INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BIONATORAbout the BionatorThe Bionator helps to improve the alignment of your teeth and jaws by encouraging growthof the jaws. The removable appliance is custom-made to fit each patient and consists ofwire and acrylic materials. This appliance is commonly used in children and adolescentswith a retruding lower jaw.

Length of TreatmentFor the appliance to be effective, you must wear it all the time, except for when eating,brushing your teeth, participating in contact sports, playing a musical instrument or giving a

speech. You must also wear the Bionator while sleeping. When the Bionator is not in yourmouth, you should keep it in its case to prevent loss or breakage as there is a replacementfee. We will give you a chart to keep track of the time you wear your appliance.

Cleaning Your ApplianceAs with all orthodontic appliances, it is vital to keep your Bionator appliance clean. Aftereating, you should rinse or scrub your appliance to clear off any accumulation of food ortartar. Before going to bed, you should thoroughly brush your Bionator with toothpaste anda toothbrush. Soaking your appliance in a denture cleanser occasionally with also keep itfresh.

Effects on Your SpeechIt may take a little while to get used to the Bionator, so it may cause your speech to bealtered for a few weeks. With practice, you will grow accustomed to the Bionator and yourspeech will return to normal. Try reading aloud 5-10 minutes every evening, taking care toenunciate each word.

Bionator DiscomfortYou may feel some temporary discomfort for the first few days of wearing the Bionator. Youwill also have an increase in saliva production, but this will go away within the first week. Ifyou have prolonged discomfort or have any swelling around your gum tissue, please call ouroffice.
