Release 19.9 summary

This is the first release of Plan to integrate the AWP model, establishing an overarching shift in practices.

New features summary

NOTE:

Beginning with this release, the Work Packaging module in Plan has been realigned to

follow the Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) philosophy. This best-practice approach is

designed to improve project performance and predictability throughout the project life

cycle and is widely considered the future of field planning. The specific features listed

below are all part of the newly applied AWP model in Plan.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP):

• Changes to Work packaging grid layout – The layout in the Work packaging page has been modified to reflect the AWP model. Read more.

• Construction Work Area (CWA) – CWA has been created in the hierarchy from the Plan Work Area table. Read more.

• Construction Work Package (CWP) – You can now create a CWP as part of the AWP model. Read more.

• Installation Work Package (IWP) – You can now create an IWP as part of the AWP model. Read more.

• Sidebar added containing data values – A new sidebar that displays relevant data values pertaining to the associated work area or work package has been added. Read more.

• New card view option – You can now switch from the default view to a new card view format when loading a work area or work package. Read more.

Improvements summary

• Work package association – In Quantity Tracking, you are now able to associate no more than one work package with a component. Previously, you could associate multiple work packages, which could impact reporting accuracy as components were claimed.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP)

Changes to Work packaging grid layout

Previously, the Work packaging page in Plan included a list of work plans, which could be broken down

further into work packages, as seen in the screenshot below.

This layout has been changed to reflect the AWP model, switching to a three-tier system. The three tiers

are:

• Construction Work Area (CWA)

o Construction Work Package (CWP)

▪ Installation Work Package (IWP)

Construction Work Area (CWA)

The configuration of CWAs is the same as in previous releases. However, the CWAs that have been

configured are now prepopulated in the main Work packaging page as the top-tier parent to any

associated CWPs or IWPs. After clicking on a CWA, you can navigate between two tabs. The Construction

Work Packages tab shows the CWPs and IWPs associated with the selected CWA.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP)

6

The Construction Work Area Overview tab shows the CWA’s name and ID, when it was last updated and

who updated it, as well as a work area summary.

Construction Work Package (CWP)

Previously, when opening a work plan or package, three tabs were displayed at the top of the page.

Now, when clicking on a specific CWP, five tabs are displayed, each containing information pertaining to

that CWP. The Work Packages tab shows the IWPs associated with the selected CWP.

In previous versions, work plans and work packages contained the same overview information. The

Construction Work Package Overview tab now contains information more tailored to the purposes of a

CWP.

The Workspace tab includes data blocks for Work sequence, Budget, Component and Schedule ID, each

aligned vertically.

The General Considerations tab lets you take notes on safety, environmental, quality, equipment and

material concerns related to your work package. Each of these topics are displayed as text fields, and

you can add custom formatting styles, as appropriate.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP)

The Documents tab is the same as before, allowing you to attach documents for specifications,

schedules and other information related to the work package.

Installation Work Package (IWP)

When opening an IWP, three tabs are displayed. In previous versions, work plans and work packages

contained the same overview information. The Overview tab now contains information more tailored to

the purposes of an IWP.

The Workspace tab features a sidebar that contains a list of available data blocks, each having a

corresponding checkbox. Clicking on any of the checkboxes automatically adds that data block to the

window on the right, and each data block is aligned vertically.

Additionally, you can save a workspace with the checkboxes you have selected as a new viewset by

clicking on Save workspace as view below the list of available data blocks. You can accomplish the same

thing by selecting the View drop-down arrow on the upper right corner of the page.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP)

10

The Documents tab is the same as the one in the CWP interface, letting you attach documents for

specifications, schedules and other information related to the work package.

Constraint management data block

Within the new IWP interface, there is a new data block available called Constraint management. This

data block lets you manually enter data to flag potential project constraints, who is responsible for

them, when they are due and their status of open or closed.

Sidebar added containing data values

Each tab in a CWA, CWP and IWP (excluding the IWP’s Workspace tab) features a sidebar that displays a

percent complete graphic, as well as other data values pertaining to that work area or work package.

New card view option

When loading a CWA, CWP or IWP, you can now toggle the change view icon on the toolbar to switch to

the card view format.

When switching to the card view from the Work packaging page, the page displays the most recent

saved work packages, as well as a card for each work area in the project in the same order as the default

grid view and with the same data but in an alternate layout.

Similarly, when switching to the card view after loading a CWA or CWP, the page displays a card for each

work package associated with the CWA or CWP, also in the same order as the default grid view and with

the same data but in an alternate layout.
