TheROBICONPerfectHarmonydrivesachieveanuncompromisingperformancebyemployingproventechnologyinamodularconfiguration,asshowninFigure2.2.Medium-voltagelevelsareobtainedbycombiningtheoutputsofmultiplelow-voltagepowercells.Thelow-voltagepowercellsaresimplifiedvariationsofstandard2levelPWMmotordrivesforlowvoltageservice,whichhavebeenbuiltinhighvolumeformanyyears.

Forhigheroutputvoltagecapabilities,theROBICONPerfectHarmonytopologycanbeextendedtohaveupto8powercells1)inseriesineachphase,withadditionalsecondarywindings(numberofsecondariesequalsnumberofpowercells)ontheintegralisolationtransformer.

Eachpowercelliscapableofreceivinginputpowerat750VAC,3-phase,50/60Hzanddeliveringthatpowertoasinglephaseloadatavariablefrequencyfrom0.5tothemaximumratedoutputfrequencyofthedrive.

Transformer

Thetransformerisanintegralpartofthedriveandcannotbespecifiedorobtainedseparately.IthasbeencarefullydesignedoverseveralgenerationstofunctionproperlywiththeROBICONPerfectHarmonydrive.

ROBICONPerfectHarmonytransformersaredry-typeliquid-cooled.TheyaredesignedspecificallyforusewithaparticularROBICONPerfectHarmonydriveandhave9to18extendeddeltasecondaries.Thesecondarycurrentsarerichinharmonics,buttheprimarycurrentisvirtuallysinusoidal.Itisveryimportanttorecognizethatthisisnoordinarytransformerwhichcanbeobtainedasanoff-the-shelfitem.

Theusualstandards,ANSIC5712.51andC5712.91,applytotransformerswithonlyafewwindingsandwhicharesubjectedtosinusoidalcurrents.Thus,therearesomeimportantexceptionsandmodificationstotheapplicationofthesestandardstoROBICONPerfectHarmonytransformers.

Proven IGBTs

InsulatedGateBipolarTransistors(IGBTs)formthebackboneoftheROBICONPerfectHarmonydrive.Builtinhighvolumesandservingasaprovenpowerdeviceacrosstheindustrialpowercontrolindustry,IGBTtechnologyhasbeeninexistenceformorethanadecade.ThestabilityandavailabilityofIGBTsgivereliable,long-term,lifecycleconfidence.

Linked low-voltage cells

IntheROBICONPerfectHarmony,aseriesoflow-voltagecells(seefigure2.3)arelinkedtogethertobuildthemedium-voltagepoweroutputofthedrivesystem.ThispatentedmodularconfigurationgivestheROBICONPerfectHarmonymanyadvantageswhenitcomestomaintenance,powerqualityandreliability.Italsoprovidesthebasisforoneofitsmostimportantadvantages–increasedavailabilitythroughtheadvancedcellbypassoption.

Advanced cell bypass

TheROBICONPerfectHarmonyisdesignedtowithstandfailuresthatwouldoverwhelmconventionaldrivesbecauseredundancyoptionsareaddedintothesystem.Thepatented,cell-basedconfigurationmaximizesuptimeandsimplifiesmodifications.

Througharedundantbypasscontrolthatiscompletelyseparatedfromeachpowercell,theROBICONPerfectHarmonyensuresautomaticbypassofafailedpowercellinlessthan250ms.

SincethecellsineachphaseofaROBICONPerfectHarmonydriveareinseries,bypassingacellhasnoeffectonthecurrentcapabilityofthedrive,butthevoltagecapabilitywillbereduced.Usuallytherequiredmotorvoltageisroughlyproportionaltospeed,sothatthemaximumspeedatwhichthedrivecanfulfilltheapplicationrequirementswillalsobereduced.

Therefore,itisimportanttomaximizethemotorvoltageavailableafteroneormorecellshavebeenbypassed.ThefollowingfiguresillustratethevoltageavailablefromaROBICONPerfectHarmonydrive,wherethecells,representedbycircles,areshownassimplevoltagesources.Figure2.4showsa15-celldriveinwhichnocellsarebypassed.With100%ofthecellsinuse,100%oftheoriginalvoltageisavailable.ThevoltagecommandstothethreephasegroupsofcellswillhavephaseAdisplacedfromphaseBby120°,andfromphaseCby120°.

Onepossibleremedyistobypassanequalnumberofcellsinallthreephases,eventhoughsomemaynothavefaulted.Figure2.6illustratesthisapproach.Obviously,thismethodpreventsunbalancebutsacrificespossiblevoltagecapability.Inthisfigure,87%ofthecellsarefunctional,butonly60%areinuse,andonly60%offullvoltageisavailable.

Abetterapproachisillustratedinfigure2.7.Thismethodtakesadvantageofthefactthatthestar-pointofthecellsisfloating,andisnotconnectedtotheneutralofthemotor.Thereforethestar-pointcanbeshiftedawayfromthemotorneutral,andthephaseanglesofthecellvoltagescanbeadjusted,sothatabalancedsetofmotorvoltagesisobtainedeventhoughthecellgroupvoltagesarenotbalanced.

Pre-charge operation for WCIII drive

Withtheuseoffilmcapacitors,ithasbecomenecessarytocontroltheinrushcurrentintothecellmodulesusedbytheROBICONPerfectHarmonyWCIIIdrive.Bycontrollingtheinrushcurrent,excessivecurrentsandvoltageovershootwithinthecellareeliminated.Apre-chargesystemisusedtocontroltheinrushcurrentsseenbythecells.Inaddition,thepre-chargecircuitmaybeoptionallyusedasapre-magnetizationcircuittolimittransformerinrushcurrents.

Thepre-chargecircuitconsistsofacollectionofcapacitors,resistors,andcontactorsmountedwithintheFuse/Pre-charge/Control(FPC)cabinetontheinputsectionofthedrive.(RefertoFigure2.8).Ontheleftisthelowvoltagepre-chargesourcecominginthroughthepre-chargecircuitbreakerintothepre-chargecircuit.Ontherightsideistheconnectionfromthepre-chargecircuittoasetofsecondarywindingsoftheinputtransformer.Voltageduringpre-chargeismonitoredthroughtheinputattenuatorsontheprimarysideofthetransformer.Whenpre-chargeiscomplete,acontactorconnectsthemediumvoltagesourcetothetransformerprimarywinding.

Drive Selection Criteria

The following tables help you to select the right converter type and give an overview of the corresponding motor data and order numbers. The tables are organized according to the motor voltages. For the complete technical data of the listed converter types refer to Chapter 3.

In order to select the right ROBICON Perfect Harmony drive, please take into consideration the following steps:

Step 1 – Choosing the right cell size

1.1 Determine the maximum continuous motor current, temporary overload not included: • Use the motor full load line current (FLA) if available or use the following formula to calculate motor current I.

• If the motor power factor (PFmotor) and efficiency at full load are not known then use the following default values:

– PF motor = 0.88 – h motor = 0.96

• Factor in the motor service factor (SF) if the application will make use of it under long term operation. You do so by multiplying the given/calculated current (from step 1.1) by the motor SF.

1.2 Determine the minimum continuous cell current rating: • If the drive is intended to operate within nominal parameters, the maximum continuous motor current will be the minimum continuous cell current rating.

1.3 Factor in any overload requirements: • For the cell chosen on the previous paragraph, make sure it can handle the application overload requirements by checking overload capabilities (see page 2/8). • If the overload requirements exceed the capabilities of the chosen cell then the next larger cell size must be selected.

Step 2 – Choosing the right transformer

2.1 The ROBICON Perfect Harmony transformer rating is based on the motor shaft horsepower: • If the drive is intended to operate within nominal parameters and without added redundant cells, the maximum continuous motor horsepower (hp) will be used to rate the transformer using a straight formula: 1 transformer kVA per each motor hp • The above rule is followed regardless of motor type.

2.2 The transformer is designed to support the temporary overloads associated with the cells it feeds. If those levels are exceeded by the application requirements, please contact the factory or your local Siemens sales representative.

SOP UtilitiesTheSystemOperatingProgram(SOP)isthelogicthatmapstheinternalandexternalI/Ointothefunctionalityofthedrive.Initssimplestform,itjustmapsinternalstatestoexternalpoints.Inmorecomplexforms,additionalcomplexlogic,intheformofBooleanlogic,aswellastimers,counters,andcomparators,expressthesystemfunctionalitytothedrive.

TheSOPUtilitiesisagroupofutilitiesundertheToolSuiteumbrellaprogram.ItperformsmostofthefunctionalityonthePCrunningtheToolSuite,buthasserialcommunicationscapabilityforuploadinganddownloadingtheSystemProgramdirectlytothedriveviaanRS232interfacebetweenthedriveandthePC.ThepurposeoftheSOPUtilitiesToolistoconvertlogicstatementsintoaformofmachine-recognizablecodethatisrununderthebuilt-indriveSOPinterpreter.

Available Drive Power as a Function of Input Voltage

Input under-voltage rollback

In the event that the input voltage falls below 90 %, the attached description provides details of drive limitations.

When the input line voltage drops below 90 % of its rated value, the drive limits the amount of power (and hence the torque) that can be delivered to the load. The maximum allowable drive power as a function of line voltage is shown in the figure below. At 66 % input voltage, the maximum drive power is limited to 50 % and is quickly reduced to a slightly negative value (regen limit) at 65 %. This limit forces the drive to absorb power from the motor and maintain the (power cell) DC-bus voltages in case the input voltage recovers during MV ride-through. The limit is implemented as an inverse function of speed in order to maintain constant power flow to the (cell) DC-bus.

Once the input voltage falls below 65 %, the drive reduces output power to a slightly negative value and maintains synchronism with the motor for a period greater than five cycles. Once input voltage is restored, the drive begins by magnetizing the motor and then continues with torque production. There is no delay in drive restart.

If input voltage is not restored after five cycles the drive maintains synchronism with the motor as long as the power cells can operate without input power or as long as there is motor voltage (to synchronize to). Once operation of any power cell stops or if motor voltage decays significantly, the drive trips on a loss of input medium-voltage.

(d)Taxes,Shipping,Packing,Handling–Excepttothe extentexpresslystatedintheseterms,Siemens’prices donotincludeanyfreight,storage,insurance,taxes, excises,fees,dutiesorothergovernmentcharges relatedtotheProduct,andBuyershallpaysuch amountsorreimburseSiemensforanyamounts Siemenspays.IfBuyerclaimsataxorother exemptionordirectpaymentpermit,itshallprovide Siemenswithavalidexemptioncertificateor permitandindemnify,defendandholdSiemens harmlessfromanytaxes,costsandpenaltiesarising outofsame.Siemens’pricesincludethecostsofits standarddomesticpackingonly.Anydeviationfrom thisstandardpacking(domesticorexport),including U.S.Governmentsealedpacking,shallresultin extracharges.Todeterminesuchextracharges, consultSiemens’salesoffices.Anyandallincreases, changes,adjustmentsorsurcharges(including, withoutlimitation,fuelsurcharges)whichmaybein connectionwiththefreightcharges,ratesor classificationincludedaspartoftheseterms,shallbe fortheBuyer’saccount.Ordersoflessthan$400are subjecttoa$25handlingfee. Delivery;Title;RiskofLoss.Productshallbedelivered F.O.B.Siemenspointofshipmentwithtitletothe ProductandriskoflossordamagefortheProduct passingtoBuyeratthatpoint.Buyershallberesponsible foralltransportation,insuranceandrelatedexpenses includinganyassociatedtaxes,dutiesordocumentation. Siemensmaymakepartialshipments.Shippingdatesare approximateonlyandSiemensshallnotbeliableforany lossorexpense(consequentialorotherwise)incurred byBuyerorBuyer’scustomersifSiemensfailstomeet thespecifieddeliveryschedule.A5%handlingchargewill beaddedtothepriceforallProductfurnishedfroma localbranch.

 4.DefermentandCancellation.Buyershallhaveno defermentrightsandBuyershallbeliableforcancellation charges,whichshallincludewithoutlimitation (a)paymentofthefullproductpriceforanyfinished Productorworksinprogress; (b)paymentforrawmaterialsorderedpursuanttoafirm purchaseorder;and (c)suchotherdirectcostsincurredbySiemensasaresult ofsuchcancellation.

 5.ForceMajeure/Delays.IfSiemenssuffersdelayin performanceduetoanycausebeyonditsreasonable control,includingwithoutlimitationactsofGod,strikes, laborshortageordisturbance,fire,accident,waror civildisturbance,delaysofcarriers,failureofnormal sourcesofsupply,oractsofgovernment,thetimeof performanceshallbeextendedaperiodoftimeequalto theperiodofthedelayanditsconsequences.Siemens willgivetoBuyernoticewithinareasonabletimeafter Siemensbecomesawareofanysuchdelay.

6. Buyer’sRequirements.TimelyperformancebySiemens iscontingentuponBuyer’ssupplyingtoSiemensall requiredtechnicalinformationanddata,including drawingapprovals,andallrequiredcommercial documentation.

 7.LimitedWarranty. (a)LimitedProductWarrantyStatements.Foreach ProductpurchasedfromSiemensoranauthorized reseller,Siemensmakesthefollowinglimited warranties:(i)theProductisfreefromdefectsin materialandworkmanship,(ii)theProduct materiallyconformstoSiemens’specificationsthat areattachedto,orexpresslyincorporatedbyreference into,theseterms,and(iii)atthetimeofdelivery, SiemenshastitletotheProductfreeandclearof liensandencumbrances(collectively,the“Limited Warranties”).Warrantieswithrespecttosoftware whichmaybefurnishedbySelleraspartofthe

Product,ifany,areexpresslysetforthelsewherein theseterms.TheLimitedWarrantiessetforthherein donotapplytoanysoftwarefurnishedbySiemens.If softwareisfurnishedbySiemens,thentheattached SoftwareLicense/WarrantyAddendumshallapply. (b)ConditionstotheLimitedWarranties.TheLimited Warrantiesareconditionedon(i)Buyerstoring, installing,operatingandmaintainingtheProduct inaccordancewithSiemens’instructions,(ii) norepairs,modificationsoralterationsbeingmade totheProductotherthanbySiemensoritsauthorized representatives,(iii)usingtheProductwithinany conditionsorincompliancewithanyparametersset forthinspecificationsthatareattachedto,or expresslyincorporatedbyreferenceinto,theseterms, (iv)BuyerdiscontinuinguseoftheProductafterit has,orshouldhavehad,knowledgeofanydefectin theProduct,(v)Buyerprovidingpromptwrittennotice ofanywarrantyclaimswithinthewarrantyperiod describedbelow,(vi)atSiemens’discretion,Buyer eitherremovingandshippingtheProductornon- conformingpartthereoftoSiemens,atBuyer’s expense,orBuyergrantingSiemensaccesstothe Productsatallreasonabletimesandlocationsto assessthewarrantyclaims,and(vii)Buyernotbeing indefaultofanypaymentobligationtoSiemensunder theseterms. (c)ExclusionsfromLimitedWarrantyCoverage.The LimitedWarrantiesspecificallyexcludeanyequipment comprisingpartoftheProductthatisnot manufacturedbySiemensornotbearingits nameplate.Totheextentpermitted,Siemensherby assignsanywarrantiesmadetoSiemensforsuch equipment.SiemensshallhavenoliabilitytoBuyer underanylegaltheoryforsuchequipmentorany relatedassignmentofwarranties.Additionally,any Productthatisdescribedasbeingexperimental, developmental,prototype,orpilotisspecifically excludedfromtheLimitedWarrantiesandisprovided toBuyer“asis”withnowarrantiesofanykind.Also excludedfromtheLimitedWarrantiesarenormal wearandtearitemsincludinganyexpendableitems thatcomprisepartoftheProduct,suchasfusesand lightbulbsandlamps. (d)LimitedWarrantyPeriod.Buyershallhave12months frominitialoperationoftheProductor18months fromshipment,whicheveroccursfirst,toprovide Siemenswithprompt,writtennoticeofanyclaimsof breachoftheLimitedWarranties.Continueduseor possessionoftheProductafterexpirationofthe warrantyperiodshallbeconclusiveevidencethatthe LimitedWarrantieshavebeenfulfilledtothefull satisfactionofBuyer,unlessBuyerhaspreviously providedSiemenswithnoticeofabreachofthe LimitedWarranties.

(e)RemediesforBreachofLimitedWarranty.Buyer’ssole andexclusiveremediesforanybreachoftheLimited WarrantiesarelimitedtoSiemens’choiceofrepairor replacementoftheProduct,ornon-conformingparts thereof,orrefundofallorpartofthepurchaseprice.  9.PatentandCopyrightInfringement.Siemenswill,atits ownexpense,defendoratitsoptionsettleanysuitor proceedingbroughtagainstBuyerinsofarasitisbased onanallegationthatanyProduct(includingparts thereof),orusethereofforitsintendedpurpose, constitutesaninfringementofanyUnitedStates patentorcopyright,ifSiemensispromptlyprovided noticeandgivenauthority,information,andassistance inatimelymannerforthedefenseofsaidsuitor proceeding.Siemenswillpaythedamagesandcosts awardedinanysuitorproceedingsodefended.Siemens willnotberesponsibleforanysettlementofsuchsuitor proceedingmadewithoutitspriorwrittenconsent.In casetheProduct,oranypartthereof,asaresultof anysuitorproceedingsodefendedisheldtoconstitute infringementoritsusebyBuyerisenjoined,Siemens will,atitsoptionanditsownexpense,either:(a) procureforBuyertherighttocontinueusingsaid Product;b)replaceitwithsubstantiallyequivalent non-infringingProduct;or(c)modifytheProductsoit becomesnon-infringing.

SiemenswillhavenodutyorobligationtoBuyerunder thisArticletotheextentthattheProductis(a) suppliedaccordingtoBuyer’sdesignorinstructions whereincompliancetherewithhascausedSiemensto deviatefromitsnormalcourseofperformance,(b) modifiedbyBuyeroritscontractorsafterdelivery, (c)combinedbyBuyeroritscontractorswithdevices, methods,systemsorprocessesnotfurnishedhereunder andbyreasonofsaiddesign,instruction,modification,or combinationasuitisbroughtagainstBuyer.Inaddition, ifbyreasonofsuchdesign,instruction,modification orcombination,asuitorproceedingisbroughtagainst Siemens,BuyershallprotectSiemensinthesame mannerandtothesameextentthatSiemenshas agreedtoprotectBuyerundertheprovisionsofthe Sectionabove.

THISARTICLEISANEXCLUSIVESTATEMENTOFALLTHE DUTIESOFTHEPARTIESRELATINGTOPATENTSAND COPYRIGHTS,ANDDIRECTORCONTRIBUTORYPATENT ORCOPYRIGHTANDOFALLTHEREMEDIESOFBUYER RELATINGTOANYCLAIMS,SUITS,ORPROCEEDINGS INVOLVINGPATENTSANDCOPYRIGHTS.

10.CompliancewithLaws.Buyeragreestocomplywithall applicablelawsandregulationsrelatingtothepurchase, resale,exportation,transfer,assignment,disposaloruse ofthegoods.

11.ChangesinWork.Siemensshallnotimplementany changesinthescopeofworkunlessBuyerandSiemens agreeinwritingtothedetailsofthechangeandany

resultingprice,scheduleorothercontractual modifications.Anychangetoanylaw,rule,regulation, order,code,standardorrequirementwhichrequires anychangehereundershallentitleSiemenstoan equitableadjustmentinthepricesandanytime ofperformance.

12.Non-waiverofDefault.Eachshipmentmade hereundershallbeconsideredaseparatetransaction. IntheeventofanydefaultbyBuyer,Siemensmay declinetomakefurthershipments.IfSiemenselects tocontinuetomakeshipments,Siemens’actions shallnotconstituteawaiverofanydefaultbyBuyer orinanywayaffectSiemens’legalremediesforany suchdefault.AnywaiverofSiemenstorequirestrict compliancewiththeprovisionsofthiscontractshall beinwritingandanyfailureofSiemenstorequire suchstrictcomplianceshallnotbedeemedawaiverof Siemens’righttoinsistuponstrictcompliancethereafter.

13 FinalWrittenAgreement;ModificationofTerms.These terms,togetherwithanyquotation,purchaseorderor acknowledgementissuedorsignedbySiemens,comprise thecompleteandexclusiveagreementbetweenthe parties(the.Agreement.)andsupersedeanyterms containedinBuyer’sdocuments,unlessseparatelysigned bySiemens.Thesetermsmayonlybemodifiedbya writteninstrumentsignedbyauthorizedrepresentatives ofbothparties.

14.Assignment.NeitherpartymayassigntheAgreement, inwholeorinpart,noranyrightsorobligations hereunderwithoutthepriorwrittenconsentofthe other;providedhoweverthatSiemensmayassignits rightsandobligationsunderthesetermstoitsaffiliates andSiemensmaygrantasecurityinterestinthe Agreementand/orassignproceedsoftheAgreement withoutBuyer’sconsent.

15.ApplicableLawandJurisdiction.Thesetermsis governedandconstruedinaccordancewiththelaws oftheStateofDelaware,withoutregardtoitsconflict oflawsprinciples.TheapplicationoftheUnitedNations ConventiononContractsfortheInternationalSaleof Goodsisexcluded.BUYERWAIVESALLRIGHTSTOAJURY TRIALINANYACTIONORPROCEEDINGRELATEDINANY WAYTOTHESETERMS.

16.Severability.Ifanyprovisionofthesetermsareheld tobeinvalid,illegalorunenforceable,thevalidity, legalityandenforceabilityoftheremainingprovisions willnotinanywaybeaffectedorimpaired,andsuch provisionwillbedeemedtoberestatedtoreflectthe originalintentionsofthepartiesasnearlyaspossible inaccordancewithapplicablelaw.

17.ExportCompliance.BuyeracknowledgesthatSiemensis requiredtocomplywithapplicableexportlawsand regulationsrelatingtothesale,exportation, transfer,assignment,disposal,andusageofthe ProductsprovidedundertheContract,includingany exportlicenserequirements.Buyeragreesthatsuch Productsshallnotatanytimedirectlyorindirectly beused,exported,sold,transferred,assignedor otherwisedisposedofinamannerwhichwillresultin non-compliancewithsuchapplicableexportlawsand regulations.Itshallbeaconditionofthecontinuing performancebySiemensofitsobligationshereunder thatcompliancewithsuchexportlawsand regulationsbemaintainedatalltimes.BUYERAGREES TOINDEMNIFYANDHOLDSIEMENSHARMLESSFROM ANYANDALLCOSTS,LIABILITIES,PENALTIES,SANCTIONS ANDFINESRELATEDTONON-COMPLIANCEWITH APPLICABLEEXPORTLAWSANDREGULATIONS.
