GORILLAS
Gorillas are the largest of all the primates. A male gorilla can be 180 centimeters tall and can weigh 200 kilograms. Gorillas are very strong but they do not often fight. In fact they are peaceful animals.
Gorillas live in small family groups of about 15. In a group there is one strong, older male, some young males, and a few females with their babies. They move slowly around a large area of jungle eating leaves and bushes.
In some ways gorillas are very like humans. When they are happy, they laugh and wave their arms. When they are angry, they beat their chests. When they are sad, they cry. But they cry quietly, without any tears.
Unfortunately, people hunt and kill gorillas. They also cut down and burn their trees. There are now only about 10,000 gorillas left in the world.

SCOTLAND
A lot of people think that Scotland is a part of England but this is untrue. Scotland is, in fact, a part of Great Britain. It is governed from London but in many ways it is a separate nation. It has its own capital city, Edinburgh, its own laws and its own stamps. It even has its own language, Gaelic, spoken now by only a few people on the islands.
There are only about five million Scots, and most of them live in the southern half of country called 'Lowlands', where the major cities are situated.
But most holiday visitors to Scotland go to the Highlands because of the high mountains and deep valleys, clean rivers and cold 'lochs'. The Highlands are home to many rare birds and animals, like the golden eagle and the wildcat, which are found nowhere else in Britain. It is a lonely, wild and empty land. There is very little work so most of the young people who are born there have to move south to find a job. Perhaps the Highlands of Scotland will become the last great wilderness of Europe.

She was so beautiful and gentle that the king fell in love with her at once. He asked her to be his wife, and his words caused the maiden to cry for joy. When one of her tears fell on the fawn, it changed back to her brother once more. Their goodness and love had overcome the witch's evil spell, and they lived safely and happily with the king for ever after.

Fort Rotterdam lies in the centre of Makassar. It was built in 1555 in the period of Gowa Kingdom. It provided protection for the Makassar Kingdom. It used to be called Benteng Ujung Pandang. When Admiral Cornelius, a Dutch troop leader, occupied Celebes in 1667, he rebuilt it and changed its name to Rotterdam. He made Fort Rotterdam a centre of the government.
The architecture of the buildings at Fort Rotterdam resembles European styles from the medieval era, IV-XVII century. Local people know the fort as Benteng Panynyua. Panynyua means 'turtle'. If seen from the air, Fort Rotterdam looks like a turtle crawling towards the sea.
Fort Rotterdam is now a national archaeological museum. People can see many artifacts and ancient things in the museum. It is called Museum La Galigo.

Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants, and are known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in nine recognized families though many are indescribable and the actual number is probably higher. A COUPLE WHO SURVIVED AN AMAZING 66 DAYS AT SEA
A couple from Miami, Bill and Simone Butler, spent sixty-six days in a life raft in the seas of Central America after their yacht sank. They survived in a very good condition.
Twenty-one days after they left Panama in their yacht, named Siboney, they met some whales which started to hit the side of the yacht. Then suddenly they heard water. Two minutes later, the boat was sinking. They jumped into the life-raft and watched the yacht go under the water.
For twenty days they lived with tins of food, biscuits, and bottles of water. They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water, two things which saved their lives. They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw. Then the line broke. So they had no more fish until something very strange happened. Some sharks came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface. Bill caught them with his hands.
About twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them. After fifty days at sea their life-raft was
beginning to break up. Then suddenly it was all over. A fishing boat saw them and picked them up. They couldn't stand up, so the captain carried them onto his boat and took them to Costa Rica. Their two months at sea was over.

A Simple Kite

- A large piece of rice paper. - A brush

Steps:

2. Mark the centre of stick A. Place it with its centre on stick B.
3. Tie the two sticks tightly with a piece of string.
4. Cut a long piece of string. Tie it to each end of the two sticks to make the frame of the kite.

6. Place the frame on a piece of paper and copy its shape with a pencil. Cut the paper along the shape. Leave about 2 cm all around.
7. Put some glue on the edges of the paper. Fold the edges over the string of the frame and press down to glue the paper to the frame.
8. Paint and decorate your kite. When the paint is dry, make the bridle of the kite.
9. Cut a piece of string about 150 cm long. Tie one end to the point where the two sticks cross. Then, tie the other end to the bottom of the kite,.
10. Make a tail for the kite from strips of paper and glue it to the bottom of the kite. Finally, tie a piece of string about 100 m long to the bridle. This is the string you use to fly the kite.

Many years later, the wandering Sangkuriang found a house in the forest, and an old beautiful woman was in the house. The woman, Dayang Sumbi, recognized the adventurer as Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang forced her to marry him and Dayang Sumbi asked him to make a vast boat in one night. In the night, Sangkuriang called his friends, ghosts and forest fairies to help him. Dayang Sumbi feared the boat could be finished on time, so she asked some women nearby to help her. The woman hit the grains with grain puncher to make noise which disturbed the ghosts and the fairies. The ghosts and the fairies ran away before completing the boat. Sangkuriang was very angry. He kicked away the boat upside down, and it turned into a mountain called Tangkuban Perahu. It means the downside boat, which stood in the north of Bandung.

MAKING CANDLES
Making coloured and scented candles is really quick and simple. What's more, you'll save so much money. If making candle is easy, why do you ever buy one from a shop? What you need in making candle are wax, moulds, wick, dye discs, essential oils, and a double boiler. All these materials are available from craft shops. Or if you do not want to buy them, you can improvise with an old saucepan, Pyrex jug, or even a sturdy can, in a pot of water. After providing the materials, follow this procedure or instruction in making candles!
First of all, melt the wax. All wax has a flash point, so to prevent it bursting into flames; you must melt it in a double boiler, with water in the bottom of the pan. Then, prepare the mould with the wick. Thread the wick through the mould and make sure that you leave a good few centimeters sticking out of the hole in the bottom.
After that, add the scent. If you want a scented candle, add a few drops of essential oil to the melted wax. You can use any essential oil you like, as long as it doesn't contain water.
Next step, pour the wax into the mould. Try and tip the wax into the mould quickly, all in one go, to
minimize spillage and air bubbles.
Then, release the bubbles and top it up. Releasing the air bubbles will eventually make the candle sink, so you will need to top it up with more melted wax. Finally, remove it from the mould. After four or five hours, the candle can be taken out of its mould.
Your candle is now ready for display. Remember, you must always leave it for a day before lighting it.
