He has a Dream

I have a dream that my four childrenwill one day live in a nation wherethey will not be judged by the color

of their skin but the contentof their character.

A simple dream, isn’t it?

In 1963 he held his famousI have a dream speech.

He dreamed of a world in which

the laws protect everyone not just the whites.

He dreamed of a world in which

poor people could hope for a better life.

He inspired millions of peopleTo dream with him.

In the end he died for that dream.

Rosa Parks

December 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white passenger. Which was illegal at that time.She was arrested.This was the catalyst for beginning the Civil Rights Movement.This demonstration lasted until 21th December 1956.

Sit-in protestStudents in Greensboro, North Carolinadecided to stage a sit-in at a restaurantwhich refused to serve African Americans.

A sit-in is when you peacefully and quitely Sit in a place for attention.

They were often assaulted by white peoplebut they never hit back.

King was arrested during the sit-in protest.

In 1963 Martin Luther King led 250,000 people in a peaceful march to Washington

for jobs and freedom. It was here that he delivered his famous

I have a dream speech.

The Nobel Peace prize 14 October 1964

As he was standing out on the balcony of his hotel, a single gun shot rang out, which caused him to death.

His funeral was held in Atlanta, 9 April.

2 November 1986a national holiday is proclaimed

in King’s honor
