Esteemed President, Respected Secretary, Respected Treasurer, Members of the Managing Committee, Distinguished Chief Guest Dr. S. Mohamed Salique, M.Sc., B.Ed., Dip. in Arabic, Ph.D., Principal, Jamal Mohamed college, Tiruchirapalli, learned colleagues, student friends and guests, I deem it my immense pleasure to present the Annual Report on the activities of this esteemed institution during the Academic Year 2015- 2016. This academic year was really awesome and unforgettable one with rich memories and noble activities. I thank with devotional fervor Almighty Allah who has shown this institution the right path and guiding us safely to move on towards new milestones. Every year our College surpasses newer heights. Esteemed President, Respected Secretary, Respected Treasurer,

Members of the Managing Committee, Distinguished Chief Guest Dr. S.

Mohamed Salique, M.Sc., B.Ed., Dip. in Arabic, Ph.D., Principal, Jamal

Mohamed college, Tiruchirapalli, learned colleagues, student friends and

guests, I deem it my immense pleasure to present the Annual Report on

the activities of this esteemed institution during the Academic Year 2015-

2016. This academic year was really awesome and unforgettable one with

rich memories and noble activities.

I thank with devotional fervor Almighty Allah who has shown this

institution the right path and guiding us safely to move on towards new

milestones. Every year our College surpasses newer heights. A Peer Team

deputed by NAAC under the Chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar

Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Punjab, visited our College

and made thorough observations on all the facilities on the College

premises. Dr. J.K. Tandon, Former Professor of Commerce, University of

Rajasthan, Jaipur, was the member coordinator and Dr. Frazer

Mascarenhas, Former Principal, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous),

Mumbai, was the member. During the 10th Meeting of the Standing

Committee held on 15th November, 2015 our College has been reaccredited

for the 3rd time at an ‘A’ grade with CGPA of 3.40 by NAAC. I am really

happy to say that the Chairman of the Peer Team lauded our institution for

the great promoting of communal harmony. He also pointed out that many

features of our College will be implemented in Punjab University where he

is the Vice-Chancellor. Adding another feather to the cap we had an

interface with the UGC on 30th January, 2016. Out of 7 Colleges applied for

CPE Status in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Jurisdiction, ours is

the only institution selected for the Interface. It is remarkable that only 12

Colleges from Tamil Nadu were called for the Interface. And the College

eagerly awaits the College with Potential for Excellence Status to be

conferred upon it Insha Allah.

T.E.S. Fathu Rabbani, the Treasurer, Alhaj. H.M. Shaik Abdul Cader and

Distinguished Guest of Honour Dr. S. Mohamed Salique, the guests, the

teaching and non-teaching staff and students.

It really gives us immense pleasure and honour to have a brilliant

academician, Dr. S. Mohamed Salique, as our Chief Guest. He has a rich

teaching experience of 27 years, both UG and PG. He has so far guided 30

M.Phil. Scholars and 2 Ph.D. Scholars are going to submit their thesis

under our Chief Guest’s guidance. His area of specialization is Marine

Microbiology and Fungi. Our College reopened for the academic year

2015-2016 o n 1 8 . 0 6 . 2 0 1 5 .

IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell)

The IQAC of our College strives to provide quality environment for

learning. It envisages giving Quality Assurance (QA) in all the ventures

undertaken by the institution. The IQAC gives more emphasis on revising

the curriculum with a focus on need-based courses and global trends. It

focuses on introducing inter-disciplinary, job-oriented and skill-based

courses. It also focuses on introducing Choice-based credit system with

academic flexibility for the students to select the subjects of their interest,

introducing socially relevant extension programmes and implementing

Feedback Mechanism.

I am happy to list out the activities of the Internal Quality Assurance

Cell this academic year. The Cell conducted an Orientation Programme at

our College to the members of the IQAC of G.V.N. College, Kovilpatti, on

25.07.2015. It also conducted an Orientation Programme at our College to

the members of the IQAC of St. Jude’s College, Thoothur on 14.10.2015. A

one-day Orientation Programme on “Preparing PowerPoint Presentations”

was conducted by the IQAC. Prof. K. Rabi Ahamed, Formerly IQAC

Coordinator, and Dr. Hamil, Dean of Arts, were the resource persons.

I am glad to inform you that Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, Department of

Chemistry, has been appointed as the new IQAC Coordinator and Prof. S.

Khaleel Ahamed, Department of English, as the Assistant IQAC

Coordinator.

ISO

The ISO of our college conducts internal and external academic

audits to ensure quality in the teaching learning process. The certification

of ISO 9001:2008 has been updated as IQNet International Certification.

The certification has been done on the basis of the implementation of

Quality Management System which fulfils the requirements of the

prescribed standards. Prof. Abdul Kader, Associate Professor of Physics, is

the staff in charge.

Academic Council, Governing Board Meetings and Board of Studies

Ever since the College got the Autonomous status, we have been

convening Academic Council, Board of studies and Governing Board

Meetings every year.

The first Academic Council Meeting for this year was organized

on 01.10.2015. The meeting commenced with the recitation of

verses from the Holy Quran. Dr. Padmini, Associate Professor of

Bio-chemistry, Bharathi Women’s College, Chennai, Er. H.

Mohamed Riyas, Mr. Gnaniyar, Advocate and all the Heads of

the Departments of our College attended the meeting. The second

meeting of the council was convened on 23.02.2016. Dr. S.

Kannan, Head of the Environmental Studies Department,

Madurai Kamaraj University, Dr. M. Jagadeesan, Professor and

Head of the Department of Environmental and Herbal Science,

Faculty of Science, Tamil University, Tanjore, Mr. S. Abdul Kader,

Former Head of the Department of Mathematics, Sadakathullah

Appa College, Dr. M. Abdul Azeez, Meeran Nursing Home,

Tenkasi and Mr. A. Gnaniyar, Advocate were present. The U.G.,

P.G. and M.Phil. syllabi to be followed from the next academic

year were presented in front of the council and got approved.

The Governing Board gives the final approval for the academic

activities. It convenes meetings twice a year. For this academic

year 2015-2016, the first meeting was held on 17.10.2015.

Honorable Management Committee Members of our College,

UGC nominee for our College Dr. Ehsan Ahmed Khan, Jamiah

Hamdard, New Delhi, the Principal, Deans of Arts and Sciences,

Controller of Examinations and Director of unaided courses were

present. The second meeting of the board has been conducted on

26.03.2016. UGC nominee for our College Dr. Ehsan Ahmed

Khan, Jamiah Hamdard, New Delhi and members of the

Management Committee were present.

The Board of Studies Meeting for all U.G. and P.G. courses were

conducted in two spells. The first spell was held on 04.02.2016

and 05.02.2016 for all the courses. The second spell of the meeting

was held on 11.02.2016 for the Post Graduate Mathematics and

for Part-I Tamil Courses. Subject Experts from other Colleges,

Industrialists, Alumni and University Nominees actively took

part and helped executing the new syllabi.

Students’ Council:

The Students’ Council has been installed in our College to inculcate

leadership qualities among the students. Every year the Office Bearers to

the Council are elected in a fair and democratic way. This year the election

for the Council was conducted on 11.07.2015. The electronic voting method

has been in place for the last 4 years. A reservation of 50% was given to

female students for their representation in the council.

A total of 68 class representatives (33 boys and 35 girls) and 4 office

bearers were elected. The inauguration of the activities of the students’

council was organized with a ceremony on 21.07.2015 and Thiru.

Vijayakumar, D.R.O., Tirunelveli, was the Chief Guest. The following are

I am happy to inform you that the student volunteers of the council

took a philanthropic initiative and collected relief fund and materials

worth Rs. 1,25,850/- for the flood victims in Chennai and Cuddalore. A

team under the guidance of Dr. S. Mahadevan, Department of Tamil, Dr. S.

Mohamed Haneef, Department of English, Dr. A.S. Sheik Sindha,

Department of Tamil, and Dr. M.I. Zahir Hussain, Department of Zoology,

along with the members of the Students Council, went to Cuddalore and

involved in the relief work by distributing relief materials to the flood

affected people. Another team of 90 students under the guidance of Prof.

A. Sintha Mathar, Department of History and Prof. J.A.M. Omeray Farook,

Department of Commerce, along with the members of the Students

Council, went to Chennai for relief work and did yeoman’s service to the

people of the flood affected areas. I am happy to inform you that as a

gesture of appreciation, our College has been honoured with Vellathai

Vendra Manitha Neya Kalluri award on 31.01.2016. Our College was also

honoured with two more awards by UNWO (United Welfare

Organisation) and United Media Association. The awards were received by

Prof. A. Sindha Mathar, Department of History and Mohamed Kurzith

Khan of I M.A. English. On behalf of the College Management we would

like to register our heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers involved in this

noble initiative.

Oru Velai Unavu is a short film was released by the Students’

Council this year. “Importance of not wasting Food” is the theme of the

film. The CD format of the film was released by our beloved Secretary of

the College Management on 22.04.2015.

Kaanal Meengal – a collection of poems is also released by the

studious students of our college.

SSHS

A new scheme, namely, Students Self Help Scheme (SSHS) has

been in practice for the previous two years. This scheme is appreciated by

many as it eases the pressure of economically crippled students. Each

student has to pay a sum of 10 rupees per month voluntarily under this

scheme to help their poor and needy friends. The amount collected under

this scheme this year in the Aided section is Rs. 1,13,995/- and there are 59

beneficiaries.

SHIFA

An amount of Rs. 1,00,285/- has been collected under the Students’

Help In First Aid (SHIFA) Scheme and there are 11 beneficiaries. The

amount will be at disposal for the medical requirements of the needy

students.

Earn while you Learn:

Considering the poor economic status of some of our students and

with the view to inculcating in them the working culture, we have

launched the Earn While You Learn Scheme. The remuneration given to

them is Rs. 50/- per day. Twenty two of our students have been selected

this year under the scheme. The details are as follows.

Typewriting skill is developed in coordination with external experts.

The students are prepared to appear for the Typewriting Examination

conducted by the Department of Technical Education (DoTe). 64

Typewriters are at the disposal for the purpose. The Classes are conducted

in 5 batches. A total of 300 students are benefited from this Programme.

Classes for unaided students are conducted in the morning session. Classes

for aided students are conducted in the afternoon session. The classes are

conducted in tie-up with the School of Commerce, Palayamkottai. The

Department of Commerce takes care of the smooth conduct of the classes.

90 students have appeared for Typewriting Junior Exams conducted by

Tamil Nadu Government Department of Technical Education on March 05,

2016

I am happy to announce that the Departments of English and

Computer Science have been upgraded as Research Departments.

I am profoundly happy to inform you that our College has been

selected as the Authorised Centre for National Skill Development

Corporation under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. And our

Centre ID is 55948.

Our College is also a Member Institution of the Oracle Academy.

College Bazzar was organized on 06.01.2016 by Tamil Nadu Mahalir

Thittam. Mr. Vijayakumar, District Revenue Officer inaugurated the

function. Self-help group members showcased their products in 17 stalls.

Students, Staff members actively participated and purchased the products.

The total sale is of Rs. 2,45,000/-.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Sadakathullah Appa

College jointly organized Mano-25 – An Intercollegiate Festival, marking

the 25th Anniversary of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University on

06.09.2015 & 07.09.2015. Various events such as Oratorical Competition,

Essay Writing Competition, Drawing Competition, Dance Competition,

Singing Competition, so on and so forth were conducted. Students from

various colleges including our college participated in the events

enthusiastically and won many prizes.

Hello FM conducted a voice auditing programme – Singara Singers

in our College premises. A total of 160 students participated in the audit

and showcased their abilities.

Suriyan FM and our College jointly organized an Oratorical

Competition, marking the celebrations of International Women’s Day on

09.03.2016. Many students actively participated in the competition.

Infrastructure

A Sports Pavilion has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 25,00,000/-

to give a spectacular glimpse of all the sports events. Mr. S. Muthu

Karuppan, Member of Parliament, has magnanimously donated from his

constitutional fund for the purpose. I am glad to inform you that Mr. S.

Muthu Karuppan is our distinguished alumni.

An Indoor Stadium with a playing area of 11,200 square feet has

been established with the assistance of the UGC. The estimated cost of the

work is Rs. 1,40,00,000/-. The UGC has sanctioned Rs. 70,00,000/- for the

purpose and has released Rs. 35,00,000/- as first installment. The College

Management has also magnanimously contributed a sum of Rs. 70,00,000/-

for the establishment of the Indoor Stadium.

The Contributions of Parent-Teacher Association in development of

the College are immeasurable. Every year the Association provides

monetary and moral support for the infrastructural development on the

College premises. The details of the contributions are as follows.

Three Voltas Water Coolers to provide purified and cold water,

have been installed at different points on the campus at the cost of Rs.

A new block has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 52,00,000/- with 4

classrooms and a new Seminar Hall. The newly constructed Seminar Hall

with the already available one makes the conduct of various programmes

smoother and easier.

The Boys’ Canteen has been renovated at a cost of Rs. 6,50,000/-.

The Library has been renovated at a cost of Rs. 2,25,000/-.

A Guest-Room for V.I.Ps who visit the College has been constructed

at a cost of Rs. 10,87,000/-.

A Washroom for non-teaching staff has been constructed at a cost

of Rs. 8,00,000/-.

A Ladies’ Washroom has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 8,00,000/-.

A total of Rs. 3,50,000/- has been spent on purchasing kitchen

appliances like Chappathi Maker, Hot Box, etc., for the Boys’ Canteen.

The ladies’ Restroom has been renovated at a cost of Rs. 1,00,000/-.

A New Software has been installed by Easy EDU Software System.

A sum of Rs. 5,00,000/- has been spent for this purpose.

The introduction of online payment of fees, both tuition fees and

exam fees is another quality enhancement measure taken by the College.

Earlier both the students and the office staff had to face many hardships

during the payment of fees. Students from nearby places had to travel

several miles to make their payments if they failed to pay during College

Days. But now they pay the fees with ease that too even from their homes.

This has enhanced the quality of financial transaction between the

individual and the bank.

A sum of Rs. 7,24,000/- has been spent on to set up classrooms for

the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

Staff members including the Principal, the Director of Unaided

Courses, the Bursar, the IQAC Coordinator and the Controller of

Examinations of our College visited Arul Anandar College, Karumathur,

and Lady Doak College, Madurai, to get broader insights regarding

Autonomy and IQAC establishments.

A Voters Awareness Programme has been organized by our College

with the view to making people aware of their voting right. Pamphlets

have been issued in connection to the programme.

A Blood Donors Club has been established in our College. Student

Volunteers have enrolled their names with their blood group specifications

and contact numbers. This Club will help the needy during exigencies.

Mobile Jammers have been installed in the Hostels in order to

prevent the students from using Mobile Phones inside the College

premises.

Deeniyath Classes:

Deeniyath classes are one of the gems that decorate the crown of this

minority institution. 17 special lectures by eminent spiritual orators were

organized this year. Whenever it was a common lecture for all boys, the

girls had their regular classes conducted by the respective teachers and

vice-versa. Dr. M. Kamalutheen is the convener for the Deeniyath Classes.

Prof. J. Ubaiyathulla and Prof. S.A. Mohammed Rafeek ably assisted the

convener in the smooth conduct of the classes. Deeniyath Classes for the

unaided courses were also held on the same lines. Eight special lectures

have been arranged with eminent Ulama (Religious Scholars) as Resource

Persons. Prof. K. Jaleel Ahamed is the convener. He is assisted by Dr.

S.M.A. Syed Mohamed Khaja, Prof. M.H. Ibrahim and Prof. M.S. Mohamed

Hussain. The classes were conducted smoothly as the schedule was

planned at the very beginning of the academic year itself. The Resource

Persons from outside spoke on areas such as Discipline and Virtue,

Quotations from the Holy Qur’an, Hadeeth and History of the

Companions of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH).

Moral Instruction:

Equal importance has been given by our institution to impart Moral

Education to students who are the future of this splendid and diverse

nation. Moral Instruction classes for non-muslim students are conducted in

15 batches every Wednesday with the able assistance of 30 teachers. Prof. S.

Jeyakumar, Head of the Commerce Department is the convener for the

Moral Instruction Classes. Constant support was given by Dr. S.

Mahadevan, Prof. A.M. Ayub Khan and Dr. Kanna Muthiah, in the smooth

conduct of the classes.

Ifthar Get-together

Our College organizes an annual Ifthar Get-together to promote

communal harmony and to inform our friends in society what the

true spirit of fast ing is. According to the words of the Prophet

(PBUH) to enjoin good and forbid evil , the Ifthar Get-together

for this year was conducted on 07.07.2015 at Masjidus Sadakath (College

Mosque). Thiru. John De Britto, Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar

University, Tirunelveli, was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Antony A. Cruz,

Chancellor, R.C. Diocese of Palayamkottai, Thiru. K. Chidambaram Pillai,

by the Alumni Association of our College.

Hostels:

The Wavoo Shahul Hameed Hostel for Boys provides

accommodation for 208 students. Dr. A.H. Mohideen Badshah, is the

Deputy Warden, Prof. Abusalih Sheik and Prof. J. Ubaiyathulla are the

Sub-Wardens. The Hostel Students Association was inaugurated on

20.08.2015 with a ceremony for which Thiru. Ramaboothan was the Chief

Guest. S. Raja Mohamed Malik of III B.Com. is the Chairman and S. Haja

Mohideen Shafeeq of II B.A. English, is the Secretary. Dr. Abdul Azeez,

M.B.B.S., visits the hostel every Tuesday. The Hostel provides full-

furnished accommodation for the students those who come for the want of

education and enlightenment. The Hostel has been enabled with 8 CCTV

Cameras at various strategic points. The inmates of the Boys Hostel went

on a tour to Bangalore and Mysore for two days 18.02.2016 and 19.02.2016.

The Girls Hostel accommodates 280 students. They are well

managed by a team headed by Deputy Wardens Dr. Sithi Jameela and Dr.

K. Hema. Ms. Fathima, Ms. Sabeena Begum and Ms. Sulaihal are the

Residential Sub-Wardens. In addition to that 4 caretakers are working to

meet with the amenities of the girls. The Hostel is provided security by a

round the clock watchman. The Girls’ Hostel Students’ Association was

inaugurated on 21.08.2015 with Thiru. S. Parvathy Muthamizh, Radio

Jockey, Suriyan FM as the Chief Guest. S. Veni of III B.A. English is the

Chairperson and M. Mansoora Banu of III B.Sc. Physics is the Secretary.

The inmates of the hostel went on a tour to Ooty for 2 days 14.02.2016 and

15.02.2016. Dr. Neelathatchayini pays a visit to the hostel every Tuesday.

Two fully furnished Hostels provide quality and safe accommodation to

the girls who come to pursue higher studies. Mobile Jammers are in place

to prevent the inmates from using Mobile Phones. Incinerator facility in the

Girls Hostel ensures the safe disposal of sanitary napkins.

Our Faculty Members actively participate in various Orientation

Programmes, Refresher and Pre-Commission Courses every year with a

view to enriching themselves with updated knowledge and information.

Dr. M. Mohamed Sathik, Principal of our College attended a ‘Short-

Term Course in Academic Leadership’ held in Aligarh Muslim University,

Uttar Pradesh, from 19.12.2015 to 20.12.2015. Dr. S. Syed Ali Fathima,

Assistant Professor of Mathematics attended an Orientation Programme on

‘Advances in Analysis, Algebra and Differential Equations’ held in

Madurai Kamaraj University, from 25.11.2015 to 15.12.2015. Dr. A. Syed

Mohamed, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, attended a ‘Short-Term

Course in Academic Leadership’ held in Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar

Pradesh, from 19.12.2015 to 20.12.2015. He also attended a ‘Refresher

Course in Chemistry’ held in Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, from

inaugurated promptly. The Department also conducted three endowment

lectures. WAVOO Endowment Lecture was organized on 12.12.2015. Prof.

H. Mujeeb Rahman of National Engineering College, Maruthakulam,

Pongal Debate on 13.01.2016. Prof. Ramachandran was the Chief Guest.

The Department of Arabic inaugurated its Association on

24.08.2015. Moulavi S.S. Haider Ali Aalim, Principal of Usmaniya Arabic

College, delivered a lecture on Nurturing Islamic Values. The second guest

lecture was organized on 22.12.2015. Dr. S. Abdul Maliq, Principal of The

New College, was the Guest of Honour. He spoke on Lessons and Teachings

from Histories revealed in the Holy Qur’an. The Department also conducted a

Quiz Programme on 16.02.2016. Mr. M. Sheik Mohamed Ilyas of M.S.S.

Wakf Board College, Madurai, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The Research Department of English inaugurated its Literary

Department are undergoing a modular course on e-Filing VAT. Four

students have cleared CMA and CA Preliminary Examinations.

The Association of the Research Department of History was

inaugurated on 18.02.2015. Dr. A. Abdul Kader, Director of Unaided

Courses, Sadakathullah Appa College, delivered a lecture on Socio-Cultural

Life of the Arabs. The Department conducted a UGC-sponsored Workshop

Mr. S. Jeyakumar, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of

Commerce, Sadakathullah Appa College, delivering a lecture on Economic

Development of India since Independence on 07.10.2015.

The Integrated Department of Physics inaugurated its

Association activities on 28.08.2015. The Department also organized a State

Level Seminar on Recent Trends in Material Science on 11.01.2016, sponsored

by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Dr. Asath Bahadur, Dr.

Adimoolam and Dr. Mohanraj were the Guests of Honor for the

programme.

The Department of Chemistry inaugurated its Association on

26.08.2015. The Department organized two guest lectures – one on

16.09.2015 with Dr. Shakina, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Sarah

Tucker College, as the Resource Person. She enlightened the gathering

with her insights on Kinetics of Chemical Reactions. Another Guest lecture

was organized on 11.02.2016 with Mr. A. Narayanan, Proprietor,

Narayanan Water Academy, Vagaikulam, as the Resource Person. He

spoke on the title Water Management. The Department also organized a

State Level Seminar on Emerging Trends in Chemistry – ETC’16 on

Trichy, were the Resource Persons. 43 students of III year B.Sc. Chemistry

went to Kudankulam Atomic Research Centre as an Industrial Visit. They

were accompanied by Dr. M. Sheik Muhideen Badhusha, Dr. Jeslin Kanaga

Inba and Dr. I. Antony Danish.

The Department of Mathematics inaugurated its Association on

14.08.2015 with Dr. Muthulakshmi Paramasivam delivering a special

lecture. Dr. R. Selvi gave a lecture on Beauty of Numbers on 27.08.2015 and

on 21.01.2016 Dr. K. Murugan enlightened the students with his lecture on

Some New Numbers. A UGC-sponsored State Level Workshop on Latex was

organized on 14.09.2015.

The Department of Zoology had its inauguration of its Association

on 07.08.2015 with a special lecture on Bioelicitors from Sea Weed. Two guest

lectures were organized by the Department – one on the topic Career

Opportunities for Zoologist on 05.10.2015 and the other on Endangered Species

on 12.02.2016. A UGC-sponsored Seminar on Recent Innovations and

Developments in Biological Science was conducted on 20.10.2015. Dr. M.

Jeyalakshmi of Madurai Kamaraj University, Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Vice

Principal of St. Xavier’s College and Dr. Narayanan, former Controller of

Examinations, Sadakathullah Appa College, were the resource persons. A

Workshop on Basic Statistics Using SPSS and Excel was also organized on

05th and 06th of Janurary, 2016. Dr. K. Marimuthu, Associate Professor,

Department of Biotechnology, AIMST, was the resource person.

S.K. Kuppusamy, Director, Engineering Department, Computer Associates

Technology, Hyderabad, India, as the Chief Guest. He spoke on College to

Corporate. The Department also conducted a UGC-sponsored State Level

Seminar on Data Mining. Dr. C. Velayutham, Associate Professor of

Computer Science, Adithanar College of Arts and Science, Dr. O.A.

Mohamed Jafar, Associate Professor of Computer Science, Jamal Mohamed

College, Er. S. Ramasubramanian, Head, Training Delivery ECCI,

Tirunelveli, and Dr. M. Narayanan, Former Controller of Examinations,

Sadakathullah Appa College, were the resource persons.

We are proud to say that our Library is fully automated. We have

issued identity cards to the students with bar-codes. The e-Gate facility

enables to monitor the entry, exit, book issue and book return of the

students. A Student-Readers’ Forum has been inaugurated on 05.08.2015 to

encourage students to read and to utilise the library resources. The Best

User Award has been introduced to encourage the frequent users of the

Library. A Forum for Services Exams (CSAT) Aspirants has been launched

on 12.01.2016. Mrs. Nandini R. Nair, I.R.S., Assistant Commissioner,

Income Taxes, Tirunelveli, inaugurated the forum. A mock TNPSC Group

II Examination was conducted on 10.01.2016 in our College. The exam was

jointly organized by Department of Library, Sadakathullah Appa College,

District Library Commission, Team Trust and Tamil Nadu Government

Employees Association. A workshop has been organized on behalf of the

Department of Library on 29.01.2016 with the title Writing Research Articles

for Beginners. Dr. M. Manoharan, Associate Professor, Department of

Commerce, C.P.A. College, Bodinayakanur, and other eminent resource

on Android Application. The second lecture was organized on 05.02.2016

with Mr. Kumar as the resource person and he spoke on Cyber Security. The

Department also conducted a National Seminar on Medical Image Processing

The Department of Tamil (Unaided) of our College celebrated

Women’s Day on 10.03.2016. In connection with the celebrations, the

Department organized a debate on the topic Growth of Technology: Boon or

Bane.

English Literary Association on 07.08.2015 gleefully. The presence of

stalwarts in the field of Literature added new zeal to the Association. Prof.

Dr. Peer Mohamed from Al-Jubail Industrial College, Saudi Arabia,

inaugurated the activities of the Association and delivered the inaugural

address. He spoke on the topic Creating Champions for Life. The Department

also organized a Guest Lecture on 08.01.2016 on the topic Pleasures of

Reading Poetry. Dr. A. Nihamathullah, formerly Head of the English

Department, Sadakathullah Appa College, was the Chief Guest.

The Department of Islamic Studies inaugurated its Association on

25.08.2015. Prof. A. Abdul Haiyu, was the chief guest. The Department

organized its first Guest Lecture on 14.10.2015. Er. A.P.M Abdul Kader,

was the Resource Person. The Department conducted its second Guest

lecture on 07.10.2015 and the guest speaker was Moulana. M.Y. Humayoon

Kabeer Alim Usman.

The Department of Microbiology organized a Guest Lecture on

24.08.2015, Dr. Selva Mohan was the Resource Person and he enlightened

the audience with the topic Environment and Health. The Department also

organized a special lecture on Women’s Health. Dr. Dahlia addressed all the

female students of the College. The girls got exposed to various health

issues specific to women.

The PG Department of Mathematics inaugurated the Association

activities on 13.08.2015. Dr. A. Abdul Kader, Director of Unaided courses

addressed the majestic gathering and spoke on the topic Skills For

Prospective Career. The Department also organized a guest lecture on

The Department of Business Administration organized special

lectures for the betterment of its stakeholders. The first one was organized

on 27.08.2015 with the title Individual Vs Individuality. Dr. Madhavan from

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, was the guest of honour. The

Department organized its second lecture on Recent trends in Marketing on

25.02.2016. Dr. P. Ravi from the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University,

delivered the lecture. The Department also organized a special lecture on

Advanced Management on 11.03.2016.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized an

International Seminar on Recent Innovations in Natural Resources to Prevent

Cancer on 15.02.2016. The Guests were invited from various fields of

science. Dr. Paul Mansingh, Dr. Sasikumar from Ethiopia, Dr. Lalitha

Ramasamy and Dr. Gayathri were the Guests of Honour.

The Integrated Department of Computer Science (Computer

Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications) organized a

State Level Technical Symposium SACTECHFEST’16 on 02.03.2016 in a

grand manner. The Department of Computer Applications arranged a skill

development programme on 21.08.2015 and Prof. Safish Mary addressed

the majestic gathering. The Department of Information Technology

inaugurated its Association on 19.08.2015 and Dr. Chidambaranathan

delivered his inaugural address. The Department of Computer Science

organized special guest lectures on interesting topics on 10.08.2015 and

The Department of Commerce (Unaided) organized a State Level

Seminar on the topic Empowering Women Entrepreneurship with SHG

Members on 18.02.2016. The Department of Commerce with Computer

Applications and Finance inaugurated their Association on 21.08.2015. The

Resource Person spoke on the topic Opportunities in Share Market. The

Department also arranged a Guest Lecture on 02.02.2016 on the topic e-

Commerce and Online Trade.

The Departments are organizing special Programmes, Seminars,

Conferences, Guest Lectures, Symposia, Workshops, so on and so forth for

the sake of students at regular intervals to make them remain positive,

create attitudinal change and make them vibrant educationists to build

future India.

As in the colourful and the fruitful years gone by, this year also the

The NSS of our College has been very active and vibrant in taking

philanthropic initiatives to reach out to the society. A total of six NSS units

NCC (National Cadet Corps)

The College NCC unit has been working vibrantly with 104 SD and

SW cadets. Lt. K. Syed Ali Bhadhusha, Assistant Professor of English, is the

company commander. Notably in the year 2015-2016, there has been an all

time all time rise in the number of various camps, awards, scholarships

and recognitions achieved by cadets. Sixteen cadets have appeared for the

NCC ‘C’ Certificate Exam held on 26.03.2016 and 27.03.2016 at St. John’s

College, Palayamkottai. Thirty One cadets have successfully appeared for

the NCC ‘B’ Certificate Exam held on 27.02.2016 and 28.02.2016 at Rani

Anna Government College for Women, Tirunelveli.

Sadakath Outreach Programme (SOP)

Sadakath Outreach Programme, an extension activity of our College,

has been in progress since 2009. Dr. M. Sheik Muhideen Badhusha,

Department of Chemistry, is the Co-ordinator. The following are the

Career Guidance and Placement Cell

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell has been very active this

academic year. This year was really an abundant and a memorable one for

the Placement Cell with high spirited activities. Dr. A. Syed Mohamed is

the Coordinator. It has organized a series of porgrammes and off-campus

drives. It has also organized various training programmes. The details are

as follows.

300 students registered for a Free Training Programme on Banking,

Financial Services and Insurances organised by NSE, Mumbai, under

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

60 students underwent a Training Programme for Debt Recovery

Agents organised by National Skill Development Corporation of

India and NSE, Mumbai, under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas

Yojana. The training was conducted from 10.09.15 to 01.10.15. Mr. K.

Thanga Thirupathi, Assistant Vice President and Branch Head, Axis

Bank, Tirunelveli Town Branch inaugurated the programme. Mr. M.

JeyaPrakash, Partner, Finvisor Knowledge Management Services,

Chennai, delivered a special address. An online examination was

conducted for the trained students. 60 students who appeared for

final examination are waiting for the results.

4 students from II B.Com. attended LIC agency training programme

in LIC divisional office.

The particulars of Campus Recruitment Drives conducted during this

academic year are as follows

An Off-Campus Recruitment Drive for ICICI Bank was conducted

on 08.10.2015 by TVS Training and Services, Chennai, for students

those who completed their degree in 2015. A total of 375 students

from various Arts and Science Colleges participated in the Drive. 30

students were selected from among them.

A Campus Recruitment Drive for Muthoot Finance Limited,

Tirunelveli was conducted on 29.02.2016 for final year UG students.

50 students were selected for the final round. The selection list is yet

to be published.

A Campus Recruitment Drive for VSR International School (CBSE),

Tisayanvilai was conducted on 25.02.2016 for final year UG and PG

female students. 3 of our students were selected.

I am happy to inform you that with the guidance of the Placement

Cell of our College, many students have got appointments in various

concerns. The details are as follows.

Abdul Kareem and Satham Hussain of III B.Sc. Chemistry have been

selected as quality analysts for Nova Carbons India Private Limited,

Gangaikondan SIPCOT, Tirunelveli.

S. Elankavi who completed B.Sc. Chemistry in our College and

Mohammed Abdullah of III B.Sc. Chemistry, have been selected as

Process Controllers in Sterlite Industries, Tuticorin. The total

emolument is Rs.1,80,000 per annum during the training period. The

interview was held on 24.02.2016 at St.Xaviers College,

Palayamkottai.

Anti-Ragging Committee:

The Anti-ragging committee of our College comprises a Media

Person, a Lawyer and a Police Official. The Anti-Ragging Committee met

on 02.07.2015 in the Principal’s Chamber. The special meeting for the first

year students was organized on their first day with a view to creating

awareness on ragging. Mr. Hasan, a Leading Criminal Lawyer, delivered a

talk on anti-ragging. An Anti-Ragging Squad has been formed to make

surprise visits in both the hostels. A formal circular is sent to each class

indicating the toll-free phone number and the stringent measures that

would be taken against ragging. Frequent warnings are given to all

students on behalf of the Committee. Phone numbers of the Coordinator

of the Anti-Ragging Committee and the toll free number are displayed on

the notice boards of the college and the hostels. Close vigilance and

monitoring is done within the campus with the help of CCTV cameras

located at different strategic points.

Alumni Association

The Annual Alumni Get-Together is an occasion when the alumni of

our College come together to celebrate their memories with great

enthusiasm and affinity towards their Alma Mater. They share their sweet

memories. The get-together also paves way to elicit feedback and valuable

suggestions from our alumni regarding the development of our institution

on many aspects. The Alumni Get Together for this year was organized on

07.02.2016 at our College Seminar Hall. The meeting was honoured by the

turn out of Alumni in great number. Prof. R. Madasamy, Former Principal

of DIET, Munanjipatti and Thiru. T.J. Samuel Durairaj, Vice Princiapal,

IIPE Laxmi Raman Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli,

were the Chief Guests. They were honoured with The Best Alumni Award

this year. Nearly 175 alumni participated in this event. The alumni of our

College also participated in the interaction with the NAAC Peer Team

members on 04.11.2015 held in our College. This interaction was one of the

aspects that remained instrumental for our institution in getting ‘A’ Grade

with CGPA 3.40.

Youth Welfare:

The Youth Welfare Department of our college has been very active.

The student volunteers of the Department bring laurels to the institution

from far and near. Prof. A.M. Ayub Khan, Department of Tamil, is the Co-

ordinator. This year also they performed par excellence. P. Mohammed

Yousuf Ansari of III B.Sc. Physics, won II Prize in an intercollegiate verse

writing competition jointly organized by Tirunelveli District Poets’ Forum

and Aravind Eye Hospital on 13.09.2015. He also won the II Prize in Essay

Writing Competition conducted by District Central Library during the

World Book Day Celebrations on 23.04.2015.
