During a vehicle check onAug. 25, KK Nagar inspectorChandru and his team nabbedthe four with the help of theregistration number of theirauto rickshaw.

Their faces and the regis-tration number of the autorickshaw were caught by theCCTV camera during their lastheist on Aug. 17 on Arya GowdaRoad when they had cheatedan elderly woman and robbedher gold chain.

jewellery worth Rs. 20 lakhswas recovered from them.

The four, Mehboob Basha,Selvam, Kannan and Radha-krishnan, were remanded tojudicial custody.

The gang had been involvedin criminal cases in Mam-balam, T. Nagar, Choolai-medu, Mylapore, Valasara-vakkam, Vadapalani, MGRNagar and Ashok Nagar.

Media woman arrested in idoltheft case

Aug. 25 arrested Malathi (aresident of Kodambakkam) inconnection with the theft andtransportation of idols worthRs. 80 crores.

Enquiries made with herearlier had led to the arrest offilm director Sekar on Aug. 13.

She told the police that theplot was hatched in Sekar’soffice in K.K. Nagar and theburglars were paid Rs. 5 lakhsto steal the idols.

She had accompanied thegang which brought the stolenidols from Vandavasi inTiruvannamalai in January.She had used her press card toavoid inspection at check

posts.Police said that Malathi runs

a fortnightly magazine called‘Ullatchi Murasu’.

Police had unearthed the idolracket with the arrest of twopersons Karunakaran andThanalingam from WestMambalam in May.

Police are in the lookout for11 more suspects.
