Why is it important for a film to have a target audience?

Target Audience for Madness + Paranoia

• When creating a horror film based around Madness and paranoia, the crew would focus on making their film suitable for 18-35 males in the working/middle class.

• They chose this target audience as films focussing on madness and paranoia will be quite dark and twisted and therefore unsuitable for teenagers under 18 years of age.

Audience Summary

• With our results we can conclude that people who do enjoy the supernatural sub-genre are male and females in their teenage years 15+ to people aged 40 and under. This proves the target audience of supernatural films is successful as it interests their audience.

• However, people who do not enjoy the supernatural sub-genre are elderly people who do not prefer the scary films or teenagers aged 14-19 who just didn’t like the sub-genre.

Facebook Summary• From the people that we interviewed who enjoyed watching

supernatural horrors we learned that they expect jumpscares, build up of tension, a decent storyline so it looks unique and is original.

• They also said the effects of the film should be up to scratch so it’s believable and realistic looking to scare the audience even more.

• However, from our Facebook status: “What do you expect in supernatural films?” Two people replied. One person replied with: “Jump scares and dealing with the occult.” Another said “murder, aliens and curses.”
