di Singapura pada 15-19 Oktober 2012.

Festival ini akan menyatukan para pakar dan

pelaku industri pariwisata untuk bertukar

pikiran mengenai industri pariwisata.

September

Mid-Autumn Festival (September)

Tempat: Chinatown

Perayaan panen ini digelar setiap hari ke-15 di bulan ke delapan pada penanggalan

bulan, saat bulan purnama penuh. Chinatown menyambut festival ini dengan lampu

warna-warni dan bazaar yang menjual kue bulan, jeruk pomelo, teh dan hidangan

lainnya.

Hari Raya Celebrations (September – Oktober)

Tempat: Kampong Glam dan Geylang Serai

Hari Raya yang juga dikenal Hari Raya Idul Fitri ini menandai berakhirnya bulan

Ramadhan, bulan puasa untuk umat Islam. Kawasan etnis Melayu Singapura ini

dimeriahkan dengan gemerlap lampu dan bazaar yang menyajikan makanan, busana

dan pernak-pernik tradisional.

Navarathiri Festival

Navarathiri berarti “sembilan malam” dan selama sembilan malam, para penganut

Hindu memuja Rajarajeshwari, Dewi Ibu, dengan nyanyian dan tarian di kuil-kuil

Hindu di Singapura. Festival ini dibagi menjadi tiga bagian yang masing-masing

diperuntukan bagi dewi yang merupakan titisan Rajarajeshwari: Durga (kekuasaan),

Lakshmi (kekayaan) dan Saraswathy (pengetahuan).

Oktober

Perayaan Deepavali (Oktober-November)

Selama Deepavali atau festival Cahaya, umat Hindu menyalakan lampu minyak dan

menghiasi rumah mereka dengan kolams (desain yang digambar di lantai) untuk

merayakan kemenangan kebaikan atas kejahatan. Little India dihiasi dengan busur

dan lampu warna-warni untuk menciptakan suasana ceria. Ada juga berbagai macam

pertunjukan budaya di Serangoon Road dan jangan lewatkan bazaar yang

menawarkan makanan India yang manis.

Theemidhi (Festival Berjalan di Atas Api) (oktober)

Tempat: Sri Mariamman Temple

Saksikan para penganut agama Hindu dengan iman yang berani berjalan bertelanjang

kaki di atas bara api yang menyala-nyala. Setelah berminggu-minggu berpuasa dan

mempraktikkan vegetarianisme yang ketat, mereka memenuhi sumpahnya dalam

upacara tahunan yang menegangkan ini untuk menghormati Dewi Drupadi.

ARTSingapore (Oktober)

Tempat: Suntec Singapore Level 4 Hall 404

Sejak kelahirannya pada tahun 2002, festival seni tahunan ini mendapat reputasi

sebagai pusat seni kontemporer di Asia. Galeri dari Australia, Filipina, Jepang dan

negara-negara lain di kawasan ini mempunyai stand yang memamerkan berbagai

karya termasuk lukisan, ukiran, foto, video dan seni digital oleh ratusan seniman, dari

para ,aestro sampai para pemula.

Ziarah ke Pulau Kusu (Oktober-November)

Tempat: Pulau Kusu

Para penganut agama Taois berziarah ke Kuil Tua Pekong setiap tahun untuk berdoa

demi kemakmuran dan kesuburan. Legenda Pulau Kusu (yang berarti ‘Pulau Kura-

Kura’ dalam bahasa China) mengisahkan tentang dua orang pelayar yang tenggelam,

seorang China dan seorang Melayu, yang  diselamatkan oleh seekor kura-kura.

Sebagai rasa terima kasih, mereka membangun sebuah kuil China dan rumah ibadah

Melayu, bersama patung kura-kura besar di pulau itu.

2. The SkyPark Sands

The SkyPark Sands adalah sebuah hasil karya yang luar biasa. Inilah karya

struktural yang unik, dirancang oleh arsitek visioner Moshe Safdie, membentang di

atas tiga tower hotel Marina Bay Sands dengan tinggi 200 meter.

Panjangnya sedikit lebih tinggi dari tingginya menara Eiffel atau sekitar empat

7. Singapore Philatelic Museum

Singapore Philatelic Museum adalah tempat untuk menyimpan koleksi perangko

lokal dan mancanegara yang bernilai tinggi dan penuh dengan cerita sejarah di negara

Singapura.

Koleksi yang terdapat di museum ini meliputi perangko dan benda pos lainnya dari

tahun 1830 sampai sekarang. Termasuk juga didalamnya perangko dari negara

lainnya yang temasuk anggota perkumpulan Universal Postal Union.

Pada gallery permanen mengambil tema untuk mengenalkan perangko pada seluruh

dunia, perangko pertama yang diciptakan, dan perangko menjadi pintu jembatan

penghubung informasi antar negara.

Museum ini juga dijadikan tempat edukasi untuk murid-murid sekolah di Singapura.

Dari perangko, murid dapat belajar tentang sejarah, budaya bangsa-bangsa negara lain

dan Singapura.

Singapore Philatelic Museum didirikan pada tanggal 19 Agustus 1995 sebagai

projek Telecommunication Authority of Singapore (TAS). Pada tanggal 1 April

2000, museum ini ditransfer menjadi milik National Heritage Board (NHB). NHB

juga mensubsidi museum ini. Sebelum menjadi museum, gedung ini dipakai menjadi

Anglo Chinese School.

Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges

Everytime a taxi passes through an Electronic Road Pricing gantry during

peak hours on various roads (including the major expressways), a charge

ranging from SGD 0.50 to SGD 3 is added to the taxi fare.

Note: Drivers showing red destination labels on their dashboard or windscreen are

changing shift and prefer to accept passengers travelling in that general direction only.

MRT

The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) is a modern, air-conditioned passenger

train service with stations all over the city. There are two main lines - one from

Marina Bay to Jurong East via Woodlands and the other from Changi Airport to Boon

Lay.

You can obtain a copy of A Quick Guide to MRT Travel from the Station Control

Rooms in all MRT stations. For more information on both the MRT and bus services,

you can refer to the TransitLink Guide which is available at SGD 1.50 in most MRT

stations and bus interchanges as well as at major bookstores.

From the city centre, the MRT ride to the Changi Airport station is only 27 minutes.

The train service from the Changi Airport station operates at an average frequency of

12 minutes and its service hours are as follows:

Changi Airport station to City Hall station

First train: 5:31am (Mon to Sat), 5:59am (Sun and public holidays)

Last train: 11:18pm (daily)

City Hall station to Changi Airport station

First train: 6:09am (Mon to Sat), 6:45am (Sun and public holidays)

Last train: 12:03am (daily)

The fare for a single trip from Changi Airport station to City Hall station is SGD 1.40.

For the convenience of travellers, trains serving the Changi Airport station provide

luggage racks and free space in every carriage.

The Rail Travel Information System (RATIS) disseminates real-time information on

train arrival times and destinations. The information is displayed on plasma screens in

the platform area and on LED panels found on the concourse. Do read the train

destinations from the RATIS or listen to in-train announcements to ensure that you

are travelling on the right train to your destination.

If you are on board a train going towards Pasir Ris station, you will need to alight at

Tanah Merah interchange station and board the train going towards Changi Airport

station.

Frequency

Trains operate at intervals of between two and a half minutes and eight minutes from

5:30am until 12:30am daily. Check at respective MRT stations for precise train

arrival/departure timings.

Fares

Travelling on the MRT is cheap, with rides ranging from SGD 0.80 to a maximum of

SGD 1.70.

Instead of using cash, you may choose to pay your MRT and bus fares with a stored

value ez-link Card. The Card can be bought or revalued from any TransitLink Ticket

Sales Office located in most MRT stations and bus interchanges. Each adult Card is

sold with a minimum value of SGD 10 plus a deposit fee of SGD 5.

From 3 July 2010, all commuters will be charged a fare according to the total distance

travelled, on the bus, LRT and MRT. With Distance Fares, fares are computed on a

journey basis, without a boarding charge being imposed for every transfer trip of your

journey. This way, you can choose the travel option that suits you best. Know more at

Singapore Bus Services

You can easily get from one point to another by bus with an ez-link Card, which can

also be used on the Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT Trains). SBS bus 36 runs between

Orchard Road and Changi Airport. The public bus stations are located in Terminal 1 at

Basement 2, and in Terminal 2 at Basement Level. Details of bus routes and fares are

displayed at bus stations.

SIA Hop-On

Hop onto this tourist bus service and explore the shopping, cultural and entertainment

areas within the city. The SIA Hop-on covers Orchard Road, Bugis Junction, Suntec

City, the Civic District, Boat Quay, Chinatown, Little India and the Singapore Botanic

Gardens.

Singapore Stopover Holiday (SSH) passengers (Please present SSH Identification

Card for boarding): Free of charge

Singapore Airlines or SilkAir passengers (Please present air ticket or boarding pass

when purchasing day pass): SGD 3 for adults and children.

Tickets can be purchased from most hotels, SIA ticket offices in the city and from the

bus drivers directly.

The Airport Shuttle service uses a 9-seater coach and serves most hotels in the city

with the exception of Changi Village Hotel and hotels on the Sentosa Island. The

service leaves every 15 minutes from 06:00hr to midnight and 30 minutes at other

hours. Chartering is available. Please approach the Airport Shuttle Counter on the

arrivals level.

the airport shuttle counters located at Arrival Halls of Terminals 1, 2 & 3, and Budget

Airport Tax

A passenger service charge of SGD21 should be incorporated in the air ticket

(including tickets issued outside of Singapore). If this has not been done, you may be

required to pay the SGD21 during check-in. In some cases, the airline may absorb the

service charge. Passengers who are in transit for less than 24 hours may leave the

airport without having to pay the service charge upon departure from Singapore.

Banking

The local currency is Singapore dollars and cents. Notes come in denominations of

SGD 2, SGD 5, SGD 10, SGD 20, SGD 50, SGD 100, SGD 500, SGD 1,000, and

SGD 10,000.

Coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and SGD 1.

Banking hours are Monday to Friday: 10 am to 3 pm, and Saturday: 9.30 am to 1 pm

(some banks are open until 3 pm). Sunday, 9.30 am to 3 pm (some banks in Orchard

Road).

Most banks handle travellers' cheques and change foreign currencies. However, some

banks do not have foreign exchange dealings on Saturday.

Passports are required when cashing travellers' cheques. A nominal commission may

be charged.

Electricity

Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels

will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage,

such as 110-120 volts, 60 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances,

do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your

home country. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-

shaped type.

Mobile Phones

There are two mobile phone networks - GSM900 and GSM1800 - and three mobile

telephone service providers - SingTel, M1 and StarHub. To make international calls,

the access codes are 001, 013, 0r 019 for SingTel, 002 0r 021 for M1 and 008 or 018

for StarHub.

Trishaws

An interesting way to tour the streets of Singapore is to take a trishaw ride. We

recommend that you avoid hailing a trishaw off the road. If you do, make sure that

you agree on the fare to your destination before the trip commences. However, there

are many trishaw tours that you can join that are run by some of the major tour

operators.

Visa and Entry Facilities

Generally, foreigners who do not require visas for entry and are visiting Singapore as

tourists, may be given up to 30-day social visit passes upon their arrival in Singapore.
