Purpose of research

To examine the print media outcrop to sexual harassment cases happened in recent months (A.K. Ganguly and Tarun Tejpal cases in 2013).

To find out the extent of coverage and treatment given to crime-against- women news.

Objectives I. To study the coverage of news in sexual harassment two English dailies of Bhopal. II. To find out the projection and treatment given to the sexual harassment news by two

English dailies of Bhopal. III. To study the comparative analysis of two English newspapers in terms of their coverage

on both A.K. Ganguly and Tarun Tejpal cases.

Research Methodology

• Comparative breakdown of front of two newspapers (Times of India & Indian Express) for 20 days from Nov 11 to 30, 2013 on regular basis.

• To achieve the objective we have taken the help of content analysis method. The non-probability sampling was adopted to choose the sample. The method of purposive sampling was used in the study.

Parameters studied:

1. Number of sexual harassment news on front page. 2. Column priority given to sexual harassment news. 3. Sources of news related to sexual harassment. 4. Sexual harassment stories with or without pictures. 5. Sexual harassment stories with value added features (Info-graphic, Logo).

Press enjoys freedom to speech and expression under Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution of India. But Article 19(2) lists the various grounds on which free speech can be restricted, E.g.. Defamation Causing injury to the reputation of a person or a company using false statements or actions. No special privileges against defamation on account of being a journalist or a media organization.

Recommendations

• Equal weight to all the related cases

• No attempts must be made to defame any individual or organization

• Reflex effects of media need to be handled with optimism

• Responsibility of media shall first be service and then business

• No violation of journalistic ethics
