I have created two avatars of what I thought is the most likely the audience for a music video of the genre ‘Contemporary R&B’. The age of the audience would mainly be between 14-25 year olds. However, this doesn’t mean that people older or younger than this age bracket cannot listen to this genre it means that majority of the audience are between these ages. I would also expect this audience to be interested in Soul, Jazz, funk, Hip Hop and pop music. The reason why it reaches out to male and female audience is because the music videos usually has features that attract both genders. Some features include memorable song lyrics, female dancers, upbeat and fast pace instrumental and a rapper. Although R&B originated from African tribes this genre attracts a wide range audience and it doesn’t matter what race, age and gender you are to be able to listen to this genre.

I would expect this audience to always be up to date with the latest songs of their favourite artists, have most social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter) and up to date with latest technology. Furthermore, I would imagine them to always be out with friends rather than in with the family. As well as that, I would think that they are into their designer brand clothing as well as the high street brands. The target audience of R&B is becoming widely more diverse and as the genre expands the types of people it reaches out to also grows.
