editorialHallo Laserdisc- und DVD-Fans,liebe Filmfreunde!Mit der jetzt vorliegenden Ausgabe unseresNewsletters können wir voller Stolz einkleines Jubiläum verknüpfen. Denn es istbereits die 200. Ausgabe! Erinnern Siesich? Angefangen hat alles im Jahre 1992,also zur Hochphase der LaserDisc. DenNewsletter haben wir damals in loser Fol-ge an unsere Kunden verschickt. AlsStandardbrief per Deutsche Post. EinInternet gab’s damals noch nicht. Auchhatte der Newsletter zu jener Zeit einenUmfang von maximal drei doppelseitigbedruckten DIN A4 Blättern. Alles schönüberschaubar und gemächlich.Doch schon bald wurde uns klar, dass wirdie Frequenz für den Newsletter erhöhenmussten. Denn bedingt durch die Tatsache,dass das Thema LaserDisc in gängigenFachmagazinen nur äußerst stiefmütterlichbehandelt wurde, entstand bei den Samm-lern ein immer größer werdendesInformationsvakuum, das es mit Informa-tionen zu schließen galt. Fortan durftensich unsere Kunden auf einen monatlichenNewsletter freuen - weiterhin auf bis zuzwölf DIN A4 Seiten, hübsch gefaltet undkuvertiert. Mit der Geburt der DVD wurdedann alles ganz anders. Hatten wir dochplötzlich zusätzlich zur LaserDisc auchnoch den kleinen Bruder in unseremProduktportfolio. Von Stund an wurde derPlatz, der in jeder Newsletter-Ausgabe zurVerfügung stand, äußerst kostbar. EineAusdehnung des Newsletters auf mehr alszwölf Seiten hätte damals das vorgeseheneBudget weit überzogen. Auch an eine hö-here Versendungsfrequenz war aus Kosten-gründen nicht zu denken. Doch inzwischenhatte sich das Internet mit seinen vielfälti-gen Kommunikationsmöglichkeitenflächendeckend etabliert und so konntenwir den längst überfälligen Schritt in diedigitale Zukunft wagen. Ausgabe 85 desNewsletters war die erste Ausgabe, die wirals herunterladbares PDF-Dokument auf

unserer Website bereitstellten. Das war imJuli 2002. Und Sie sehen ja selbst, wasinzwischen daraus entstanden ist: eine14tägige Publikation mit einem Umfangvon 40 bis 60 Seiten pro Ausgabe! Bei alldem Faible fürs Digitale haben wir natür-lich nie jene treuen Leser vergessen, diesich nicht so viel aus der modernen Kom-munikation machen und stellen diesennach wie vor eine (kostenpflichtige) Print-Ausgabe zur Verfügung. Aber genug derSelbstbeweihräucherung. Die setzen wirdann wieder bei Ausgabe 250 fort!

Elvis und JFK kommen...Es ist wieder eines dieser Beispiele, diedeutlich machen, dass es wirklich guteFilme kaum in die deutschen Kinos schaf-fen. Die Rede ist von Don Coscarellis zuRecht zum Kultfilm gekürten BUBBA HO-TEP aus dem Jahre 2002. Einzig die Ver-anstalter des Fantasy Filmfests erkanntendas ungeheure Potenzial dieses schrägenHorrorspoofs und präsentierten ihn in sei-ner Originalfassung während des FantasyFilmfests 2003, wo er sogleich von einem

begeisterten Publikum enthusiastisch be-klatscht wurde. Ende. Aus. Schluss.BUBBA HO-TEP interessierte offensicht-lich keinen einzigen Filmverleiher undverschwand aus deutschen Landen. Fanskonnten sich immerhin aus den USA oderauch England mit der DVD des Films ver-sorgen. Wir selbst haben die US-DVD vonBUBBA HO-TEP seit ihrem Erscheinensicherlich ein Dutzend mal angeschaut -

und waren jedes mal wieder aufs neue be-geistert! Wenn der Film keinen Kino-verleiher für Deutschland findet, danndoch ganz bestimmt wenigstens einenDVD-Anbieter. Doch auch hier jahrelangFehlanzeige. Dann vollkommen überra-schend eine Mitteilung, die uns in der ver-gangenen Woche erreichte: BUBBA HO-TEP kommt auf DVD! Der DortmunderDVD-Anbieter E.M.S. hat den Film mitdeutscher und englischer Audiospur fürMärz als Leihversion angekündigt. DasLeihfenster beträgt in der Regel drei Mo-nate, so dass wir uns im Juni auf eineschön ausgestattete Kaufversion freuendürfen. Für Kenner der Originalfassungdes Films dürfte es besonders interessantsein zu sehen bzw. zu hören, wie es dasSynchronstudio schafft, den herrlichenSlang des Originals ”rüberzubringen”.Bruce Campbell als Elvis und der inzwi-schen verstorbene Ossie Davis als JFKsowie der superbe Score von Brian Tylerwerden für einen unvergesslichen Heim-kinoabend sorgen. Darauf geben wir unse-re ”Laser Hotline Garantie”!

Und es kommt doch auf die Größe anEin jährliches Event zieht uns mal wiederin seinen Bannkreis: das WidescreenWeekend in Bradford, England. Als festerBestandteil des Bradford Film Festivalsfindet es in diesem Jahr vom 16. bis 19.März 2007 statt. Zu sehen gibt es wiederviele Schätze einer Filmepoche, deren Slo-gan schlicht und ergreifend ”Size doesmatter!” heissen könnte. Ob CinemaScope,70mm oder 3-Streifen Cinerama - nie wur-den die Leinwände der Kinos mit breiterenund auch qualitativ besseren Bildern be-spielt als in der Blütezeit der Groß-produktionen, den 50er- und 60er-Jahren.Die meisten der in Bradford gezeigtenFilme sind nur noch dort so zu erleben,wie sie von ihren Machern gedacht waren.Für echte Filmfans ein Grund, selbst stun-denlange Flugreisen um den halben Erd-ball auf sich zu nehmen, um dabei zu sein.Das trifft natürlich in gewissem Maße auchauf uns zu und so werden wir im März eineReise ins britische Bradford antreten.
