PLATINUM JUBILEE YEAR (75TH) OF KASEGAON EDUCATION SOCIETY

Kasegaon Education Society is one of the leading educational society in Western Maharastra. It was established by a leading statesman, Late Shri. Rajarambapu Patil in 1945. Considering the need of time, the Society focused attention on taking the education to the threshold of the rural masses by starting schools in the nearby villages and a hostel for backward class students at Kasegaon.

After the untimely and sad demise of Shri. Rajarambapu Patil in 1984, it was Shri. Jayant Patil, his son, who alike his father entered his public life through educational activities. He shouldered the responsibility of Kasegaon Education Society. Shri Jayant Patil took the Society with time, diversifying its educational facilities. Today the Society has 31 primary & secondary schools and 15 higher educational institutes under its roof. This includes mainly three arts, commerce & science colleges, two information technology institutes, an engineering college, a polytechnic, two management institutes, a nursing institute, an agricultural polytechnic, a pharmacy college and an international school.

The Society has been conferred with prestigious awards like 'Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Dalitmitra Puraskar', 'State award for Educational Institutes'. Certicates of appreciation have been also awarded to the Society by C-DAC & MKCL for its exemplary contribution towards computer literacy.

CENTENARY BIRTH YEAR (100TH) OF LATE HON. RAJARAMBAPU PATIL

Rajarambapu was born on 1st August 1920 in a small village of Satara District. At the age of 25 he completed his LAW Graduation from Kolhapur. With the dedication for educational facilities for rural students, he started Kasegaon Education Society in the year 1945 and Azad Vidyalaya along with Sarvodaya Vasatigrah a free hostel for poor and needy students from nearby villages.

He was leader of masses, very much interested in social development. Not only education but he realized the importance of co-operative movement, and established Walwa Co-operative Sugar Factory (now known as Rajarambapu Co-operative Sugar Factory), Milk co-operative Sangha to upgrade the life standards of farmers. He started Rajarambapu Sahakari Bank (Formerly known as Walwa Co-operative Bank) to meet there economical needs and then Walwa Co-operative Spinning Mill this highlights his vision towards development. He was a Minister in Maharashtra Government between 1962 to 1970 and again in 1978. He is popularly known as “LOKNETA” (Leader of masses). He truly used politics for upliftment of masses by his great work in the eld of Education, Social Work, Co-operative Industries, Irrigation Schemes and Infrastructural Facilities. .............and this grate leader left for heavenly abode on 17th January 1984.

Change in Nomenclature

With effect from academic year 2019-20, the UG and PG degrees offered by the department have been changed to B. Tech. Mechanical Engineering (Automobile) and M. Tech. Mechanical Engineering (Automobile)

Reasons for change in nomenclature

Looking to the present scenario, industries are demanding diversied engineering graduates which will be in position to take any responsibility. The present Automobile Engineering curriculum focuses on study, design, and maintenance of various systems of automobile as a specialized branch of Mechanical Engineering. All automobile and mechanical engineering companies are demanding the graduates who are well conversant with automobile as well as mechanical engineering background. Automobile Engineering graduates are supposed to handle mechanical systems also, apart from their specialization in automotive eld. Present industry scenario demands the knowledge of interdisciplinary eld, e.g. knowledge of electronics, electrical engineering etc. Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) demands the engineering graduates should know the applications of IoT, mechatronics, automation etc.

Hence, looking to this requirement; the nomenclature has been changed from “Automobile Engineering” to “Mechanical Engineering Automobile”. In the curriculum of revised nomenclature, appropriate courses have been incorporated according to the demand.

Autonomous Electric Vehicle Project

Autonomous Electric Vehicle (AEV) project started in RIT in collaboration with National Electronics System Design Manufacturing Technology Research Academy (NETRA) in 2018. This project involved about 50 students working in 11 sub projects guided by 11 faculties from 7 departments namely, Mechanical, Automobile, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Civil and IT spearheaded by Dr. Sham Gurav under the guidance of Mr.Vivek Sabnis. The faculty advisors were Prof. K. S. Kulkarni (IT), Prof. S. S. Howal (CSE), Prof. M.M. Maske (Civil), Prof. U. A. Kamerikar (ETC), Prof. S. M. Magdum (ETC), Prof. Dr. S. R. Kumbhar (Auto.), Prof. S. S. Mane (Auto.), Prof. A. M. Mulla (Mech.), Prof. Ajinkya Patil (Mech.), Dr. Chetan Khadse (Elec.) & Prof. D. Laser (Elec.). RIT has provided a substantial funding of about Rs. 10 lakh for the rst year of this project. This project would be carried out for next 3 years. The idea here is to create an interdisciplinary work culture with every sub project comprised of students from different departments. Each team was given a target of developing a product that requires knowledge from various disciplines. As a result of this approach, students gained knowledge and experience not only of their core but also of other disciplines. They also learned leadership skills and team work. This type of experience and exposure would make them ready for the outside industrial world.

In today's world, job opportunities demand interdisciplinary knowledge and attitude owing to the upcoming industrial revolutions such as Industry 4.0. Moreover, product based knowledge and execution focus is always deserved. This project was driven by experts from industry in order to teach students how to build state-of-the-art technology and world class products. As a result of this project, students have built an electric vehicle fully from scratch. They have developed several test benches which would help further advancement in the technology. They have come up with several innovative ideas and built intermediate products. Few of these ideas and products have potential to turn into start-ups.

Two teams from Automobile Engg. Dept. has contributed in this project under the guidance of Dr. S. R. Kumbhar and Prof. S. S. Mane. The teams consisting of Patil Priyanka, Patil Swapnil, Hubale Amruta, Gurjar Saurabh, Kailash Waghmode, Abhijeet Gaikwad, Tanaji Patil, Mahesh Ranmale and Pratiksha Gaikwad worked on Steering and Braking systems for the electric vehicle built in the rst phase of the project.
