What is the purpose of a recount text?

To retell events in the past in chronological order

TYPES OF RECOUNT TEXTS:

Personal Recount

Factual recount

Biography Recount

History Recount

Imaginary Recount


A Recount text is organized like this:Orientation Tells the topic, who is involved,

where it happened and when it happened

Events Tells what happened in chronological order

Re-orientation

(optional)

Tells the impression, the opinion or the feeling of the writer toward

the experience


How can we write a recount text? You should use :

• Simple Past Tense e.g. : Last week our family went to the beach.• Past Continuous e.g. : The sun was shinning brightly when we played on the beach• Past Perfect e.g. : After we had swum for an hour, we had lunch


• Conjunctions e.g. We were very hungry so we went into the restaurant.

The sun set in the west when we went home

We didn’t want to swim because the sea was very rough.


NOUN PHRASES

e.g. : a boy a little boy a little boy with a straw hat five big boys on the beach


Adverbs of manner, place, time

e.g. : The boy went to the beach The boy went to the beach alone

The boy went to the beach alone when I saw him

A written recount text A Trip To My Hometown

Yesterday, I went to my hometown by bus. It was a pleasant trip. I was traveling for my own enjoyment.

I woke up early. Then, I went to the bus station at 9.30. The bus was late. It arrived at about 10.00 and we left.

We traveled through the beautiful countryside. The sun was shining brightly at first. After a while, dark clouds appeared in the sky. By the time we arrived at my hometown, it was raining heavily.

I had gone out without a raincoat or an umbrella. Fortunately, an old friend of mine was waiting at the station and he had an umbrella with him.

I went to my parents’ home in my friend’s car. I stayed all day. We talked for a long time.

At 5.00, I returned to the city. This time, I traveled on an express train. It left on time. I arrived in the city on schedule.

The day had passed pleasantly and eventfully. I felt happy. Next weekend, I am going there again
