COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AND INFORMATION for the 2021 Acura Grand Prix

All racegoers will be required to follow COVID-19 protocols set forth in an August 18 Health Order by the Long Beach Health Dept.

The Health Order requires that attendees at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach wear facial coverings in all outdoor and indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. In addition, the Order states that “the City will require that staff and spectators at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, scheduled for September 24-26, 2021, as one of the largest special events in California, show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter, and masking for all individuals will be required.”

As a result of this Order, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is strongly recommending that unvaccinated persons who will need a negative COVID test to enter get a free COVID test no earlier than 72 hours prior to Sept. 24 to avoid any delay of entering the facility. In addition, the City of Long Beach will provide FREE rapid COVID testing at all major entryways to the race circuit. Starting on Tuesday of race week (Sept. 21), there will be a mobile unit at the Long Beach Blvd. entrance that will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For the latest news on COVID protocols for the race, visit gplb.com/covid-19-info.

PDS is the Driver Education program for the Porsche Owners Club. No previous track driving experience is necessary for a newcomer to enjoy the excitement, speed and safety of a PDS event while guided by a POC certified in-car instructor for every lap.

Time Trial (TT) is the Porsche Owners Club competition series for drivers interested in fast laps but not actual wheel-to-wheel racing. Drivers must have an active POC Performance Driving Series license or approval from our Chief Driving Instructor to run a TT event.

Cup Racing is the POC’s ultimate series. Characterized by its wheel-to-wheel action, Cup Racing requires drivers to complete two highly-intense Racer Clinics in order to obtain their racers license. Drivers must have an active Time Trial license in order to qualify.

JON IKEDA, VICE PRESIDENT & ACURA BRAND OFFICER ACURA BRAND OFFICE

Dear Race Fan,

Welcome to the 46th running of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and the second year for Acura’s title sponsorship of this iconic event in the heart of our Southern California home.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made this past year a challenging one for everyone, and we truly appreciate your continued support for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Through continuing to race and entertaining our loyal fans we can play a small part in trying to get back to normal.

Featuring a wide variety of on- and off-track activities for the entire family, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will be headlined by the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In addition, the weekend will feature the Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge; Stadium SUPER Trucks and the Historic Formula Atlantic Challenge.

With our U.S. headquarters nearby in Torrance, this is a true ‘home’ event for the Acura and Honda brands. The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is one of North America’s premier motorsports events, and an institution in Southern California. Acura is extremely proud to be associated with it.

This weekend’s races will feature many of the most talented teams and drivers from around the world, including Acura’s championship-wining Daytona Prototype International teams – Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing – in Saturday’s featured WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.

On Sunday, more than a dozen Honda-powered Indy car drivers will vie to continue our winning streak on the streets of Long Beach, where Honda drivers have found Victory Circle 14 times in 20 appearances, including the last three Long Beach races in succession.

Native Californian Jimmy Vasser scored Honda’s first Long Beach victory in 1996. Other Honda-powered winners on this iconic street circuit include Alex Zanardi (1997-98), Michael Andretti (2002), Dario Franchitti (2009), Takuma Sato (2013), James Hinchcliffe (2017) and Alexander Rossi, who comes in as the race’s two-time defending champion, having won in both 2018 and ‘19.

We hope you enjoy the races – and the many other available activities – at America’s #1 street circuit event. Have a great weekend!

MARK MILESPRESIDENT AND CEO, PENSKE ENTERTAINMENT

Dear INDYCAR fans:

Welcome to this weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, North America’s longest-running street race and the event where we’ll crown the 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion. INDYCAR is committed to delivering a comprehensive fan experience through outstanding entertainment and competition as our athletes defy all obstacles presented by Long Beach’s famed 1.968-mile course.

Whether this is your first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race or you have been attending the Grand Prix for years, we are excited for you to witness the spectacle of the sport. Long Beach Grand Prix’s festival atmosphere is unlike any other, so we urge you to take in as much as possible and enjoy it all.

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has the most diverse lineup of tracks in motorsports, with superspeedways, short ovals, permanent road courses and temporary street circuits. The collection makes for a true proving ground as elite athletes compete for the most challenging championship in motorsports.

The car used this weekend is one of a kind, featuring a sleek look with the most advanced safety components available. Honda and Chevrolet provide the 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engines, and no tire manufacturer can match Firestone for reliability and competitiveness. You likely will notice INDYCAR’s revolutionary driver-protection Aeroscreen that debuted on all cars in 2020.

The look of these cars is reminiscent of INDYCAR SERIES favorites of the 1980s and ‘90s, and driver skill is paramount as the low-downforce machines slip and slide on this challenging road course. Trust me when I say you will be able to see how hard the drivers must work to achieve maximum speed.

You should find that INDYCAR offers some of the most daring and defiant athletes in sport, including six-time and reigning series champion Scott Dixon, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves and California native Alexander Rossi, who has won the last two INDYCAR SERIES races on the streets of Long Beach.

While at the event, we invite you to download the INDYCAR Mobile app powered by NTT DATA on your smartphone to get behind-the-scenes driver features, live timing and scoring, in-car cameras and more information to help you follow the action. Also, follow the NTT INDYCAR SERIES online at INDYCAR.com, on Facebook and on Twitter (@INDYCAR).

Thank you for your continued support. INDYCAR appreciates your attendance this weekend. We are glad you can experience the speed, action and excitement that defines the series.

Enjoy the weekend!Mark MilesPresident and CEO, Penske EntertainmentParent company of INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Greetings IMSA Race Fans,

On behalf of the France family and our colleagues at IMSA, it is our honor to welcome you back to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The streets of Long Beach are hallowed ground, with so much racing history. We sorely missed our visit last year, but we will do our best to make up for it with a tremendous, 100-minute battle as the Saturday headliner.

Saturday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race features three outstanding classes of competition. For you, that means an action-packed afternoon with the world’s best sports car racers fighting it out all over this 1.968-mile street circuit.

Southern California is North America’s epicenter of car culture. It’s an extremely important market for every one of the 11 manufacturers that will be competing in Saturday’s race, which will ratchet up the excitement that much further.

All of us at IMSA and our teams and drivers cannot find the words to adequately express just how pleased we are to have you here with us at the racetrack. We invite you to join us in our paddock just over the bridge between Turns 9 and 10, where you can get an up close and personal look at these beautiful, state-of-the-art race cars and say ‘hello’ to many of our drivers and teams also.

Be sure to get your hands on one of our IMSA Fan Guides, download the IMSA App, tune into IMSA Radio or visit IMSA.com to stay up to date with what’s happening on the racetrack this week and throughout the 2021 season. And whenever you can’t be with us at the track, make sure you tune into NBC Sports’ fantastic television coverage of IMSA.

Once again, thank you so much for joining us here at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and for your continued support of IMSA.

GRAND PRIX IS THEIRAcura Motorsports and Honda Racing

Getting a chance to sponsor the greatest street race in North America is a rare occurrence. And after the 2018 race, when

the title sponsorship was available for the famed event on the streets of Long Beach, Acura jumped at the opportunity.

“It is a once in a lifetime type of opportunity that came up,” said Acura Brand Officer and General Manager Jon Ikeda. “I appreciate that our company realized that with the Acura brand, and this big push with the performance aspect of the company, to let us be the title sponsor.

“It’s huge, not only for us from an Acura perspective, but also for our dealers, and it couldn’t have been timed any better. Torrance is our headquarters – and it’s right down the street from Long Beach. It’s our home race from a company perspective.

“We are very fortunate and humbled to be part of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend.”

From parent company American Honda’s standpoint, it’s a chance to showcase its Acura and Honda brands on the legendary street course.

“It’s extremely important for us,” Ikeda said. “We’ve been on the road for more than four years now, focusing our brand back to its roots, which is ‘Precision Crafted Performance’. Once we talk about performance at our company, racing is a big part of our DNA.

“When it comes to racing, you can’t just say you are a performance brand, put a bunch of badges on it and call it a day. We, as a company, like to prove ourselves and showcase what we can do on the race track.”

David Salters is president of Honda Performance Development (HPD), the center of North American motorsports operations for both Honda and Acura. HPD builds the engines and provides engineering support to both the Acura IMSA and Honda INDYCAR programs.

“When we announced the Acura NSX production car, we also announced we had every intention to take it racing. The racing version of the car was developed side-by-side with the street version.”

“It’s a pretty special opportunity to be here at Long Beach and really special because we get to do our two ‘pinnacle’ programs. That’s the Acura ARX-05 and NSX GT3 Evo in Saturday’s IMSA race, followed by INDYCAR for Honda on Sunday, all on one glorious weekend on the best street circuit in North America.”

Two IMSA championship-winning teams – Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing – are the DPi race team partners for Acura and features some of the biggest names in endurance sports car racing, including IMSA champions Ricky Taylor and Dane Cameron.

The headline race on Sunday is the NTT INDYCAR SERIES event, and Honda has a long history of success. In fact, Honda driver Alexander Rossi of Andretti Autosport has taken the victory at Long Beach in the two most recent events (2018-19).

“You don’t have to be a motorsports enthusiast to come down and find something enjoyable,” Ikeda said. “When I talk to our team at Acura, we want to have fun with this brand. That is where we came from. We wanted to make it fun to drive high-performance vehicles and that is what we are pursuing

“When you think about fun and the weekend, there is a direct connection with what we are trying to do as a brand with what the race offers. I hope people enjoy themselves. There is something for everyone; for the kids, for music people, there are a lot of things going on all weekend beyond what car enthusiasts enjoy.

“We hope they enjoy the Acura party because it’s a big party for us, too.”

The streets of Long Beach will determine the 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion.

After last weekend’s Firestone Grand Prix at Monterey, Alex Palou, who finished second to race winner Colton Herta, is the favorite, holding a 35-point lead over Pato O’Ward, fifth at Monterey, and a 48-point lead over Josef Newgarden, who finished seventh.

Scott Dixon and Marcus Ericsson were eliminated from title consideration, Dixon falling back after a collision with Takuma Sato on Lap 40.

At Monterey, it was, basically, all Colton Herta in the #26 Gainbridge Honda. Starting from the pole, he led a total of 91 laps to the checkered flag for his second win in 2021. It was also his second straight win at Monterey and the fifth of his career.

Coincidently, his father, Bryan Herta, who serves as Colton’s race strategist for Andretti Autosport w/Curb-Agajanian, also won twice at Monterey, in 1998-99.

Colton finished 1.97 seconds ahead of Palou, driving the #10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Third place honors fell to Romain Grosjean, the rookie driver who put on a stirring late-race performance after starting 13th in the #51 NURTEC ODT Honda. He led four laps, but in the closing moments he raced past lapped traffic and made a fast-closing run at Herta and Palou.

Graham Rahal finished fourth with O’Ward wrapping up the top five. Marcus Ericsson, Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, Oliver

Askew and Ed Jones rounded out the top-10 finishers.

One driver in particular is looking forward to a return to Long Beach: Alexander Rossi. Wheeling the #27 Andretti Autosport Honda, Rossi will be seeking his third straight win here after finishing 25th at Monterey.

This weekend’s 46th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will mark the 16th straight year in which the IndyCar Series season champion will be crowned in the final race of the season and receive the prestigious Astor Challenge Cup.

And, mark your calendar for the 47th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, third race of the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES, on April 10!

The two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion claimed titles in 2017 - his first season with Team Penske -and again in 2019. A 20-time INDYCAR race winner, Newgarden had a career-best four wins in 2020. His dominating win at Iowa in 2016 set an INDYCAR record for most laps led by a race winner. A graduate of the Road to Indy, he won the 2011 Indy Lights championship with five race victories and was the recipient of INDYCAR’s Tony Renna Rising Star Award in 2012.

The New Zealand rookie started out racing karts, then graduated to the Supercars Championship Series, which he won for three straight years (2018-2020), including a series-record 18 race wins in 2019. He made his IndyCar debut with Team Penske last year at Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and this year finished 20th at the Indianapolis 500.

J Jimmie Johnson’s inspiration to become a race driver began at the Grand Prix of Long Beach more than 30 years ago.

At that time, he was a youngster from El Cajon, California who looked forward to beautiful spring days. That meant a trip with his dad to his favorite sporting event, the annual Grand Prix of Long Beach, where the top drivers in CART would race on the streets of this beautiful seaside community.

Beginning with his first visit in 1990, Johnson got to watch racing heroes like Mario and Michael Andretti, AJ Foyt, Rick Mears, and “The King of the Beach” – Al Unser, Jr.

“I still remember going in April as a young kid, the excitement and energy of a new season,” Johnson recalled. “I’d hang on the fence and watch and dream of being on the inside.”

Since that time, he has enjoyed a legendary career, including 83 race victories in NASCAR. He is one of only three drivers in history to win seven NASCAR championships, joining legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.

This season, the 45-year-old Johnson is no longer a kid, but he IS a rookie in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES driving the No. 48 Carvana/American Legion Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing on the 2021 street and road courses. On September 26, he’ll achieve a childhood dream when he competes in the 46th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“To have a chance to race there closes this loop from childhood dream to reality,” Johnson admitted. “To be close to the area I grew up, I’m sure I’ll have tons of friends to support me. It’s going to be a very fun weekend, and Sunday night we’ll have plenty to celebrate.

Johnson will be the latest legend to add his name to those who have raced and won at the Grand Prix of Long

Beach, such as Formula One greats like Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, Carlos Reutemann, Gilles Villeneuve, Nelson Piquet, Alan Jones, Niki Lauda and John Watson.

In 1984, it featured the cars and stars of the CART Series. Mario Andretti won three of the first four CART races at Long Beach in 1984, 1985 and 1987 and his son, Michael, won in 1986.

Al Unser, Jr. won the first of his record six Grands Prix of Long Beach in 1988. Paul Tracy is a four-time winner and Sebastien Bourdais won three years in a row, from 2005 to 2007.

Will Power won the final Champ Car race held at Long Beach in 2008 in a race that also paid points in the IndyCar Series. Since then, recent greats such as Dario Franchitti, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Scott Dixon, and Alexander Rossi are among the drivers that have driven to victory during that time, with Rossi coming to this year’s race as a two-time defending winner.

Now, it’s Johnson’s turn to hit the streets of Long Beach and compete in the race that began as a youngster’s dream over 30 years ago.

Admittedly, he’s found it challenging to adapt from an outstanding career in NASCAR to the much different type of racing in IndyCars, but when asked why he is doing this, he smiles.

“It’s a popular question, but I always wanted to experience an open-wheel car and specifically an Indy car,” Johnson said. “When I was young and growing up on the West Coast, that was the arc that racers took, and IndyCar was the sport to be in at the time.

“I’m very fortunate to be in the position where, at 45, I’m still able to chase a childhood dream.”

Three classes of the most advanced, exotic cars on the planet are set to meet Saturday in the 100-minute IMSA WeatherTech

SportsCar Championship shootout! The three classes – Daytona Prototype

International (DPi), GT LeMans (GTLM) and GT Daytona (GTD) – will take the green flag at 2:05 p.m., with two drivers taking turns behind the wheel of each car.

The DPi Class includes the fastest and most technologically advanced sports cars in North America, specifically designed and engineered for racing. Wild racing a series trademark!

Sheldon Creed, 5th in points, will not run at Long Beach. Creed is the defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion with 7 career wins in the series, and will be racing at Las Vegas.

A driver to watch? How about Max Gordon, the 13-year-old son of Robby Gordon and a fast-rising star. Racing since he was 8 years old, when he was 9 he was the youngest driver ever to participate in – and finish! – the rugged Baja 1000. And last year, he made his Stadium SUPER Trucks debut, finishing 5th and 9th in two races at Road America.

In 2019, Brabham and Robby Gordon each won a race on the Long Beach city streets, with Brabham going on to win the season championship, his second, tying him with Gordon and Creed at two series championships each.

Creed paces the series with 39 career wins, while Gordon has 27 and Brabham 23.

Following their Long Beach appearance, the series heads “down under” for races in New Zealand and on the Surfers Paradise Street Course in Gold Coast, Australia.

HISTORIC FORMULAATLANTIC CHALLENGEAcura Grand Prix of Long Beach race fans will get a double dose of nostalgia this weekend with the

two-race Historic Formula Atlantic Challenge, featuring great open-wheel race cars from the 1970s and 1980s. The 20-minute races will be run at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, with practice and

qualifying on Friday. A total of 35 cars are expected to compete. The F/Atlantic Series ran at Long Beach from 1978-1982 and 1989-2008 as one of the premier “feeder”

series to top-level open-wheel racing. Drivers such as Bobby Rahal, Michael Andretti, Willy T. Ribbs, Danny Sullivan, Al Unser Jr., Jimmy Vasser and Jacques Villeneuve all raced the cars at Long Beach as they worked their way up through the motorsports ranks.

Two former F/Atlantic drivers, Keke Roseberg and Villeneuve, became Formula One world champions, while 1979 Long Beach Grand Prix winner Gilles Villeneuve was also a F/Atlantic graduate and several other drivers became INDYCAR Series champions over the years. The Historic Formula Atlantic Challenge is sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA).“Hosting the historic Formula Atlantic cars at Long Beach is a natural,” said Cris Vandagriff, president of the HMSA. “Many INDYCAR and international racing stars got their start in Formula Atlantic, and the cars this weekend will be authentic in every detail from when they ran here on the city streets from the late 1970s through 2008.”

Rock idol Vince Neil takes center stageSATURDAY NIGHT CONCERT!

Saturday night’s concert stars Vince Neil, legendary front man of Mötley Crüe. The concert, presented by Acura and ASM Global and free with your Saturday race ticket, will take place on the Performing Arts Center plaza next to the Convention Center at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Neil’s unmistakable voice leads some of the greatest rock songs of a generation including “Wild Side”, “Shout at the Devil,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Kickstart My Heart,” “Same Ol’ Situation,” and many others.

“I am very excited to be returning to perform here. I had an awesome experience last time in 2015 and honored to be back. As known to many, I have been involved in the racing world my whole life, so when you mix racing with rock-and-roll in one event, I’m in heaven!”

As part of his racing career, in 1992, Neil competed in five Indy Lights Series races, finishing 17th here at Long Beach after a second-lap accident, then returned in 1995 to drive in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race!

Raised in Southern California, Neil performed with local bands as a teenager before reuniting with high school buddy Tommy Lee in 1981 with the formation of Mötley Crüe.

Mötley Crüe’s epic 34-year run included countless multi-platinum releases, more than 22 hit singles, 100 million albums sold and dozens of sold-out global tours. The band completed “The Final Tour” on New Year’s Eve 2015. However, Neil continues to carry on with “The Legacy Continues Tour,” performing all the classic Mötley Crüe hits.

Neil is also an accomplished businessman, owning several restaurants and his own brand of both tequila and vodka. A heartfelt philanthropist, he has raised millions of dollars for the non-profit Skylar Neil Memorial Foundation, a tribute to the unfortunate loss of his daughter to cancer in 1995.

Space at the outdoor stage is limited, available on a first-come/first-served basisand subject to Fire Marshal capacity regulations.

Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach Grand Marshal

MICHAEL ANDRETTISon of racing legend Mario Andretti, Michael has himself carved out a

distinguished career as both a race car driver and team owner. He began his racing career in 1980, joining the Formula Ford

series after graduating from high school. He graduated to the open-wheel Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series in 1983 and soon established himself as a driver to be reckoned with.

He won twice here at Long Beach - bookending his career with his first Indy car win in 1986 and his final victory in 2002— and overall scored 42 wins in 309 races, including 11 in a 1991 championship year driving for Newman-Haas Racing. Coincidently, his brother, Jeff, was CART Rookie of the Year that same season.

He ventured into Formula One racing in 1993, but a series of incidents and mechanical woes ended most of his races, with one podium finish in 13 races.

Andretti has had success in other racing series as well. He won the 1991 Marlboro Challenge driving a Lola/Chevy for Newman Haas Racing and has competed four times in the 24 Hours of LeMans, with a best finish 3rd in 1983.

The 46th Acura Grand Prix will have four drivers under the Andretti livery: Colton Herta (Andretti Autosport w/Curb-Agajainian), Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport) and James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport), with Rossi seeking his third straight win on the streets of Long Beach.

THEY WILL BE MISSED

DAVE MARSHALL Dave Marshall died June 6, 2019 from complications of a golf cart accident at the

age of 76. He passed away less than 48 hours after his wife of 25 years, Carol, died after a long-term battle with multiple sclerosis.

Born in Artesia, he grew up in Lakewood and was a star high school baseball player who went on to play seven seasons in the Major Leagues, three each with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets and one with the San Diego Padres.

He retired from baseball in 1974 and, for the next decade, was involved in ownership of several Manhattan restaurants before returning to Southern California in 1984. In 2002, Marshall started working for SMG (now ASM Global) as Parking Manager and was also chair of the City of Long Beach Parking and Traffic Management Organization,

involving the Convention Center, Convention & Visitors Bureau and Aquarium of the Pacific, organizing parking for major downtown events including the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Dave and Carol are survived by Marshall’s son Dave and daughter Aimee Gardner; and Carol’s son from a former marriage, Robert Wells, daughter Sherri Wells and six grandchildren.

BRUCE FLANDERSBruce Flanders, the longtime voice of the Grand Prix of Long Beach, passed away

August 14, 2020 at the age of 75. Flanders was the official announcer for the race since 1978, with an energetic and enthusiastic voice that became synonymous with the sunshine and excitement of Long Beach’s signature event.

He became known as the “Chick Hearn of Racing,” with his style of mixing humor, information and analysis similar to that of the late L.A. Lakers announcer.

“The ‘Voice of the Grand Prix’ has been silenced,” said Jim Michaelian, president and CEO of the Grand Prix. “There are so many great Grand Prix moments that Bruce was a part of. We will miss him and never forget his melodious voice on race days.”

Or, his great sense of humor, which manifested itself in his popular ”Ugliest Hawaiian Shirt” contest held every year at the Grand Prix.

Born in Pasadena, Flanders attended St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge. His father Earl, a world-class motorcyclist, owned a shop in Pasadena where Bruce helped produce customized motorcycle handlebars. It also kindled his love for speed and, when he was 28, Bruce set a record on the Bonneville Salt Flats for Fastest Production Motorcycle at 141.703 mph. The record stood for seven years.

Inducted into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame in 2016, Flanders was well-known to race fans throughout Southern California as the announcer at the Irwindale Speedway, Costa Mesa Speedway, Industry Speedway and many other events.

He was diagnosed with COPD in 2008 and carried an oxygen tank with him to all his announcing duties. A Vietnam war veteran, Flanders believed exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam damaged his lungs and led to the COPD.

Vicki, his wife of 37 years, passed away in 2018. Bruce is survived by a son, Michael – also an announcer – and daughter Megan, who served as a field reporter for the Flanders team.

ED HORGANEd Horgan lived a full life. After growing up in San Diego, Masonry became his trade

and he was one of the best at it. Ed loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed his Mountain Man rendezvous with his friends. Later in life he took up fly tying and loved it, going fly fishing in the Sierras every year.

He had fun working Alfa 2 at the Grand Prix of Long Beach for 40 years, and his safety handling and orange gloves at Turn 9 will be missed. His last days were spent dove hunting in Arizona with his brother, Gary Horgan. Just two days after their return he passed away. He is deeply missed. RIP.

GREG REMSENGreg crossed his final finish line in May 2020. A true racer at heart and champion of

motorsports, he was the California Sports Car Club’s Race Chairman for the Grand Prix of Long Beach from 2000 through 2018, volunteering in some capacity for Cal Club at every Grand Prix since its inception.

He assisted the four previous Chairmen and was unofficially dubbed the “Chief of the Unknown Specialty” as he would pull off last minute “miracles” to fix, find, deliver or coordinate with Operations staff to resolve unexpected track-side issues and help keep the race schedule on time. He shared his love and expertise for the race with his son, (Tyler) Skip Remsen, who has succeeded him in the Race Chairman position.

Greg grew up in Burbank, CA and joined CSCC in 1979, building his own race cars in his garage, racing regional and Pacific run-off events into the 1990’s. He was a successful business owner for 46+ years. He also shared motocross racing, go-carts, desert off-roading, surfing and waterskiing with his son, family and friends. He is survived by his wife Judy, son Skip and sister Carol.

OSCAR KOVELESKIRacing legend Oscar Koveleski passed away Dec. 28, 2020 at the age of 88.

Born in Scranton, PA, Koveleski got his love of speed at an early age, learning to fly at age nine! At 18, he joined the Philadelphia Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and scored his first racing victory in 1951.

He went on to race regularly in SCCA races, as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. From 1969-72, he competed in the Can-Am Series in his widely recognized orange #54 car.

In 1988, Koveleski first organized racing for kids in battery-powered cars at Watkins Glen. Since then, his KidRacers – a must-visit spot for families in the Grand Prix Lifestyle Expo! – have helped more than 100,000 kids enjoy free KidRacer rides. In addition,

Koveleski has raised more than $250,000 in charitable donations to many organizations through KidRacer auctions and car donations.

Thirty years before, in 1958, be founded the highly successful Auto World, a mail-order company that sold model cars and slot cars, introducing countless families to the world of auto racing. His career and contributions to the sport earned him election to the Road Racing Drivers Club and the SCCA Hall of Fame.

GRAND PRIXFOUNDATION

Official Race Artist BILL PATTERSON Prominent motorsports artist Bill Patterson has been named the

Official Artist for the 46th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, with his colorful artwork featured on the official souvenir race poster and also

the covers of the online Fan Guide and Official Program. The resident of Bulverde, Tex. was drawn to downhill skiing at an early

age in his native Wyoming. Patterson, who saw his first race in Argentina at the age of 13, attended his first Grand Prix of Long Beach in 1988 and immediately recognized in auto racing the same “edge” he knew from skiing, describing it as the edge of precision, calculated speed and technical limits with infinite exhilaration.

“I am so delighted to be the Official Artist for the 46th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach,” Patterson said. “To be in included in the historical record of this iconic event is an honor and I love the finished image. I can’t wait to absorb the sights and sounds – and turn inspiration into a series of Live Art paintings.”

Patterson, who has been the official artist of WeatherTech Raceway in Laguna Seca since 2004, is regularly commissioned by private clients for parties as well as corporate clients such as BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, FedEx, Firestone, Microsoft and Lamborghini, to perform “live art.”

The 46th Acura Grand Prix will also feature Patterson’s live art, as he
