Safety Instructions

1.1Important Safety

Instructions

Important

• Before running the machine, makesure all relevant safety specifica-tions are adequate to specificationsand technical standards in yourcountry.

• The machine should not be runwithout its safety devices.

•The machine should only be oper-ated by properly trained personnel.

• For your safety, goggles must beused running the machine.

• Turn off or unplug the machinewhen the following situations arise:

• Passing the thread by the needleor replacing the bobbin or looper.

• Replacing the needle, presserfoot, throat plate, feed dog andsliding plate.

• When the machine is in mainte-nance.

• When the operator is not run-ning the machine.

• In case of lubricant oil contact withthe eyes or skin, washed the sur-face with plenty of icy water witha generous amount of cold water.In case of ingestion, seek medicalhelp immediately.

• Repair, fitting or maintenanceshould only be performed by prop-erly trained personnel.

• Maintenance and repair on electricequipment should only be madeby qualified personnel. If any elec-tric device is damaged, the machineshould be immediately stopped.

• Before starting the machine in fullrunning, a test must be conductedto assure that machine and opera-tor are able to perform the task.

•The machine should not be placednext to a sound source as an ultra-sonic welding machine and otherequipment.

• The machine should only be runwith the proper electric cable andconnectors, and also the adequategrounding.

•The machine should only be usedto sew materials as indicated in itsinstruction manual, and indicationsof use should be followed.

To avoid the risk of electric shock,do not open the motor wiring boxand do not touch the componentsassembled inside the wiring box.

To avoid injuries do not run themachine without the belt cover orin case any other safety device isremoved.

To avoid possible injuries keep finhead and clothes far from

wheel, belt and motor when the machine is running. Nothing should beplaced near those parts.

To avoid injuries never put yourfingers next to the rotating hookand the thread take-up lever coverwhen the machine is running.

To avoid possible injuries be careful when putting down or liftingthe machine head.

To avoid accident in case of a sudden start of the machine alwaysturn it off when laying it down, orremove the belt cover and the belt.

If you machine is equipped witha servomotor, it does not makenoises while being driven.To avoida possible accident caused by anunexpected start, be sure the machine is turned off.

To avoid electrical shock, do notrun the machine without propergrounding.

To minimize the risk of accidentsor damage in electric componentscaused by electric discharge turnthe machine off before unplugging it.

Clean the machine periodically.

Assemble the machine supportcomponents (and the cloth waste

chute for machine models 522D-3xx-09 and 522D-3xx-09E) as indicated in Figure 2.

Washer ‘9’ thickness should beselected according to the thicknessof the table.

Mount the machine head over therest board.

Connect the machine handwheel tothe clutch motor with the v-belt.

Adjust the tension of the v-belt sothat it can be about 20 mm bentinward when you press the middleofi t and make sure the motor turn-ing direction is clockwise, as shownon Figure 3

Install the belt cover according toFigure 4.

3.3Lubrication

and Oil Drainage

As this is a high speed machine, DO NOT

run it before filling the oil and making sure the correct turning

direction of the motor.

When the machine is operated for the first time or was idle for a long time, apply 2 or 3 oil drops as indi-cated in Figure 5

Fill the machine with appropriate lubricate oil (Singer Oil) by remov-ing the cap as indicated on Figure 6, until the oil level is between the marks of the oil level sight window.Add oil when the oil surface reaches or goes below the lower mark ‘L’.

Check if the oil is circulating prop-erly by observing the oil sight window, as shown on Figure 7.

Fill the device with silicone oil before it is too low in order to prevent needle thread breakage and fabric damage, as shown on Figure 8.

To preserve the machine, change the oil after the new machine has been operating over four weeks. After that, the oil should be changed every six months. To replace the oil, simply remove the screw indicated on Figure 9. After the oil is drained, reat-tach the screw and fill the machine with new oil.

This machine has an oil filter (Figure 10), which should be cleaned every month or replaced by a new one whenever is necessary.

Loosen screw indicated in Figure 11 with the Allen key wrench supplied in the accessory box and insert the needle (or remove the old needle).

Use only Singer’s Cat. 3651-06 needles

Insert the needle with its scarf turned to the rear of the machine and push it up deep into the needle hole until it stops. Then tighten screw.


3.5Machine

Threading

Open the eye guard and the cover.

Knot the preset and the new threadtogether to thread the machine.

Replace the looper thread take-upafter the machine threading.

Press down the lever, as indicatedin Figure 14.

3.6ThreadTension

Adjustment

The thread tension should be adjusted

according to the fabrictype and thickness,

sewing thread, seam width, stitch length and

others. Therefore the pressure of the tension

nuts or thread guides must be adjusted in

each individual case.

The following adjustments are relatedto Figure 24.

• Knobs 1: Control the needles thread

• Knob 2: Controls the top cover thread

• Knob 3: Controls the looper thread

Loosen adjust nut ‘1’ of Figure 25 and turn to adjust the presser foot pressure. It should be as light as

possible to be sufficient to obtain proper stitch formation.


3.8Differential FeedRate Adjustment

The differential feed ratio is the ra-tio of movements between the mainfeed dog and differential feed dog.When the movement of main feeddog is bigger than the differentialfeed dog, the fabric is stretched atsewing. Otherwise the fabric willshrink.

Loosen nut ‘1’ of Figure 26 andmove the lever ‘2’ up or down toobtain the correct differential ratio.Retighten the nut ‘1’.

3.9Stitch Length

Adjustment

Push and hold the button as indi-cated in Figure 27.

Match the desired stitch length according to the indication of the machine handwheel (Figure 28).
