Maintenance and Overhault Production Line from abroad

Upgraded Items

There are 4 main parts to be upgraded:

PLC based Control System.

Currently, Siemens PLC Ti-545 is being used to control the production line. This

product and the subsequence parts list had been declared obsolete.

Remote I/O.

Fieldbus system connects all the Remote I/O to Ti-545. This parts ensure

communication between PLC and the actuator. Thus the Remote I/Os are for:

Main control panel.

Shell loading.

Lens loading.

Saline dosing.

Foil pick and place (P&P).

Web handling.

cavity sealing.

Laser Printer.

Magazine loading.

Corona treatment system.

Besides the obsolescence of the Remote I/O, connection cable should be upgraded to

get faster data communication.

Air Manifold.

Air manifold modules are currently used for:

1. Magazine and shell loading

The manifold controls a mechanism to move the finished goods from the palette

to the magazine.

Shell loading is done by operators. Air driven stopper will hold several palettes

while the shell are loaded manually.

2. Corona Treatment and lens loading

When the palette reaches the Corona station, the manifold will supply air to the

cylinder to the lift up the palette and simultaneously blow the shell.

Lens loading is done manually by operators. The air is only used to lift the

stopper to hold the palette.

3. Saline dosing

Stopper, controlled by manifold, holds palettes to be filled the shell with saline.

Here, manifold also controls stoppers in foil cutting station and at the inspection

conveyor before sealing station.

4. Foil Placing

Filled by saline, shells are transported to foil cutting station. Manifold will release

air to lift up stopper to pause the palette for receiving foils, which will be

released by vacuum nozzles on top of each shell.

5. Foil cutting

Several cycles after Perforation, perforated foil will be cut and placed on top of

shells. Here, manifold will control a vacuum system to pick up each peace of

foil. Pick and place fingers then are moved by servo motor and brought down by

a cylinder to release foils on each shell in the palette.

6. Cavity sealing

At this sealing station, besides controlling upward and downward mechanism in

sealing process, another manifold controls stoppers to lift palettes up for cavity

sealing.

Servo motor

3 servo motors are functioning at:

Foil cutting station, to transfer vacuum nozzles from cutting station to palette on

conveyor, which is filled with saline loaded shell.

Foil indexing at the end of foil cutting station, to drag and shift the foil 1 cycle

forward.

Finished goods magazine elevator, to stack down the finished blisters into the

magazines until the magazine is fully loaded.

All servo motors are hardwired to the drivers. Currently stand alone motion

controllers are used to connect to the servo motors’ drivers.

Packaging made from a vast range of materials and in different designs is part of the daily life of billions of consumers. The ever-changing requirements for packaging machines are as diverse as the products to be packaged: Packaging must keep products safe, fresh and hygienic, and at the same time meet criteria for appealing designs. This requires a wide variety of packaging shapes, styles and materials, in many cases for a single product.

Packaging machines therefore have to become increasingly flexible and productive in order to be able to remain competitive. In addition to constant demand for smaller production lots and higher production speed, traceability and extensive electronic process documentation and validation are becoming more and more significant in the packaging industry. A wide range of existing packaging applications indicate that automation technology from Beckhoff can help to significantly enhance the productivity and flexibility of packaging machines. PC-based control technology can control and monitor the complete process chain for individual packaging machines and complete packaging lines: Beckhoff Industrial PCs and the TwinCAT automation software can be used to manage a wide range of packaging functions such as filling, forming, sealing, labelling, collecting, re-packing and palletising. TwinCAT: Flexibility with PC-based technology

With the PC-based control system, Beckhoff has created a flexible standard to accommodate a wide range of requirements from different industries. This led to the development of a uniform, fully scalable and, most importantly, open system. This openness, both in terms of the software and hardware interfaces, helps machine builders adapt their systems to today’s diverse and changing industrial requirements without repeatedly incurring high implementation costs and effort. TwinCAT integrates PLC and Motion Control functions and controls all process steps of high-performance packaging machines. TwinCAT PLC programming is based on the international IEC 61131-3 standard. A wide range of software modules are available for different packaging tasks such as cam plates, synchronisation and interpolating movements of several axes. With TwinCAT, solutions for practically any packaging application can be implemented due to highly flexible master and slave axis combination options and diverse, high-performance motion functions. High-performance tools such as the TwinCAT CAM Design Editor and TwinCAT ScopeView support easier system design and commissioning. PLC libraries with function blocks based on the PLCopen Motion Control and OMAC PackSoft standards simplify programming and permit the use of standardised components. Open communication interfaces support integration into existing visualisation and control systems. Depending on the requirements of the automation components, the Windows operating system enables the installation of further software components (in addition to TwinCAT) on the same hardware. The Industrial PC as an open, uniform platform facilitates communication between the selected components
