could equate to alife saved,” explains MrBarnett.
Those interested in theRaglan course, which willrun from 8.30am at the Rag-lan Bowling Club shouldcontact Brigid [email protected] or 07 825 8089.
The fee is $30 for thoseregistered or $35 on the dayand a lifejacket is requiredas there will be a trip out tothe bar.

Yoga your way to positive healthBY DEAN TAYLOR
TC201015DT03YOGA & Co owner Rhonda Maughan (right) and her team (from left) Di Johnson, Linda Clarkeand Erin Fairgray.
Yoga & Co is the new busi-ness that offers anyone frombeginners to experiencedpractitioners the opportunity toparticipate in the self-healing,self-realisation powers of yoga.
Business owner is RhondaMaughan who was raised in thedistrict and has lived here mostof her life.
For 25 years she was part ofthe fitness industry — owningwomen’s health and fitnesscentres in Hamilton and thenmoving to Auckland to managea chain of fitness centres.
She was introduced to yoga17 years ago.
She was at Pukeatua at thetime and organised an instruc-tor to come to take a class atArapuni Hall — and washooked. She found she could getthe same feeling from a yogasession as a fitness session —but it also offered more.
Ms Maughan says she startedto study the theory and philos-ophy of yoga and it changed herlife.
She is a Reiki Master, motivational speaker, HolisticLife Coach (Ms Maughan is alsoavailable for life coaching fromthe studio) and studied andqualified as a Yoga Teacher atSatyananda Ashram New Zea-land.
She believes the time wasright to open a studio now she isback home, via a stint in Raglan.
Through her Positive EnergyPhilosophy she helps others steptowards realising their full lifepotential.
This empowers them to live
their lives with wellness in theirmind, body and spirit, leadingthem towards living a life of trueliberation of self.
Ms Maughan’s own life storyof repeating self-destructivethoughts lead her to a choice tobecome conscious which haschanged the course of her life.
This marked the beginning ofan intense inward journeywhich has led her down the pathof self-inquiry, self-acceptance,self-realisation and self-love.
“What we believe about our-selves becomes the truth for us,”she says.
“The challenge is that sooften we are unconscious of ourthoughts, where they began, andthe impact they are having onour lives, that we continue to
repeat the patterns, remainingoften in a state of chaos.”
She says something has tochange — and yoga helps thatprocess.
A number of different classesoperate, and last month she rana series of classes for beginnersto introduce them to the art.
She plans to run more begin-ner classes as demand dictatesand is also looking at suchoptions at seniors classes andyoga for expectant mothers.
Support and feedback hasbeen very positive with classnumbers growing weekly.
Ms Maughan says her clientssay after a session they ‘float outof the studio.’
Joining her are yogainstructors Linda Clarke and
Erin Fairgray, and Di Johnson, who practices shiatsu — basedon the time-honoured Orientalmedical understanding that ourphysiological and psychologicalstructures are supported andaffected by meridians, channelsof living magnetic energy.
A shiatsu practitioner canimprove the energy flowingthrough the meridians toimprove our general health andwellbeing and is a combinationof massage techniques and pass-ive stretching, which is anincredibly relaxing experience.

Amazing lawnsCreating a stadium-calibre lawn doesn’t have to
take a lot of time, money or effort. This summerfollow these simple steps and tend to your
ural turf in the morning and evening to create a yardis championship calibre.
RAKE — Raking a lawn removes dead grass ander debris, allowing you to control thatch and seee or worn areas that need attention. It also permits
w, young grass to grow more easily and increasescontact when seeding.EST YOUR SOIL — Good soil is one of theentials of a healthy lawn. A soil test is simple andxpensive (do-it-yourself kits are available at localden centers) and it provides valuable informationut current pH levels. Simple amendments like limeulfur can be added to neutralise overly acidic or
aline soil and help grass thrive.AERATE — Older or heavily trafficked lawns can
er from soil compaction. A core aerator, with hollows, will pull small plugs of soil out of the ground, wing increased movement of water, nutrients andgen. Aeration can also increase the soil contact
h new seeds and promote new growth. You can rentaerator or hire a professional to do the work for you.EED — Early morning or evening summer hoursr cooler, optimal conditions for establishing newns or repairing thin or bare patches in existingns. Turf specialists at a garden store or local
university extension office can help select the rightseed for your area and usage. They can also point youtoward the seed closest to your existing grass orsuggest alternatives for problem areas. After theseeding is finished, water lightly but regularly, keepingthe reseeded areas damp until the new grass grows in.■ CONTROL WEEDS — Healthy lawns essentiallycontrol weeds by squeezing them out. However, ifweeds herbicides may help. Consult a gardenspecialist about which herbicide is right for your lawnand how to use it. Applying a pre-emergent herbicide inthe spring before weed grass emerges can reduceproblems down the line. If you’ve applied seed, keep inmind that herbicides can kill it, so use a product that willnot affect new growth. For dandelions, digging them upis often effective, but a broadleaf herbicide may beapplied.■ MAINTAIN THE MOWER — Make sure your moweris in optimal condition with a lawn mower tune-up.Annual service should keep it running smoothly andshould include changing the oil, changing the sparkplug, swapping out or cleaning the air filter, andsharpening the blade. Most lawns are ready for cuttingwhen the grass reaches about 8cm in height, althoughnewly seeded or recently overseeded lawns should bemowed closer to 5cm until the grass is established.Mow with a frequency that allows for cutting less thanone-third the height of the grass.

In season now: Beautiful basilFresh herbs are an excellent way to add flavour,
aroma and colour to your cooking. What’s more,
they grow easily and don’t take up a lot of space.
One of our favourites during summer is basil. For
easy access, try small pots positioned on the deck, or
even along the kitchen windowsill. Herbs produce
better if they are trimmed regularly, so prune away
to create a healthier and bushier plant.
In season now: Tasty tomatoesLabour weekend is the common time to start
getting your tomato plants in the ground. Plant your
tomatoes in a sunny spot and remember to stake
the plants when you plant them to avoid disturbing
the established roots in the future. We have a
huge variety in store including traditional cherry
tomatoes, the enormous beef steak tomato and
tumbling toms – perfect for hanging baskets and
wall pockets.
Enjoy spring in your gardenfrom the team at Palmers Hamilton.
Labour weekend is the perfect time to get stuck
into your garden, the weather is warm enough to
start planting your summer veges such as tomatoes,
cucumbers, capsicums and herbs. Many vegetables
have short growing times, and can be planted and
harvested in only a few short weeks so the salad and
fruit bowl should be brimming by Christmas.
Happy harvestFor continuous harvesting throughout the summer
months, sow your edibles at two or three week
intervals. Seedlings of tender vegetables can be
planted directly into your garden beds. Prepare the
soil by digging in generous amounts of compost and
add Palmers General Garden Fertiliser. Then sow
your favourites – like beans, peas, carrots, courgettes,
beetroot, cucumbers, peppers, spring onion,
sweetcorn and tomatoes. For herbs, try oregano, sage,
basil, mint, rosemary and thyme. Water your edibles
regularly to help plants beat the heat, but avoid soggy
soil, which can cause plant diseases.
Lush lettucesLettuces or spinach are easy to plant in pre-prepared
garden beds, or a range of containers - ready for
abundant summer salads. They are one of the few
vegetables that are happiest when not placed in full
sun so in hot weather make sure they get a bit of
shade throughout the day. If you are going camping

Bradley proves himself a gun shooter
TC201015SP15ASHARP shooter Bradley Parrott with his medals and the Fish &Game ‘highest overall’ individual boys’ trophy from the NewZealand Secondary Schools’ Clay Target Championships inHamilton.
TC201015SP15BNATIONAL Secondary Schools’ single rise champion JeremySchinkel.
BY COLIN THORSEN
Pirongia Gun Club shooterBradley Parrott rates his NewZealand Secondary Schools ClayTarget victory alongside hissecond place in section C of lastyear’s world championships.
The 17-year-old was the star ofthe show in Hamilton, taking outthe ‘highest overall in New Zea-land’ title with his first perfectscore.
He upstaged a field of 315entrants, shooting a perfect 90/90score over the three disciplines —single rise, single barrel andpoints score.
There were 20 points on offerin the single rise, 60 for pointsscore and 10 for single barrel.
To achieve the maximumscore under the pressure of anational secondary schools cham-pionship was a remarkable feat.
For the single rise, Parrott wasconfronted by one target beingreleased at a time and an allow-able two shots to bring it down.
This was followed by pointsscore, where he again had onetarget and two shots permissible(extra point for bringing it downfirst time) and single barrel, where he got one shot to bringdown one target.
Parrott collected a secondnational title as a member of thevictorious five-man HamiltonBoys High School team, whichwon the points score event with283 out of 300.
The team comprised Parrott, fellow Pirongia Gun Club mem-ber Jeremy Schinkel, AlexHoran, Jamie Baker and BlakeMurray.
Schinkel also took out thesingle barrel title, winning theshoot-off after being one of sev-eral competitors to nail 20/20.
A day earlier, Parrott andSchinkel excelled at the NorthIsland secondary schools’ cham-pionships, also held at the Wai-kato Clay Target Club in Hamil-ton.
Parrott clinched the single risetitle by winning a shoot-offinvolving 30 competitors.Schinkel also won a shoot -off toclaim the single barrel crown.
Parrott has been competingfour years and has developed atried-and-true routine to shootingand a strategy for staying calmwhen things aren’t going to plan.
“For me, it’s just a case ofevery target’s a new target, so ifyou miss one, you’ve just got toforget about it and shoot the nextone. Occasionally it gets a littleannoying when I go through apatch where I miss one or two in arow. That’s when I tell myself tostop, refocus and go through theprocess again, and start breakingthem.”
Parrott made the North IslandSecondary Schools team for theannual shoot-off against theSouth Island, and wasselected forthe Auckland/Waikato regionalschools team to compete againstother regions from throughoutNew Zealand. Schinkel was also
selected.Auckland/Waikato finished
runners-up to one of the South
Island regional teams, while thesouth pipped the north in theinter-Island challenge.

Teen racerriding high
TC201015CT01RISING STAR: Burnie McGrath, young Te Awamutu Sportscyclist with bright future.
BY COLIN THORSEN
Te Awamutu Sports’Burnie McGrath is making ameteoric rise up the peckingorder in New Zealand cycling.
The 15-year-old riderspearheaded his HamiltonBoys’ High School team-matesTimmy Ng, Kiaan Watts andNoah Coster to victory in theUnder-16 team time trial at theNew Zealand SecondarySchools road championshipsat Manfield.
Their record time of23.19.46 was 19 seconds fasterthan second place and threeseconds quicker than the oldrecord.
McGrath collected asecond medal, finishing thirdin the U16 boys’ individualcriterium.
He attacked two laps intothe eight-lap race and wascaught (two laps later on thestraight) by just the one riderin the opening sprint, bankingthree points. He elected not tocontest the next sprint inorder to competitively con-tend the last lap. It paid off —he placed second to finishwith a total of six points andclaim third place overall.
The following day’s roadrace came down to a massbunch sprint, with McGrathplacing eighth.
A month earlier, McGrathexcelled at the New ZealandSchools individual cycling
championships at Mt Welling-ton, claiming gold in the U16boys’ time trial, bronze in thecriterium and silver forplacing second overall. Hewas eighth in the hill climb.
On the club scene, theteenager has rocketed fromthe under-15 section of the TeAwamutu Sports’ SummerSeries, riding restricted gear-ing, to A grade in around 18months. He had three races inC grade before being pro-moted to B grade for both thewinter and summer series of2014-2015.
Last Tuesday night, hemade his A grade debut inweek one of the new FourSeason’s Mowers & CyclesSummer Series, gaining a top-10 placing by finishing in thebunch with a time of 36.39 forthe 26km.
He was up against riders ofthe calibre of Shem Roger,Olympian Marc Ryan andDylan Kennett, who were inthe New Zealand team pursuitline-up who won gold at thelast world championships.
McGrath’s club mentor/coach Graham Bunn says it isgood to see him progressingand persevering with training— “Burnie deserves all thesuccess that is coming hisway.”
The teen’s goal is to retainhis fitness for the nationalclub titles in Alexandra nextMarch.
