‘Arts’ play an important role in molding the minds of students. In this age of

technology and concrete jungles, art is of paramount importance. The Arts Club at

Baselius College helps its student community to develop a positive nature and a

creatively inclined student with a positive bend of mind and aesthetic approaches in

every work he or she does. The Arts Club provides a place and platform for people

who share a connection with the transformative artistic moments of the past, but are

also part of defining the Baselian vision for the future.

Ensuing forth is the Annual Report, for 2018-19 of the Arts Club, which shall provide a

clear and complete picture of the Club’s accomplishments over this past year. The focus

during the past year was twofold: a) maintaining the tradition of conducting

distinguished contests for which the Arts Club is celebrated, b) Apart from participating

in a multitude of events, the students get a firsthand experience of organizing and

managing the events, it caters to the creative needs of the students. Under the guidance

of teachers -in-charge (Prof. Jinu Mathew, Prof. Shetal Elizabeth Thomas and

Dr.Krishnaraj M.V.) and committed and capable Union members, with special mention

of the Arts club secretary Vishnu Prasad ( D3 Economics), the Arts Club has been

able to conduct a handful of good programmes and also bag some notable

University Arts Festival- Alathalam 2019 at Kottayam

ONAM CELEBRATIONS

Onam was celebrated with full zest every year. Reeling under the unprecedented havoc

caused by heavy rain, the college community has resolved to do away from celebrating

Onam this year and utilize the amount for relief operations.

KERALA PIRAVI CELEBRATIONS

Observing the great tradition and imbibing the true spirit of Keralite, Kerala

Piravi was celebrated on 1st November 2018, Thursday. Kerala Sreeman and Shalini

competitions were conducted. The judging panel of Kerala Sreeman and Shalini consisted

of Prof Thara Thomas, Prof Jithin John and Prof Sani Mary Benjamin. The title of

Kerala Sreeman was bestowed upon Lawrence Mathew of Department of Economics.

The title Kerala Shalini was bestowed upon Krishnendu R of Department of Physics.

College campus looks very colourful as the staff and students of the college came decked

in traditional Kerala saree and dhoti.

AGNITHRAYA: ARTS FESTIVAL 2018-19,

The key event of the Arts club- Annual Arts Festival – which aims at providing

students a platform for improving their capabilities to work as a team and raising their

level of self-confidence in interacting with fellow students and peers, was inaugurated

on 6th

February at 10.00 am with a formal inauguration function, and the rules were

explained Dr. Krishnaraj M V, Convener of common celebrations and Assistant

Professor,

Department of Botany, Baselius College. Over the following two days many young

energetic talents took the stage and delivered a host of performances. In order to instill

the true spirit of competition, the cultural committee of the college, comprised of the

teachers-in charge of Arts Club, House Masters, the Arts Cub Secretary and other

student representatives, grouped the students of various batches into four different

houses “Ragam”, “Thalam”, Layam”, “Nadam”. All the Competitions were conducted

separately for boys and girls. The following are the details:

HOUSES

Off stage items flagged off on 21/01/2019 and continued till 25/01/2019. The

off stage events including on the spot painting, clay modeling, pencil drawing…

all had inspiring themes of hope and love.

On stage items was held on 6, 7 and 8th

of February.

Events were staged at Balabhaskar Nagar (Auditorium), Lenin Rajendran Nagar

(Room No.212)

The inauguration of the Arts Festival was a unique experience. The lighting of lamp

was done by Dr.Shyla Abraham, Union Advisor and Vice Principal, Baselius College.

The Arts Festival got off to a colourful start when Play back singer Sri Job Kurian, the

invited guest of honour officially inaugurated the Arts festival on 1st of October 2018.

He gave a memorable and inspiring address which was indeed a food for thought for the

entire student community. He stressed the role of co curricular activities in shaping the

attitude to life in the impressionable minds.

All the four houses participated in the right spirit of the Arts Festival and at the end of it

the four houses fared thus:

First – RAGAM with 219 points

Second – LAYAM with 215 points

Third – SWARAM with 150 points

Fourth – NADAM with 135 points

Chanthu Milan Santhu (D3 Physics) and Swathy G Krishna (D1 Physics) were

adjudged as Kalaprathiba and Kalathilakam respectively.

The University Arts Festival was scheduled from February 29, 2019 to March 4, 2019

at Kottayam. There was appreciable participation from our college.

A total of 69 students participated in 38 individual items and 6 group items – Quiz,

Group Song Indian, Margamkali, Duffmuttu, Skit and Mime.

CONCLUSION

The students enthusiastic participation whether on stage or as part of the audience was

perceivable all along. It was a year of some marvelous performance, achievements,
