programsBuilding a Successful Attendance Plan: A Practitioner’s ApproachThere is a strong connection between student attendance and achievement when students are not in school, whether for excused or unexcused absences, they lose out on the opportunity to learn. As such, chronic absenteeism must be addressed through the Local Control and Accountability Plan, and has been identified as an indicator for school success in the new accountability system that replaced the Academic Performance Index. This workshop will provide day-to-day practical strategies and best practices in which school personnel can build a successful attendance improvement plan through a multi-tiered system of support.

Continuous Improvement 101This three-hour workshop is designed to provide school and district leaders with the basic understanding of California Improvement and Accountability System and how they can connect it to their current improvement efforts.

A Day in the Life of a Co-AdministratorWhat occurs in the daily life of a co-administrator commonly known as a dean, assistant principal, vice principal at a school site? The co- administrator usually becomes the lifeblood of the school site, daily acting and reacting to potentially liable situations. Unfortunately, the majority were not adequately prepared to effectively handle the day to day duties during their graduate studies. This workshop will expose the field lieutenants to proactive measures to utilize in the world of discipline, records, attendance, safety and more. Sample policies, procedures and unique strategies will be provided to all participants during this day-long workshop. As a result of attending this dynamic workshop, the attendee will be armed with tools and techniques to allow them the opportunity to become a more effective instructional leader rather than a firefighter.

Equity InstitutesACSA, in conjunction with its equity partners, is proud to bring its members and educational leaders a unique and customized professional development experience designed to build capacity in cultural proficiency and equity leadership. ACSA recognizes that all of our protected classes (including but not limited to LGBTQ, gender, disabilities, religion, and language) fall under the scope of this work and deserve intentional and strategic efforts to provide relevant support. While the work in this institute will provide a deeper focus on race/ethnicity through a culturally proficient and equity lens, we believe the foundational skills that will be explored and developed can be applied to effectively serve all marginalized groups. ACSA excited about partnering with Generation Ready, Teaching Excellence Network/Culturally Responsive Educators, CLEAR, West Ed, and Partners in School Innovation as well as several others in facilitating these unique equity institutes.

This customized approach also includes blended learning of online resources as well as the development of a plan of action along with the opportunity for follow up through coaching and other job embedded tools.

Having Hard Conversations 2Having Hard Conversations 1 is a prerequisite for attendance.Continuing the learning in Having Hard Conversations 1, Hard Conversations 2 is an extension and deepening of the work of becoming more comfortable with the energy of conflict. The workshop revisits key elements, such as outcome mapping and scripting protocol, and goes deeper to provide additional strategies for being more confident and compassionate when faced with situations involving conflict. Participants will learn how to: keep conflict at a cognitive level that is more psychologically safe; analyze possible covert organizational influences at play during a hard conversation; look at a hard conversation through the lenses of culture, generation and gender, cognitive style and belief system; understand the differences between a problem to be solved and a polarity to be managed; and, respond productively when conflict escalates both in one-on-one and in group situations.
