Target Audience!

Page 2: Target audiances

First of all, I’m going to look at some different, already existing magazines to decide on a specific target audience. Although I have an idea of a general audience, it would obviously better to go into more detail and think about exactly who I want the magazine to appeal to as the target market. To find the ideal target market there are a few factors to think about, such as what genre of music and artists will be featured as well as the maturity and reading level of the text.

NME magazine has a target audience of usually males between the ages of 16-25 as it is quite a contemporary , modern magazine. It tends to be quite informal. Although this seems to be the target audience NME could appeal to a wider audience as it features a weekly singles chart which would be informative to anyone interested in music. It also, like pretty much all music magazines has interviews with artists and reviews. However it is clear that NME has a tendency to feature artists that are more of the rock – rock/pop genre, while sometimes featuring artists such as Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey.

KERRANG! Magazine’s target audience is pre/teens up to mid twenties who are interested in the rock – punk – punk/rock genres. Issues of this magazine often includes artists such as Paramore, Green Day, Bring Me The Horizon and My Chemical Romance. The magazine often features explicit language which would appeal to a younger audience, as well as featuring a weekly comic named ‘Pandora’ by Ray Zell which could be considered rather crude and distasteful to some, however entertaining by the magazine’s target audience.
