Selama ini orang hanya menganggap arsip adalah sebuah kumpulan kertas yang bersifat dinamis dan statis, jika masih bernilai guna akan disim-pan sebagai arsip statis, padahal selain kertas ada naskah dokumentasi yang berupa: data, foto, video, rekaman suara atau pun informasi yang merupakan arsip yang memiliki nilai tinggi untuk kelangsungan sebuah organisasi, sebuah lembaga, komunitas maupun sebuah negara.
Mendengar istilah atau kata “arsip” kita pasti tidak asing lagi. Dalam kehidupan sehari hari, kita sering berhubungan dengan kertas, yang terkait dengan bukti pembayaran, dokumen kepemilikan, surat perjanjian dan sebagainya, yang kemudian semua itu kita simpan. Kira-kira seperti itulah masyarakat awam memberikan gambaran tentang arsip.
Ketika Pemerintah Hindia Belanda mendirikan Landarchief (Sekarang Arsip Nasional Republik Indonesia) pada 28 Januari 1892, semua arsip-arsip pada masa VOC hingga masa pemerintahan Hindia dipelihara oleh lembaga ini untuk kepentingan administrasi, ilmu pengetahuan dan pertanggung-jawaban sejarah bangsa.
Di Era Digital seperti saat ini, setiap individu su-dah dengan mudahnya meng-arsip-kan dokumen mereka di berbagai media, baik untuk kepentingan pribadi maupun kepentingan berbagi-pakai. ISTRIE sebagai suatu komunitas foto sudah barang tentu memiliki arsip yang bisa menjadi bahan pembela-jaran untuk tiap anggota atau membernya dimasa yang akan datang, saat ini buku digital adalah
pilihan yang tepat untuk menjadi media pengarsi-pan, dengan tagline “SHOT, SHARE, AND INSPIRE” diharapkan buku digital ini menjadi lembar-lembar inspirasi untuk membuka tahun 2014, baik untuk membernya maupun “street mobile photography enthusiast” pada umumnya.
Lebih dari 200 foto yang diterima oleh tim kurasi, yaitu @shutdagizm (Akbar Makarti), @henrybric (Henry Poerborianto) dan @prasspra-setio (prassprasetio) sejak akhir Desember 2013 lalu, yang akhirnya menghasilkan 80an foto yang ditampilkan di buku digital ini. Besar harapan kami buku digital perdana ini, menjadi bahan acuan para member lain untuk mulai meng-arsip-kan karya-kar-ya foto yang diambil dengan mobile phone mereka menjadi sebuah buku, baik itu dengan format digi-tal ataupun cetak.

EPILOGUEISTRIE ARCHIVE was a project that the community had envisioned from the beginning of 2013. We felt it was im-portant to reflect on our photographic journey as a community to continue to grow and foster the culture of con-structive criticism. For the past several weeks, Prass, Henry and I have curated almost 300 images to be included in The Archive. It was a daunting task as there were so many great images that were forced to be left out to make way for equal representation. However, we
truly believe (and sincerely hope) that the photos we’ve selected provided a critical glimpse of what ISTRIE is all about and inspire everyone involved in the project to become better street photographers, including the viewers.
On behalf of ISTRIE admins, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the contributors who have given their time to select their best images for us to exhibit in this photobook. 2014 is very much under way and you
can definitely bet ISTRIE is already roaming the streets of Jakarta and elsewhere in the world. It’s #ShootOrDie time, baby.
