Identifying Advanced, Average and SlowLearners: Case Study in Journal ofEngineering Education TransformationsProf. Dr. RavindraMunje, Mr. OmkarBuwa&Ms.RupaliAhire(Published paper Journal of EngineeringEducation Transformations, Volume 34, January2027, Special issue, eISSN 2394-17 07).

Abstract: Engineering education is dynamicallychanging its face by transforming fromconventionai passive learning to active learningacross the globe. Active learning is a well-proventechnique to enrich the understanding level oflearners. However, the understanding, comprehension, and intellectual capabilities ofevery individual are different. It is highlyimportant to identify these capabilities andprovide the required knowledge feeding tointensi$r the curiosity of a learner in a speciflccourse. Since the same course may not beunderstood by all the learners at the same depth,it is required to characterize the learning abilitiesof every learner. Thus, the learner communit5r

can be classified into advanced, average, andslow learners. In this paper, a strategz based onBloom's Taxonomy (revised) is proposed foridentifying advanced, average and slow learnersin a course. For that, firstly, an online open-booktest (OBT) covering all the levels of revisedBloom's Taxonomy is innovatively designed foreach course. Secondly, the OBT is conducted asper schedule and question-wise, and thereby,Bloom's Taxonomy cognitive level-wiseassessment is completed for all the courses.Thirdly, course-wise students are ranked fromhighest to lowest performance levels usingstatistical tools. Finally, using pre-decidedthresholds, learners in a course are identifled asadvanced, average and slow. The application ofthis learner classification approach isdemonstrated by considering the case of coursesin the second, third, and fi.nal year of theElectrical Engineering program. The presentedapproach has substantial potential to be used fordesigning and planning course delivery toaccommodate all types of learners.

rObserver-based Multirate Feedback ControlDesign for Two-time-scale SystemProf. Dr. Ravindra Munje(Paper published in International journal ofAutomation and Computin g (2O2 tllAbstract:The use of a lower sampling rate fordesigning a discrete-time state feedback-basedcontroller fails to capture information of faststates in a two-time-scale system, while the use ofa higher sampling rate increases the amount ofcomputation considerably. Thus, the use ofsingle-rate sampling for systems with slow andfast states has evident limitations. In this paper, multirate state feedback (MRSF) control for alinear time-invariant two-time-scale system isproposed. Here, multirate sampling refers to thesampling of slow and fast states at differentsampling rates. Firstly, a block-triangular form ofthe original continuous two-time-scale system isconstructed. Then, it is discretized with a smallersampling period and feedback control is designedfor the fast subsystem. Later, the system is block-diagonalized and equivalently represented into asystem with a higher sampling period.Subsequently, feedback control is designed forthe slow subsystem and overall MRSF control isderived. It is proved that the derived MRSFcontrol stabilizes the full-order system. Being thetransformed states of the original system, slowand fast states need to be estimated for the MRSF

control realization Hence, a sequential two-stageobserver is formulated to estimate these states. Finally, the applicability of the design method isdemonstrated with a numerical example andsimulation results are compared with the single-rate sampling method. It is found that theproposed MRSF control and observer designsreduce computations without compromisingclosed-loop performance.

r Systematic and Rigorous Use of Feedback toEnhance Learning in Engineering ClassesProf. Dr. Mrs. Preeti Bhamre, ApurvVaidya & Ms.JagrutiNikam(Published a paper in Journal of EngineeringEducation Transformations eISSN: 2394 - 77 07)Abstract: Feedback aims to reduce the gapbetween where the students are and where theyare meant to be. In order to bridge this gap, teachers must incorporate feedback in classroomeffectively. There is a need to understanddifferent ways in which feedback can be providedin classroom. There is also a need to identifii andimplement simple yet systematic procedure toprovide regular and transparent feedback inclassroom. This study presents deliberate use ofspaced questioning to understand how to takefuil benef,ts from feedback in the classroom.Feedback is summarized based on the errorscommitted by the students. Instead ofconsidering the errors simply as deficit ofknowledge or inability of students to thinkcorrectly, they can be treated as opportunities tobridge the gap of what students know and whatthey should know. Knowing and acknowledgingthese errors is the key contribution of a teacher, which can be attained through feedback inclassroom. The participants in this study werefirst year engineering students of 14 classes, enrolled for the Engineering Mechanics course. An ICT tool named MKCL SuperCampus, wasused to pose questions and to track real timeindividual performance in the classroom. The useof the ICT tool provided an easy and fearlessenvironment for students to participatecomfortably, thereby motivating them to makeand learn from errors and to engage more whilelearning in classesKeywords: Information and CommunicationTechnology (ICT), Teaching-Learning,Instruction, Formative assessment, Learningoutcomes.
