The chapter starts off by providing a comprehensive introduction to research. Then the research
methodologies and research methods particularly used in information systems are discussed. A
significant effort has been made to clarify and provide distinctions between research methodology
and research method. During the course of this research, when investigating the literature on
research methodology and research methods, it was found that many researchers were using the
two interchangeably. Therefore the two sections on research methodology and research methods
have been treated separately.
