Uses of forestsPeople began life on this planet as forest dwellers. They were food gatherersand depended on the forest for all their needs: food, clothing, and shelter. Theygradually became food growers, clearing a small patch in the forest to growfood. But they continued to depend on forests to meet a lot of their needs. Eventoday people depend on the forest for paper, timber, fuel wood, medicine, andfodder.
Fuel wood:wood is an important source of energy for cooking andheating. Some of the wood is converted to charcoal and used for cooking.
Fodder: Fodder from the forest forms an important source for cattle andother grazing animals in the hilly and the arid regions and during adrought.
Soil erosion Check: Tree roots bind the soil and prevent erosioncaused by wind or water. Leaf fall also provides a soil cover that furtherprotects the soil.
Medicinal use:Even today man is dependent on the forest for herbs andplants to fight against disease Leaves, bark, and other parts of many othertrees also have medicinal value and are used to make various ayurvedicmedicines.
Fibre:Plant fibre has many different uses. Soft fibres such as jute arederived from the stems of the plant. Hard fibre from the leaves of hempand sisal are used to make fabrics for various applications. Coir, anotherform of fibre from the fruit of the coconut, is used to make ropes.
Floss:The fruits of many species of Indian trees produce silky floss. Themost common of these is simal. It is used to made cotton wool, mattresses, and pillows.
Essential oils:Tropical grasses such as lemon grass, citronella, andkhus are the source of essential oils. Oil is distilled from the wood ofvarious species such as sandalwood, agar, and pine. Oil is also derivedfrom the leaves of certain plants and trees such as eucalyptus, camphor, wintergreen, and pine. These oils are used for making soaps, cosmetics, incense, pharmaceuticals, and confectionery.

ABSTRACT:-
On the observance of National Science Day and Water ConservationDay, The NSS unit-1 volunteers of Gayatri Vidya Parishad college ofengineering(A) has taken a step forward to create awareness amongthe people about how water plays a vital role in humans survival. Anawareness week is conducted between 26th of February 2018 to 2nd
of march 2018.
Everybody wants happiness
But nobody wants pain
But you cant have a rainbow
Without a little rain
So for that little rain to happen, we have taken the initiative tograb the trespassers attention through some attractive water tricksand conveyed the message of conserving water. The volunteers havealso explained about the possible ways on which one can give theircontributions towards conserving water.

AWARENESS THROUGH MAGIC TAP :
INTRODUCTION
Phillip bloom is an inventor who saw the idea of a ‘frozen moment’ tap while holidaying inthe United States. In a shop window he saw taps gushing with water while apparentlysuspended in mid-air and not attached to any source of water.
The taps intrigued him but, as they were selling for more than $100 each, he decided to puthis inventive skills to the test to make his won.
The magic tap is a clever illusion. It consists of a faucet mysteriously hovering above a poolor basin with an endless supply of water gushing out of it from seemingly nowhere. Thefaucet remains surprising steady despite having no visible support and where is all this watercoming from? This spectacular effect is achieved by a transparent tube in middle of watercolumn that holds the tap in place and, at the same time keeps feeding it with water pumpedfrom below. The water goes up through the tube and exits at the top. The water goes upthrough the tube and exists at the top. The water column, which is usually turbulent, effectively hides the tube from view.
Several giant floating tap fountains can be found around Spain, Belgium, US, Canada andother parts of the world.
WATER TECH INDIA introduced the product of worth Rs1, 50,000/- is placed in Gujaratwhich is not unique but expensive and became as a commercialproduct in society.

On behalf of water day celebrations we displayed it.
DESCRIPTION
As it is miniature version of magic tap we used a bucket with a hole at thecentre and 50ml burette with four holes is attached to tap and pipe is takenthrough the bucket and is attached to another end of burette .The water travelsupwards through pipe due to high pressure at the bottom. As water reaches tothe top of burette it falls down from the holes made at the end of burette due togravity. This happens continuously, which appears that the water is comingthrough pipe without any sources.

WATER SURVEYIn the present day society creating awareness about conservation of water isvery essential. There are already many places which are suffering a severe watershortage .If we don’t take this issue seriously then we need to face severeconsequences.
From the moment we wake up we need .Improper water supply causes a lot ofinconvenience to all of us. But still we waste a lot of water. If we ignore thissituation then there will be a day when water will cost more than gold!
Well our college NSS (NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME) unit took theinitiative to create awareness among the pupil of our college. As a part ofWORLD WATER DAY which is observed on 22nd march every year, weconducted a survey among the students of our college .
As a part of survey we created a google form and around 200 students gavetheir responses. The main motto of theis survey was to identify the water usageand wastage and to motivate them to use water wisely. The questions like Howmuch water they drink? How many buckets of water they use to bath?Howmuch amount of water you utilise for cooking purpose? And so on.
This survey was conducted in the 1st week of march. All their resposes wererecorded andat the end we also mentioned some motivating and inspiring words
In this process all the department students actively participated and gave theiropinions and responses.

TRICK:- SEPARATION OF OIL AND WATER
The procedure of the trick goes as follows:-Take a glass of water (transparent glass), in an another container take
some oil with added colors. Pour the oil slowly into the glass of water from oneedge of the glass. Now, you will be able to see a layer of oil floating on top ofthe water and the colors get dispersed into the water
THEOREY:- Since, oil is less denser than water it tends to float onwater without dissolving in it.

TRICK :- HOT WATER AND COLD WATER
ABOUT TRICK:-
Different temperature water has different density. Warmer water isless dense and will have a lower weight when compared to coldwater. First take one glass of cold water and add few drops of yellowfood colour and now take another glass of hot water and add fewdrops of red food colour to it. Carefully hold the index card on top ofthe hot (red) water and flip it upside down, resting the cup on top ofthe cold (yellow) water cup. Quickly remove the index card allowingthe cold water and hot water to mix. Now you can observe thatthese two do not mix because Whenever you put together twoliquids the liquid that is less dense will float on top of the denserliquid. Since hot water is less dense than cold water. When you putthe two together with the hot water on top these two do not mix. This is the principle of our experiment. We have explained this trickto our students and to some our faculty members. All of our teammates have performed our level best and tried to bring awarenessamong them. And here we are attaching some of our pictures takenduring our event.....

TRICK:- SODA WATER WITH GRAPES
ABOUT TRICK:-THINGS WHICH WE NEED:
2. Soda water3. Grapes
PROCEDURE:1. Fill the glass bowl with soda water about 3/4th of its depth.2. Drop some grapes with peel into the glass bowl.3. Now, peel of some grapes and place it in the glass bowl4. Wait for a period of 15-20 minutes.5. You can observe that the grapes which have peel remain constanton the top of the soda water and the grapes that don't have peelfluctuate up and down.
The grapes with no peel fluctuate up and down which is justbecause due to gravity, mass and density!

ABOUT THE TRICK:-
In bowl of water, we add a pepper powder and when youtouch it pepper attaches to finger if you apply soap to finger and nowif you keep it in bowl with pepper it doesn’t adhere to our finger …
TRICK:- PASSING WATER BETWEEN PAPERS TRICK
ABOUT THE TRICK:-
We arranged five transparent disposable glasses one afterthe other, as shown in the picture, and then filled the first, middleand last glass fully with water. The water in the three filled glasseswas colored with three different food colors (here, red, green andyellow). Then, the glasses were connected to each other usingblotting/tissue paper, and left to rest for about 40 minutes. It wasobserved that water transported through the paper from the threefiled glasses into the two empty glasses between them. The waterlevel in all the five glasses becomes equal.

TRICK:- LAVA LAMP
ABOUT THE TRICK:-
A glass is filled one fourth with water and three fourth with cookingoil. Food colour is added to the water to make it too the thick lookmore promising. When a tablet that prodices effervescences is addedto it. It produces bubbles escaping through the liquid. It is a feast toeyes and the trick was able to gather a big crowd
After performing the trick we spoke about World Water Day. We alsoeducated them on simple hack to save water. We advised that, weneed to do our bit to conserve water as it is one of the essentialcomponents of life.
TRICK:- BALLOON CANDLE TRICK
NSS UNIT AP11-007 REGULAR ACTIVITIES REPORT 2017-18
GVP COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (A) Page 111
ABOUT THE TRICK:-
This trick just based on simple physics law called as "ABSORPTION OFHEAT". When you put an object over a flame, it starts getting hot--gaining heat that is released from the flame. In a normal balloonfilled with air, the rubber of the balloon quickly heats, fraying andcoming apart—
so the balloon gets a hole and pops. But if the balloon is filled withwater, the heat that the balloon rubber is gaining can dissipate intothe water inside, raising the temperature of the water and leavingthe rubber surface cool and undamaged. This is because watertransfers heat much more efficiently than air, and has a higher heatcapacity (how much heat is needed to raise its temperature).
Due to this phenomenon, the balloon won’t pop.

TRICK:- CHANGING DIRECTION TRICK
ABOUT THE TRICK:-
This trick just based on simple physics law called as "REFRACTION".When light ray passes through the air and reaches the glass surfaceand then passes into water where it changes its refractive index. Andthis ray passes through the back surface of glass and then refracted. Thus at a certain focal length between image and glass. The focalpoint is formed in between them making the image reversed. Due tothis phenomenon, at a certain focal length when we peep the imagethrough the glass of water we can observe the reversed image.
And all this will happen only due to refraction of light...

TRICK:- FIRE AND WATER MAGIC TRICK
ABOUT THE TRICK:-
The phenomenon of water rising after covering a burning candlemainly involves the combustion of candle and the contraction oftrapped heat air.
EQUIPMENT:
o Beaker or a household glasso Candles with a floatable baseo Lighter or matcheso Pie pan or a plate(s) approximately 12” in diameter and ½”
deepo Water
EXPLANATION:Fill a plate with water about a ¼” deep. Light the candle and set it inthe middle of the plateWhen the burning candle is covered with the beaker, the flameeventually goes out because it uses up all the oxygen. Fire needsoxygen to burn. The other gas left behind has less pressurecompared to air. Remember that when the candle burns the oxygen

turns to carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide has less pressure thanOxygen. As a result of the different pressure inside the beaker, theair pressure outside the beaker tries to equalize the lower pressuredifference inside the beaker but does so by pushing the water intothe beaker. This is why the water rises. It is sitting between the airoutside of the beaker and the left over gases inside the beaker
