Review Lesson: At the end of this Adventure, a special lesson will help your children review the main topics, verses, skills, and learning targets. Frequently encourage students to “brush up” on what they have been learning. Motivate them to continually solidify God’s Word as an enduring part of their lives.

These symbols will guide you through each My Awesome Adventure lesson:

Leader GuidesLearner Targets: This section identifies the key Bible truths and response goals for your disciples. By the end of each lesson, children should know, feel, and be able to do every listed item.

Extend Learning: These creative activities supplement or reinforce each topic. They have been designed for different types of learners. Select those that best meet the needs of your children.

Student WorkbooksChoose the full-color workbook for ages 6-9 or for ages 9-12. Your children will enjoy each page of their carefully designed workbooks. Every lesson presents exercises that reinforce Bible truths and help students develop critical thinking skills. My Awesome Adventure workbooks also include several distinct features:

HeartBeat: These activities help children apply a Biblical principle from the lesson.

Explore More: These exercises encourage your kids to dig more deeply into each lesson.

Bible Verse: Each lesson includes a memory verse that captures the central idea of the topic.

Jesus’ Example Jesus modeled true discipleship. He ministered to the masses, but He poured His life into twelve diverse disciples. We tend to emphasize Jesus’ ministry to the multitudes and minimize His one-on-one ministry to the twelve. Jesus walked along dusty paths privately instructing His disciples more often than He stood on the hillside publicly teaching the crowds.

Genuine discipleship takes place in one-on-one relationships, or in very small groups. My Awesome Adventure was designed as a one-on-one discipleship tool. While it can be taught in a group setting (this leader’s guide includes many ideas for using this material in the classroom), years of experience have proven that it is most effective when used one-on-one.

Making Disciples Children are accustomed to “jumping through the hoops” to complete projects and classes. The purpose of My Awesome Adventure is not to complete the book, but to be transformed by Jesus Christ! That may mean spending several sessions on one lesson or revisiting a previous chapter that is not yet being applied to a child’s life. To complete a book and declare a child “discipled” is actually counter productive if he or she has not yet put the principles into practice! This would give children a sense of arrival when they have only begun the journey.

Children can earn a “Certificate of Completion” at the end of these lessons. The certificate should be awarded for incorporating the principles into their daily experiences, not for completing the series. Beware of declaring a child “discipled” if he is not reading his Bible, or if she is not regularly bringing her needs and concerns before the Lord in prayer. By the time a child completes My Awesome Adventure, he or she should be actively sharing the faith, serving in the local church, taking time for personal devotions, as well as applying concepts from other lessons.

Individual Progress One-on-one discipling has many advantages over group discipleship. In a group setting, the members must advance together, regardless of how individual students progress. Some kids will excel at completing the content and memory work. This might alienate and discourage others who are not as fast. Thankfully, God deals with us as individuals. Each person grows at a personal pace. Spiritual progress is not based on comparisons with others; it is based on God’s schedule for individual people. Discipling kids should be the same. A child who progresses more slowly than others will not be discouraged or embarrassed in a one-on-one relationship. The pace is not important; progress is what matters.

In a group setting, some kids are not fully challenged while others are dragged along, not really mastering the content. In a one-on-one relationship, adult leaders make sure that each child learns and applies the lesson before moving ahead. Leaders can spend extra time exploring a topic if the child struggles with it, or shows extra interest in it. Do not advance to the next lesson until the current lesson and verse are success-fully learned and applied. At the beginning of the process, make sure that your child understands that your goal is to disciple them, to help them become more like Jesus, not just to complete the book. That way, if you choose not to move to the next lesson, the child will not view it as punitive, but as an opportunity to further explore the current topic.

Enjoy making disciples! Invest time with each disciple—as Jesus did.

One-on-One Discipleship

Your Opportunity Children can spend their entire childhood in Sunday school, and while they may learn many Bible facts and stories, they often are not able to express their most basic beliefs. Why? They have often not been taken through a course that effectively communicates the essentials of the Christian life. My Awesome Adventure can help you systematically disciple every child in your church. Your children will not only understand the basics, but they will also be able to articulate them to others.

These three phases will help you implement a church-wide children’s discipleship ministry so that every child is discipled in the essentials.

Phase One: Prepare Establish your goal to see every child in your church discipled. Begin to pray that God will raise up disciplers among your teachers, volunteers, parents, and even youth! Promote discipleship in your personal discussions. Motivate the people in your sphere of influence with the realization that children’s discipleship will transform your church!

Phase Two: Organize If you are a children’s pastor, teacher or children’s ministry volunteer, you cannot disciple every child! But you can disciple those whom God has placed closest to you. Parents can disciple their own children one-on-one.

Make a list of all the children who regularly participate in your ministry. Begin to recruit parents, teachers, volunteers, and spiritually mature youth to join the “Children’s Discipleship Team.” Prayerfully consider the needs of each child in your ministry. You may want to recruit a Discipleship Coordi-nator to monitor progress and keep track of who is being discipled by whom.

First, determine which children have parents who know and love the Lord. It is always best for parents to disciple their own children (see Deuteronomy 6). Approach those parents personally and invite them to a parent disci-pleship training class. Communicate to them the vision of building a strong spiritual foundation for their kids. Second, have teachers select children from their classes whom they can disciple—based upon their relationship with students and their families. Third, you may still have extra children who need to be discipled. As you recruit more disciplers, don’t overlook the seniors in your church! Not only are they a storehouse of knowledge and wisdom, but children will often be very receptive to them. These volunteers can consider and pray about which of these “special” kids they can disciple.

Remember, you do not need to disciple every child every year. Start with the older kids who will soon graduate from your children’s ministry to the youth group. You will have several years to catch the younger ones on their way up. Perhaps you will want to focus on discipling children in only two grades each year—for example, grades two and five. The My Awesome Adventure workbooks are different enough that a second grader can be discipled again in fifth or sixth grade. After three years, the needs and spiritual maturity of these children will be dramatically different.

Phase Three: Implement Offer quarterly or semi-annual training for your Discipleship Team. Disciplers should complete the ages 9-12 workbook and memorize the verses before they disciple a child. As an alternative, disciplers should complete the workbook along with the first child they disciple.

Church-wide Discipleship

Lesson SummaryA new believer’s life with Christ is anchored upon his or her correct understanding of God. It is critical to help children realize what God is like. Each facet of God’s nature gives believers comfort and insight. For example, since God doesn’t change, we never have to fear that He will someday decide not to save us. Since God is almighty, we know that no problem is too big for Him to handle. Since God is righteous, we can be assured that He will act with justice and impartiality.

In addition to “divine attributes” like omniscience (all-knowing), omnipotence (all-powerful), and omnipresence (all-present), God has many traits that people can readily understand: loving, good, merciful, joyful, and forgiving.

Most of all, God wants us to know Him as a personal Being. He loves us and is intimately concerned about each of His children.

Pray TogetherPray that God will reveal Himself throughout this lesson and that each student will learn more about what God is like.

Pray that children will sense God’s presence each day.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesHuge Universe Talk about the enormous size of the universe and how great its Creator must be. Use statis-

tics from an encyclopedia or an Internet search.

“Awesome God” Acrostic Create an acrostic using the letters A-W-E-S-O-M-E and G-O-D to describe what He is like. For example: A = awesome, W= wise, E=everywhere, etc.

Life without God Sit together in a closet or dark room. Talk about what life would be like without God.

Age 6-9 ActivitiesGod Is… As a group, invite children to list things they know about God. Talk about each suggestion. You may also want to make a list of things God created in Genesis 1.

Nature Scavenger Hunt Take your children outdoors. Ask them to find five items from God’s creation (or ten items if they’re

paired up or with a small group). Encourage students to look around and see the amazing things that God has created. Afterward, allow each child to show what he or she has brought back and discuss God’s hand in every tiny detail of creation, from the smallest veins in a leaf to the intricate patterns of minerals in a rock.

Age 9-12 ActivitiesGreat People Name individuals who are consid-ered to be “great.” Talk about what makes each one so great.

God or People? Make two lists that show char-acteristics of God and of people. Discuss the ways God and people are different and similar.

How to Know what God is Like

Big Idea: Christians praise God for His everlasting greatness.

Awesome God

Children Will: Know • God is GREAT: Generous, Righteous,

Eternal, Almighty, and Three-in-One (1 Chronicles 29:11).

• God created everything in the entire universe (Genesis 1:1).

• God created people in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27).

• The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equal, but separate Persons of the Trinity (Matthew 28:19).

Feel • Awed by God’s greatness and power. • Loved by their Creator and Friend. • Confident that God is Three-in-One.

Do • Decode the words that represent five attributes of God. • Find words that describe God in a word search puzzle. • Worship God, showing Him love and respect. • Memorize 1 Chronicles 29:11.

Explore ScriptureGuide students as they complete each exercise in their workbooks.

Page 1 — “Awesome God”Encourage students to use their own Bibles for this exercise.

Talk about God’s immense creative power and what it means to be made in “God’s image.”

Place a picture of each child in the frame. Polaroid makes a camera that takes pictures just this size with sticky, peel-off backs.

Page 2 — “God is Great!”Explain how to use the decoder and encourage children to decode the missing letters.

Discuss how each illustration helps them understand a charac-teristic of God.

Look up the Bible verses to discover more about God’s person-ality and nature.

Page 3 — “God is Amazing!”Use the triangle illustration to help students understand the Trinity. Then read the analogy about the sun, sunlight, and heat.

Look up the Bible references to see how the three Members of the Trinity are distinct Persons, yet They work together as One.

Page 4 — Application & ReviewHeartbeat: Encourage your disci-ples to think about how God might want to change areas of their lives. Suggest specific ways to change.

Explore More: Talk about each of God’s character traits (attributes) as you circle them. Help students explain it in their own words.

Bible Verse: Work together to begin memorizing this verse.

Inspire ActionSelect one of these activities to encourage students to apply the main Bible truth to their lives.

Age 6-12 ActivityTrinity—Ice, Water, Steam Melt ice cubes on a stove. Watch the water boil and turn to steam. All three (ice, water, and steam) are the same substance (hydrogen and oxygen molecules, H2O) in different states (solid, liquid, gas).

This can help them understand the Trinity: God is One, yet He exists in three distinct Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Age 6-9 Activity“God is Great” Picture Draw a picture to show one way that God is great.

Age 9-12 ActivityPantomime Choose five students and ask each to act out one attribute of God. Coach them on how to portray each attribute. (For example —Generous: someone giving things away; Righteous: pure as snow; Eternal: someone or some-thing old; Almighty: a weight lifter; Trinity: things in threes or a triangle.) As each student silently acts out an attribute, have the class try to guess what it is. Explain how each relates to God.

Memorize Bible VerseUse your favorite Bible translation to teach and rehearse this new Bible memory verse.

Topic: Awesome God

Reference: 1 Chronicles 29:11

Memory Activity: Write phrases of the verse on six small sheets of paper. (Make a set of six sheets for each student.) Using the sheets, students should try to assemble the verse. Slowly give them clues about which is first and so on. After students have assembled the puzzle, repeat the verse together several times.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conversational prayer.

Pray that students will learn to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Pray that God will reveal Himself to students and that they will experience Him personally as they read the Scriptures.

Answer KeyDownload answers for all student workbook exercises at: DiscipleLand.com/downloads Enter keyword: raft

God’s AlphabetDivide into groups of 4-6 students. Give groups 5 to 8 minutes to list one word to describe God for each letter of the alphabet. (Only one word per letter is allowed.) Bring the groups back together and ask for volunteers to read their lists. Give a group one point for each answer they have that no other team matches. (Rules are similar to the Scattegories™ game) While one team reads each answer, the other teams indicate whether or not they had the same answer (confirmed by a leader). If no other team had that answer (example: “Holy” for “H”) then the team circles that letter. Or, if another team had that same word, it would be crossed out on both lists. At the end, teams add their circles to get their score.

Creation AppreciationGo on a Creation Appreciation Hike, taking a few moments to be silent before God, listen to His voice and be in His presence. Look around. Spend time thanking God for the wonder and beauty of His creation.

As you observe your surroundings, compare the natural (God-created) world to the artificial (man-made) world. Read Psalm 148:7-13 aloud from your favorite Bible transla-tion as you hike. Say, “Jesus often taught in parables and compared the Kingdom of God to simple, earthly things such as seeds, trees, and soil. Do you see a parable around you? What truths about God are evident in His creation?” End with a prayer of thanks for God and His creative ability!

Lesson SummaryAccording to God’s own law, sin could only be forgiven through the death of a sinless substitute. How could sinful people be restored to their holy God? No human initia-tive could adequately repair the damage or pay the price!

So God decided on a most unlikely course of action—to take the sin of the human race upon Himself, the only sinless Being in the universe! Jesus Christ’s death totally satis-fies God’s justice. Those who trust in Christ are declared righteous—no longer guilty of sin.

In this lesson, you will lead your students to a clear understanding of the Gospel so they will realize that Jesus died for them person-ally. They will learn how much Jesus has done to forgive their own sins and provide new life!

Pray TogetherPray that God will use His Word to communicate the message that each student needs to hear.

Pray that children will have “ears to hear” so they will respond to what God says.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivityPopcorn Transformation Give each student a popcorn kernel and a piece of popped corn to hold and examine. Explain that after each “pop,” a kernel has been changed forever—from a small hard kernel to white, fluffy, deli-cious popcorn. Discuss how this parallels the transformation that

took place when Jesus forgave your sins and gave you eternal life. Serve popcorn to everyone!

Age 6-9 ActivityJesus is the Bridge Tape two lines on the floor wide enough apart so that children cannot jump from one to the other. Explain that one line represents earth and the other is heaven. The distance between the lines is “sin.” Have children line up and try to leap safely from “earth” to “heaven.” Discuss why it is impos-sible to jump from one line to the other without moving the lines. The chasm or gap is too wide! Next, roll out a piece of butcher

paper with the name “Jesus” written on it. Place it between the two lines. Invite children to walk across the bridge, explaining that Jesus’ death became the only bridge from God to people.

Age 9-12 ActivityObject Lesson on Forgiveness Begin with a glass of clear water that represents a life without sin. Pour some iodine into the glass to represent sin. Add some ammonia to the water and watch it “miracu-lously” become clear again. Point out that a similar cleansing takes place in our hearts when we trust Jesus, ask Him to forgive our sins, and accept His gift of eternal life.

How to Receive New Life

Big Idea: All who trust in Jesus Christ receive eternal life.

Awesome Promise

Children Will: Know • God loves and cares about them

(John 3:16; John 15:13). • Jesus died to forgive their sins

(Romans 5:8; 1 Peter 3:18). • God gave them new life and adopted

them into His family (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 1:12).

• God promises to give eternal life to everyone who trusts Jesus (John 5:24; John 17:3; 1 John 5:11-13).

• Christians can resist sin and live victoriously through Christ’s power (Galatians 2:20; 5:15; 1 Corinthians 10:13).

Feel • Overjoyed that Jesus forgave their sins and gave them eternal life when they trusted Him for salvation.

• Thankful for all of God’s promises to them. • Eager to live as victorious Christians.

Do • Trust Jesus to save them from the penalty of their sins. • Decode words that reveal God’s promises for new

Christians. • Practice “spiritual breathing” every day. • Tell someone that Jesus died to forgive their sins and

wants to give them eternal life. • Memorize John 5:24.

#2

Explore ScriptureGuide students as they complete each exercise in their workbooks.

Page 5 — “Awesome Promise”Lead your children through the Gospel presentation on this page. Be sensitive to their needs as you ask and answer questions.

Invite students to respond to the message by praying with you. For those who have already received Christ, use this as a review.

Page 6 — “Jesus Gives New Life”Use the decoder to help students discover some of God’s promises to every Christian.

As your children complete the hidden word puzzle, talk about the promises in John 5:24; John 17:3; and 1 John 5:11-13.

Page 7 — “Jesus Sets You Free”Age 6-9: Help your children under-stand how Christians can “get clean” before God and live victori-ously through Christ.

Age 9-12: Rehearse the “spiritual breathing” concepts together. Use examples of sins that are most relevant to your students. Encourage them to read the Bible verses themselves.

Page 8 — Application & ReviewHeartbeat: This exercise will help clarify that no one can earn a place in heaven. Pay attention to the locations where students place themselves on the diagram.

Explore More: Invite children to discover these surprising promises God makes to every Christian.

Bible Verse: Work together to begin memorizing this verse.

Inspire ActionSelect one of these activities to encourage students to apply the main Bible truth to their lives.

Age 6-12 ActivityOn the Cross Ask each student to write out a prayer of confession on a slip of paper. Fold the paper and attach it to a wooden cross studded with nails. This activity symbolizes putting to death their former selves, seeking and accepting

His forgiveness and moving on, cleansed and free.

Age 6-9 ActivitySearchlight Turn off the lights and shine a bright flashlight at the heart of each student, one by one. Explain that God constantly searches our hearts and knows what is going on in there. Talk about God giving them new lives and new hearts when they accept Jesus as Savior. When Jesus looks in the heart of a Christian, it is clean!

Age 9-12 ActivitySins Swept Away Read Psalm 103:12 together. Then ask students to write out on a slip of paper something they have done wrong. Fold the paper and drop it on the floor. Pass a broom around and allow students to sweep their sins into a pile in the middle of the room. Thank Jesus for taking their sins away and sweeping them out of God’s sight forever! Finally, sweep them all into the trash can.

Memory Activity: Write the verse out on the board. Jumble the letters, but keep the words in the same order. Now break the class into small groups of three or four people each. Ask them to unscramble the letters. After several minutes, ask each group to give some of the correctly unjumbled words. When all the words are unscrambled, repeat it together several times.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Thank God for all His promises, especially His gift of eternal life.

Pray that children will resist sin and live victoriously through Christ’s power.

Seventy Times SevenYou will need seventy pennies (5-10 minutes).

Read Matthew 18:21-22 together. Ask students if they have ever forgiven someone seventy times (or 490 times). Count out seventy pennies. Talk about how difficult this would be to do.

Ask children to think about how many times God has forgiven them. How many pennies would be in the pile if they had placed one penny in the pile for each sin?

Remove all but one penny from the pile. Remind students that Jesus forgave us once for all time when He died on the cross. His death frees us from the penalty of sin.

Separation of SinsYou will need: an open plastic container, water, cooking spray, Dawn or Joy dishwashing deter-gent (10-15 minutes).

Put about an inch of water in the container and spray a film of cooking oil over the surface of the water. Have the children try to push away or take the oil out of the water. This is like our sins, which we alone cannot remove.

But Jesus can take away our sins, which He did by dying on the cross for us. Add a drop or two of deter-gent, which will push away the oil. Jesus cleanses us from sin, as the detergent cleans away the oil.

At Home in HeavenAsk students to draw a picture of themselves in heaven standing beside God.

Lesson SummaryAfter receiving a valuable gift, such as a beautiful piano, the natural response would be for the recipient to begin playing it or to take piano lessons. When we receive Jesus as Lord and accept Him into our hearts, we receive a free gift, the gift of salvation. We did nothing to earn it or deserve it, but the natural response to receiving this gift would be for love and good deeds to begin to flow out of our lives. Our faith grows as we put it into action through good deeds of love.

The parable of the four soils illus-trates that having faith is not enough. Our faith grows through love and good deeds. It is proven through the things we do and by the way we treat other people. In this way, we produce fruit for God.

Pray TogetherPray that God would plant a deep desire within each child to keep growing spiritually.

Pray that they will be able to withstand Satan’s temptations and the lures of the world.

Age 6-12 ActivityGrowing Up List things that people need to grow physically (food, water, rest, shelter, air, etc.). List things that people need to grow spiritually (prayer, forgiveness, worship, read Bible, serving, obedience, etc.).

Age 6-9 ActivityHealthy Hearts You will need: markers, a large paper outline of a child’s body. Before class, outline one of your children on a large piece of poster paper. Place it on a table or clear floor area. Invite each child to list or draw an item that might help kids grow a healthy body. Include healthy foods, fruits, vegetables, vitamins, sleep, exercise, play, fresh air, water, etc. Ask your students what kids need to grow healthy hearts of love for God. What key ingredients will help them grow strong? Discuss items like God’s Word, prayer, obedience and fellowship.

Age 9-12 ActivityTwo Roads Focus on the life choice described in Psalm 1. Divide your class into two groups (or more if you have a large class). Explain that two people are standing at a fork in the road. Assign one person to each group, one taking the path of the wicked, the other the path of the righteous. Tell each group to create a story about their person—why he or she chose the path, how life changed along the way, and the consequences.

Explain to your children that every day they face choices about which way to go. Where we end up is determined by the path we decide to take. Talk about where they would rather end up. Remind them that if they choose God’s righteous path, they won’t have to worry where the road will lead.

How to Live for God

Big Idea: Christians grow in faith by producing good fruit.

Awesome Growth

Children Will: Know • Everything that is alive can grow. • Jesus told a parable about seeds to

explain four ways people respond to God’s Word (Mark 4:1-20).

• Many people lose interest in God and stop growing spiritually (Mark 4:14-19).

• Some people keep on producing spiritual fruit (Mark 4:20).

Feel • Alarmed that many people fall away and stop growing. • Determined to keep growing and to live for God. • Thankful that God gives them opportunities to grow.

Do • List things they can do to keep growing as Christians. • Choose the type of soil that they want to represent their

lives. • Decode words that describe what happens to four soil types. • Memorize John 15:8.

Age 6-12 ActivityWeed Watch Go outside and hunt for weeds. See who can bring back the largest weed or the most weeds. When you return, talk about the “weeds” in our lives—things that spring up and crowd in, and try to choke the good things in our lives. Discuss ways of pulling them up and getting rid of them.

Age 6-9 ActivityPlanting Seeds You will need: four paper cups for each student, hardy, easy-to-grow seeds and four soils (hard clay, rocky, weed-filled, good).

Place a different type of soil in each cup. Plant a few seeds in each soil. Invite students to take

these home and watch how each grows. Remind students to water their plants.

Age 9-12 Activity“D-T-W-P-H” Restate that real faith touches every area of our lives. If we are truly full of faith, we will find that we are becoming more Dutiful, Thankful, Watchful, Prayerful, and Humble. Across the top of the board, use the letters D, T, W, P, and H to spell the phrase “Do That Which Pleases Him.” Emphasize that true faith will make a differ-ence in all we do. Encourage them to make the areas they identify a matter of silent prayer as you pray together.

God’s Test PosterYou will need: a piece of poster board for each child, magazines to cut up, a picture of Jesus for each child, markers, scissors, and glue.

Prepare ahead by drawing a line down the middle and writing the title “God’s Test: Whom Do You Love?” on each piece of poster board. Give each child a piece of poster board. From the magazines, have the children cut out pictures of things that represent loving the world. Instruct them to glue these on one side of the poster. On the other side draw a picture that represents loving God and then also attach the picture of Jesus.

Lesson SummaryGod took the initiative to commu-nicate with people. The Bible is without error precisely because our omniscient God is its Author. Under the influence and scrutiny of the Holy Spirit, God utilized human hands, hearts, and minds in the Bible’s composition. Nearly forty different men were involved in writing the Bible over the course of about 1500 years. Translators from ancient times and still today have undertaken the marathon task of converting sacred Scriptures into other languages. We live in an exciting time when the Word of God is reaching more and more people, even those tucked away in obscure corners of the earth.

Pray TogetherPray that the children will sense the importance of knowing the Word of God so they may get to know its Author.

Pray that they will see how special they are to God—that He longs for a close friendship with each person.

Age 6-12 ActivityFavorite Books Tell the kids about a favorite book you read as a child and recently. Ask them to share a favorite book they have read and why they liked it. Talk about why books are so important. Explain that we learn the most important things in life from one book, the Bible. It helps us deal with life successfully.

Age 6-9 ActivityBox of Valuables You will need a jewelry box with a variety of jewelry.

Show the jewelry box to students. Open it to reveal the jewelry. Ask:

•Why do people keep jewelry in boxes and other safe places?

Get students thinking that objects of value should be put in safe places where they can be found later and used whenever needed.

Explain that the Bible is valuable like jewelry. The Bible is the Word of God and is full of wisdom. Ask:

•If this jewelry is like the Bible, what is the jewelry box like?

Help students see that they can fill their minds with the valuable wisdom of God’s Word. Ask:

•Why should you put God’s Word in your mind? How can you do this?

Age 9-12 ActivityOn an Adventure You will need: two or three boxes containing items used on a journey or signifying something used on a journey (examples: Matchbox car, road map, small travel bag, first aid kit, book, snack items).

Divide your class into two or three groups and give each group a box of journey items. Ask them to consider this question: “How is life like a journey?” Children should study their items and consider how they fit into the journey of life. (For example, the road map signifies the decisions we have to make to get us where we want to go. Sometimes we make wrong turns, but it is possible to turn around and head the right way again.) After several minutes, have the groups report their ideas to the whole class.

Age 6-9 ActivityCaring for the Bible Talk about God’s Word as a valu-able treasure map. Ask, “How would you treat a treasure map?”

As you read through each phrase below, ask the children to give you a “thumbs up” sign if it describes how to treat their Bibles or a “thumbs down” if it is not a proper way to treat their Bibles.

•Read it each day. •Drop it onto the floor. •Carry it to church. •Forget where you left it. •Draw doodle figures in it. •Leave it under your bed. •Toss it around. •Show it to your friends. •Memorize it.

•Rip the pages. •Handle it gently.

Age 6-9 ActivityThe Dirty Jewelry Box Hold the jewelry box and ask: “What is the most valuable thing that you can store in your mind?”

Sweep the floor and scoop the dirt into a dust pan. Dump (or pretend to dump) the dust into your jewelry box. Encourage responses. Explain that the world tries to fill their minds with many things that are not from God. He wants us to fill our minds with the valu-able wisdom of His Word. Read Proverbs 2:1-6, especially verse 6.

Age 9-12 ActivityThrough the Bible Tour Distribute copies of the Through the Bible Tour (Leader Guide, page 46) to each child. Bible Metaphor Skits(15-20 minutes)

Divide the group into four teams. Have each team plan and perform a skit that will teach the point. See if the other teams can guess what each skit demonstrates.

The Bible is like an invitation to a party (Matthew. 22:1-5). Skit idea: someone forgot to R.S.V.P. to a party and can’t get in.

The Bible is like a map giving directions for life (Isaiah 48:17). Skit idea: someone gets lost due to not looking at the map.

The Bible is like a light showing the way (Psalm 119:105). Skit idea: someone wanders in the dark without a flashlight.

The Bible is like a manual for living (Psalm 32:8). Skit idea: someone threw out instructions and can’t get something to work.

“Bibles for Others” ProjectInvite children to raise money to purchase Bibles for others. (Find out beforehand the cost of each Bible from the Gideons or a Bible Society.) Help students estimate the cost of five Bibles, ten Bibles, etc. Point out that even one Bible can change a person’s life forever. Lesson SummaryThe spiritual life is like a journey, complete with beautiful scenery, steep mountains, and exciting discoveries. Prayer is the vital communication link with God over the course of this journey.

By spending time listening to God through His Word and talking with Him about our concerns in life, we grow closer to Him and better prepared for the journey. The heart of a Christian’s relation-ship with God is often called a “Quiet Time.” During this special time, we meet alone with God, a loving Father and a needy child enjoying daily moments together.

Pray TogetherPray that your children will learn to love to meet with God daily.

Pray that God will excite them about prayer.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivityAnswered Prayers Share openly about how God has answered prayers in your life. Include dramatic examples of God’s intervention as well as those prayers that were answered after years of intercession. You may also want to cite examples of how God answered the following prayers.

Daniel . . . . . . . . . . Daniel 2:14-19 Hannah . . . . . . . .1 Samuel 1:9-20 Joshua. . . . . . . . .Joshua 10:12-14 Elijah . . . .1 Kings 17:1; 18:25-40 Hezekiah . 2 Kings 19:1-20, 34-36 Elisha . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Kings 6 Peter . . . . . . . . . . . . . Acts 9:36-43

Age 6-9 ActivityQuestions for God Ask, “If you could ask God one question, what would it be?” Write some suggestions on the board to get the gears turning:

•Exactly when will Jesus return?

•When and how will I die?

•Who will win the World Series next year?

•What is God’s favorite color?

•Why is pizza so yummy?

Age 9-12 Activity“Two Doors” Riddle Have the students work through this riddle: You are trapped in a room with only two doors labeled “door 1” and “door 2.” One leads to life, the other to certain death—but you do not know which door is which. The room also has two computers. One computer always

answers truthfully; the other always lies—but you do not know which computer is which. You may ask only one question to one of the computers (one question total) to find out which door leads to safety. What is your one question?

Answer to riddle: Ask either computer, “Which door would the other computer say is safe?”

Logic: If “door 1” is safe and you ask the truthful computer, it will answer (truthfully) that the other computer would say “door 2.” If you asked the lying computer, it would answer (falsely) that the other computer would say “door 2.” Either way, you would know that the safe door is “door 1.”

Use this to introduce a discussion about what we pray for and who we pray to.

How to Talk with God in Prayer

Big Idea: Christians pray directly to God, their loving Father.

Awesome Access

Children Will: Know • God answers every sincere prayer

(Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 7:7-8). • God wants them to pray from their

hearts about everything (Psalm 19:14; Jeremiah 29:12-13).

• A Quiet Time is the heart of a Christian’s relationship with God (Hebrews 4:16; Isaiah 40:30-31).

Feel • Excited to meet with God in prayer. • Amazed that God answers every prayer. • Eager to begin using a Quiet Time Journal each day.

Do • Decode words that help them understand prayer. • Use the “heart” acrostic to pray about everything important

to them. • Begin to meet with God in a daily Quiet Time. • Memorize John 15:7.

Memory Activity: Prepare enve-lopes containing cards on which you’ve written the words for this memory verse. Divide the class into groups of two or three. Give each group one envelope. Say “GO!” The first group to dump out their cards and get the verse(s) in the correct order is the winner. After you have verified that the cards are indeed in the correct order, recite the memory verse without looking at their cards. (This activity works best as a memory verse review, after you’ve already spent a few minutes working on it with your students.)

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Pray that God will answer the prayers of each student and that they will develop the discipline of meeting with Him daily.

Pray for the personal requests of each child.

Prayer Travels Two WaysGive a walkie-talkie to a student and send him or her down the hall to “test” the device. But just keep talking to the class and never use your walkie-talkie. Eventually the student will return (or send someone to get him or her). It didn’t work; it must be broken! No! The problem was not with the walkie-talkies, but with the person who wasn’t talking! The same is true of prayer. We must listen to God (read His Word) and we must talk with Him (pray).

Dangerous DistractionsDemonstrate the importance of focusing the mind when praying or reading the Bible. Quietly read aloud from the Bible with loud music playing in the background.

After you read, ask questions about the passage. (They shouldn’t be able to answer most of them.) Then read it again, only this time without the background music. Emphasize the importance of finding a quiet place when we read the Bible and pray. Don’t allow noises or distractions to rob us of understanding what God wants to put in our minds.

How Can You Have Your Prayers Answered?

1) John 1:12 . . . . belong to God

2) John 15:5-7 . . . walk with God

3) 1 John 5:14 . . . pray for the right things

Lesson SummaryThe Holy Spirit is the least under-stood member of the Godhead. He is the third Person in the Trinity, equal in glory, power, and holiness with Jesus and the Father.

At the moment of conversion, the Holy Spirit permanently indwells (takes up residence) in believers, empowering us to serve God. The Spirit bestows spiritual gifts, teaches, comforts, and guides our daily living.

Christians who are filled with the Holy Spirit enjoy His constant presence and a continually transformed life. No longer are Christians blinded by sin or enslaved by the sinful nature. Through the Holy Spirit, believers receive power to live godly lives.

Pray TogetherPray that the Spirit of God will have free rein during your time together. Invite Him to teach these truths to the children.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesA Gift from Heaven You will need an empty box attrac-tively wrapped as a gift. Address the gift: “TO MY DISCIPLES.” Return address: “JESUS, Heaven.”

Tell the kids that Jesus promised to send them something after He was gone. Hold up the package. Ask students what they might hope Jesus would send to help them get through the difficult times. After fielding responses, open the package. They will find

nothing, of course, but air. Explain that what Jesus sent was invisible to the human eye, but the effects would be clearly seen wherever they went—the Holy Spirit.

Age 6-9 ActivitiesDove Balloons Purchase some large, white helium-quality balloons. Draw or trace the shape of a dove on the board. Use markers to draw the outline of the dove on the balloons. Hold up a balloon that has not been inflated. Make the analogy that a person is powerless without the Holy Spirit. Blow up the balloon and let it go. Compare the force with which it flies to the Holy Spirit’s energizing power in the believer. Have fun letting the balloons zoom across the room.

Age 9-12 ActivitiesDynamite! You will need: a roll of caps or poppers. Have children remain in their seats while you conduct the demonstration at the front of the room (for their safety).

Ask what happens when someone pops caps or poppers. (It creates a tiny explosion.) Pop several caps (available at toy or hobby stores) by scraping a metal knife across them. (Watch your fingers!)

Write the word “dynamite” on the board. Explain that “dynamite” comes from dunamis, a word that means “power.” This same word refers to the power of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:8, 4:33; Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 2:4; and 2

How to be Filled with the Holy Spirit

Big Idea: Christians receive direction from God the Holy Spirit.

Awesome Guide

Children Will: Know • The Holy Spirit indwells, guides, and

empowers every Christian (John 14:16-17; 16:13; Acts 1:8).

• The Holy Spirit produces spiritual fruit within them (Galatians 5:22-23).

• The Holy Spirit convicts them of sin and helps them overcome temptation (John 16:8-11; 1 Corinthians 10:13).

• When they trust and obey God, the Holy Spirit fills (directs and empowers) their lives (Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:18-19).

Feel • Thrilled that the Holy Spirit permanently indwells them. • Motivated to trust and rely on God the Holy Spirit. • Eager to be filled with the Holy Spirit daily.

Do • Decode words that explain the ministry of the Holy Spirit. • Commit to living by and relying on the Holy Spirit. • Surrender control of their lives to God and ask Him to fill

Age 6-12 ActivitiesBalloon Shapes You will need animal-shaped balloons for each child.

Discuss how unspectacular a balloon is before it is blown up. Distribute balloons and invite students to blow up their balloons. Marvel at the different shapes that appear as the balloons are filled with air. Ask, “What is the purpose of a balloon that is not blown up?” (None.) The balloon becomes useful and transformed into a fascinating shape when we blow it up. Point out that Christians are the same way. We may have potential, but it means nothing unless we allow ourselves to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Power Source You will need: various battery-powered gadgets such as a watch, hand-held game, flashlight, pager, cordless drill, radio, etc.

Remove all batteries and store them out of sight. Tell the children that nothing seems to be working right, and you need their help to fix the situation. Try out each item and let them lend a hand until someone figures out that the batteries are missing. Ask, “Why does it matter that they don’t have batteries?” (No power source.)

Produce the batteries and try to put the wrong batteries in the items. With the children coaching, replace all the batteries and show that each tool and game now works the way it was designed. Similarly, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we work properly!

1. Empty balloons cannot fly. Demonstrate this by doing the countdown and releasing an empty balloon. Explain, “That is us without the Holy Spirit; we won’t go anywhere spiritually.”

2. Inflated balloons can fly. Inflate a balloon and hold onto it. Explain, “To go places with God, we must be filled with His Spirit. He enables us to go places with God. If we want to go far with God, aim high. Set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. Otherwise, we will get off to a great start, but soon fall.” (Release the balloon.) “Look at it go! But did you notice what happened? …It lost all the air.”

3. Inflated balloons lose their air. Inflate a balloon again and tie it closed. Explain, “While we never lose the Holy Spirit, we do need to be filled over and over again to keep flying for God.” Ask, “Why do Christians need to keep being filled with the Holy Spirit?” (We all leak!

Lesson SummaryFor nearly 2,000 years, God has been at work through local congre-gations of Christians comprising the universal body of true believers. The church is people—from different races, nations, and backgrounds—all with a similar faith. God calls people out of the world, adopts them into His universal family, and gives them a purpose in a local church.

Buildings that we call “churches” are the places where we learn about God, but we are the Church! We worship with a group of believers in local communities because we naturally want to grow in our faith. Jesus’ final command to His disciples and to all the members of the church is to proclaim Him as Lord to every nation! That’s the job we’re all working together to do!

Pray TogetherPray that children will realize how important the church is to God and how important they are to the church.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivityChurch Comparisons Explain that the Bible compares the church to a bride, a building, a family, and a body. Talk about these comparisons. Encourage students to come up with original similes (comparisons) about the church. Complete this sentence:

“The church is like a _________, because _________.”

Age 6-9 ActivityA Giant Task Ask, “Have you heard the story of Jack and the Beanstalk? Let’s build a giant on the floor.”

Have children sit, curl up, and lie down to form a large giant on the floor. Keep adding students until the shape of a giant is constructed.

“Believe it or not, this helps us understand what the church is like! Just as our giant is made up of real people, so is the church. The church is one body, is alive, and is a place where we can all serve. Jesus Christ is the head of the church and helps believers work together all over the world.

Age 9-12 ActivityQuestions about the Church Tell the kids a little about your own church experiences and back-ground. Then ask questions like:

•How long have you been going to church?

•When do you think people started going to church?

•Where and when do you think Christians started meeting?

•In what parts of the world do Christians live today?

How to Serve Jesus in the Church

Big Idea: Christians join God’s family and serve in a local church.

Awesome Family

Children Will: Know • Jesus Christ is in charge of the church

(Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 5:23). • The church consists of all true

Christians everywhere (Matt 16:18; 1 Corin 12:13-14).

• God wants local churches to grow and be strengthened (Acts 2:41-47; Ephesians 4:12-16).

• The church is God’s Family (Eph 2:19; John 1:12), Christ’s Body (Eph 1:22-23, 5:29-30), and Bride (Eph 5:25-27; Rev 19:7).

Feel • Honored to be part of God’s family and a local church. • Fascinated by the early church activities and atmosphere. • Eager to serve and help their church grow stronger.

Do • Decode words that explain what the church is like. • Identify ways churches grow strong. • Draw a picture showing one way they can be actively

involved in their local church. • Underline ministries of their local church. • Memorize Hebrews 10:24-25.

Age 6-12 ActivityThe Living Body Using a large sheet of butcher paper, trace the outline of a student volunteer. Mention the different parts of the body: hands, feet, legs, heart, and the head. Ask children to identify people who might fit into these individual roles in your church. Do not forget to include Jesus as the Head. Discuss the role that they would like to have in their local church.

Age 6-9 ActivityA Giant Opportunity Rebuild the giant (see Spark Interest) and talk about different parts of our body in relation to the areas of the Church. Examples:

Hands—for serving and giving (ushers, musicians, teachers). Feet—taking the Gospel to people far away (missionaries). Legs—supporting the work of others (janitors, managers). Heart—showing and sharing love (pastors, teachers, parents).

It takes all of us, working together to be the church!

Age 9-12 ActivitySpecial Guest

Invite a pastor, an elder, a deacon, or other church leader to speak to your students. Ask the leader to talk to the children about his or her role in the church, its impor-tance, and the significance of young people in the church. The leader also could talk about memo-ries of involvement in church as a child, how things have changed, and what things remain similar.

Memory Activity: Make two iden-tical sets of cards with the words of the Bible verse written on them, one word per card. Mix up each set of cards and place them in separate containers in different locations from which each team can draw. Draw the same number of lines (blanks) on a poster or board as the memory verse has words. Provide a roll of tape for each team. At the signal to begin, one student from each team is to draw a card, tape it on the blank where he or she thinks it belongs. The next student follows the same procedure. Any student may rearrange any number of his team’s cards during his turn. The first team to complete the verse correctly wins.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Pray that God will use each child in magnificent ways to help strengthen His church.

Pray for the personal requests of each child.

Finger PlayYour students are probably familiar with the finger play, “Here’s the church” (hands clasped with fingers inside), “here’s the steeple” (index fingers pointing up to form a steeple), “open the doors” (open your hands up). To illustrate a point in this lesson, on this last phrase instead of saying “and see all the people,” change it to say, “the church is the people” (wiggle your fingers).

Church Pictures Find pictures or drawings of church buildings and pictures of groups of people. One at a time, show the pictures to the students and ask what they see. Help them distinguish between the true church (people) and the buildings where the church meets.

Lesson SummaryEkklesia, the Greek word trans-lated “church,” means “the called-out ones” —people whom Christ called out from the world to Himself. God calls the church to set aside one day each week to gather, and He welcomes all worship that honors Him.

Throughout the Bible, when people realized that they were in God’s presence, they instinctively fell on their faces and worshiped Him. Worship is the natural human response that acknowl-edges God’s presence. The English word “worship” was originally “worthship,” denoting worthiness to receive special honor. Only God deserves worship. He created people for the express purpose of worshiping Him.

Pray TogetherPray that each child will experi-ence the joy of worshiping God as part of His church.

Pray that the children will sense God’s presence as they worship.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesBible Times Worship Bible people worshiped God in many positions. Sometimes they:

•stood up to worship God (all stand up) •raised their arms up toward heaven (stand and raise hands) •bowed their heads, closed their eyes, and folded their hands (pray briefly in this position) •knelt down to worship God

(kneel together) •got flat on their faces on the floor (all lie down)

All of these are good ways to worship God. Which ones feel most comfortable to you? The impor-tant thing about worship is not the position of your body but the attitude of your heart. God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth. He wants our hearts to be honest and clean. He wants us to pay attention and participate when we are in worship services.

Age 6-9 ActivitiesWays to Worship Ask the children to see how many ways they can think of that people

can worship God. Encourage them to be creative and respectful. List these and others on the board: singing, praying, giving, teaching, communion, baptism, fellowship, reading Scriptures, etc.

Age 9-12 ActivitiesReasons to Worship Distribute pencils and pieces of paper to each child. Challenge kids to write down as many reasons that God is worthy of worship as they can in one minute. Share your ideas together afterwards. You may want to offer a small reward to the student who comes up with the most good reasons to worship God.

How to Honor and Respect God

Big Idea: Christians worship God in spirit and in truth.

Awesome Worship

Children Will: Know • God meets with people who worship

Him (Matthew 18:20; Zephaniah 3:17). • God created people to worship Him

with their words and deeds (Psalm 86:9; 100:1-2; John 4:23-24).

• In holy communion, Christians remember what Christ did for them (1 Corinthians 11:24-30; Luke 22:14-20).

• In baptism, Christians publicly identify themselves as followers of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:1-5; Acts 22:16).

Feel • Determined to honor God in their personal and public worship.

• Eager to worship God with their hearts and minds. • Rejuvenated about the significance of Christian

communion. • Pleased to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Do • Decode words that explain worship. • Worship God by reading Psalm 103 privately. • Examine their lives and confess any sins. • Observe or participate in communion and baptism

ceremonies. • Memorize John 4:23.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesBaptism Discussion Describe your own baptism experi-ence. Tell why you wanted to be baptized, when, where, and who baptized you, and what it was like. (Children will be very interested in these factual tidbits.) Invite the kids to relate their own baptism experiences.

Special Class Guest If you prefer, invite a pastor or another church leader to visit your class to explain baptism and communion. Though they have probably experienced it, the students may have never heard

a clear explanation of how and why baptism and communion are important in your church.

Age 9-12 ActivityShowing God’s Worth Provide sheets of paper for each child. Fold the paper into three sections. In the first section, have the kids describe or draw an object that is very valuable—either something they have, or would like to have. Second, write the name or draw a picture of a person who is very valuable to them—parent, teacher, friend, etc. Third, write or draw a way that they can show the person in the second section that they are worth a lot to them, but without spending any money on them. A gift that costs money is not allowed. This will challenge some! After they are done, talk about how worship is “a show of worth.” Worship is anything we do that shows God how much He is worth to us. Make a list of kids’ ideas to show God how much He is worth to them.

“Live” ExperienceObserve or participate in a baptism or communion service together. Give students paper and pencils before the service begins and ask them to write down thoughts, key words and questions they may have during the service. Discuss the experience together afterward.

SnackYou will need: whole loaf of shep-herd’s bread (10-15 minutes)

The first group of Christians broke bread together. Provide a loaf of unsliced bread to share with your students. Explain communion to them in a clear and understand-able way.

Acts of ObedienceIntroduce the A-B-Cs of obedience. Explain that God wants people to:

“A” —accept His salvation.

“B” —be baptized to show God and others that they are willing to follow and obey Him.

“C” —communicate to other people about Him so they too can be forgiven and receive a new life.

Ask, “What act of obedience does God want them to do?”

Lesson SummaryJesus Christ commanded His followers to love each other—so that the world would know we are His disciples. That love is often expressed in the rich fellowship between believers. Fellowship means “sharing something with someone.” Christians are interde-pendent, a community of people who share our lives and posses-sions with each other.

Every person in the church is important and has a special job. God’s Spirit has given each Christian at least one spiritual gift to serve others. It is our privilege to joyfully reinvest the talents that He has given us by fully devel-oping and using those gifts.

Pray TogetherPray that the children will desire, discover, and use their spiritual gifts for others.

Pray that they will be generous with their possessions and time.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivitySuper Heroes! Distribute paper and markers or colored pencils. Ask children to draw themselves as a super hero and describe what super powers they would like to have (such as the ability to fly, be invisible, super strength, etc.) Emphasize that this is just a fun activity, so those who are not artistic are not discouraged from drawing. After several minutes, talk about what they drew and why. Then discuss how God has given all of us super-

natural powers! Supernatural means “not natural.” We receive them when we become Christians. (And we don’t have to wear a flowing cape or mask to use them!)

Age 6-9 ActivityGifts from God Wrap three empty gift boxes very attractively. Put them in a visible place for children to see when they enter the room. Introduce the topic of spiritual gifts by saying that God has given each Christian at least one special gift. Today we are going to take steps to discover what they are. As one child reads Ephesians 4:11, another child can

write one gift name on each panel of a wrapped gift. Continue with 1 Corin 12:28 and Romans 12:6-8.

Age 9-12 ActivitySpecial Needs Clip articles from your local news-paper that mention a special need. As you read the articles to your students, help them identify the special need in each. Ask, “Do you have the ability or gift to help meet this need?” Talk about how the kids could help meet this need.

How to Discover Spiritual Gifts

Big Idea: Christians use their special gifts to serve people in need.

Awesome Abilities

Children Will: Know • Spiritual gifts are supernatural

abilities that the Holy Spirit gives to every Christian (1 Corin 12:11; 1 Peter 4:10).

• Spiritual gifts promote active teamwork in the church (1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corin-thians 12:7).

• Spiritual gifts help Christians lead, serve, and testify about God to others (Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Corinthians 12:26-30).

• Without the motivation of love, spiritual gifts are worthless (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

• Christians give generously to God’s work around the world (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

Feel • Excited about discovering and using their spiritual gifts. • Confident that God has given them the gifts they need to do

the work He wants them to do. • Eager to give their time, talents, and money to God.

Do • Ask God to help them discover their spiritual gifts. • Identify skills that God has given to them that they would

like to improve. • Find names of ten or more spiritual gifts in a word puzzle. • Establish a plan for giving some of their money to God’s

work. • Memorize 1 Peter 4:10.

Family Servants Ask children to write the names of everyone in their families, including themselves. Then list ways that each person serves others in the family. Encourage them to write two ways they can serve each family member.

Age 6-9 ActivityServing Others Jesus measures greatness by a person’s willingness to trust Him and to serve people. He came to serve people and to give His life for them. Help students think of three ways they can serve others. You may want to give them a phone call during the week to remind them to seek opportunities to serve.

Age 9-12 ActivityGift of Intercession Set up prayer stations around your room or building. At each station, place posters that highlight a special need. List facts and prayer needs on the posters. Supplement these with pictures and objects. Divide students into groups and, with a leader, visit each station to pray. After the prayer walk, take time to debrief the students.

Memory Activity: Write each word of the verse on a separate 3” x 5” card. Stretch a clothesline across the room with as many clothespins as there are cards. Shuffle the cards and allow students to pin them to the line in order. Timing them with a stop-watch adds to the excitement.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Pray that God will greatly multiply the gifts and talents that He has given to each child.

Pray for the personal requests of each child.

How Spiritual Gifts WorkYou will need lots of wadded-up paper balls with masking tape on outer layer, or soft balls that can be thrown without hurting anyone.

Split the children and the balls into two groups of equal size. Divide the room with a line of tape on the floor. On “Go!” the kids try to throw as many balls to the other side as possible before the time is up. Let them go at it for several minutes, and then blow a whistle to stop the throwing. (Any balls thrown after the whistle will count as double against the team throwing them!) Count the balls and see which side has the least balls—they win. If the teams are even, after much throwing, the number of balls will be very close.

The point: If we are all busy serving and using our gifts, we receive as much as we give. In the end, everyone will have plenty of what he or she needs.

Service DayDiscuss what jobs your children can do to serve others who may not be able to work themselves. Some ideas might include: raking leaves, mowing lawns, washing windows, painting, etc. Plan a “servant day” so everyone can participate.

Lesson SummaryMany Christians act as if they were intended to be the Gospel’s final recipient. They eagerly receive the Good News but never pass it on. They forget that the same blessings they have received in Christ are for the rest of the world too. All religions do not lead to God and salvation.

The Scriptures are clear that our ways are not God’s ways and that God’s way is through Jesus. He is the only way to heaven! Millions upon millions of people remain in bondage because they have never heard the news of freedom and forgiveness in Christ. God wants everyone to have an opportunity to trust in Christ and to enjoy an eternal relationship with Him. It is our privilege to share Jesus with those still waiting to hear.

Pray TogetherPray that God will plant a desire within your children to tell their friends about Jesus.

Age 6-12 ActivityFishers of Men You will need a variety of fishing gear. You may also want to invite a seasoned angler to tell the kids about the art of fishing.

After you explain aspects of how to catch fish, read Matthew 4:19. Talk about what Jesus meant when He invited these fishermen to be His followers. How are fishing for fish and fishing for people similar and different?

Age 6-9 ActivityThe Road to Heaven Distribute roadmaps to students. Ask them to identify two places on opposite ends of their map and count how many ways to get from one to the other.

Explain that on earth there are lots of ways to get from one place to another; you’ll eventually arrive where you want to go.

Many people think that all roads—all beliefs—eventually lead to God. But the Bible says that there is only one road that leads to God and eternal life. Look up John 14:6 and Acts 4:12 to see what it is.

Age 9-12 ActivityWhy do All people need Jesus? Talk about what sets Christianity apart from other religions. Christianity involves a relation-ship with God—not religious practices and attempts to please God by works. In Christianity, God came down to help people. In other faiths, people attempt to work their way to God. Only Christians can be certain that God has forgiven their sins. Jesus died so that all people can be free from the burden of their sins, and rose again to give people new life! To top it all off, Christianity is the only religion whose founder is still alive!

How to Tell Others about Jesus

Big Idea: Christians tell the world that Jesus is their Savior.

Awesome Mission

Children Will: Know • Jesus told His followers to make

disciples from people of every nation (Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 6:19-20).

• The Holy Spirit empowers Christians to tell people everywhere the Good News about Jesus (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:4-5).

• There are many ways to share the Good News, but the salvation message never changes (1 Peter 3:15; Romans 1:16).

• People who trust Jesus to forgive their sins will live forever in heaven, but those who do not believe will face eternity in hell (Matthew 25:34, 41; Daniel 12:2).

Feel • Excited to be a messenger from God to people who need Him.

• Eager to share their faith in Jesus with their friends. • Concern for the many people who live in spiritual darkness.

Do • Name three people who need to hear about Jesus, and write down creative ways to tell them.

• Explain the Good News about Jesus to one person they know.

• Use the decoder to identify key evangelism principles and summarize the Gospel message.

Prayer Circle Invite students to form a circle with their arms around each other’s shoulders. Remind them that our unity will be one thing that demonstrates the Gospel to the world. Begin a prayer asking God to help the class reach their friends with the Gospel. Pray: “Lord, use us to take Your message to...” and then say the name of a person you care about. Go around the circle, with each student saying the first name of a person they want to come to

Christ. End the prayer with a loud “amen” in unison.

Age 6-9 ActivityGospel Role Play Have the children practice sharing and receiving the Good News about Jesus. They can use a Gospel bracelet, a wordless book, or the summary on page 34 to help them through a presentation. Make a Gospel Bracelet

You will need: leather strips and colored beads to make bracelets.

Put the beads in this order to help them share the Gospel.

•Purple: God loves you. He wants to be your friend.

•Black: God knows you. Everyone sins against Him and must pay the penalty.

•Red: Jesus took your place. He died to forgive your sins and took punishment you deserved.

•White: Jesus cleans your heart. When you receive God’s gift of salvation, He gives you new life.

•Gold: God gives rewards. Receive rewards in heaven for your service to God on earth.

•Green: God wants you to grow. Read the Bible, pray, and obey.

•Blue: Jesus is coming again! Wait for His return in the sky.

Challenge students to wear the bracelet and look for opportunities to share the message. Start the conversation by asking: “Do you know what each of these beads means?” Or, “Do you want to hear the greatest news in the world?”

(Note: your local Christian book-store may sell bracelet kits.)

Clock Object LessonYou will need a mechanical clock such as a wind-up or mantle clock.

Open the clock to reveal its move-ment and inner gear assembly. Talk about the fascinating way all the pieces work with each other. Point out that there is no friction or competition between the parts, but that they cooperate beautifully with each other, Explain that this is how God wants His children to work together to bring the Good News about Jesus to all people.

Lesson SummaryChristians can view obedience as either an obligation to be endured or an opportunity to be empow-ered. The key to victory over sin is living by faith in Jesus Christ.

At the moment of spiritual birth, God miraculously places new believers into Christ. His righ-teousness replaces our sinfulness. Christ takes responsibility for our sin and we get credit for His righ-teous standing before God.

The Christian life is Christ’s life. Christ, Himself, indwells, empowers and transforms every Christian. The key to living victoriously over sin and self is being crucified with Christ. Jesus lives His resurrected life through Christians who are dead to self and alive to Him.

Pray TogetherPray that God will give the chil-dren a new perspective of what it means to love and obey Him.

Pray that Christ will empower them to live victoriously over sin.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesTrust Fall (Note: Practice this exercise before demonstrating it in class.)

Ask for a volunteer who is willing to trust you. Tell him or her to stand sideways in front of the others (optional: use a blindfold). Stand about three feet behind the volunteer and say, “Fall backwards and I’ll catch you.” After successfully catching the

child, explain that he or she has displayed trust or faith. People place their safety into the hands of another because they trust that person. Say, “Today we are going to learn about falling into the arms of God. Do you think God can be trusted?” (Discuss.)

Our True Identity As an opening activity, give each student a 3” x 5” card and have them create a personal I.D. card. Take a picture of each student and let them paste it to the card. Use the I.D. card to introduce their identity in Christ. Just as an I.D. card tells people about us—our name, where we live, what we look like, etc., our identity in Christ should also be evident to people—the Name we bear (Jesus), our

ultimate home (heaven), and how we act as Christians.

Age 6-9 ActivityPosters with an Attitude You will need: magazines, scissors, glue, two posters one titled “Right” and the other “Wrong.”

Invite students to find and cut out pictures or symbols that represent right and wrong attitudes, activi-ties, and ideas. Glue them to the appropriate posters. Discuss each item on the posters, especially those on the “wrong” poster.

How do we know which behaviors are right and wrong? Who decides? Discuss the laws of the land, the authority of parents, the rules at school, the Bible, etc.

Big Idea: Christians deny themselves and live for God each day.

Awesome Disciple

Children Will: Know • Disciples put Jesus first in every area of

their lives (Matthew 6:33; 16:24-25). • God gives every person human leaders

to obey (Ephesians 6:1,5; Romans 13:1). • When they obey their leaders, they

show God that they love Him (Hebrews 13:17; John 14:21).

• Jesus lives His resurrected life through Christians who are dead to self and alive to Him (Galatians 2:20; Romans 6:11-14).

• Obedience means doing what they are told when they are told—with a good attitude (John 14:21; Philippians 2:13).

Feel • Determined to obey God and their human leaders. • Courageous to resist Satan’s temptations. • Empowered to live victoriously in the Spirit.

Do • Consecrate (totally commit) themselves to God. • Decode words that describe Jesus’ disciples. • Find areas of their lives in which they struggle to obey God. • Identify the names of leaders who have authority over

them. • Memorize Galatians 2:20.

Age 9-12: Talk about situations when they have trouble knowing whom to obey.

Bible Verse: Work together to begin memorizing this verse.

Inspire ActionSelect one of these activities to encourage students to apply the main Bible truth to their lives.

Age 6-12 ActivityFuneral for the Old Self Create a shoe box casket for the old self. Have each student fill out a certificate for his or her old self, signifying that the old self died in Christ on the cross. Fill the box with slips of paper that describe a character trait of the old self. (See Colossians 3:8-9 for ideas.) Have a procession around the room or even outside. Bury the shoe box casket in the dirt or under a pile of Styrofoam peanuts or other synthetic dirt! Sing a dirge for the old self and a song of praise for the new self God has placed within!

Age 6-9 ActivityYou will need: a lump of soft clay, a breakable earthenware flower pot, newspaper.

Discreetly place a layer of news-paper on the floor in front of you. Hold up the soft clay and ask the

children, “If our hearts are like this clay, can God shape them?” (Yes.) Now pick up the earthen-ware pot. Drop it suddenly (on the newspaper). Pick up a piece of broken pottery and pass it around. “If our hearts are hard like this, can God shape them? What can we do to keep our hearts soft like clay? (Invite responses.)

Age 9-12 ActivityLife Verse One of the best ways to avoid temptation is to focus on doing right instead of “not doing wrong.” Work with your children to search the Bible for excellent verses they could focus on for a whole lifetime. Let each child pick one, write it on an index card and save it in their own Bible. Challenge students to ask God every day to help them obey this verse. Possible verses: Proverbs 3:5-6; Micah 6:8; Acts 20:24; Matt 22:37-38; 1 Tim 4:12.

Memorize Bible VerseUse your favorite Bible translation to teach and rehearse this new Bible memory verse.

Topic: Awesome Disciple

Reference: Galatians 2:20

Memory Activity: Write each word of the verse (plus the refer-ence) in bold letters on a separate 3” x 5” card. Stretch a clothesline across the front of the room with as many clothespins pinned to the line as there are cards. Have the class say the verse three times together, first reading it, then with Bibles closed, and finally without your help. Shuffle the cards and allow one student to pin them to the line in order. Allow several students to try it, timing them to add excitement.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Pray that Christ will live His resurrected life through you and your students.

Pray for the personal requests of each child.

“Leader Says”Play the traditional Simon Says game, only replace Simon’s name with your own—such as “Karl Says.” Tell them, “If I say ‘Karl Says’ you do whatever I say. If I give a command without saying ‘Karl Says’, don’t obey it. If you do, you must sit down. The last one standing wins.”

Give instructions such as “stand up,” “sit down,” “raise your left arm,” “hold your nose,” etc. but precede each command with either “Karl Says” or just the command alone. Continue until you have one winner or time is up. Award the winner(s). Then talk about how we get a lot of commands daily in life, from many sources. We need to listen carefully and only obey the commands that could have “God says” in front of them. If God wouldn’t want them to do some-thing, they may find themselves outside of God’s best plan for their lives, or they may miss out on some of the great things that He wants for them.

Creative RetortsBelievers have a new freedom from sin, the freedom to say “No!” That “no” might occur inside the heart or it might be a verbal decla-ration in the face of temptation. For the latter, allow your students to practice creatively saying “No.” For example: •When tempted to criticize another person, a student might tell the tempter, “No thanks, I like him/her better than you do. (And Jesus does too!)” •When faced with a desire to shoplift an item, a child might say, “No thanks. With all my money, I might as well just buy it!” •When lured to lie and cover up a mistake, a believer might say, “Telling the truth now is a lot less embarrassing than explaining later how I cooperated with you!”

Lesson SummaryGod is in control of the future. We know that as the last days come, wickedness in the world will increase. Sadness and pain will continue to the very end. But God will not abandon His people or His plan. Jesus will return to judge the world and establish His eternal Kingdom. God’s amazing plan for the future will result in Christ’s reign as King of kings and Lord of lords!

Until then, Jesus calls us to walk in His steps—regardless of the situation. Our conduct and priori-ties are to mirror His own. As we accompany Him each day, we wear protective spiritual armor and can anticipate opportunities to serve Him and to suffer for Him.

Pray TogetherPray that God will reveal His grand plan to each child.

Pray that children will look for opportunities to serve God and people each day.

Spark InterestSelect one of these activities to whet the appetite and generate student interest in this topic.

Age 6-12 ActivitiesWorth Waiting For Ask students to think about something they wanted to do so badly that they went to extreme measures to see it happen. Perhaps some saved money for a trip or large purchase, or practiced tirelessly to make a team. What did they endure to make their desire a reality? How long did they stay at it? Who inspired them to keep plugging away?

Leave it Behind Everything bad about life on earth is either directly, or indirectly a result of sin. Have students list things on earth they are glad will not be in heaven.

Age 6-9 ActivityPicture Heaven Invite children to tell you what they think heaven is like. After this discussion, hand out paper and crayons, and give them an opportunity to draw what they think heaven will look like. (For ideas, read verses aloud from Revelation 21 and 22.) Don’t debate theological fine points at this stage. The purpose of this exercise is to engage the children’s imaginations.

Age 9-12 ActivityEarthly Awards You will need: high school, college, or other achievement awards.

Display the awards on a table in the classroom before the children arrive. Share the story behind each of your awards. Ask for volunteers to tell about awards they have received. Then engage children in a discussion with questions like: Does God give out awards? How do you earn awards from God? When will He give them out?

Explain that someday the Lord will evaluate our lives and reward us according to what we have done on earth.

How to Fulfill God’s Grand Plan

Big Idea: Christians walk with God and lay up treasures in heaven.

Awesome Future

Children Will: Know • Spiritual armor protects Christians in

the battle against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:10-18; Romans 12:1-2).

• Jesus will reward Christians for serving Him on earth (2 Corin 5:10; 1 Corin 3:10-15).

• Christians can lay up treasures in heaven every day (Matthew 6:19-21).

• God’s special plan for them includes opportunities to serve and to suffer (Jeremiah 29:11; 2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Feel • Safe from attacks from evil forces while wearing their armor.

• Excited about doing things to lay up treasures in heaven. • Thankful that God has a plan to guide their lives. • Amazed that God keeps track of everything they do.

Do • Decode words that explain heavenly rewards. • Draw or describe how they can serve Jesus with their lives. • Identify each piece of their spiritual armor. • Describe what happens to earthly and heavenly treasures. • Memorize Jeremiah 29:11.

Explore More: Invite your kids to dream big about ways God could use them.

Bible Verse: Work together to begin memorizing this verse.

Inspire ActionSelect one of these activities to encourage students to apply the main Bible truth to their lives.

Age 6-12 ActivityGod’s Word vs. the World You will need: a Bible, a globe or small world map, a dollar bill, a wristwatch, a cookie.

Place the Bible and globe on a table. Point out that the world often tells us things that disagree with what God has said in His Word. Holding the dollar bill over the Bible, tell students that God’s Word teaches us what we should and should not do with money. Now hold the dollar bill over the globe. Explain that the world has different ideas about what we should do with money. Place the bill on the Bible.

Follow the same steps with the wristwatch (representing our time) and the cookie (representing pleasure, physical bodies, etc.). Emphasize the fact that we face many choices every day. When we obey what the Bible says, we are choosing God’s way. Disobeying God’s Word is choosing the way of

the world. Emphasize that God’s way will lead to His blessings.

Age 6-9 ActivityEncouragement Crowns You will need: gold metallic poster board, glue, glitter, stickers, markers, tape, scissors.

Make and decorate simple crowns. Write Revelation 2:10c on them. Encourage kids to keep them as reminders of God’s promise.

Age 9-12 ActivityPromise Beads You will need beads with a small hole and a ball of string.

God is the greatest promise-keeper of all! We know that God will keep all His promises (2 Corin 1:20). He won’t forget one single promise!

Thread the beads onto the string as you discuss God’s promises for the future. Let each bead represent one promises that God has made about the future. The bracelets will remind kids of God’s wonderful plan and the promises He has made about the future!

Memorize Bible VerseUse your favorite Bible translation to teach and rehearse this new Bible memory verse.

Topic: Awesome Future

Reference: Jeremiah 29:11

Memory Activity: Divide the class into two teams and have them face each other on opposite ends of the room. The object is for teams to say (or shout!) the verse to each other by alternating every other word. Team A should call out the first word of the verse, while team B responds with the second word, and so forth. Go through the verse several times, working to say it quickly and smoothly.

Pray for Life-ChangeConclude your session with conver-sational prayer.

Pray that they will choose God’s very best for their lives and faith-fully follow God’s plan.

Pray for the personal requests of each child.

Follow God’s RecipeYou will need: a simple recipe for something sweet and delicious.

Choose a recipe that includes a number of steps to follow. (A layered dessert, salad, or main dish would work well for this.) Bring in the ingredients and supplies needed and have students follow the recipe to prepare the food. During or after cooking, discuss how the step-by-step process (if followed carefully) resulted in the finished product. Help students understand the similarities between the recipe and our lives. Emphasize the fact that God has a “recipe” for our lives. If we follow His directions step-by-step, the result will be a useful “product” that God can use for His glory.

Personal TimelineYou will need: a sheet of paper for each child and drawing materials.

Your students will draw a timeline of their lives. Have them turn the paper horizontally and draw a line the length of the page. On the far left side, each child should draw a picture of what he or she looked like as a baby. A little farther over to the right, they should draw themselves in kindergarten, perhaps playing a favorite game. In the middle of the page, they should draw themselves as they are today, with a good friend.

Call their attention to the blank right side of their papers. This is the future, and only God knows what is in store for us there.

Lesson SummaryCongratulations! You have guided a child or children through the essential steps of discipleship. This final lesson provides you with opportunities to review the material you have communicated previously and to reinforce the foundation concepts that will spur them on to continued spiritual growth and maturity.

Pray TogetherPray that God will solidify the concepts that the students have learned through My Awesome Adventure.

Pray that the children will continue to live the abundant Christian life each day.

Review ActivitiesMake this final time together memorable for your students. You may want to consider combining several of these options:

1. Graduation CeremonyPlan a formal or informal event to honor the students who have completed this course of study and have begun to implement the principles into their daily lives. You may want to recognize these graduates in front of your church during a worship service. Ask chil-dren to recite their memory verses or report on some things they have learned during this course of study. As you conclude, pray for their continued progress and growth as Jesus’ disciples.

2. Class PartyInvite parents, friends, and others to an “open house” party in honor of the kids who have successfully completed their My Awesome Adventure lessons and are walking victoriously with the Lord. Create a party atmosphere with decorations, snacks and other special effects that will promote a festive atmosphere.

3. The Six Habits(See page 32 of this Leader Guide and the inside back cover of student workbooks.) This page provides an overview of the six disciplines and all twelve memory verses that My Awesome Adventure intro-duces. It will prove to be a very helpful reminder and summary of the principles from their entire Adventure. Encourage kids to place this page in a prominent place to remind them of these six habits.

4. My Growth Goals(Distribute photocopies of page 33 of this Leader Guide.) Challenge students to continue walking with Jesus and to keep a record of their growth goals. Stay in touch with each child periodically and see how he or she is progressing.

5. Review GameUse the Learner Targets from each lesson to create questions to quiz students on what they have learned and done. You may want to play Bible Baseball, Tic-Tac-Toe, or some other game with these questions. Adapt the game to your students’ interests and needs. Be sure to include both “head” and “heart” questions.

6. My TestimonyAsk children to write out their salvation testimony. It should include:

•Description of child’s life before meeting Christ.

•How child heard the Gospel, where he or she was, who shared with him or her.

•Summary of the Gospel presen-tation the child heard. (Note: After listening to the testimony, people should know how to accept Christ themselves! “I accepted Jesus” will not do.)

•Description of the child’s life after accepting Christ. What is different? How is Christ a part of his or her daily life now?

7. Service ProjectDecide on an appropriate project that all your kids can participate in. Check with organizations and ministries that might benefit from your disciples’ involvement.

Tips for Sharing Christwith Children•Remember that Jesus welcomes

children to come to Him (Matthew 19:14).

•Pray before sharing to prepare yourown heart and sensitivity.

•Discern each child’s spiritual condi-tion: Ready to respond? Strugglingto understand? Resistant?

•Open the Bible and use it to clearlyshare the gospel. Focus on trustingChrist (rather than simply prayingor inviting Him into their physicalheart or saying the right words).

•Encourage a child to express his orher faith (trust) in Jesus throughprayer.

•Use visuals, such as a bridge illustra-tion, a wordless book, gospelbracelet, or diagrams to helpcommunicate difficult words andconcepts to children.

•After a child responds to God’soffer of forgiveness, encouragepublic profession of faith in Christto friends, family, and others.

•Deal with children individually.Thishelps to clarify their motives andknow they are trusting Christrather than imitating their friends.

•Go through the gospel presentationtwice. Explain the Good News thefirst time. Then, review the gospeland offer an opportunity torespond the second time.

•Don’t manipulate a child to simplydo what you want. Discern theheart attitude and present thegospel to those you consider readyto trust Christ.

God has a message for you!You can have a friendship with Him.

God cares about you.God is powerful. He created everything—including you.

(See Genesis 1:1; Romans 1:20.)

God is personal. He loves you and wants to be your Friend.(See John 3:16, 15:13.)

God knows you.Every person sins against God.

(See Romans 3:23; Daniel 9:4-5.)

Every person will pay for sin—including you.(See Romans 5:12, 6:23.)

Jesus took your place.Jesus left heaven to bring you hope. (See Matt 1:21; John 10:10.)He lived a sinless life on earth. (See 1 Peter 2:22.)

Jesus died and rose again to forgive your sin. (See Romans 5:8.)He took the punishment you deserved. (See 1 Peter 2:24.)

Jesus offers you new life! You can trust Jesus and become God’s child.

(See John 1:12, 14:6.)

You can trust Jesus and receive new life.(See John 5:24; 2 Corinthians 5:17.)

Are you ready to trust Jesus as your Savior? If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, a good way to express yourfaith and to begin your new friendship is by praying—talking with God.

•Admit that you have sinned and need forgiveness.•Thank God for sending Jesus to die on the cross to forgive your sins.•Tell God that you trust Jesus as your Savior and you choose to follow Him.•Thank God for adopting you into His family and for giving you new life.•Ask God to make you the kind of person He wants you to be.

Jesus empowers you.Jesus lives forever inside you.

(See Galatians 2:20; John 10:28, 15:5.)

The Holy Spirit will always guide you.(See John 16:13;Acts 1:8.)

Memory FormulaDevelop a good habit! Use this formula to memorize Bible verses:

T + R + V + RT - topic “Awesome God”

R - reference “1 Chronicles 29:11”

V - verse “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness…”

R - reference “1 Chronicles 29:11”

Memorize the topic (T) and reference (R) as if they are part of the verse (V). Learning them together will help you remember where to find the verse in the Bible. Plus, you will be able to recall one important truth that each verse teaches. Every time you review verses and when you learn new verses, recite the topic and reference too!

T + R + V + R

Classroom Memory Verse ProcedureWrite the previous Bible verse on the board or display it on a sheet of poster board. As students arrive, have them review the verse. Tell them that there will be a “test” when class begins. After you open with a time of prayer, erase the verse and distribute index cards and pencils to each child. Give students one minute to write out the verse. Collect the cards, and at the end of class award a candy bar or other incentive to those who got the verse “word perfect.”

Dear Parents,

Your child is beginning a journey that has the potential of redirecting his or her life—forever. Whether you disciple your own child through the My Awesome Adventure, or another adult who loves your child takes him or her through this material, you are an essential part of the discipleship process!

Be involved as much as possible. Pray for and with your child about his or her walk with God and spiritual growth. Take time to discuss each lesson. Talk about what your child learned soon after each lesson. Quiz him on his memory work; affirm her when she applies lessons to her life. Genuine compli-ments from you will go a long way to encourage your child to keep progressing.

Expect children to be less than perfect. Remember, God is more concerned with our direction than He is with our position. Encourage your child to be honest about his or her thoughts and ideas. What a great opportunity to help your child move ahead spiritually and enable him or her develop habits that will propel him or her for life!

All twelve lessons introduce a vital element of the Christian life. They could make a dramatic spiritual impact on your child. The depth to which your child will apply these lessons depends largely on your encouragement as a parent. Make the most of this opportunity and you will see its fruit for years to come!

Sincerely,

Deuteronomy 11:18-19

Begin the Awesome Adventure of Christian Discipleship!

Put on your hiking shoes and travel over rugged terrain to discover what it really means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. During this

adventure, your children will be introduced to the essential “how-to’s” of the faith. They will learn about God, spiritual growth,

the church, and the opportunity to fulfill God’s awesome plan for their lives.

Each My Awesome Adventure lesson introduces one new topic (12 in all) that is foundational for Christian discipleship. This is also a powerful follow-up resource for new Christians or for kids who

are not yet grounded in the Christian life.
