Taking this information into account I analysed the age ratings of some of the most popular dystopian movies. I found that none of the most popular films were under the age rating of a 12, suggesting my target audience will all be teenagers and adults, these films such as Maze Runner and The Hunger Games all are based around a simple plot of two sides one in power and one without and the rebellion that follows indicating that for a younger teenage audience the overall plot line must be easily followed.

However the second list of popular films I analysed was older dystopian films all R rated suggesting this side of dystopia is targeting the younger adults to all adults, this is also shown by how they present their film covers, for a younger audience the cover suggests adventure and with young actors yet the covers targeting older audiences were more specific to the film, not giving much away.

For my film opening my target audience will the same as films such as Maze Runner so will not be targeting anadult audience.

I created an avatar to portray who my target audience might be. Firstly I chose to make both the avatars 16 years old as this age is right in the middle of my target audience of teenagers 13-18. I did both a girl and a boy as the dystopian genre is appealing to bothFor the girl I designed her features to be a typical teenage girl, makeup, styled hair, natural colour, with a few piercings to signify her age. I felt a girl with piercings were a stereotypical characteristic of a teenage girl.

For the boy I designed his features to be a stereotypical of a teenage boy therefore gave him a stylish hair cut and a piercing to imply he is interested in keeping up with the fashion.

For the clothing I decided for that a girl that will keep up to date on watching new releases may also keep up with the fashion, so gave her a stylish top and jeans however I felt the colours should not be typically girly colours and more unisexual as sci-fi films are not for a specific gender, I added to this by giving her trendy unisex boots.

For his clothing I also felt that a boy who will go and see new cinema releases would also keep up with fashion, so I gave him a stylish jacket and trainers, however I chose the green cut of trousers to link in with the dystopian genre and typical adventurous costume (e.g Peter from The Hunger Games .

For both avatars I gave them mobile phones and a remote control to emphasis that they are teenagers and enjoy watching films.

I deliberately made the girl white and the boy black to show there is no racial target audience, similarly there would be no social class.
