There is a myth in Indonesia that women are colonized by the men.

The women authority is limited by the area of home only. Women needed to take care of their family and make everything went well.

Kartini (1879 -1904) is a Javanese prominent woman had struggled of this issue.

Kartini was born from aristocratic Javanese family. Her father, R.M. Adipati Ario Sosroningrat was a regent of Jepara in Central Java.

Kartini felt bad for the socio-cultural situation which happened in her surround residence.

RESEARCH BACKGROUNDRESEARCH BACKGROUND Kartini lived in a prosperous family which made her could get the education easily but the tradition required girls have to have their education until they were 12 years old.

Girls had to being secluded for preparing their marriage.

The restriction made Kartini frustrated, regretful and sadness.

She wrote letters to her friends who lived in Europe to express her feelings.

She had a passion to study in Europe. She had a dream to build a path for women to get their rights in education

RESEARCH BACKGROUNDRESEARCH BACKGROUND In her seclusion time, Kartini tried to study by reading books which was sent by all of her friends in Europe.

The effort of Kartini for women education was by opening the school for women. The school which located in a balcony of her father’s home.

“Out of dark comes light. Out of typhoon comes the settle down. Out of war comes win. Out of sorrow comes happiness.” written by Kartini in one of her letters (Pane, 2000).

After Kartini passed away, JH Abendanon, the Minister for Culture, Religion and Industry in the East Indies collected and published the Kartini’s letters into a book. Door Duisternis tot Licht (Out of Dark Comes Light) was published in 1911.

Many things have to be struggled in ourselves and yet many struggle have to be done then the various establishments and basic life was already old-fashioned, which is not in accordance with the times, buried and will not wake up anymore– letter of Kartini to Mrs. Van Kol, 19 August 1901 (Kompas, April 20, 2013).

The discrimination still exist in this era Based on the survey data population census 2010, the Yogyakarta total resident is 3,457,491 people (women 1,748,581 and men 1,708,910).

The literacy rate of population 15 years of age and over for women (85,72%) and men (93,94%).

The education rate for people in 5 years and more who: pass the high school : 56,86% (men) and 50,19% (women).

One of the evidence of discrimination is being influenced by the patriarchal concept. 6

This study use qualitative approach through collecting data by interviewing key informants from Cyber Village and literature and document study.

RESEARCH RESULTRESEARCH RESULT Kampung Cyber or Cyber Village was established in 2008.

Inspired by government concept to build internet program goes to village.

The first village in Indonesia that has an internet connection.

From 7 houses (2008) to 25 houses connecting with internet (LAN).

Locates at the back side of Taman Sari (used to princess bathing) near Kraton Yogyakarta palace.

The population : 141 people, majority education rate is senior high school and doing entrepreneur.

RESEARCH RESULTRESEARCH RESULT The average of computer ownership per family is one computer.

The use of computer in a family in turns among children, mother and father.

There is a public facilities at the security system environment place (pos siskamling) that already equipped with Wi Fi and computer for those who don’t have a computer in their houses.

The emergence of internet do not change a social life in this village.

The peole using internet for getting information, communicating and promoting their product through social media such as Facebook.

RESEARCH RESULTRESEARCH RESULT There is no discrimination for internet using, men and women could use internet freely, because this village based on togetherness.

The differences of internet using are depend on user purposes.

Women change their behavior patterns from watching soap opera become using internet.

Women using internet for communicating with other village, getting information, searching teaching materials and learning English by using Google translate .

CONCLUSIONCONCLUSION There is no discrimination in cyber village in term of accessing information through communication technology.

Internet have brought women and men updated.

The myth said men have more power and dominance from women in society has vanished since the phenomenon which happened in Cyber Village.

Technology could break the difference and women discrimination. 12
