The existence of ghosts and apparitions is theoretically possible in a scientific sense, a fact which should come as a surprise to both the scientifically trained and those who are not. In other words, all those people who have seen or experienced ghosts and apparitions could have come into contact with something that is physically real. It is

possible and perhaps even probable that they are neither fictional experiences created in the mind of the experiencer nor are they made of matter, although they can be sensed as 'things' in our extended external physical (nonmaterial) universe by the mind through either our normal senses or directly through consciousness, if not both

together. We have - and the term 'we' is meant to include both non-scientists and scientists alike - unfortunately succumbed to the simple belief that ‘things’ are either

mind or matter (purely mental as opposed to material) or they belong to a classification that only allows Cartesian Mind or Matter (religious as opposed to

scientific, respectively). Yet there exists a good many real ‘things’ that exist somewhere between mind and matter as well as Mind and Matter. Considering these

differences opens up a vast region of physical reality that is never considered by anyone, including scientists, under any circumstances in any meaningful way. In other

words, the simple words of mind and matter have far too many meanings, connotations and interpretations to be of use in something as exact as science where

all quantities must be well defined. When mind and matter are more carefully and scientifically defined, the survival of mind and consciousness as physical but non-

material entities that can be ‘observed’ under special physical conditions becomes possible. Ghosts fall into this category of physical ‘things’.

I am a theoretical physicist, not a ghost hunter, so my interests are completely different than most of

you. My primary interests in physics are the physics of

consciousness, cosmology and the history of physics

Although it sounds like I wouldn’t be interested in ghost hunting

because it has nothing to do with consciousness and cosmology, it has everything to do with both.

Physics is the study of all physical reality which includes what ghost

hunters do and discover.

If ghosts and apparitions exist, then it is left to physics to explain

them and that is what I do, or rather I study the theoretical

possibility of ghosts and an afterlife in the course of my normal

theoretical pursuits in physics

I propose that (a) Life – the proverbial ‘life force’ – is the complex matter/energy field pattern that

corresponds to a living organism, essentially a pattern of quantized space-time curvature; (b) Mind is the complex electrical scalar potential field pattern

associated with the living organism; and (c) Consciousness is the complex magnetic vector potential field pattern associated

with mind and the living organism.

Within this context, Life is not matter and

energy, Mind is not electricity and Consciousness is not magnetism. Life,

Mind and Consciousness are the complex multi-leveled field patterns that emerged over the course of history and then began to reorganize matter/energy interactions

by modifying electrical and magnetic interactions in living biochemical

organisms more efficiently to enhance their further development.

All material objects are constructed from the same set of three different fields –

matter/energy, electric and magnetic – imprinted upon one another. Yet living

organisms (animate matter) are different from inanimate or non-living matter. The

animate matter of living organisms is defined by the high-level complexity of the field

components that renders these particular field patterns in living organisms different

from their inanimate material counterparts.

Because of the multi-leveled (domain) structure of the magnetic fields, normal meters that measure

the overall magnetic fields at various positions in space cannot

distinguish the EM patterns associated with life (and afterlife) –

at least not yet!

With respect to ghosts and

apparitions, the real scientific question should be “How does consciousness

(conscious thought, memories and the magnetic pattern that they represent)

arise in the mind?” because that would indicate what survives and can

return to be detected

Everything that we know about the external world comes to us through

neurons [or does it?]

(1) Water molecules in the neuron and brain are quantized nuclear magnetic resonators; (2) Microtubules act as classical magnetic

inductors to establish and guide the memory and thought processes; (3) Axon and neural walls are classical electric capacitors and act as current carrying wires; And (4) neural nets

whose formation are guided by electromagnetic resonance between various

microtubules form basic logic circuits.

The water molecules then imprint their basic magnetic patterns into the very points in space relative to

the inside of the skull to form memories and simple thoughts, as

does each level at a continuing more complex system of memories

and thought

Each of these levels represents a specific magnetic domain, each

contributing to the stability of the domains above and below their own

level to make a very stable overall magnetic pattern structure – this is consciousness – and similar domain structures exist throughout the body

This is the part that is hard to swallow, but it is scientifically

legitimate. Both electricity and magnetism have 3-D fields of

potential – so electricity does not form domains – but the individual points of the magnetic field have

vector potentials that extend into a 4th-D of space

When a person dies, life (the matter/energy pattern) and mind (the

overall electric field pattern) in 3-D space are both disrupted, but the 4-D magnetic vector potential pattern is

not stored in 3-D space – it exists in a higher dimension of space – so the inherent stability of the magnetic

domain structure holds consciousness intact and it survives death of the body

The surviving consciousness (magnetic potential variation

pattern) reconstitutes mind (electric variation potential pattern) – they form the afterlife body beyond the presence of matter and energy – a magneto-electric potential pattern

body (extremely complex wave form of field potential)

When that complex magneto-electric variation pattern of field potential

interacts with the 3-D matter field it can create energy in the form of a complex weak electromagnetic (light) body that can be interpreted as an apparition – living organisms (people and animals)

are sometimes able to observe or detect these weak light patterns

If mind and consciousness only existed in the brain, then all ghosts

would look like floating brains or heads, but they are full-bodied

since mind and consciousness extend throughout the whole body even though mind and consciousness

seem to only exist inside your brain

Your whole body is conscious at some level and just as the neural nets in the brain imprint memories in the space-time continuum within your brain and

body as point-by-point magnetic vector potential patterns, under the

proper conditions they can extend that imprint into the environmental

continuum (without actually dying)

Intense emotions, fear, stress, and similar internal energetic states actually have more than enough intensity to imprint memories in the body as well as leave trace

imprints (apparitional or residual hauntings) in the surrounding

environment

If you overload an electrical circuit you can actually magnetize nearby

objects in the environment – lightning striking metallic objects or nearby them often magnetizes the objects – residual hauntings are essentially the same thing

Residual haunting sites such as Gettysburg, the D-Day invasion and the

moors of northern England are locations where groups of soldiers actually

imprinted their final moments before and during battles directly into the physical environment - it’s like the soldiers overloaded their internal

electrical circuits to magnetize their surroundings

Otherwise, ghosts can be explained in the same way except that they are not environmental imprints, but actual 3-D

images of the surviving magneto-electric vector potential body – They can

interact with the environment to create ghosts or directly with individual

consciousnesses of living people and beings (DBVs, NDEs, mediums, etc)

So how would I go about verifying this theoretical model of ghosts

and apparitions – remember many hauntings are just residual

magnetization effects or residual patterns of magnetic potential – so how do you go about inducing the

strongest possible effect?

The scientific method (1) Observe, (2) Define, (3) Measure

(4) Look for repetitive patterns (5) Develop a hypothesis to explain the

repeating patterns of events (6) Experiment to verify the hypothesis

under specifically controlled conditions - you recreate conditions of observation

(7) Broaden results if verification successful and develop a theory

Haunting Hypothesis: The environment has been imprinted with intensely

stressful moments of battle

Experimental procedure: Try to duplicate the objective (physical and

physiological) and even subjective (psychological) conditions that

prevailed at the time the imprint was made to detect or observe imprints

Measure results and draw conclusions – Is this experiment replicable by other scientists?

That’s the hard part!
