The Dayalbagh Educational Institute achieved Deemed University status in 1981, under the UGC Act 3 of 1956. Our university is situated on the outskirts of historic city of Agra in the serene environment of the colony of Dayalbagh, which is known for its secular establishment and

spiritually surcharged atmosphere.

The DEI education policy is an innovative, comprehensive and flexible, higher and technical (education) policy with mission objectives of evolving a “Complete Man” (Total Quality Person) which conforms to the concept of Total Quality Management and is geared for transformation of India to a knowledge society. Its curriculum includes core courses on cultural education, comparative study of religion, scientific

methodology, agricultural operations, social service and co-curricular activities, which facilitate well-rounded development of the student. Some unique thrust areas, in which DEI distinguishes itself from other universities, are as follows:

1. Outreach Programme of DEI: The outreach programme of DEI provides need-based education

for enhancing the employability skills of individuals from diverse backgrounds. This programme

targets geographically remote and backward areas with vocational training programmes, and

offers education on no-profit basis. This helps us remain aligned with national programme for

upliftment of under-privileged and backward societies.

2. Distance Education Programme: The distance education programme of DEI was accorded the

approval by the Distance Education Council (DEC) on recommendation of Joint Committee of

UGC-AICTE-DEC. These educational programmes are backed by the laboratory work, workshops

and state-of-the-art communication technology including EDUSAT, the satellite interactive

terminal which provides two-way interaction between the University and its study centers.

3. Establishment of Centre for Consciousness Studies: This is an area in which DEI has taken the

initiative to provide a new model for collaborative and innovative research with an

interdisciplinary and visionary approach. The Centre for Consciousness Studies of DEI is

positioned as the perfect DNA with which the University would blossom into a power house of

higher intelligence and knowledge capable of setting up a New World Order.

4. Co-operative Education: Co-operative education is a structured method of combining

classroom-based education with practical work experience in the industry. It entails cooperation

between Institute and Industry to produce industry-ready, skilled, and trained professionals.

The placement programme of M.B.A.’s in D.E.I. has been quite successful in placing its students in industry. The high quality of our students is evident from the positions held by our illustrious alumni in the industrial world. Many organizations that have recruited our graduates have returned year after year to the campus to add to their intake.

Blends of academic excellence, holistic development, and dedicated teaching, have contributed towards D.E.I. management graduates establishing their niche in the corporate world.

I firmly believe that our students will add significant value to your organization and strongly recommend them to you.

M E S S A G E F R O M T H E H E A D , D E P T . O F M A N A G E M E N T

Since its inception in the year 1991, the management education in D.E.I. has achived several significant milestones in its journey of last 20 years. The year 2012 was significant for all of us as we celebrated a special ‘30-20-10-05’ year in the department. This connotes 30 years of establishment of D.E.I., 20 years of M.B.A. program, 10 years of alumni meet, ‘MILAN’, 5 years of Department of Management as independent department

in the university. 01 indicates the launch of ‘Connect’ Program in Management Education. Let me give you a brief about some of the recent initiatives of the department. D.E.I. has embarked upon a bold and ambitious program, ‘VISION-2031’, looking 20 years ahead. As part of the ‘VISION-2031’ program, Department of Management has set a bold agenda for itself. The key features of this program can be summarised as: (i) improve placements in terms of quality and quantity, (ii) introduce case-oriented pedagogy in a significant way, (iii) further enhance research output, (iv) increase research and consulting projects outlay in the department, (v) increase the number of management and faculty development programs in the department, and (vi) seek new MOU’s with Indian and foreign universities and corporates.

In pursuance of VISION-2031, the Management Program at the Dayalbagh Education Institute conceived ‘Connect Program in Management Education (CO-PRIM-e)’ by inspiration from its visionary leadership. ‘CO’ of ‘CO-PRIM-e’ (to be pronounced as Co-Prime) signifies togetherness of the stakeholders that is institute, industry, students and society in achieving ‘Prime’ position by the Department of Management in the field of management. The ‘e’ in the end signifies the important role that e-platform of D.E.I. would play in achieving this goal. The program is a part of the ‘VISION-2031’ program which envisions making D.E.I. a top teaching and research institute by the year 2031. This envisages the future of the institute into imparting online modular and co-operative education to a large number of beneficiaries.

The major partners of the project ‘CO-PRIM-e’ are corporates. With the MBA 2012-13 batch, we launched the co-operative MBA program. Under this program, we have already placed some of our top students for six months training with companies like TATA AIA, Borges India Private Limited, Armacell, DSCL, LightO Technologies etc.

Through these initiatives, we aim to build a stronger connect with the industry than we have ever done in the past. It is my firm belief that the placement of our students would be a prime mover in this regard. To achieve this bold ambition, I seek all the support from industry. I invite you to partner with us in pursuance of our vision program. Prof. Sanjeev Swami Head, Dept. of Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Dayalbagh, Agra

M E S S A G E F R O M T H E P L A C E M E N T C O N V E N E R

With immense pleasure and pride, I welcome you to the Management Program of Dayalbagh Educational Institute. It is my privilege to invite you to participate in the goal of our institute that emphasizes on providing education that combines the much sought excellence along with the relevance to the contemporary needs of the world.

The Department of Management in D.E.I. recognises that today's global companies require managers with a broad outlook. It has, therefore, made great efforts to form effective link of its management programs with the industry – by attracting faculties from the industry, encouraging students and staff to work on the live projects with the industry, and offering business consultancy to the industry and society at large.

Students are given a chance to learn and gain experience before actually starting to work through projects, internships or case studies that are taught during the course. This practical knowledge helps them to understand the market better and build in them the required skills to

handle difficult and different situations successfully.

Industry interaction is the round-the-year phenomenen in the department. Faculty Training and Placement Cell believes in building long-term mutually beneficial relationship with the corporate world. This is evident from the fact that most of our recruiters engage with us in activities beyond placement like conducting pre-placement talks, workshops, sessions and being knowledge partners for the student activities. These include eminent organizations like Headstrong Services Pvt. Ltd., HDFC Ltd., AC Nielsen, HCL Technology, Sri Ram Fibres Limited., American Express Bank, DCM Shriram Consolidated Limited., MakeMyTrip.Com, Future Group, Tata Consultancy Services, PNB Investment Services Ltd., HDFC Bank, Centurion Bank of Punjab, Armacell, Reliance Money, Escorts Mutual Fund, State Bank of India, Phillips, and so on.

The most frequently cited accolades from these organizations regarding our students include their ethical values, humility, honesty, ability to learn quickly, versatility, performance as team players, analytical skills, and above all, the positive attitude they bring with them.

I earnestly hope that you also find that our students match your expectations. I wish a very successful career ahead to all our students and feel confident that they will make significant contribution to your organization.

Dayalbagh Educational Institute (D.E.I.) was conferred the status of a Deemed University by

Government of India under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act on May 16, 1981.

The university has been accredited with ‘A’ Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation

Council (NAAC) in the year 2013. The Institute is located at Dayalbagh, a self-contained colony

renowned for its serene environment and secular establishments, in which its inhabitants lead an

active, disciplined and co-operative community life, conforming to the high spiritual ideals of

their faith.

During the past 30 years of its existence, the University has successfully implemented an

innovative, comprehensive and value based education system with the mission objective of

evolving a complete man. The education system of D.E.I. fosters academic excellence along with

holistic development and aims to bring about the physical, intellectual, emotional and ethical

integration of an individual. It is a system which imbibes academic excellence, high moral and

spiritual values and social sensibilities. In accordance with these ideals, D.E.I. focuses on a

comprehensive, integrated and inter-disciplinary education scheme, which affords the students

an opportunity to get a first rate, broad-based education. The unique approach to education

followed here enables the student to imbibe basic human values, a spirit of tolerance and respect

for the religious faiths and beliefs of others. More importantly, D.E.I. believes in preparing its

The D.E.I. Education Policy was conceived, planned, formulated, crystallized and executed by the

Supreme Teacher Revered Dr. M.B. Lal Sahab, the Founding Director of the Institute. The policy

endeavours to create an educational system that strives towards the fulfilment of the Holy

Mandate given by the founder of Dayalbagh, Revered Sir Sahabji Maharaj, "Education, more

education, education made perfect is the only panacea for all our country's ills and evils". The

emphasis on "combining the much sought excellence with the much needed relevance to

contemporary needs" is its distinguishing feature.

The following excerpt from the Report of the Dayalbagh Educational Institute of 1974 sheds light

on our approach to education.

"...At Dayalbagh we have tried in our own way to make education more realistic to life and living

and during the last two years the various units of Dayalbagh Educational Institute have

introduced an intensive vocational training and work-experience program for students. We have

the scheme of comprehensive education wherein we have pleaded for a job-oriented integrated

curriculum at the first degree level.”

I am reminded of the important quotation by Rev. Prof. MB Lal Saheb, Founder Director of D.E.I.. He says: "It is the quality of work that makes a university great." D.E.I. is exemplified by this statement in letter and spirit . . . through the promotion of excellence in instruction and research within its special social, moral and spiritual framework.

Using the medium of an innovative, comprehensive and flexible education policy, D.E.I. attempts

to chisel out the total quality person through a persistent focus on imparting quality education. In

its pursuit of quality education, D.E.I. has instituted an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (I.Q.A.C.)

based on the specific guidelines of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, an

autonomous body set up by the UGC. The activities of the I.Q.A.C. envelop the University central

administrative structure, University departments, P.G. centres and every component of the

University system. D.E.I. relentlessly strives towards an institutionalized quality control process

through the following quality focused approach:

A B O U T T H E C O - O P E R A T I V E E D U C A T I O N P R O G R AM

The Concept

In accordance with the mission of D.E.I., of the evolution of a complete person, Co-operative Education Program is an Industry – Institute Partnership for producing job ready graduates.

Co-operative education is a structured method of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience in the industry. It entails cooperation between Institute and Industry to produce trained professionals. DEI is collaborating with University of Waterloo (a global leader in the Co-op education model) and has launched its own Co-op model in 2013, suitably adapted to Indian conditions. The model aims at development of ‘employability skills’ through the introduction of a 6 month industry stint as part of the course requirement.

Salient Features

Students are placed for 5 months beginning April (for Engg.) and for 6 months beginning June

(for MBA).

Companies can select students based on interviews or any other process as they require.

Institute appoints dedicated faculty to supervise students during Co-op training. Department

has also tied up with about 100 alumni to provide support.

Joint reviews are carried out once during intern-ship. Final evaluation by organization is done at end of training.

Organization to indicate possibility of ’Preplacement interest’ or ’Pre-placement offer’ within

60 days of close of training for student to be taken out of normal campus placement process.

16 | P a g e

Benefits of this Program

The Co-op model brings significant benefit to not only the student, but also to Industry and Institute. While the cost of recruiting, training and developing a fresh graduate can be upwards of one year’s salary, most fresh graduates leave the organization within 2 years due to non-fitment with culture and working environment.

The Co-op model allows organizations to observe the candidate closely for an extended period of time thus allowing a deeper understanding of the competencies and fit of the student. The students also bring in fresh ideas and perspectives to the workplace and can be used for regular duties and assignments or for special projects.

Students on the other hand gain immensely through an extended on-the-job understanding of how academic principles are applied in real situations and an opportunity to test the skills learnt in the classroom. The interaction and feedback from returning students and participating organizations allows the University to enhance and improve its curriculum. With a deeper understanding of the industry, which grows with each passing year, the faculty is able to relate practice to theory better.
