FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK:

At the outset, I offer my respectful pranams at the holy feet of Jagadguru Dr. Sri. Shivarathri

Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the Founder of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru. I submit my humble

pranams to His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the Present

President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science established in 1964 has kept ever alive the

endeavors to bring to fruition the dreams of its founder Jagadguru Dr. Sri. Shivarathri Rajendra

Mahaswamiji, who dedicated his entire life in preaching and practicing the ideal “Work is

Worship”.

The present Pontiff, 24th Spiritual Head of Suttur Math, the President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha

has been the torch bearer of its tradition of providing educational excellence and has set high

standards for all of us in academic, religious and moral spheres. To achieve these standards, JSS

Mahavidyapeetha has taken a lead in spreading literacy and learning to produce excellent human

resource.

Our college is always in frontline in providing opportunities for curricular, co-curricular and

extra-curricular activities to facilitate the overall development of the students. The College was

conferred with autonomous status by UGC in 2005 and was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’

grade both in 2008, 2014 and 2019.

In the academic year 2020-21, the College has organized with Research Centre Status and has

also organised number of seminars, conferences, workshops and special lectures at different

levels. There has been good involvement in sharing knowledge by our teaching staff members

through publication of research outcomes and development activities. Extra-curricular and Co-

curricular activities were also given equal importance throughout the year. The semester

examination results in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes have been very good

and placement records stand as testimony to the dedicated efforts of the College team.

As documentation acts as witness for achievements, the compilation of activities in the form of

Academic Report is taken place.

I congratulate Dr. Kumudini Achchi and her team for their hard and honest efforts in bringing

this report in an excellent manner.

Editorial:

Academic Report 2020-21 is a capsule showcases the activities of the current year. It has been a

delightful task to present the Academic Report of the year. The report highlights the

contributions and achievements of the college as a unit, individual teachers and students in

curricular and extra curricular areas towards attaining scholastic excellence.

The compilation of academic activities for the year focuses on talent identification, utilization of

human resources and talent retention through motivating teaching, non-teaching staff members

and students with developmental climate approach. To achieve the same, documentation can be

viewed as a tool and also a platform for finding the scope for betterment and improved

professional contributions.

I am glad to highlight Research Centre Status to our college during 2019-20 to carryout research

activities is yielding the result swiftly. We are proud to acknowledge that 18 teachers from 09

reconised departments who have been recognized as research guides are guiding 35 research

scholars in their research work. Further, successful achievement of the college objectives, 36

committees were formed by the college. During 2020-21, college has conducted 02 workshop, 17

webinars, 13 special lectures, 01 orientation programme with 10 exposure visits, 01 educational

tour and 02 Induction Programmes (for students of UG abd PG separately) and sports events.

Our teachers are working on 02 major research projects. They have also published 44 research

papers in recognised journals. 11 research papers were presented. 06 different books have been

authored by our teachers. 07 teachers are serving in Editorial Boards of 16 various Regional,

National and International Journals. Our teachers have actively participated in 414

webinars/seminars/workshops conducted by our Institution as well as by other Institutions. Apart

from these, 06 of our young teachers were awarded with Ph D degree, 08 teachers were

qualified K-SET. It can also be seen out teachers attending Orientation / Refresher /Faculty

Development courses, completing Swaym/MOOC course and serving as resource person in

various platforms as well as in various committees as members. It is also proud acknowledgment

of the college that 20 of our students are qualified for KSET/NET in this cacademic year. In

sum, it is an affirmative indicator to acknowledge that the performance of our teachers has

increased when compared to previous year.

All these achievements were possible only because of the divine blessings of His Holiness

Jagadguru Sri. Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the whole hearted support and

co-operation from JSS Mahavidyapeetha and continuous motivation from the college authorities

and sincere efforts of the staff members and students. I thank our respected Chief Executive of

the Campus Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Principal Dr. H C Honnappa for their valuable and timely

guidance in preparing the report.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, a first degree college established in 1964 by

JSS Mahavidyapeetha, is situated on a sprawling 7.08 acres plot with a spacious building and a

hostel in a picturesque surrounding at the foot of Chamundi Hills. The college is a Multi-faculty,

Co-educational, autonomous College, re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade (CGPA: 3.21) and

recognised as College with Potential for Excellence by UGC. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushal

Kendra and Kaushalya Karnataka scheme have been sanctioned to the college by UGC and GoK,

respectively. The College has been recognized as ‘Research Centre’ under University of Mysore

to undertake doctoral and research studies in nine subjects. The college is hosting ‘JSS Radio’, a

Community Radio Station sanctioned by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of

India. The College is known to provide need-based, skill integrated, cost-effective, quality and

holistic education, transforming the students into globally competitive, employable and

responsible citizens. The College offers a total of 49 programmes, viz., BSc, BA, B Com, BCA,

BBA, B Voc, MSc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biotechnology,

Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology), M Com, M A (English, Kannada), MSW, M Voc (Food

Processing & Engineering, Software Development) and Ph D (Kannada, English, Social Work,

Commerce, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). A PG Diploma

Programme in Protein Scale up and Expression has been sanctioned to the College by

Government of Karnataka in 2011 under Biotechnology Finishing School (BTFS) is being

offered and at present the same is getting operated under the synonym of Biotechnology Skill

Enhancement Programme (BiSEP). Besides, COCs and PG Diploma Programmes are also

offered. The recently approved MCA Programme is still to start the proceedings from the current

academic year.

The college has highly qualified and dedicated teaching & non teaching staff. Nearly 3339

students, including foreign students and research scholars, are pursuing education in various

disciplines. It has an enviable academic record as students secure ranks and honours almost

every year in the examinations. Many Alumni of the College are successful researchers,

litterateurs, politicians, administrators and bureaucrats. They are still nostalgic and maintain

emotional attachment with the institution. The college also has conducive atmosphere for sports

and cultural activities. It has a well maintained sports field and well equipped national level

Basketball Court. Students’ have brought laurels to the college in Sports, Debate, Drama and

Music at Inter-College, University, State, National and International levels competitions. The

volunteers of NCC & NSS units have participated in state and national level camps and Republic

Day Parades. Besides Youth Red Cross Unit, a number of student centric clubs are also

functioning. The college has successfully organized National and State Level Seminars,

Workshops, Special Lectures etc. Curriculum development and examination reforms are being

implemented on a continuous basis.

On 08th August 2020, online test was conducted for selecting the first year cadets. The

weekend parades, lectures were given on ‘NCC organization, Principles of Leadership, Map

Reading, National Integration, Social service, Hygiene and sanitation, Blood Donation, Civil

Defence, Weapon Training, Ecology and so on. The Coy’s weekend parades were conducted

online on every Saturday from 14.00 hrs to 18.000 hrs

.

The Associate NCC Officer and PI Staff of 14 KAR BN NCC, Mysuru taught the lessons of

‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate Examinations.

Participation of NCC Cadets:

NCC cadets of our college have participated in various camps like Trekking camp, National

Integration Camp, Cultural Camps, National Games Camp, Special National Integration Camp,

Pre RDC & RDC Camps, Group level Camps, Combined annual training camp, Tala Sainik

Camps, Advanced leadership Camp, Army Attachment Camp and Staff Selection Board Camp.

The cadets have also participated in Tree Plantation Programme, World Heart Day Rally,

Cancer awareness programme, environmental awareness programme, Dasara parade, Guard of

honour, Anti drug Rally, Swatch Bharath Abhiyan, Car festival at Suttur and also Cadets have

actively participating in blood donation camps etc.,

Awards for the Special Events:

● CSUO Vikram Nayaka U, II B.Com Participated in TSC Delhi 2019. And he received

gold medal in 2020 and also chief minister commandation certificate in 2020

● SUO Shashank II BVoc participated in RDC Delhi 2020. And also he received chief

minister commandation certificate in 2020-21
