If you have visited our website lately, you will see a thermometer with a goal of $200,000.00 to raise. The purpose of this goal is to update our outdated playground.

The updates would include removing some of the pea gravel, old equipment pieces that do not function properly and replaced with age-appropriate playground systems for students. The playground update would include:

● A shaded area.● All-weather flooring in a section.● 2-5 playground equipment.● 5-12 playground equipment with

interactive pieces throughout the playground.

The pictures to the right are the inspired playground goal. If you know of a grant or any company that loves to help out by giving donations, please send me an email, and I will contact them or fill out the grant!-Mrs. Rice

Let’s Play OutsidePlaying in the great outdoors allows your child to use their large muscles and exercise, their

balance skills. It gives their brain practice coordinating messages from different sources – muscles, senses, and balance. Another benefit is the stress relief that comes from just being in nature.

Let them observechildren need to find, touch, see, and

hear things for themselves. It is tempting to jump in and give the all the answers, but then they won’t learn to figure out

things for themselves.

Take your timeYour child has a lot of information from

their senses to process.Allow for unlimited, unstructured play while outside.

Let your child take the lead let them decide on the rules, within the bounds of safety. This helps them develop self-esteem

and self-image.

Basic Homemade Bubbles Recipe:1 Cup water1 Tablespoon dishwashing liquid. How to make bubbles: Combine the water and dishwashing liquid in a cup, bottle or dish. Stir gently and thoroughly to combine. Dip your bubble wand and get started

Outdoor Treasure Hunt - Begin by putting a piece of wide tape sticky side out around your child’s wrist. As objects are found you can stick them to the tape to make a nature bracelet.

Bubbles make everything better…

● Catch them, clap them, stomp them● “Can you catch them on your hand, your

head, your elbow?”● Make your own bubble wand using pipe

cleaners, cookie cutters, whatever you find around the house. “Which worked the best?”

● Dip your hands in the solution and see how many bubbles you can catch.

● Who can blow the biggest bubbles?

MATHMr. Power

Hello from Social Studies! It is unbelievable that this year is just about done. I have really enjoyed spending time with all of the junior high folk and experiencing the perspectives and thoughts on their history and the world around them.

Fifth grade is getting close to the end of their study of WW2. They have really enjoyed learning more about this time in history and it has been so fun seeing them get excited. We’ll continue on our look at American History with a stop in the fifties before moving on to the Civil Rights movements in the 1960s.

Sixth grade is continuing their journey through the Ancient World. They wrapped up Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. We had a lot of good discussions about how we can see connections between these civilizations and ours today. The sixth graders are just beginning ancient West Africa before moving across the ocean to South America.

Seventh grade is just getting into their look at the Constitution and all the trials and tribulations the country went through in writing it. They get a kick out of how politicians got along then just about like they do now. :) Next, seventh grade will start on westward expansion and how the country expanded ocean to ocean.

Eighth grade is beginning our look at the Imperialist Era and how the United States dealt with territories and colonies across the ocean. They just finished the Progressive Era. We all decided we were thankful for the people that caused the laws to change and helped enact safety regulations. Ask your eighth grader about what was going in the labor market before it got better. I am really trying to savor my last few weeks with this eighth grade class. They were my last fourth graders and I’ve been with them a long time. I know they will do great things and they will always have people that care about them here at Renick!

Quarter 4

Thank you for making our pizza party such a success! It was great to see all the families enjoying literacy and participating in activities together. Enjoy thes photos of

our pizza party!

I have seen great progress this year with phonemic awareness,

comprehension, fluency, and decoding skills! We will continue to work on this through the end of the school year. As we near

the end of the year, I will be completing the end of the year Dibels benchmark. These scores will be shared with you so you can see your child’s progress.

Counseling CornerIt’s time to say farewell! We are in fourth quarter already! This year has flown by. With spring here and clocks set ahead, enjoy the time you have with your student! As the weather is getting better, get outside and get some Vitamin D. It can be healthy for your brain to get some outside time as much as possible.

Parent Tips In each newsletter, there will be a tip to try. This quarter is about communication.

Set aside time for talking and listening to each other. ...1. Turn off phones, computers and televisions when you

and your child are communicating. ...2. Talk about everyday things as you go through your day.

...3. Be open to talking about all kinds of feelings, including

anger, joy, frustration, fear and anxiety.

UPCOMING EVENTS

STUCO PROJECTAt the beginning of the School year, StuCo had the awesome idea of creating a Buddy Bench for students who didn’t have anyone to play with at recess. That idea came to life in March of this year. We would like to thank MacRak and Joseph Santos for donating the buddy bench to StuCo for us to paint and soon put on the playground!
